Hotel Check Inn - in Azogues, Ecuador
Nice place + breakfast. Good size room. Reasonable price. Great location. Hot shower. Very good WiFi. Friendly staff.
For the price i think its worth 4 stars. But its quite noisy so be prepared. The one thing they really should improve is the toiletrol. There is one holder and 1 roll in the bathroom for 3 toilets… make one in every toilet please! This way you dont have to take toiletpaper before entering the toilet.Such a small improvement would make a difference.
A lovely hostel with lovely people in the city center of Cuenca. You cannot have a better location. Veronika and Nestor are very friendly and are always there to help and make the best out of your stay. Really recommend this place! :)
SCAM & DISGUSTING!! The place is INFECTED by cockroaches!!!On top of that, they over-charged my credit card and are playing dumb! Booking Customer Service is helping me to report them as Fraud.Avoid this place at all cost!
Best deal ever !This hostel is very cheap and it is located in the very center of Cuenca ! We went there 2 times, in a private room.Bathrooms and toilets are always super clean, and there are a lot in the hostel, so you are often alone in there.Rooftop is a plus !The atmosphere is like a college, in which classrooms are now converted into bedrooms, it reminded us our teenager’s ages ;)
I’ve spent quite a bit of time here and regard it as a home away from home. The staff have always helped me and made me feel welcome. The location is perfect, right in the centre of time two blocks from parque Calderon. The prices are really good value and the rooms spacious, in fact the whole building is spacious and there is a nice terrace at the top of the building where you can chill out and look upon Cuenca. When I’m in Cuenca this is the place I always go.
NOT RECOMMENDED. cold showers. And cuenca is cold already. Cold showers, tiny not so good breakfast, kind of claustrophobic rooms, and bad vibes.
I stayed at this hostel for a week and returned recently to stay again (they allowed me to keep my extra baggage 🧳 there while I traveled around the country 🇪🇨 at no extra charge). The staff is very lovely and accommodating and the rooms are comfortable. *Ensure to ask for a room with windows and a larger bed if it is available. You can book at a cheaper rate for hostelworld and Booking.com and the staff will honor that rate for the duration of your stay.Breakfast is not lavish but it is sufficient and is served on the terrace with a beautiful view of city 🌆🌃I’ve since revised my review to state 3 ⭐️ because certain things have become more of an issue here as of lately. One thing: the internet goes in and out of connectivity which is disruptive if you are streaming movies.Secondly: the breakfast has fallen off. The woman who prepares the breakfast makes the eggs in advance instead of fresh when you arrive to eat—yuck.
Simple, clean, cheap, great location, roof terrace to chill at, very friendly staff… All you need :)
Really horrible service and the owner + the people that work there are extremely mean and arrogant. Do not ever stay here.
Cant beat this hostel for only $8/night. Showers are hot with plenty of pressure. Beds are clean. The staff is nice. The upstairs balcony area is a nice place to have a drink or two.
Superb rooftop view, convenient location, friendly staff, good shower pressure with hot water and fast wifi. The best place in town.
The hostal has a very good location. The bathrooms are shared, but they were always really clean. The breakfast is included and its a good one.The attendant is really nice, shes alone to do everything but she doesnt show it and is always helpful.Theres a rooftop that is great, with an amazing view at night! The only negative point is that you can easily hear the streets noise. However it didnt bother us
Good customer service, bathrooms are big, always clean, lots of hot water, centrally located
Very nice hostel with cool location and comfy rooms. The staff is also very helpful and speaks both English and Spanish
Very good value, no fuss place in a great location. The managers are very nice, especially Veronica. Rooms are simple but neat, breakfast as well, and the views from the terrace are unbeatable. Kitchen is a bit simple, and bathrooms/wc could be a little better, but for that price its still a steal. Thank you!
Rooms are super cosy. View from 5th floor is best in city. Kitchen facilities. Just the mens showers and bathrooms are all in one area with separate cubicles, so lack of privacy with mens bathrooms, but otherwise a cosy place in heart of el centro.
