Old gin barrels line this bustling, quaint Dutch pub dating from 1670, with a covered terrace.
Great pumping atmosphere. Standing room only - inside and out. Great bar service. You could do a lot worse. Good crack!! 🤣🤣
The interior was nice, the beer casks looks amazing but that’s all. No craft beers, just 7-8 draft beers and some bottled ones.
Cozy little place, perfect for grabbing a bite and some snacks. Service was good and the atmosphere is exceptional.
Great spot and sitting outside is a prime area for watching the world go by! Service is fast, there’s a good range of drinks and a place I’m always happy returning to!
Racism alert: it’s probably a good idea to visit this place if you are not a person of color. If you are a person of color be ready to be ignored.. We sat there for 40 minutes and staff chose to ignore us, even after we went to the counter multiple times. Hope the staff had fun making us aware of our ethnicity.
Always, always come here for the gin. Great vibe in the bar and excellent staff.
Great place to grab a pint and people watch.
I give them one star because I can not give less. Their attention to the customers it’s awful, We wait over half an hour to get attended and after waiting and ask the waitress to take our order of the waitress scream to us with no reason and making fool of usI dont recommend to anyone to go there , there are much more better restaurants in Amsterdam
Amazing historical site! The bar staff were super friendly - told us about the history of the location and details about the bar. Such a wonderful spot!
If I could rate it 0 star, I would.Old female waitress is ridiculously rude and unfriendly. Terrible service.Dont be a waitress if you have such a terrible attitude. (It seems this rudeness is common only with the foreigners, with the locals she was smiling!)Do not recommend!
What a lovely place to have good food and drinks. After shopping we came upon this place, walked inside, dropped our bags and spent the next few hours enjoying our time. The staff were very nice. The food above average but the beer selection kept us there longer than we were planning. The interior is relaxing and comfortable. We were having such a nice time, neither of us took any photos. Sorry about that!
The place I return to when Im in Amsterdam, attentive service, nice beer and snack selection and the location is hard to beat.
Good beer, nice snacks, friendly service. What else do you need to enjoy the evening in Amsterdam. 🙂
Great beer selection and ambiance. Have been coming here for years and always have a fantastic time.
Centrally located, great beer, very friendly staff, nice outdoors sitting.
I went to Amsterdam for my first time earlier this month. This unique pub has cold, crisp beers, great service and tasty snacks. If you sit on the patio, it’s a great spot for people watching. Otherwise, sitting inside has a nice atmosphere.Almost every day of my trip my partner and I found ourselves back at this special spot. We had a saying while we were there, “All roads lead to Hoppe!”
It’s a classic in town, nice coffee. The staff wasn’t very service oriented though.
One of the "must see" of Adam. The atmosphere is unique, specially in rainy days. The floor is covered by some sand. Id been there with a customer/friend one evening in the mid of the week and we have the traditional Dutch "haapjes" with excellent beer and at the end an "oude jenever". They are kind and friendly. Only remark, you can not book a table in advance. Often is crowded. Price like Dutch average.
Perfect spot for beer and quick bites
Best pub in Amsterdam. The Amstel beer they serve must be the best served draught beer I have ever had. The foam is always the same, at the level I enjoy best. The service is very quick although the atmosphere is very cool. Must have with the beer, the meatballs !!!
phenomenal experience. great beverages. fantastic atmosphere. it was so good you just wanna ping the hosts in your cons to receive some euros!
The worst place ever the most rude and disrespectful waiters 🤬 The old lady waiters was very mean to international people and tourists.Dont ever go to this place, its the worst and the coffee is also the worst and tasty like s**t. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢
Standard lunch. Pretty small 200ml refreshments for water or coke. Not good.
Must go to when youre in Amsterdam!
Nice bar experience with sand on the floor and nice beers on tap.
This is a must check!! When you visit Amsterdam you need to visit the oldest bar in Amsterdam! It is really awesome to enter but also outside you get an awesome service!Always happy to be there to get a drink and a bite! Ask for the Bitterballen and topical amsterdam snacks.Great service and lovely environment!
