Hotel Arka in Skopje

I didnt stay here, however I went and used the rooftop bar - not many places in Skopje seem to have anywhere you can have a beer in the sunshine. Here you can.And the views are stunning. Service was professional and polite.

This is not a five star hotel. How any hotel can obtain a five star category without even having a restaurant beats me, but the shortfalls went way beyond that. Arriving at the hotel from the main road it’s easy to miss, since its tucked down a tiny little driveway surrounded by other high rise buildings. There’s a large number of steps to climb to reach reception, but there is a lift to the side.The welcome at reception was superb. In fact throughout the stay the staff there were brilliant, being professional yet friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. There’s a large amount of seating in the lobby area and a couple of lifts (one more rickety than the other!serving each of the seven floors.My room was on the fifth floor and was an Economy Double with queen bed. It was a fairly good size with plenty of space but that’s where the positives seemed to end. The windows overlooked the city but there were no curtains, instead having blinds fitted which even when closed let so much light in - forget ever getting the room dark. The queen bed was two singles pushed together, and with the thin single duvets and firm pillows it didn’t offer the most comfortable of sleeps. The air-conditioning was the loudest I’ve ever encountered and was only really effective on one side of the room. There was an electric socket at both sides of the bed, and the lighting was controlled by a small remote instead of switches. The wardrobe was a decent enough size but the TV didn’t really match the size of the room and required using two remotes due to the set-top box. There was a mini bar with small range of reasonably priced drinks.On first glance the bathroom might impress - a large corner bath! Until you realise that there’s no shower curtain installed, so using as a shower is impossible without turning the room into a ‘wet-room’, which to be clear it isn’t. The towels were small and rather harsh, the hairdryer practically useless, dim lighting and only the basic toiletries provided. The bathroom door also had glass panels with no form of blind fitted - fine if you’re staying on your own but might be worth bearing in mind otherwise!A couple of chocolates were on the bed when I first arrived, a nice little touch, but there’s no kettle, coffee machine or bottled water. No option of room service or snacks, and even house keeping doesn’t happen unless specifically requested.One of the reasons I was so excited to stay here was the roof top bar. On the seventh floor it is a fantastic spot, with views over all the city and nice seating in both the sun and shade. What a shame so much more could be made of the space and instead it lost a lot of it’s charm. There’s no background music and the only way to get a drink is to head inside to the swimming pool. Wine is served in individual mini bottles, but always cold, as are the beers. Sometimes a bowl of pretzels is offered with a drink, but usually not, and the prices are alright considering what could be such a prime spot.Breakfast is served until 10am on the top floor next to the swimming pool. All the round tables are huge, seating around seven or eight people, and the rectangular ones surrounding again are massive and excessive for the large amount of couples and single diners. It feels like sitting in a conference room than breakfast room! There’s a small number of hot dishes which are prepared to order with just fruit, cakes, juices and coffee machine being self serve. Even cereal needs to be requested. As soon as you’re seated a plate of meats, cheeses and salad, along with bowl of bread and jams is provided. None of it is the freshest of quality though, probably having been prepared the night before, and I noticed more often than not it went untouched by fellow diners.Would I stay here again? Yes, but with massively different expectations than the five star hotel I’d been expecting. The location is spot on, reception staff a delight, but beyond this is was more a two / three star property.

Nice hotel, not easy to get there

Giving 5 stars for the awesome rooftop bar / cafe and friendly service. The staff were all so helpful. Also the iced coffee was perfect on a hot day. Great views all around!

It was a clean and nice hotel. I like the bathroom that you can enjoy taking a shower as we do in the old times, sitting inside of the bathtub. The breakfast is delicious with a good panoramic view of Skopje. Go to terrace and make a selfie. The staff are so helpful. I needed to make check in late during the night. There are enough parking space. It is the city center so be careful about your driving. Skopje is not good difficult city for driving. Iwould choose this hotel if I go to Skopje again.

Location of the hotel is next to the Old Bazaar and close to the city center, however, I do not really liked the location. They have a panoranic rooftop bar/terrace which is very cosy for romantic summer nights. Staff was really friendly and polite. Overall good place if you are looking for a place in a very busy and loud neighbourhood.

We had a three day training in the hotel. I absolutely love the place. It is in the middle of the old town yet in a peaceful area. The amentities are supurb, the food excellent and the staff very professional.

Nice stay at Hotel Arka.Rooms spacious. Good location in old town, within walking distance of all main areas.Takes Covid seriously.Breakfast was good, and they did accommodate for out dietary needs.Professional staff.Would recommend.

Every morning the mosques were terribly loud, and they always woke me up! At 5 am!! Couldnt properly sleep at all...

Not 5 star hotel in my opinion, but for 60 € worth visiting.. Really located in the center of Skopje

Amazing view from the hotel bar/swimming pool, direct access to city center and very friendly staff.