Great hostel. Nice big room with comfy bed. Communal bathroom was clean and shower was hot.Nice breakfast included.Reception staff speak very good English.Communal areas.Great views from the roof terrace.Very central to the old town and near to sights, restuarant and bars.Good laundry service available.Fast WiFi.We were allowed to wait in the communal area after arriving early.
The staff was hardworking and hustled. The building was truly historic and felt old. Some hallways were rather dim. The shared bathrooms while clean were rather cramped. The price is unbeatable. The included breakfast exceeded expectations. The view from the roof is spectacular!
I feel sorry for the guy but people need to know. My entire body is covered in bed bug bites, they managed to get in my bags so unfortunately I have probably transferred them to other hostels/hotels and now I will have to throw away everything I own and buy new. This turned out to be a very expensive experience I hope others can avoid. Sorry to the owner but he should not lie about this issue to his customers, best to be honest until you get the situation repaired and let the people know what the risks are until all problems are resolved. I am surprised he has not been sued yet for health and property materials lost due to infestation.
It is cheap and good located - but Never again! Dont sleep in 113. It is noisy from the street and right next to the reception and there is always noise.
HORRIBLE hotel! Bed bugs in my room! bitten all over my back and arms! when reported first thing in the morning, i was told my the older gentleman on reception i should have told them in the middle of the night at reception once i felt the bites. i didnt know for sure what it was in the night because i was half asleep! it was only in the morning i noticed the bites all over me! which i reported FIRST thing once i woke up...No compassion from the gentleman on reception, and i quote when i asked if there was anything he could do for me.... " did you spend the night in the room? " i replied yes, then i cant refund or do anything for you....wow! it was actual laughable. i was really disappointed in the service from this gentleman, clearly has no experience in customer service. Im not usually one to leave reviews but i feel this needed to be reported.
Carlos the desk manager was very courteous and helpful. The people were very friendly and polite. Location and price was excellent.
Should be a 5/5 rating as it is honestly the best hostel in Cuenca. Cheap, clean, quiet. Lots of friendly staff and travelers. Moreover, they have cheap beer, spacious rooms, free breakfast and a rooftop terrace that boasts one of the best views of the entire city. Stay here
Good hostelThe breakfast is basic. The roof top offers a good view over the city and the mountains. The room is large and we had a shared bathroom which is often cleaned.Staff is nice.Rooms on the street can be really noisy so do not forget your earplugs. We payed a little more than 15$.
Nice place, but one of the dude working the front desk was an a-hole. He needs to go to customer service training because the customer service he provided was an D-
Great location and value. Breakfast was simple but nice. Beds were comfy and room was clean but one could hear everything from adjacent rooms, also a bit noisy outside. Staff was very nice.
Great location, price - value and a real nice rooftop. However they dont have any recycling bins plus the showers are only mediocre warm.
A very simple hotel. The place was clean and organized. Good and complete breakfast.
Old hotel type hostel. Its in the center of the historic district, free breakfast, and an excellent rooftop area with great views and plenty of room to exercise or even sunbathe. Kitchen available for guest use as well.
Hotel Check Inn, very friendly staff. Breakfast is an omlet with toast and coffee or tea with a bread roll and a banana and juice. Eat breakfast out side in the sun on the 5th floor. Theres an elevator so easy to get up and down. The showers are really hot. Have night beers overlooking Cuenca. If you need information ask the receptionist.
Good hostel with a cool rooftop terrace. Just a few things that were a little annoying though: theres no loo roll inside the cubicles, only outside, and theres no lighter to light the stove, so bring your own.
Hot shower! You find provate rooms with big beds here for the same price of a bunk bed in a hostel. Theyre uncomfortable but still worth it. Fair breakfast, perfect location, good structure. Recommend this place.
You get a lot for the 8$ a night: breakfast, big rooms, English-speaking staff and great location. What you dont get is private bathroom, daily cleaning and quietness at night. I can fully recommend this!
