Hotel Château Gütsch in Luzern
Description
Pros: the views, the restaurant and service staffCons: some staff (the guy with the man bun at the front desk is rude and condescending), the beds are very very very very soft, they reserve large parties with loud music so you can’t sleep at night
MoreWe stayed at Château Gütsch end of May this year during a much delayed Switzerland vacation (thanks COVID). We typically travel Europe with AirBnB’s but a stay here is truly worth the experience / extra cost. Staff and service was incredible and assisted with anything we asked. The historic setting, elegant lounge and views are breathtaking. Food and drinks were outstanding and exactly what you would expect from this fairytale setting. Thank you to the staff for making the visit to Luzerne well worth the wait.
MoreBest place ever…amazing, wonderful, magical, there is no word can describe it!!! I had the best experience ever… peaceful period of time… friendly staff, kind and helpful ❤️❤️ we enjoyed every single moment… so sad to leave this paradise and definitely I will come back again ❤️❤️breakfast was so delicious with a breathtaking view ❤️❤️thanks for everything ❤️❤️
MoreI loved this hotel. Good service, great rooms, and amazing experience.
The view from this hotel is the best I’ve ever had from a hotel room, and we loved the cable car that takes us into town. We also really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. However, since there isn’t air conditioning in the rooms (just a fanand we came in July, it was around 30C/86F in our room at all times — but it does seem like most hotels in Lucerne don’t have air conditioning so we won’t knock off a star.
MoreWe went to the Chateau for my wife’s birthday to enjoy the views over some drinks and ice cream. First we waited several minutes on the restaurant terrace for someone to show up - then the waiter had to check which table we could have - even though only one other was occupied. After being seated it took again several minutes before someone came to take the order. When we ordered drinks and ice cream we were told that we cannot have those in the restaurant, as re-setting the table for food afterwards would be too much effort. We were told to go to the bar - which was not opening for another 30 minutes. The attitude of the restaurant staff was inappropriate for a place like this. They seem to see paying guests as nuisance. Only positive was that a young guy who was preparing a party setup walked over to ask if he can bring us something while we were sitting outside the closed bar…
MoreUnfortunately the service was very disappointing. Although the restaurant wasn‘t busy and there was enough staff, we waited very long to order and for the food to come. They forgot to bring the wine two times (had to ask three times). We were six people and they brought only five plates (they forgot about my order). And on top of that a few days before I preordered a cake by phone, because it was my moms’ birthday and they said the order didn‘t reach them… when I asked for the bill they said the cake is coming.A huge mess. Not acceptable for a place like that and a big disappointment.
MoreWe went for dinner.. its all about the view OMG .. and well the food is just simply delish
MoreDecent stay at Chateau Gutsch but a number of things kept us from giving a higher rating.- NO WI-FI despite being advertised. It does not work. We tried on several phones and asked staff several times - the login for Wi-Fi wouldn’t even pop up. Staff seemed to know it didn’t work, but suggested I turn my phone off and on rather than investigating or just telling me that -_-- arrival to hotel was difficult. It was far away and we never received instructions on the funicular and almost purchased a bus pass to get up, though this is included with a stay. There is also manyyyy stairs to get to the hotel reception- No AC, our room was very stuffy. I know this is common in Europe, but is it common for a nicer hotel? Not sure, but we were sweating in late May and our other hotels with similar price points had AC. Glad we didn’t visit in later summer months.- I didn’t find many common areas to enjoy the hotel and views. The restaurant was usually occupied, but we wanted to enjoy some in the downtime when we were trying to escape our warmer roomSome redeeming qualities were the look of the hotel (nicely renovated castleand views, the breakfast that was included with our room was very nice and when it wasn’t raining in the morning we got to eat outside.
MoreThe food was okay, however, overpriced. We paid CHF 42 for a vegetarian dish which consisted of roasted cauliflower with some lettuce. The restaurant was dirty. The window sills were full of dead flies. Not something that you expect from an upscale restaurant. Service was slow and unrefined. Such a shame because the location and views are stunning.
MoreAmazing with ICONIC FOOD at @Chateau Gutsh.
The view is obviously great, but the service and the drinks were better. Try the celery gin fiz it’s great, refreshing and fits the view nicely. Our servers were friendly and very attentive as well.
MoreOur farewell drink with 10 people in the Guetsch bar was an unforgettable experience: A perfect barkeeper, cool drinks, nice finger food and - of course - a beautiful view😊👍🥂
MoreBeautiful views over Lucerne, the lake and the mountains - a perfect spot for a sundowner or two.
MoreThe crew should learn how to run a hotel, The restaurant manager seemed classicist and the bar waiter stood over our heads waiting until we pay when we asked for the receipt.Besides place looks like it favours rich Russian oligarchs than respect any decent person coming there.
MoreGreat service and quality. We even got a breakfast bag with us for a very early departure. But too pricey for what it is.
MoreI didnt stay in the hotel but rather went to the sightseeing terrace. Catch bus line 12 from Lucerne Main Station (Stop: Gütsch). Then in about 5 minutes you will be up there. The view is magnificent!