Very good hotel. Breakfast was marvelous. Always use Google Maps to reach it. If you use Waze you will get in the wrong place.

Staff is very friendly 4 stras for service but the space is not well presented on the pictures.. it is an old hotel with makeup renovation.. just not worth the money...

Excellent hotel in center of SkopjeBig room with all services.Breakfast is excellent !! The attention and service also.The only little problem is the access with the car, is not easy and is chaotic for some moments.

A beautiful, modern place worth a visit. The view of the Old Turkish Bazaar will take your breathaway, great drinks and food, cozy atmosphere and nice staff.

The view from the sky bar is Amazing! Totally recommended, and you can visit it even though you arent a hotel guest

Ok.So I really love surprises.And this one really has sweeten my heart.We wanted to have a coffee with a view of the Old Bazaar and we visited the Arka Hotel where we were greeted by the hotel receptionist and guided to the 7th floor where the terrace is.The manager on duty at the restaurant suggested to have a browse before we decide where we want to sit and have our coffee. It was a plesent surprise when we got the the terrace and picked our table.Magnificent views!!! Old Bazar and part of Skopje..We were surprised by the gesture from the personnel on that day.... treated with respect and got the best sweets ever. Most beautiful chocolate indulgent we could ask for!!!I highly recommend to everyone to visit this beautiful teracce and enjoy every moment of it!!!!We will be back♡Thank you Hotel Arka!!!!

Nice rooftop bar, with great view over the city. Just had a coffee here, you dont need to stay in the hotel to go there. Recommended place for a short stop.

Nice place with professional and friendly staff, food is great, like almost everywhere in Macedonia. The only thing that I have encountered was a very loud noise during the night from prayers from the mosques, since they are everywhere around the hotel, and they woke me up few times during the first night. The hotel provides vanity set, so I had no issues following nights.

Service so bad it was actually scary. I arrived to Skopje after dark without a hotel booked. I saw the glowing sign on the street, then as I turned in, a sketchy-looking guy dressed in a black leather jacket started ushering me inside. Weird -- I certainly didnt need help navigating the alley that led to the hotel. I attempted to ignore the guy & drove on. As I rolled towards the hotel carpark I noticed the guy following me. A note here that the alley was poorly lit, and there were no people around. As I parked, the guy then approached me and was speaking (I guessMacedonian. I again tried to brush him off saying things like "dude, I dont need help" and, "I dont know who you are". I had trouble finding where the hotel was, then, with the guy continuing to follow me around calling out things in a language Id made clear I didnt understand, I found the hotel entrance. As I was asking about the price with the receptionist -- who spoke decent English -- the young guy from outside *came into the reception*. At that point I, fairly angrily told the receptionist that if this leather-jacket guy was working for the hotel then that was not a good way to greet guests late at night. The receptionist then said it was something about parking. I then walked out, saying it was "crazy" to have this random dude with no uniform following people around. The receptionist then literally shouted across the reception "Maybe its crazy but THATS THE RULES!!!"What a place! The final interaction was, as I tried get the hell out of there in my car, leatherjacket was waiting for me at a boom gate, insisting I pay 1 Euro for parking! I refused, he said something about the police, I nodded enthusiastically, then he gave me a last glare and opened the barrier. Not the best welcome to Skopje.

Good location, breakfast room updtairs, friendly stuff

The hotel located by the bazaar,you can walk to almost every tourist places within ten minutes .The hotel provides parking spaces ;Breakfast is good.Hotel looks nice , and the room(king size room )is very big with a large bathtub.the hotel has a roof top pool in which you are not allowed to swim.But what a great pity,the beddings are awfully hard .I feel so heavy and uncomfortable when lying under the quilt .The bed linen feels hard ;the comforter feels heavy;All pillows are too thick which not good for sleeping. I hope they will do better in future.

Rooftop bar at hotel Arka in the old city center of Skopje: from here you can see as well the old town as the popular city center and the Millennium Cross. You dont have to be a guest to have a drink here. Prices or more or less equal to these in the popular city center. Free WiFi available.

Perfectly adequate hotel with clean rooms with a/c. Breakfast includes bespoke omelettes. Dining room has a great view, high up. Staff all friendly.

3.5* I like the staff and service but some rooms are in need of modern renovation. Also its a bit kitsch... take the "pool bar" for example... does anyone actually uses the pool?. Wonderful views of the city though.

This must be one of the best hotels in the city. It is a bit tricky to get to the entrance, but since taxi is to cheap i suggest taking taxi anyways. It is located in the "old town-area" and just behind the large bazar-street. The staff working at the hotel are really good and service minded!

Really great hotel with amazing view from the rooftop. Exceptional service from both reception and restaurant staff. Hotel is just right next door to the old market. We had a brilliant time in Skopje.