Horrible experience overall. The owner, Carlos, is extremely rude. I have no idea why he’s in this business, he has no sense of customer service & clearly doesn’t like dealing with people. When my friend & I arrived we asked for a dorm, and he told us there were no dorms available & that he only had a private room for $18. Hostel World showed 8 beds available for 4-bed dorms ($6and a private room for $15. We showed him the prices on Hostel World and asked what if we had booked it (or did it right then& he basically said we would have been out of luck. We would have preferred to leave but it was a little late and we didn’t have WiFi to look for another place (he wouldn’t give us the password until after we checked in). We finally settled on a private room for $16. It had no windows, was dingy (like the rest of the place), & the bed was dirty. WiFi was horrible, it barely worked and kept going out. Later in the evening 4 girls showed up and got a dorm for $6 pp. Hmmm. The staff who was there over night, Francisco, was friendly & helpful. Breakfast was ok, basic with bread, a plain omelette, banana, & coffee or tea. The woman working the breakfast was very nice. The rooftop terrace is the best part of the hostel with nice views. Showers had hot water but had removable shower heads with no place to hang them.
I WISH I WOULD HAVE READ A REVIEW LIKE THIS BEFORE COMING HERE! ON THE BRIGHT SIDE I HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE, SO YOU DONT HAVE TO! DO NOT STAY HERE! There are so many options in Cuenca! Sleeping in the park would be a better option. The owner, Carlos, is an a**hole. Excuse my french! This hotel is in a great location downtown. The price is good for what it is and it offers free breakfast (eegs, bread, coffee, banana). Its also clean which is good. Downside, the room is a bit dreary and the pillows are hard. Theres also not a great common space.
Great breakfast. Good location, in the centre. Nice roofterrace with view of the city. Comfy beds
The owner is a really nice guy. Breakfast was very good, with freshly cooked eggs and good bread. Excellent value for a single room, and you seriously cant beat the location. Owner also let me keep my bag there all day after checking out before catching my night bus.Not sure what some of these complaints are about, this place isnt the Taj Mahal, but for the price it is great!
rooms and bathrooms are kept clean, however, the level of noise in this place makes it almost impossible to sleep. I stayed in a room on the 1st floor, there is a terrace and kitchen on the fourth floor and I could hear all the kitchen noise in my room. Also, there are no windows facing outside, the room got hot quickly. In addition, there is a naked window above the rooms door that allowed a lot of light to get in, making it very difficult to sleep.overall, clean place but very noise, its on a good zone close lots of attractions but, only stay here if you are really tired and can fall asleep quickly.
Great value and decent rooftop with $2 large beers, quite noisy though (creaky floorboards and shared windowsand the showers never had hot water after 8pm!
Pretty nice place. Clean room and bathrooms. Nice little breakfast. It can be a bit noisy but earplugs took care of that!
Nice location. The views outside the hotel room were stunning. The rooms are clean and warm water is never a problem.
This is what you expect from South America! First place we have stayed that is cheap comfortable and even comes with a free cooked breakfast! For the price its excellent!
comfy bed. clean shower and toilette. amazing rooftop area. breakfast included and is not bad. wifi is good.
Cheap and central, but not cozy. Staff was not very friendly, breakfast was very simple and the shared bathrooms were okay but no bathrooms on the floor I was staying on. Booked a bed in a four bed dorm, but the dorm had eight beds. Nice rooftop terrace.
I stayed there in February 2016. Its old but comfortable. This is a popular place for foreign travelers. There was no secure parking so they let me park my motorcycle in their lobby. I recommend.
I stayed twice in the same week in this place. First time, I was offered a very nice room with big windows and a view. Second time the room was at the back, no windows, which was no problem. However there was a group of people at that time who were making intolerable noise. I complained the next day to the receptionist(Carlosand he was nice and appologitic about it. The breakfast is nothing really, but for the price, and the location, the place is very good.
Private room for two in central Cuenca for $18 plus breakfast (eggs on toast and coffee). No issues with noise, has a balcony on the top floor with views.
Great prices. Lady at the front desk is friendly and helpful, the young guy is pretty apathetic. Clean. Hot water. Shared kitchen available (not much kitchenware but better than nothing). Terrace on the roof. Lounge and movie room. The window in our room didnt close properly but fortunately we were there over the weekend when its much quieter in town.
