New American comfort food, local beers & house cocktails in an industrial-chic space with a patio.
Russell was one of the best servers we have had in Cali. The food and drinks were superb. Can’t wait to come back with family and sit in this booth. Keep it rolling!
We went for my birthday- my first big dinner out with my infant, and not only were they helpful in ensuring we had a table where we could park the stroller, but our server (Arielwas a wonderful help with me having to be dairy free as well as bringing hot water when I forgot the bottle warmer, plus helped us cut and serve my cake from Pushkins! It made all the difference in me being able to enjoy the night.
Oh I had was a coffee and it was great. The outside patio area is really nice would definitely come back here to eat and hang out
I was disappointed in the pizzas we ordered Funghi and Spicy pig...our items were hard as biscotti and thin as a salten cracker... It was not a pizza it was a leaven piece with sauce and cheese. The Funghi was to have mushrooms on it ...it was less than a tablespoon for a 12inch round...the spicy pig was meatless....no bacon, no ham and no sausage...no pig....it was around $17 each...
Fresh ingredients, went late afternoon 3ish, had a limited Mid-day menu, still a nice selection of food. Great service
Delicious food. Friendly staff.
Nice casual restaurant bar. Ambience is inviting, food, especially the appetizers were super good, and cocktails are for the most part good. Service, particularly the host, good be more friendly and attentive. Our waiter though was superb. He recommended a dessert but we did not liked it. He took the cost of the dessert off the bill, which was much appreciated. Will definitely go back.
Delicious dishes!! The chicken liver toast is a must try if you like pate, and they grilled octopus is also a winner!!Cool atmosphere, great servers!
Came at an odd time between lunch and dinner but they had a very small menu and they accommodated my friends who were gluten and dairy-free. I had the burger was delicious. My friend had the chicken sandwich. We had some salads. It was all very good and very peaceful to sit since it wasnt very busy!
Tried this place yesterday and it was amazing. Everything from the atmosphere, décor, food, and ambiance was perfect. We really enjoyed our brunch here. I had the eggs benedict and my boyfriend had a pork dish with chilies (forgot the name). Definitely coming back!
Surprisingly good with a cute outdoor patio. Affordably priced with good quality ingredients. Water was a nice mineral level, not too crumby given it’s probably from the tap. Would return. Pizzas are a strong point. Pasta as well.
The mixed greens, mushroom pizza, rock cod and panacotta were all excellent. Very friendly and attentive service.
We recently hosted a rehearsal dinner for our son and daughter-in-law on the back patio at H&L. The patio space is just lovely! The contact (and server for the eveningwas Roy. He went above and beyond to be helpful both before and during the event. When one of our guests requested a vegan meal, it was taken care of immediately. When we had a last minute table reconfiguration, that was taken care of as well. Roy saw we had 4 young children and coloring materials magically appeared…along with kid friendly food. Did I mention how good the food was? We had both the brick chicken and salmon with lentils. I heard numerous guests rave about both and I thought they were delicious. The bartender was excellent! (Sorry, I don’t remember his name. All in all, it was a memorable, fun, and tasty start to a fabulous wedding weekend! Thank you Hook and Ladder!
A better American restaurant in Sacramento with curated cocktails and food. Great place for a meet up or leisure. The waiters are very amicable and the bartenders even more so.
We came in for our daughters birthday May 15th about 7 pm. The restaurant was not busy. Our food was pretty good, the shrimp was overly oily with not the best taste. Broccolini was good. Chicen sandwhich was pretty good. Our server was non existant. After our food arrived we never saw her again. We sat there waiting with no water or drinks for the duration of our meal. I had to go find our server to pay.We were all super hot as we had sat on the patio and were ready to leave frustrated.Bathroom was out of supplies.
Great food, great cocktails, an amazing dining experience!
I always liked this place. I think the first time I went I had an octopus appetizer. This time I enjoyed the brick chicken. It was very good.My friends didnt like their cocktails so much, but they had some pretty good wine choices, so Id definitely come again for the caliber of food and wine.
Visited here for a family dinner. We had reserved the table ahead of time. Place was reasonably busy, even though there wasnt much waiting to get the table. We ordered Papas Bravas and few cocktails to start with. Also sandwiches and pizzas for main course. Papas Bravas was really awesome. Pizzas and Sandwiches were great too. Great place to hangout with family and friends. Since located in downtown, you have to park on the street. Overall we had a great time.
