1 Man Lam Rd, Sha Tin, Hong Kong, Sha Tin
Local museum with various displays about Hong Kong heritage, including opera, design & Bruce Lee.
An amazing and free museum charting the arts and crafts of this amazing region. The porcelain was beautiful as are the other early pieces. The interactive displays are different and fun once we were shown how to use them ( a big thank you there to the polite and friendly attendants). The manga and Bruce Lee exhibits were worth it for the trip alone. A great day out and worth the travel on the metro network.
Kids enjoyed it. Not the best museum I have ever visited
Came here to see the Dunhuang: Enchanting Tales for Millennium exhibition. It was wonderful seeing the visual replicas. I felt there could have been a more geographical based introduction to the exhibit as there was just an assumption you knew where these special caves were upon entry. They could have had a map pin pointing the world, China, the province and cave location. There was also a Cantonese Popular Culture exhibit that was really worth visiting as someone who has enjoyed Hong Kong action movies from the 1980s and 1990s.The building was clean, spacious, yet it felt rather old fashioned with everything segregated into separate halls with sparse hallways not exhibiting anything.
If you are not Chinese, nothing interesting unless the third floor as exclusive Bruce Lee Museum !
Loved the Bruce Lee part. Keep it going!
Very bad customer service and irresponsible from the counter. The counter staff even do not know the program of museum day of its own.
Visited the Dunhuang special exhibit, with the beautifully restored paintings and figures from the Yulin Cave.
This museum is worth to pay a visit, not only for the DunHuang exhibits, but also the Bruce Lee stories and Hong Kong 60s. Fans of 金庸 and 趙少昂 should visit their respective exhibition hall as well. An added treasure is the Childrens Discovery Gallery on ground floor, where kids can have hands on with the exhibits. Adults will also find it interesting at the heritage toys exhibition hall which brings back their childhood memories.
i went there for DunHuang - Enchanting tales for millennium, standard ticket $10 only, if you have museum pass, you can access for free.i followed a tour guide and she have very details illustrations on each sections. If the museum can show the tour guide schedule and organize more tour guide service then it would be great! HKD$10 is very inexperienced price and you can spend a whole afternoon there!excellent exhibition and i have a great time there! thank you LCSD, HKJC!
It is a free of charge entrance, but some exhibition may need extra tickets, on the day i arrived, i have visited bruce lee, and the chinaware
Awesome exhibition!
Worth to visit the Dunhuang exhibition, great experience to see most pieces from Mogao caves.
Great exhibition of Buddhist art in Dunhuang. Very impressive digital display of the murals. Learned how Buddhism came from India to China.
This is the (CultureHeritage Museum of HK. It has some permanent exhibition s like Cantonese Opera, HK pop music, film, radio and related peoples. Currently it also has a special show on “Dunhuang”, including some artifacts and (reproducedpaintings, mostly on the subject of Buddhism. It is not crowded and definitely worth the time to have a visit, particularly in this time of depression and uncertainty.
Great place to visit during the summer with the raging heat outdoors. Variety of exhibits inside for different interests.
It is a very very nice place for all HK peoples must visit there. We can review our local HK culture in half day at least
Great way to spend on a rainy day. What a variety of areas to explore. Best part for us was visiting the Bruce Lee area. Parking available right next to the museum and a short walk to Newtown Plaza.
Nice museum to spend half a day. It is also enjoyable to walk around the museum along the riverside promenade.
My visit after the last Pixar exhibition 3 years ago. Current exhibition is Tsar of all Russia. Well worth a visit. The Hong Kong Print Art Exhibition also interesting. I also enjoy the exhibition on HK movies 🎥 n TV Shows. The exhibits at the TT Tsui Gallery of Chinese Art are also good. Good spot to spend half a day. Especially if u have a museum pass 🤣👍🏻
想看巨星們如梅艷芳、張國榮和羅文的演唱會服裝嗎? Want to see the last costumes wore by our HK’s pop stars: Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung and Roman Law? and the astonishing and memorable HK films and vivid entertainment industrial history? Then, you should visit this exclusive exhibition and watch some video footages, document , posters, prize stands and related materials.Remarks: Photo-taking is NOT allowed inside the movie exhibition hall due to the copyright issues. Please ask the staffs before any actions. (in my view, the signage of “No photos” should enlarge its size)The museum occasionally cooperates with other museum abroad. They work with Russian Government recently and demonstrate the ritual belongings and military costumes of the Tsar. This kind of cooperatione is eye-opening and benefits all citizens.
Heritage museum with predominantly Chinese arts. The museum is famous for their exhibitions, at present an Russian Tsar exhibit with displays from the 16th to 18th century. Awesome gallery. Loved the Hong Kong print exhibition too. Great place to go solo or with families.
