Kjarnalundur, Akureyri, Iceland, Akureyri
Set in the lush Kjarnalundur Park and surrounded by forest, this laid-back hotel is 2 km from both Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland, and Akureyri Airport.Accommodations range from simple rooms to understated suites. All have flat-screen TVs; some include parkland views and/or lounge areas. A polished 3-bedroom cottage with wood furnishings adds a kitchen and a hot tub.Complimentary breakfast is served in a relaxed restaurant that has a seasonal terrace. There's also a meeting space, a lounge and a sauna, plus a furnished patio, and a hot tub with woodland views. Massages are offered (fee). Parking is available.
We stayed in one of their cabins which was very spacious, clean and felt newly renovated. It is a bit off from the city centre, but as long as you have a car it is no problem (or like to walk!).
Excellent choice of hotel if youre staying around the Akureyri area. The level of service from all the hotel staff was exceptional! Going above and beyond to please their guests and ensure everyone was satisfied.Rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious.Hotel is only a short drive away from the main town centre while also being ideally situated far enough to have a chance at seeing the Northern Lights. We were lucky enough, with the guidance of hotel staff, to see the Northern Lights - and during a summer month! While the lights were barely visible from the city centre, staying at this hotel was the perfect choice as light pollution was much less. This left us with memories well forever cherish. Will definitely stay here again on another trip around Iceland.
So cosy family run hotel with old decor, it has soul to it that other hotel lacks that all look the same.
Nice family run hotel with homie feeling that other hotels dont have. There are two hot tubes outside and infra-red sauna inside.Amazing breakfastBunnys free roaming outside that gives this place caracter.
Extremely disappointing hotel, especially for the price!!!!We booked a room for the night based on the fact that there was supposed to be a pool and spa ( which there are not, rather just a hot tub as well as other good reviews.Online this looks like a large, updated resort- which is totally misleading as it is not even close. What we found upon arrival was a very run-down, somewhat depressing property filled with old mismatched dingy furniture, old carpeting that could use a good wash, a marginally clean bathroom with a dirty shower curtain and a hospital-like antiseptic smell throughout, especially in our stuffy room where only one window out of the two windows worked.Every other hotel in town includes breakfast in its price except for this one, which we pre-paid for, but after seeing the state of the hotel probably shouldnt have.My only positive comment was that the front desk young man was extremely polite and friendly. So sorry we couldnt have gotten a refund and found another hotel - ruined what could have been such a wonderful evening in such a charming town.
The shower was filthy. The plugs were broken. We payed $370 a night, and this was unacceptable. The only reason we didnt leave and demand our money back is that this was the only room available in 100km.Avoid if possible!
The room was dirty, really old fashioned, the hot water in the shower was smelling Sulphur. Very bad experience
Horrible!I have never seen a smaller room in my life. There was no wardrobe and not even a hook where to hang our coats. No room to open the hand-baggage! Never again!!!!
Nice hotel, small rooms, clean and simple. The people were very nice. There are a couple of automated hot tubs in de garden right next to the hotel. The usual flatscreen tv and water cooker were present. About 7 minute drive from Akureyri.
Small room and not so clean
Great hotel but nowhere near Akureyri. Breakfast was particularly good. Although it did remind me of the hotel from "The Shining"
Very nice family-owned hotel with beautiful and modern refurbished rooms while the rest of the hotel is more traditional Icelandic rustic style - a great mix!
Good hotel. The rooms were a bit small, but the breakfast was good. It is not really in walking distance of the rest of the city.
Even though its a bit far out from the town its really nice. Super friendly staff that caters to all your needs. Amazing view and great hiking trail next to a river with a waterfall right behind the Hotel.
Excellent hotel! Super friendly staff, amazing included breakfast, clean rooms, simple check in and check out, and best of all, affordable! 10/10.
Loved it ! Very pretty and cosy lobby . Nice location and very nice staff
This is in the outskirts of the city. The rooms are very very small. There wont be anyone to help you at the reception. Not recommended.
Its amazing the location is amazing small long from the city but thats good because its not loud in There and always beutiful sun and the reception guy is amazing so nice and helpful really nice guy its supposed to give us rate the reception people because on that one guy I would give 100 stars
Nice hotel with nice staff en people.Good price and fine breakfast.
A beautiful family run hotel. The staff were kind, offered helpful recommendations, and created a very familiar environment. The lobby was cozy, rooms were quiet, and the check in process was easy. Would definitely recommend for all types of travellers, solo, family, friends or couples :!