MoreSpectacular views, nice bar and great food! Staff is very friendly and helpful!
Wow, what an amazing castle-like hotel and restaurant. Perched high on a hill above Luzern, the views are stupendous: you can watch Luzern-life from above whilst enjoying a cappuccino or beer. Take the funicular to the top and walk down at your ease ... just lovely.
MoreAmazing. Beautiful hotel and brilliant staff. Thank you for an amazing stay. Will definitely return
Morewe stayed for 2 nights and everything was perfect! beautiful room with lake view, nicely & stylish furnished, yummy breakfast and we had a nice dinner at the bar. very friendly staff at the bar! our dog was allowed everywhere, even in the restaurant! 👍 great running routes (e.g. to Sonnenbergstarting right from the hotel. we will be back for sure.
MoreGreat experience, 3 course menu with wine pairing was perfect
Go check out the view here once in Luzern! The restaurant of the hotel is a nice place to go for a drink or dinner. Their desserts are terrific!
MoreI like the view and the great ambience of the hotel. The room was clean and elegantly furnished and exceeded my expectations.I would have expected more from the kitchen for this price. However, this was offset by the great service.
MoreOne of the best places in the city, nice restaurant and very cool bar with amazing city, mountains and lake view, with very professional and friendly staff. Delicious food and super cocktails. Also terrific architecture and design. Best place
MoreIts absolutely beautiful, great food, great service, great drinks and wine selection! If you have the time its well worth the visit!
MoreIts a perfect spot to look over the city of Lucerne. This castle/hotel has a restaurant/cafe where non guests also can have lunch or coffee here which is great. This time I didnt stay this hotel but probably I would love to do it next time when I visit Lucerne.
MoreDisappointing StayIn the week before circumstances With pur booking….Then:Room ⭐️ After insisting we were able to change the room. They Offered us (1 adult 2 teensto get a second room for the Same price as a room for 3 (meant +300.- CHF again)-we rejected this rediculous offer. Promised welcomedrinks I had to Pay at check out….the First room was Dusty and we found some pubic hairs in the bathroom. The view, you See below…also the Screen for the public viewing was in Front of pur Windows….Minibar was included But beverages for 2 persons???Breakfast average.⭐️View amazing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We will NEVER come back for a stay at Gütsch. But many tourists will step in this trap 😩😳
MoreThis was our 2nd stay at Château Güutsch after a relatively disappointing 1st time (issue with the staff regarding e-bike bookingbut we wanted to give it another try.We were very happy with everything, service, cleanliness of the room and friendliness of the staff. If you are looking for a quiet place with an amazing view on the city, this is the place to be.We recommend the Suite Majorelle
MoreBeautiful hotel at a phenomenal location, which gives it super view of Luzern and the Vier-waldt-städter-see (lake). Also, very nice decor. However, it is very expensive and their WiFi is bothersome & weak.
MoreWonderful sightseeing! I do recommend to stay there for at least one night, if not two. There is a big forest, with a good opportunity to take a walk with your partner and a pet ( if you have one, of course). And stuff in the hotel is VERY polite and welcoming!
MoreFabulous and comfortable hotel overlooking the city of Lucerne. You can go up by funicular (but careful with baggage as there are steps leading up to the hotel from the topor by car. Reception staff are welcoming and lovely, I was given an upgrade for my birthday which was really nice. You can appreciate the fantastic views of the city from the front of the hotel, but these rooms are north facing so you wont have sun on the balcony. There are free soft drinks in the mini bar, spacious bathrooms, and comfortable bedding. One of the highlights of the hotel has to be the restaurant - I had a fantastic dinner of fish with grilled vegetables, which was not only delicious but reasonably priced, and the breakfast is absolutely wonderful!! From fruits to smoked salmon, bircher-muesli to eggs freshly made by the cook behind the buffet, the restaurant staff again were lovely and welcoming. Definitely a place to come for a special occasion, or just to spoil yourself during Covid! Many thanks to all the team in this delightful Chateau.
MoreGreat hotel! A perfect view over the city from the room and great food. Ive already been in a few other hotels in Lucerne, but this one has by far the best view. Also the staff is very friendly:)!
MoreGreat place to grab a coffee and enjoy spectacular views of Luzern! I’ve been to Luzern many times, and this is the best view I’ve seen of the city and of the mountains all at once! I enjoyed a coffee on their outdoor patio. I also appreciated that they were not seating people too close together.
MoreI love this hotel. The view from our room is absolutely breathtaking. We can see the lake and the mountains from our window as well as from the outdoor dining table for breakfast. To top everything off, the staff is very courteous and friendly.
MoreIt’s noted as a 4 star hotel but we are very very far. The breakfast took us 1.30 to have it (40 minutes to orderand it was just awful, they even forgot to bring us plates! We had to change room the second night, the mattress was not comfortable and the pillow as well awful! Don’t come waste your money here
MoreThe Gütsch was an incredibly luxurious, romantic and delightful place to visit. Views of the town from two balconies, attention to detail in historical items in the rooms, over the top breakfasts (particularly smoked salmon, muesli and espresso), and an attentive team restocking a complimentary minibar made for a fantastic, comfortable stay.We both felt this natural, romantic draw to revisit our vows while staying at the Gutsch. It was the first time since our private vow reading on the wedding day that we’d recited them to each other. Revisiting in this intimate setting was the perfect moment and place to do so, and I’ll never forget it.
