Pretty nice nice hostel, the multi-tiered rooftop garden has a nice view. The rooms are clean and nice.Staff was friendly, but I left my toiletries bag there and still havent heard back from them about collecting it, they are pretty hard to reach through their number, would be better to have a work phone instead of what always to be the owners personal one.
Travellers with bicycles should not stay here, they are not welcome. The owner of the hotel had some kind of problems with cyclists and you are not allowed to put your bike in the hotel. You have to leave it on the street. If I had known that, I would never have chosen this hotel.I have never experienced anything like this in Portugal or Spain! Of course it is the owners right to decide this way, but then he has to state it clearly. Otherwise it is massive rudeness and very unprofessional.
I loved my stay there. The room I had was amazing, clean, with an amazing view on porto. The supplies are amazing as well (you can find wine glasses). The room service was on point. Thanks for the stay !!
Avoid or risk being scammed. My one star rating is a result of the aftermath of this experience. Our stay at the hostel was fine. The day after we checked out, the owner of the hostel emailed me to accuse one of our guests of causing damage to the wall of his hostel with our bikes and asked for money, saying he would contact the police if we did not oblige. I asked for some proof as none of us recall causing any damage. He refused to offer any proof and said that he had already given my details (not sure what details he is even talking aboutto the Police. He backed off once I said that if he continued to threaten me without proof I would report him myself.Looking at some other bad reviews here it is clear that this man has a bit of a habit of scamming.Porto is beautiful but this guy stinksPeace and love x
Very nice people and great rooms and location
Very clean and welcoming place to stay close to the busiest areas, I really enjoyed my 4 days in Porto 👌😎 obrigada and see you soon
Total scam, avoid at all cost.
Avoid like the plague! We booked a few nights there, but when we arrived, it turned out it was completely different from the info given on the booking website. The owner promised to refund us for the upcoming nights. After that - not a word. Doesnt answer messages, e-mails or phone calls. Still no money after 3 months. This guy is the worst type of scammer.
Clean,tidy and affordable
Its was a horrible experience the hostel is bad the beds a lot of noise and the cheapest mattress ever the rooms are small and a lot of humidity and the balcony door dont close properly so you get freezing plus its small and 6 people in the room its too small so you cant breath and the hostel has 2 toilets all what I can say its horrible and the owner lives in the same building with his family and they keep watching you if you consuming the electricity and theyre rude and not Humble
An excellent place to stay! Comfy bed, great breakfast and hosts that were very friendly, informative and gracious. Well definitely stay here next time were in the Porto area! Hard to find but worth it!
Same as the other reviews: great hosts, clean, close enough to the main town you can walk there (over the iconic bridge!), but far enough that it’s quiet and relaxed. Excellent, would stay there again next time in Porto.
(Handtuch gegen Aufpreis 1,00€)Kontinenrales Frühstück..Alles in Allem Preis-Leistung top
Very nice hostel in a great area. The owner and the staff are all super friendly (thanks for all the nice breakfast chats). Theres terraces and rooftop gardens and its very clean and quiet if you need some time off from the partying hostels. I definitely recommend this hostel - hope to be back soon!
Owners are such a lovely couple! We had a lovely holiday in a very home-like environment. The breakfast was good (especially the chocolate cakeand location was excellent. Lovely views. The owners are so helpful and will tell you good tips. I can truly recommend! I wish that one day we can go back there again!!
Be carful from leaving your stuff in the car outside the hostel. My car got broken into and lots of my stuff stolen
Loved this hostel, very friendly staff, felt just like home to me! Good breakfast to start the day!
We had a great stay at the hostel, we were very well received with information about what to do, where to go. Very clean room and cosy. Make sure to ask for AC our room didn’t had it. Best hostel breakfast we got in our whole trip.
Amazing hostel, super nice staff ! Joao is really nice and always trying the best to host clients. Alexandra is also really nice ans gave us good adresses to go around the town !
I had a great time staying at this hostel. It was very well-maintained, super clean, staff were fantastic it felt just like I was at home. There are views from the top floor balcony over Porto. There are some fantastic restaurants just down the street overlooking and right along the river which I highly recommend and many different Port tasting bars.
A very nice hostel. Its clean and offers everything you could ask for, for a very good price. It also offers complimentary breakfast. The owner is very nice and helpful. The views from the rooftop are stunning.
Best hostel i stayed in Porto.Amazing location on Gaia side with green garden on the roof overlooking central Porto and river. Amazing view especially in the evening. You can buy bottle of port wine and drink during evening...Stayed in dorm and on second visit in private room with my girlfriend. Both visits amazing. Clean rooms and bathrooms. In morning huge breakfast is served by owners family.I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Porto.
Amazing place and super clean!!
I had a flight cancelled heading to Porto, Portugal and I was without WiFi. When I finally reach Porto at around midnight the following day and on my way to to this hostel, I get the following message:Im João Saavedra, the owner of the hostel Gaia Porto, and father of two little boys, that I just missed to put them on bed because I was waiting for a miserable person like you. That simply didnt show up at the Hostel and didnt had the honesty of sending a email or a text to cancel the reservation. You are the smart guy that give a invalid credit card to book this reservation and now we werent able to charge you the three nights. Dont worry, I will do everything to charge you this miserable amount of 45€ of your reservation. Our family wish you a great 2019.Kind regards,João SaavedraCEOAs well as a message from my bank advising me they had blocked the transaction in question and were replacing my card (I am abroad...). Thanks Joao, youre clearly a sane and great host from your kind words.STAY AWAY from this place, I did.
Very warm host by Juau and very quiet place to chill.
This is a very cosy place. Its great if you just want a place to sleep on your travels. The beds are very comfortable, everything is very clean, its family owned and it shows in the attention to detail. I wouldnt suggest this place to solo travelers who want to meet people in a social environment, just because the communal areas are quite small and so is the hostel. Good place to recover for a couple nights though.
A perfect place from which you can visit Porto. Although is in Viana de Castelo is near de river, and the great Ponte Luis I, where you can have a drink or a meal in many places. The owner is very kind, offered us a porto wine, and had a place to store or bikes. Also there is a terrace with nice views. The price is very affordable and the breakfast is included!
Ideal location to see lisbon
Very nice hostel, I could say hotel.Breakfasts were delicius, the host very friendly, a room very comfortable and clean. Beside it quite close city.
In the right part of the city to visit Porto wineries, great staff and facilities, dont hesitate come here to visit this wonderful town
Perfect and comfortable
Very nice hostel and a awesome host who genuinely cares for his guests!
Had a very good time and excellent breakfast in this place, not to forget a welcome shot of Port wine! Pleasant conversations with owners. Wonderful view from the roof, 5 min walk to the river embankment and Port cellars. Thank you and see you one day! Anna from Pisa, Italy.
Friendly owners, greeted with delicious port and cake on arrival. Nice, free breakfast. Plenty parking outside the door. Comfortable and clean rooms. Owners have a wealth of knowledge and great recommendations for Porto and all of Portugal.
Very clean, new building furniture... I recommend.
Home Home Home
Nice comfortable place to stay across the river. Walking distance from the port cellars. Quiet and cozy!
I stayed at Gaia Hostel with a friend and we had an amazing time. Jõao and his family are more than friendly and made us feel at home. The highlight was the dinner they prepared. Recommended! The rooms are clean, very modern and nice. Being located at a sweet little alley up the hill in Gaia you will have an amazing view on the city from one of the garden terraces. Many thanks again Jõao!
Wonderful hostel with all the facilities you need and Marta & João are very open, tell everything you want to know about Porto and helps you out with everything.