TLDR : Impossible to reach to change our booking for 2 months, leaving us without accommodation at the last minute, still cashed in our money without any commercial gesture or explanation regarding their absence of answer.Extremely unprofessional. Do not recommend.------My friend and I booked this hotel 2 months ago but immediately noticed we mixed up the date. (We arrived a day earlier than booked)For 2 months we tried to contact the hotel via email, Facebook, website without any success.5 days ago, we finally receive an email: "Do you still want to change your booking?"Well... Yes. We answered a few minutes after. No answers. We poke them several times. No answers. We still go to the hotel on the day before our wrong booking.Welp, the person at the counter couldnt do anything for us, hotel was booked, it didnt know about the emails, reservation cant be changed or refunded : Bye !No commercial gesture or anything leaving us empty handed and with our cash taken despite wanting to correct the initial mistake for 2 months. In short : Terribly unprofessional and unreliable.
We stayed in a guest house, which was absolutely lovely -- quiet and in a small neighbourhood of other guesthouses. It was an amazing way to have a ton of space and quiet after a long day adventuring. I took off one star because of two things: first, the hotel staff did not give helpful directions to the guesthouses. There are a number of other guesthouses in the area, and it was extremely easy to get confused about which one to go to, and satnav wasnt able to take us directly where we needed to go. The other issue was flies -- there were a ton of flies in our house, likely due to there being horses right on the other side of the fence of the back garden. Obviously the staff cant help that there are horses there, but it would have been nice if theyd put in fly traps to try to keep them away from guests a bit.
This was the most disappointing stay of our short trip to the north. We stayed here with our friends, booked a room with two double beds very expensive for one night. It turnout out to be a double bed room with a sofa and it was prepared as it was supposed to be 3 people there (obviously we where 4). When we walked in, noticed a bag of pills and a used glass on top of the toilet, the bathroom clearly didnt looked clean. The lady at the reception was the most unprofessional person I have encounter until this day, gave very poor excuses and took an eternity to fix our problems. We left the hotel around 18h30 and when we came back around 22h30 nothing had been changed. Even thought we went twice to the reception to complain. When we finally got the extra pillow and duvet, the other lady that brought it, just simply thrown it at us. We kindly asked to be refund at least for the breakfast as a compensation of all the troubles we had encounter since check-in, which was very rudely declined. Not to mentioned, the restaurant that day could only serve the Todays Special because they had a group for dinner. This was a new one for me. Internet didn´t really worked either. Worst costumer service EVER! And believe me I work at a Hotel as well. I guess the owner/manager of this hotel doesnt really care about whats going on. If you are thinking in stay here, just search for something else, this was the only option available when we booked it. Believe me, I would prefer to do extra kilometres than to stay here again.
Fast service and everything went as planned! Great place has lots of room outdoors and indoors to hangout! Hot tub outside thats always awesome! The local bunnys were human friendly and will run up to you if you wanna feed them! Would recommend!
Unbeatable location, stunning view from the room, very spacious suite, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Will definitely stay again if return to the area.
This was a lovely hotel for our family of five. It was easy to find, hosts were welcoming, lobby was quirky and inviting, breakfast was delicious and overlooking the water. Our room was modern, bathroom was spacious, and beds were comfy. Perfect after a long day of sight-seeing
Came to check in and no one is was there. Had to call and wait half an hour. Was given a room smaller than what I paid for. Flies everywhere in the room. They seemed to be growing and living from the corner of the ceiling. Disgusting.Outside I did not sleep here. I left to another hotel.Receptionist was missing, late, and confused. Seemed under the influence.Spend more and stay somewhere clear and safe. People outside and in the lobby seemed high and shady too.
Amazing hotel, family runned. Room cosy, cute bed comfortable. Lobby absolutely fantastic and so good to sit there for hours. Breakfast and baked bread 10*
Nice hotel at fair prices. Good continental breakfast and very homely and relaxed feel. Family run establishment with friendly staff.
Awesome hotel even though a little expensive, but great wellness made up for the cost. It was really pleasant after long time in a car. The room was good and clean. The wifi was decent, but could have been better. I also liked the buffet style breakfast, which is included in the price. I have to put only 4 stars though because of the sulfuric water smell in shower and the fact the shower was really small (even though the bathroom was massiveand inconveniently placed.
Excellent place to stay! Hinda was beneficial and saviour to find me last minute booking. Triple room was great; breakfast was excellent, the hotel is excellent, one word - amazing! :)
Lovely hotel, very nice staff. Enjoyed our sliding glass door that accessed the hot tubs. Excellent breakfast
Decent hotel at the outskirts of Akureyri.Pros: The second room we got was large, with big screen TV and nice shower. The breakfast was ok with a lovely view. The staff was friendly.Cons: The first room we received was very basic and old fashioned, with a moldy smell comming out from the bathroom. The receptionist changed our room to a much bigger and modern, yet basement level floor, with some flying bug and missed cleaning spots. Located few minutes drive from city center.