MoreFunicular and parking lot right next door. Modern yet romantic hotel with lots of medieval interiors. The restaurant is of a high standard. The terrace is the real highlight, as you can see the entire city of Lucerne and the Alps from here. In addition, the adjacent forest invites you to take a relaxing walk.
MoreWow what a lovely hotel in a prime location. It is very up market and a romantic retreat with the breathtaking views over the lake . Our room was spacious and beautifully appointed. Dining in the evening was delightful and staff attentive but not unbearable. Very helpful staff throughout the hotel. Many folks come up to the hotel for the view and to have a drink on the bar which we will do next time we are in lucerne. As we were there just 2 days before Christmas it was extra special with the lights and decorations....just magical. The last day we walked down into the town instead of taking the funicular...walking through the woods was just wonderful .
MoreHotel with a wonderful view of luzern, the ambiance was very luxurious and exclusive, we ordered a Martini and we asked the server to recommend a drink (Rum diaryand it was too good! We ordered a light snack, Aubergine croquet with chili sauce it was delicious. Would love to go again for the service and atmosphere. First class.
MoreWhat an amazing place to stay if you can. We woke up with a stunning view of the city before making our way down for breakfast. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful with everything and you felt like you were well cared for. Given the chance I would gladly stay here again and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
MoreAmazing building with a commendable blend of classic architecture and modern decor. Unbeatable views of Lucerne, with clean and comfortable rooms. Staff are kind and attentive, and the funicular makes city access easy. Well stocked bar with outstanding ambiance. Will be back during future travels to Switzerland.
MoreBook well in advance, maybe 6 months out. Incredible views. We stopped for afternoon snacks. Make sure you walk the grounds and public areas of the chateau. There is a lift that will take you up. Away from the crowds, great walk in the forest.
MoreThe restaurant is a bit touristy, but the meal is fantastic, so it all about perspective. Speaking of perspective, the view is wonderful. Definitely head to the bar for cocktails. Great atmosphere, amazing selection of anything you could want. Cocktail list is impressive, and the spirit selections are even more so. Has a pseudo-speakeasy feel to it.
MoreVery beautiful rooms and common areas. They maintained much of the original architecture and you’ll find cannons and suits of armor on the property. Restaurant has an amazing view of Luzern and prices compared to dining in the city were very comparable. Cheerful and helpful staff were great for getting info on the area and what we should check out. Getting down to the city was very easy and the public transportation brings you very close to the hotel. The old town portion of Luzern is within easy walking distance. Wish we could stay longer.
MoreHotel Gutsch is stunning from the moment you set eyes on it from a distance. The funicular ride up to the hotel is also a great way to get to and from your hotel room. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful from the moment you arrive and the restaurant has some of the best food we’ve tasted in Europe. We were lucky enough to stay in the Alexander suite for our honeymoon and it is mind blowing! Not only is it extremely luxurious, it also includes the best view of the city from the huge balcony and the spa with views of the mountains and Lucerne is second to none.We couldn’t recommend this hotel highly enough!
MoreThe only good thing about this hotel is the location. Apart from this, it does not live up to the standard depicted on the official website. The reception is exceptionally poorly managed. Our hotel voucher clearly mentioned 1400 hours as check in time. We weren’t given a room until 1500 hours (with the receptionist being extremely rude to us). The room was not what was shown in the pictures on the official website. The furniture is way older than they show on the website. Rooms have to be manually locked with a key from inside- something that was probably done 50 years back. No kettles or tea/coffee in the rooms (you apparently have to request for these- surprising for a hotel of this grade). Kindly book at your own risk.
MoreBeautiful hotel with nice view. Staff could be more accommodating. I wanted to cancel my reservation because my train was cancelled. They insisted that they have to charge me in full if I cancel even after I provided all the requested documents like train and flight info. They also didnt bother to reply to my email for 3 days. I had to chase them and call 3 times to get the final answer.
MoreA really beautiful hotel in heart of the city. The views and the overall scenery is unmatched. The staff is helpful. The restaurant is offering breathtaking views of Lucerne and is a great setting for breakfast and a late lunch. The quality of the food and feast aura the service though it did not much the rest the setting and was variable. We stayed for a week and had a fantastic steak and stake tartar the first night but our experience the following days was a let down with not well prepared dinner - please team invest in a good chef -This is the only reason not to give five stars to such a wonderful setting.
MoreBeautiful hotel. It was great starting in sick s landmark. Breakfast on the terrace was great and the bar was a wonderful place to get a cocktail. The room was a little cramped and like a maze, but the view from it was incredible. It got hot at night in the room, but they did provide a fan - there was no A/C which was normal for the region.