Loved the food! The chicken sandwich on the lunch menu is exactly what we was craving for. Double cheddar burger excellent. Fries and hashbrown with spicy ketchup thumbs way up. Non alcoholic drinks were so good
Excellent place. Food was delicious. Service a bit slow. But worth it . Ryan and Tuner did their best 😉 and I appreciate it.
Great ambiance. Food prepared quickly, friendly staff and not too noisy. I had the Margareti pizza... The crust was perfect, but the sauce was remarkably lacking in flavor. Maybe I should have ordered a side dish of pesto and something spicy. My teammates loved the H&L burger, the salad was really yummy and the fries were too.Im sure Ill go there again sometime.
Loved the decor, a lil too dim lighted for me. But service was polite and curtiou. Food was delicious. I ordered scallops, They were tasty paired well but portioned small. The lil neck clams were devine ×ith warm toasted bread! I will attend again.
Everything I have ordered here was always tasty. I dont usually care for fish, and least of all olives--but they had this one dish with both, and I was surprised to find that I liked the olives the most! The drinks are good! Someone brought me here once, casually saying that the bartenders here are the best in town. I think Ive had drinks from the same bartender twice--and Im a big fan of the white linen that they make.TIPS: Reserve in advance if you want to have dining or patio seating, as they recommend!
The gnocchi I had was fabulous. According to my dining companion the pizza is also amazing. Friendly staff. Vegan friendly. The Nakatoddy Plaza not only has a great name but was a great drink.
Delious brunch options, and their cocktails are spot on. The Pink 182 is spectacular. Dont forget an order of their bacon chive biscuits with the honey butter, yum!
Overall we had a good time with a couple negatives:The atmosphere here is hip and fun, the parking is not. They have a full bar, we ordered their ginger beer on tap and a mocktail, both were fantastic. We ordered 3 small plates (Burrata, Octopus Al Pastor, Shoshito Peppers)and an entree (Chicken Sandwichto share. The small plates were fresh, fun and creative... they were amazing. The chicken sandwich wasnt on par with the rest of the food, and as we got about halfway through we noticed it wasnt cooked all the way through, which brings me to our server, who might have been having kind of a stressful night. He slightly made fun of us when we were figuring out how to use the QR Code to bring up their website (they dont have menus and we have new phonesand he really couldnt care less when we tried to tell him about the undercooked chicken. Despite this, we had a pleasant time with some great food.
Great small place! I ordered the salmon and it was super fresh and delicious, the veggies that came with it were cook perfectly. The menu is small, but the drink options are good. Food came out fairly quickly and our waiter was friendly.
Previously 5 starts however, Ive updated to two. The host at the counter that seems like a manager was INSANELY rude. Had it not been for my husbands birthday I would have left. Grey haired man wearing a black mask with blue writing. I believe his name is Chris. The food was good though.Came for date night with my fiance, had the burrata app special and it was incredible. I had the fried chicken sando with salad for dinner and it was amazing such good flavor.y fiancee had the lamb pita special and it was also very yummy
Highly recommended! We came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon at 2 PM. There’s two outdoor seating areas, a garden area in the back and the front porch. The food is distinct with consideration and unexpected ingredients which makes for a recommended dining experience. Will come back to order cocktails, looks like a fun bar scene. Love all of the decor. We ordered:eggs Benedict Porchetta– Porchetta was a tasty surprise which I highly recommend. Perfect amount of hollandaise sprinkled with chives on grilled brioche toast. Potatoes were Nice and crispy and cooked through. The breakfast burrito. – good dish but not my favorite breakfast burrito. I like traditional breakfast burritos with potatoes, this one had excellent hashbrowns, chorizo, and more eggs than you will usually get, Which makes a good value but not how I personally like it. This is probably just more of a personal preference.
Wow wow wow! What a wonderful surprise it was coming here! Extremely intimate if you’re sitting on the back patio (which we obviously had to due to covid. Our server was very nice and attentive. He knew flavors and what paired well with each other.Their cocktail list is really beautiful and presentation is outstanding. I got a Campari and soda along with some bitters in my soda water (which the server suggested because I have a very sensitive stomach ***thoughtful***).We started with the Burrata which is on the dinner menu. Oh my lord this had to have been the best appetizer I have ever ordered! Fresh ricotta, golden beets, pistachios, sautéed fennel, and a balsamic reduction on toast. Truly, my heart fluttered! My entree was the short ribs with horseradish whipped potatoes. Really delicious and hearty, it was a really cold day so that definitely warmed me up. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich which was equally as delicious. 10/10 would go here again. I’ve already started to tell my friends about this place and blasted my Instagram stories with our food pics haha! Cheers!! You guys are doing a great job!
