Hong Tauw Inn - Thai restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Absolutely delicious!!! Best feed i have had in Thailand. Set 2 (for two peoplewas brilliant and we had two other dishes to make it for three, but actually one more would have been sufficient. So impressed we have been back since and planning on lunch tomorrow too! Well worth a visit. The fermented pork dish was bloody amazing and the red curry the best I have ever eaten.
Food is good, but theres a bald staff kept looking at us like hes anxious for us to pay quickly? haha, he should relax, theres no customers now, literally empty except us. I wouldnt come again
Very tasty food and helpful friendly staff. Even has table clothes. We keep coming back.
Friendly, but the service was a bit slow. Food was ok. Fine for an everyday meal, but if youre looking for something special, there are other places to try.
Clinching star dishes for the day will be fried Sea bass fish and fried kway teow Rest are all good and authentic dishes . Lemon grass drink however was abit diluted for today .
Great food ...really pleasant restaurant and very cheap ...would recommend 👍
food is always delicious. great location, with parking behind.regular diner for over 20 years. traditional Thai food menu.
Well... Ive been in Thailand over 2 months now and this was my best meal so far. I had Nam Prik Ong (tomato, pork and chilli dipand Gaeng Hung Lay (pork and ginger curryand both dishes were phonomonal. Ive eaten both dishes before and also cooked them myself at home but these were the best Ive ever had. Will definitely be back while Im visiting Chiang Mai and recommended this restaurant to anyone. Delicious !!!
The first time weate here was 15 years ago when a friend Ade brought us here when our daughter attended boarding school in Chiang Mai. Today we tried many items from the menu and found everything to be absokutely delicious. All ingredients were fresh and savoury. The Ka Nom Pang Nah Moo with its dip made my taste buds do back flips, the Tao Hu Thod with sweet n sour sauce kept my taste buds in heaven. Next was the Yum Som O pomollo salad with kanom jeen noodles. The sauce accented the flavor and allowed you to taste everything fully. Last was our khao Soi Gai with a broth so tastey i wanted to lick the bowl. Closing with our favorite desert Bualoy Nga Dum Namking.
Really outstanding meal here. Even more so for the price. They specialize in Northern Thai food, so that’s what we tried to order. The Naem and Kanom Jeen were excellent! Every dish was amazing and we got out for under 500 THB including a beer.
An old restaurant that has been on Nimmanhaemin Road for a long time. This restaurant sells Thai food with good taste and quality ingredients. And the price is also affordable, Ive eaten here since I was a kid.If you are looking for a Thai restaurant here this is a good option.
Very nice and delicious northern style home cooked foods. Light, refreshing. The lady was very sweet and nice and attentive, not it seems like family run. Seems to get a lot of local traffic as well.
The food is good but extremely slow. Very disappointing. Not recommended. If you want to come, make sure you have extra time for waiting.
First restaurant we ate at when we arruved in CM 13+years ago. Fiid is still great. Unfortunately you must park along tge curb in front of the restaurant.
Rael and authentic thai food, including northern style.I live in chiangmai mai since 2007, and I think this is one of the best thai restaurants in town. The price, the service, the staff, and ofcourse the food :-)
They have a big menu with a lot of options including various set menus. It seems they cater mostly to tourists and foreigners and make the food more bland. Non of the dishes had much flavour and the red curry was strangely sweet and tasted like they completely forgot to put any chili in. So if regular Thai food is too spicy for you this might be a good option, but if you like genuine Thai food with some spice this is probably not the place for it.
Try the fried egg and the salted fish
Excellent, food really good and very reasonable prices. Food and drinks for 2 for less than 500 tbt. Have been before and will definitely go again. Plain Thai food with no frills. Enjoy 😁
The taste is not bed. But the service of servers are soooooo bed. We orderd 4 pad thai but had only one. They should have apologized to us when they were missed our order.
Always authentic and original Thai cuisine. Not cheap but high quality isnt cheap
Okay but nothing to write home about.Settings are nice and cozy but food is not as tasteful as it should be. Looks like a good place to bring the Thai in-laws though
Good food but small portions, not a bad thing because we can order more food.
Nice restaurant good food with reasonable prices. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Visited this restaurant several times. Mostly ordered Thai food which was cooked and served nicely.
First of all, for the food quality and dining environment vs price, definitely worth a 5 stars. Tastewise, I will give it a 7.7 out 10 of my own scale (based on the foods I ordered). Again, I think it serves quality local Tai food.
Good dishes, love the Deep fried bean curb the most
Good Thai and Northern Thai food.. reasonably priced. Good friend that have lived here 20 years say it is one of their favorite places.