The room we had (the cheapest oneis very small and a bit outdated. It has everything included and it is clean. The shower was a bit broken. We got confirmation a baby-bed would be ready for us, but upon arrival the woman at reception said the room would be too small to fit the extra bed. A bit strange. She tried to get us a bigger room, but in the end the bed fit inside the small room as well. Very friendly staff!
the location of the hotel is just excellent. Very close to the downtown, but quiet in the same time. Rooms are tidy and spacious and parking is available on premises. Breakfast is very decent. But the most notable thing is service - so my 4 yo lost his (third BTWcrochet triceratops and I was out of reserves. They mailed it to us. To the continental US. Basically saved our lives and lots and lots of tears. We all and particularly my son were so grateful.
Very nice, family owned hotel. The guy who owns it is extremely friendly and went out of his way to make our stay perfect. Amongst other things, he met us when we arrived at 3am with a cold beer and a warm hot tub that he prepared for us so that we can relax from our drive. Nice rooms. Very cozy. Great price.
We are enjoying 3 night stay here at Hótel Kjarnalundur and we are loving it. The room is very nice, good bed and everything very clean. The staff has been super friendly! The breakfast buffet is excellent. There is a good has at the reception. A spa and a outside hot tub. The massage that is available is GREAT! The surroundingarea is beautiful to enjoy walking. I highly recommend this placed
The room was not good, the bed is too small and inside. The bathroom was a mess, the shower look like it could flood the room somehow, and the water isn’t clean up. The pool was too small and only one is usable, the hall have a smell of fish.
Very comfortable hotel, staff helpful and attentive, geothermal hot water, smells of sulphur - Ladies beware if you do not wear a shower cap. Hotel is 3 klicks from Akureyri Town centre, taxis are pricey. Food was excellent, beer is expensive, £9 equivalent for pint of Tuborg - bring plenty money! Prices are x3 UK. Fishing was patchy, they were spawning and had other things on their collective minds rather than our baits. Weather varied from a mild summers day to icy wind blasts that went right through a person, dress with multi-layers and windproofed waterproof outers. Local hospitality was superb, scenery is epic with reminders of the volcanic everywhere, patches not of mist low down but steam! Unforgettable trip!
Really excellent hotel, comfortable rooms and beds. Bathroom has all needed amenities. At the back of the hotel there is charming garden for relaxation. Roo. Winds are big with great views to the mountain. Good quality breakfast with lots of options to choose from. I would stay again when back in the area.
The staff are so friendly that even drive us to the airport to pickup our rental car! In a snowstorm day! And the breakfast is a must-try!
It was so lovely to stay at hotel kjarnalundur, not like all the chain hotel and you feel like they are all the same. This is a family run hotel and you can feel that they put there heart and soul to the work. The best is that they turn off the lights around the hotel so we had good view of the northern lights. Also there is a hottub and infrared sauna, to me i felt like a kid during christmas and u could stay at santas house for one night.
Amazing property just outside Akureyri, next to domestic airport. Family run hotel with excellent staff and very warm welcoming people.Sauna and hot tub were excellent add ons to our winter experience.Away from the hustle of city in forest with rabbits around and in nature, this hotel is definitely amazing.
Hotel is alright, theres keys for the rooms only not key cards. This was the hotel that have a working lift which is helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy and the bed and bathroom were easy and convenient to use The buffet breakfast is on par with most hotels Overall a decent place to stay in.
I love this place. It is cozy, unassuming and tranquil. The staff are nice, breakfast is included rooms are small but clean and well kept. It is family owned with personal touches which for me is a bonus. Looking forward to coming back again some time in the future.
Nice and comfortable hotel close to the city (3 minutes by car).Continental breakfast was good but we wished they had more local/fresh products rather than industrial.Nice pools of hot water outside.Nice and helpful staff.
Very reasonably priced, especially in Iceland! Breakfast was included which was also an added value. Room was clean and recently updated. Very comfortable. The only thing is that the hot water smelled of sulfur but it wasnt unexpected in Iceland. Akureyri is about at 7 minute drive from the hotel.
Not a fan of the manager at this hotel. I had booked a room through expedia 3 weeks before the reservation date. I had to cancel the reservation due to a portion of route 1 being blocked off due to flooding, the local road website said the road wouldnt be accessible again until after my reservation date. Tried to cancel for 4 days prior to the reservation but the manager was somehow not reachable the entire 4 days. I dont understand how a manager of a hotel cant be reached for that long unless he or she was just trying to avoid the issue altogether, in which case its very unprofessional and worthy of a 1 star rating. Definitely will not be booking here ever again.
The building is in dire need of repair. The inside smells of stale cigarette smoke and cafeteria food; similar to that of a nursing home. Screws were protruding from the door frame and the remodel that was being attempted was evident by the loose debris outside the patio door.On a positive note, the room was clean, as was the bathroom.
Great base from which to explore this amazing region.Rooms are clean and the beds are of high quality. Friendly staff who are very knowledgeable on the local sights.Included breakfast is a definite bonus.