Edit: the breakfast burrito has NO BUSINESS being this good.First time here, wife and I came for happy hour. Delicious food and decently priced! The cheese steak and tater tots are highlights!
Hook and Ladder is a fun and casual restaraunt. I has the Chicken Brick which was fresh, delicious and a good sized portion. The menu was somewhat limited due to just reopening after the Covid shutdown, but had something for everyone. They have appetizers, salads, sandwiches and main entrees. The service was super friendly and attentive. We enjoyed our visit very much.
Ordered through DoorDash recently, got the Chicken Sandwich which was burnt down to the meat itself. I never have gotten poorly cooked food from here before, guess something happened to cause quality to go down.
Great lunch and dinner joint in Midtown and a nice alternative to the Ice Blocks. The refurbished outdoor seating area is quite pleasant. Food is tasty and drinks are stiff. Stop by if youre in the area - you wont be disappointed!
We ordered the Thanksgiving meal this year and it was loaded with modern twists of classic dishes for the holiday. It made our simple more at ease, the pick up was easy and pandemic cautious. Much appreciation, Hook & Ladder and chef!
Highly recommend. The food is fantastic, as well as the drinks and service. Definitely get the shrimp appetizer, it is amazing.
This place has a really cute industrial vibe, and the food is great, with plenty of vegan and gluten free options. I got the brick chicken and it was amazing! The service was friendly, although the food took a while, but perhaps that was because business was slow. There were only one or two tables filled besides my friend and I, which was a bit surprising since we were there at lunchtime. The food, although delicious, is a bit pricey, and unfortunately all the parking nearby is 1 hour or metered, so I had to move my car halfway through my meal. I probably couldnt afford to eat here often, but its a nice place to splurge once in a while. Its definitely worth checking out if you have a little time and youre not too tight on cash.
The food at Hook and ladder was really good. Tried their chicken Sando was quite delicious. Their fries is definitely unique, different from McDonalds and BK and hyper delicious and crispy. My favorite was the H&L burger! That guy is truly delicious.... Add some bacon to that brisket and chunky Patty and you get a food for the God so delicious Im drooling just thinking of it.
If you want a 10/10 atmosphere this is the place. We got dinner and drinks here and the only spot they lost points were in the drinks. We sat at the bar before getting seat and order some from the bartender. They were tasty but had no traces of alcohol in their mules, kind I’d disappointing to say the least. Food was great as well as the service. I would suggest another place for drinks which is disappointing because they have such a great bar for it.
Excellent food and a nice atmosphere. If youre there for brunch be sure to try the smoked salmon hollandaise, its delicious.
Really decent brunch place and accommodated an eight person walk-in party easily. one number of our party is a very picky eater and she ordered the French toast and it wasnt up to what she was expecting, and they went ahead and remade the breakfast and comped it for her. A+ experience
My daughter and I went to Hook and Ladder for brunch. I had the Eggs Benedict with porchetta; she had a cheeseburger from the kids menu. The food was fine, but not great. Both the porchetta and the potatoes that came with the Benedict tasted like theyd been in the fridge for a while, but the hollandaise on the Benedict was great.Service was also just okay. Our server was friendly enough, but I had to ask for hot sauce for my potatoes twice and she never came by to refill my coffee.
This is such a great brunch spot in Sacramento! We were on the hunt for a good place to eat and spotted Hook & Ladder and got curious. While the interior is spacious with plenty of seating, we were seated outside on their cozy back patio which seemed to hide itself away from the bustle of 17th & S. The food was outstanding; they had something that satisfied each of our tastes and diets. Drinks were also on-point, having a good selection of beers, wines, and mixed drinks, we were more than satisfied! Service was excellent and couldnt have asked for more! If youve never been here, try this place for sure!
Wonderful brunch! Was very pleased that they took reservations. The server was friendly and our food was delicious! I did Benedict with salmon and the salmon was *perfect.* The cheese plate was also a table favorite.
Perfect Holiday Party for my office. Our group of 30 for comfortably in the upstairs space. They had some decorations up but nothing too crazy. We added some extra pizazz to the centerpieces but thats about it. The food was excellent. A yummy salad to start, salmon and steak entrees and a delicious spice cake for dessert. All served on a big platter for each table family style. Our vegan guests even got their own salad (minus the cheese), squash entree and a fudge dessert that even I was jelious of. Service was also excellent. Highly recommend!!!