When I walk around nearby at the dinner time, I have a good feeling with this place, so I walk in to order this green curry shrimp and coconut. Its a local taste. Its spicy, but really good! And the staff are nice, very nice price.
Good tasting food! Each dish served in small portion so you can order many variety of menu. We ordered 11 dishes and 3 large beer for about 1,700 baht. The service us very friendly but can be a bit slow.
Good food. Portions and quality were great, and there was no problem ordering vegetable only meal even though this wasn’t an option on the menu. The mushroom with chili sauce and smokey eggplant were standout great dishes.
Sweet and sour had rotten pineapple in it. Deep fried small shrimp was horrid. The pork spring rolls were barely average and the red northern curry was alright. Avoid if even slightly picky about your food.
The food was incredible! The portions were great for a very good price and the staff was very friendly. I’m not good with spicy food and they made an amazing non spicy Khao - Soi Kai for me. I truly recommend the place and that dish
Amazing restaurant! Great food at a cozy atmosphere. Probably the best price value you can get at Chiang Mai for an authentic Thai cuisine.
After a few things on a stick across the road, I required more local flavour and wandered over to here. Once inside it was quite busy and got seated at a table, ordered thai beef salad and a soda water. Food was fresh and tasty with the right hint of chilli zhang. Portion size seemed to be the norm here. I et, paid the bill and wandered off into the night - seeking a bus stop - which after waiting what seemed an eternity took me on a lost ride to the edge of the city, past the airport - not exactly where I wanted to be. All in the joy of travel - this city is safe so no matter other than tired feet.
Very cozy Thai family style restaurant. We really enjoyed the food here. Be aware that some dishes are quite spicy. Love the mango sticky rice here!
Went to this restaurant after reading the positive reviews on TripAdvisor. We had lunch and dinner on 2 separate occasions. Lunch was rather disappointing. Ordered the pineapple fried rice and it tasted rather bland, devoid of stir-fried flavor which you would expect from this famous dish. Dinner was slightly better. We had the stir-fry flat rice noodles (kway teow), crab meat fried rice, appetizer and desserts. The main dishes were palatable but I cant say the same for the dessert. While most dishes are inexpensive, do note that the portions are rather small.Restaurant is conveniently located on the main street of Nimmanhaemin, close to Maya mall and U Nimman Hotel. The food is pretty much average, nothing to shout about. So go only if you ran out of dining options.
Service, food, ambiance all excellent. Prices very reasonable. Great place to get hard to find local dishes. Always make a point to visit when in town....
Delicious Thai Northern food, friend staffs.
Descent thai restaurant. Food is good and reasonable price.
I tried this restaurant on the recommendation of a Thai colleague, and I was very glad I did. It has a cozy atmosphere and nice food, and it was very easy to order food from the English-friendly menu using the numbering system. Staff werent especially friendly, but they were efficient and food came quickly and was served hot. Im not an expert on Thai food, but this met/ exceeded my expectations in taste terms and Id be very happy to eat there again given the chance.
Excellent Northern Thai menu with some westernised favourites, if you dont want hit they will happily make your food less spicy. Excellent value and very old world feel.. Lots of antique looking clocks 🤔
A Thai friend recommended this Thai restaurant in the busy Ninma Road. Setting gets nostalgic feel. Dishes are authentic. If you like to taste special tradition dish, try nam phrig, a mixture mainly made with dried shrimp paste. Service staff very nice.
Thai authentic restaurant is opposite of Nimman soi1.Decoration like Thai house and full of antique stuff such as clock or pictures. Food is good I would like to recommend you to try Roasted duck with red curry and Spicy pomelo salad.
Cozy Thai restaurant in the trendiest neighborhood of Chiang Mai. Wide selection of wines and champagnes. Family run, friendly staff and quick service. Ideal for a dinner for two after popping around the little shops in the area.
Just exactly what I want. Portions size are normal, wich is good for me, cause i like thai cusine and want to try more dishes at once.Very reasonable prices, ok service. For this location restaurant may look like tourist trap, this one is good and honest, many locals eats hereBon appetit!
Value for money, chill, clean, rustic. Amazing Khao Soi!
Restaurant has good location and great decor. Food is just OK and the portions are rather small.
A really nice restaurant. I ordered the green curry with brown rice and was not disappointed. They have a great menu selection and since I live nearby Ill definitely be going back to try out more of them.
Good food, slightly small portions for the price. Very friendly staff.
Affordable, and delicious. Recommend if youre in the area.
My friend and I were fortunate to be staying near this restaurant! We had the duck red curry, rice and pork spring rolls with a couple refreshing beverages. Everything was prepared quickly, and it was DELICIOUS! I would definitely give this place a visit if you havent already.