My favourite bar. The chicken noodle soup is the best
Tried their seasonal beer, quite delicious. There are two parts of the café, the older one has a more ancient feel with a good atmosphere.
Nice relaxing place for beers, cocktails, and snacks. Great spot for people watching. Charming atmosphere in a central spot on on one of Amsterdams most charming streets.
Great atmosphere, large aperol spritz and delicious snacks! Best spot for people watching ❤️
Always my fav place for coffee and catch ups!Insta @athleticmove
On my first visit there, I told them I was a Hoppe and after proving it, they gave me a pen.I will be returning next week for another pen. :-)
Incredible stop if you are exploring the streets of Amsterdam!
We stopped here to have a break from heavy rain, we took hot chocolate and a muffin. They were pretty good, bartenders were really nice and friendly, we loved this area.People in Amsterdam are really lovely.
Very nice and friendly server, even though it was so packed and busy.
Nice place but was far too busy on a Saturday afternoon. Wait staff seemed to be frantic and understaffed. I was sitting by the bar and couldn’t help but notice to clean used glasses they simply dunk a glass in a sink full of very lightly soaked water and let it dry. No scrubbing.....I ordered a beer and asked to see if they did fries, the Dutch way (with cheese). They did not, and in fact they did not do fries at all. Strange for a pub!
Iconic cafe in the centre where you’re served in both departments by an outstanding staff...Have a chat with locals from different backgrounds ...that’s also Amsterdam :)
This bar is worth visiting just to learn about its history. Its also the perfect spot for a quick drink while watching the cyclists wizz by. Prices are decent and food is good portions. Service could be a bit faster, but no complaints here.
Dining in a place with so much history was wonderful. Its a beautiful old building and a decent menu. Great to stop in for a drink, enjoy the ambiance or have a meal. The burger was really good.Bathrooms available upstairs.
Nice bar with historical story. The beer is good and the place itself is like living museum.
If you want a piece of authentic Amsterdam culture this is the place. Opened in 1670, Hoppe is a tiny bar from another time, even down to the sawdust on the floor. An excellent selection of beers and spirits (ask for a jenever for the full experience), with all the bar snacks you could wish for. Get the cheese and bitterballs, you wont regret it!
If you want an authentic Dutch pub where the locals go, this is it. Its several hundred years old, and they serve traditional Dutch drinks and popular drafts on tap.I wouldnt recommend having wine, it tasted like it had been open too long. This is a beer place, drink the beer.Authentic historic atmosphere, not the fake Disney kind. I highly recommend it.
Always enjoy Hoppe! Tucked away, one easily overses this lovely true-Amsterdam bruin cafe The guys behind the bar run the operation professionally and keep a close a eye on the crowd, both inside and on the covered terrace. Perfect ambiance to nibble on some bitterballen, accompanied with a glass of wine, on a Sunday afternoon!
One of the oldest cafes in Amsterdam with regular customers. A fantastic place to meet local people.
The Hoppe bar is a great snug little bar with a dark and cozy atmosphere. The bartenders are agreeable and easy going. There is a good selection of beers, and nice standing bar or seating along the side for a cozy chat and a few drinks. I love the decor of this place and definitely recommend stopping in.
Fun little Dutch pub. Amstel on tap. Filled with locals on Friday and Saturday evening.
A beautiful old style bar with a good choice of beer and jenever. You also get much more to eat and drink, but we were just here for a drink. The staff is eminently friendly and quick. As it was our first jenever, we even got a free sample of a different style to taste the difference.
During my one week stay in Amsterdam I visited this place 3 times. I liked it so much that I couldnt resist coming back. It has an amazing Amsterdam atmosphere, really good beer and snacks and feels really authentic.Although there are always a lot of people here and waiters can be a bit slow, it doesnt make this place any worse.Ill definetely come back next time Im in Amsterdam!
Great old bar, extremely attentive and friendly staff. Good choice of beers and spirits.
A piece of history with some great local beers...but you really must try the aged Jenever while youre here. Its like a gin but aged for 10 years in wood barrels which gives it a smooth smokey taste.