Highly highly recommend. Great seasonal menus and seasonal cocktails, fresh ingredients, lovely ambience. Plenty of meat options but also an entire vegan menu!
Delicious food, good ambience, slow service. I read a review that the service was great, but that is anything but what we received. The waitress was really slow and I cant really blame her fully since she had an overly large area (about 30 people). The food was delicious - from the appetizers to the dinners. I would give it another try.
I had the highest hopes for this place. But the pizza and charcuterie that we ordered was very dissapointing.I do want to exclaim that the service and the staff was great. They were on the spot with everything and I was highly satisfied with everybody but the chef. I wish I had tried the burger which looked great but I got overruled by the wifey. Drinks were great and the atmosphere was very hip and inviting. I want to go back and try the burger just so I can say Im not writing this place off but, I dont think my better half will go back.
Its Saturday night and were looking for a place to eat in midtown that is dog friendly and takes reservations. The Hook and Ladder Manufacturing Company fits the criteria perfectly. H&L not only features local farms and ranches, but they also stock their full bar with local breweries and wineries.H&L rustic warehouse setting gives way to an open dining room and full bar good for small and large group dining. Theres also rear and front patio dining. A lovely place for a more romantic setting. This our third return to the H&L and it is our "out of the box" place to eat. My son, daughter-in-law, Dexter (my dog), and I each like to order something, appetizer, entree, dessert, and share it three ways. Its a fun way to explore H&Ls forever changing menu. H&L also offers brunch lunch and vegan menus.I think the best thing about H&Ls menu is its eclectic mix of flavors. Take for example our sections for the evening. We chose two appetizers, three entrees, and allowed enough room for two desserts. Again all dishes were shared. Our first appetizer: CRISPY PORK BELLY BITES $9Sherry Maple Gastrique, Brown Butter Celery Root Puree, Marinated Apples. Take a small bit of pork and apple then marry it with the brown butter celery root puree, and the deglaze sherry maple sauce. Take a deep breath though your nose and experiencing usual mix of flavors. Just the right mix of sweetness, saltiness, and cut with acidic balance. Small bites but huge flavors. Our second appetizer choice was: SPANISH OCTOPUS $16Potato Confit, Paprika, Smoked Green Olive Puree. The same holds true with this appetizer. Small bites of octopus and potato mixed with paprika and a smoked green green sauce. A wonderful mix of unusual flavors. Our first selection for dinner was one of the four offered pizzas: BRUSSELS & PANCETTA $18Creamy Brussel Sprouts, Crispy Pancetta, Pine Nuts. We chose this one because the usual mix of ingredients and we werent disappointed. It was very good. Our second entree selection for the evening: FETTUCINE & CLAMS $21Little Neck Clams, White Wine, Butter, Lemon, Parsley. Little Neck steamed clams, in the shell, served over Al Dente fettuccine in a buttered lemon parsley wine sauce. Our final selection for the evening: BEER BRAISED SHORT RIBS $36Whipped Potatoes, Roasted Winter Vegetables, Crispy Carrots. This was my favorite choice of all of our dinner selections. It was very tasty and quite delicious.H&S portion sizes are on the smaller side. More European than American. Which was perfect for us because it left room for their wonderful desserts. To finish things off for this evening we chose two from the dessert menu.Out of the four selections we chose: SALTED CARAMEL POT DE CREME $8Crunchy Chocolate Pearls & Biscotti. A jar of salted caramel, sprinkled with crunchy chocolate pearls, and a biscotti for dipping. Yummy! Our second choice and everybodys favorite: CITRUS TRIFLE $8Lemon Cake, Curd, Satsuma Mandarin Oranges, Mint. A sweet and tangy lemon cake, woven with custard curd, Mandarin wedges, and with mint leaf decorations. This desert was absolutely delicious. So what about the service you may ask? Im glad you did. Tonights server was Hadyn. Shes as unique as her name and an H&L gem. Her spot-on service and warm smile absolutely made our night memorable. When you go to the H&L ask for Hadyn you wont be disappointed.~TOPHATT~As always please like this review if it was helpful to you. As a local guide your likes are important to me.
Accommodated our party of 27 and every one of our Saturday brunch meals was perfection. Service was outstanding and all the staff were sooo nice and friendly. This place is a must!