A very spacious and modern museum. Love the regularly updated new exhibitions.First, I visited the special exhibition: Tsar of All Russia. The treasures loaned from the Moscow Kremlin Museums, Russia are more in quantity, valuable and exquisite than I expected. Moreover the print art exhibition could not be missed either. The paintings were very colourful, interesting and informative. I learnt, in a video, that how print art is produced by different methods and the talented local artists who produced them.I wish I could come and visit the museum earlier in the morning because you are going to spend a good deal of time so as to visit all the galleries.A very nice experience.
One of the top museum in HK I would recommend, so much better than the one at TST. The only problem is that its in the middle of nowhere, not convenient for bus or mtr either. The good side of too inconvenience is that its always quite and less people, which people could just take many time they like to appreciate the art.So spacious, so many varieties and well displayed.
Today is Free of charge,so we just go inside and take a look, very nice and clear ,you can see all the things that preserve for a long time.😁👍
Really interesting museum with a large range of exhibits. Quite a few modern exhibits showing hong kong artists works.
Excellent Docent Tour offered by the Heritage Museum.Easier to reach the Heritage Museum through the Che Kung Temple MTR station along the Wu Kai Sha Line through Tai Wai MTR station.Permanent Exhibition on HK heritage like the section on Bruce Lee and special exhibits from overseas available like the one from the British museum on 100 objects through history with timeline.
The Heritage Museum is one of Hong Kongs best lesser known attractions. It is located just southwest of Shatin Park in Sha Tin and provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about Hong Kong as well as regional Chinese culture and heritage. Opening hours are 10am to 6/7pm depending on the day of the week. Permanent Exhibits are now free to visit. Here you will find a handful of permanent exhibits as well as changing temporary exhibitions spaced out over two floors of museum space. Galleries include precious artefacts and art, opera items and other interesting elements of local heritage and history. There is a childrens discovery gallery with various play zones, making for a good way to for the little ones to spend time at the Heritage Museum. There is a popular Bruce Lee temporary exhibition that has been running since 2013. It is scheduled to end next year in 2020. This is worth time to view if you are fan of the movie star and martial artist.Youll find an expected gift shop, cafe & clean bathrooms. The museum website is up to date with temporary exhibitions that are slated for the upcoming future. That is worth checking out prior to intended visits.Other interesting things to do nearby in Shatin include Shatin Park, The Racecourse (on race days), Che Kung and Man Fat Sze temples as well as the popular New Town Plaza shopping mall.
As a fan of Bruce lee, I was moved when I visited his exhibition. Just that made the visit worthwhile. The location is a bit away from the city but its a great place to get a piece of mind and a break from the busy city.
Not the most convenient of locations, but a trip out to the Heritage museum is well worth it. The exhibitions are well maintained and regularly updated, its spacious and the cafe is great. Loads to do and see for adults and children alike.
Went to the Heritage museum to check it out and to see the special exhibit on loan from the British museum. It was a great way of viewing the growth of mankind around the world through these 100 objects !
Absolutely amazing experience! Loved the Jin yong and Bruce lee exhibitions. Free admission as well
This is the second time I visited the Heritage Museum and it did not disappoint. I specifically spent a lot of time in the Bruce Lee Exhibit and it was very well done. It covers all aspect of Bruces life in a lot of details and it was fantastic. One section shows perspective of Bruce by his friends. That is also very nice to have. The museum also has other exhibits covering a wide range of things. I happened to see the Jin Yong Gallery on my way out. Did not spend too much time there but seems to be well done as well. One thing that may be useful to visitors is to have layout of the museum handy if people need/want it.
The Museum is free of charge and could not give a higher recommendation to give this attraction a visit. Very easy to follow out of Shatin Station and plenty of street signs leading to the building. There are multiple exhibits currently from very traditional Chinese to contemporary art. The Bruce Lee exhibition was definitely the highlight. The museum is very well kept, clean, and abundant of toilet facilities. Free guided tours are available and it was a shame that I didn’t look up the times beforehand for me to watch the Bruce Lee documentary that’s screening twice a day.
The best museum in HK and definitely must go. It hasa huge variety of exhibitions, from movie star Bruce Lee, to novelist Jin Yong whose traditional Wuxia novels are well know. There are also nice porcelains, and theme about HKs TV and broadcasting industry. One can easily spend a half day there.
An underrated free museum with multiple floors holding various exhibitions. The Bruce Lee exhibition in particular is incredibly moving and well-executed. There are many revolving historical and modern exhibitions as well, for example Claylaboration which showcases Hong Kongs creative ceramic talent, or (in the pastbrilliant Studio Ghibli and Pixar retrospectives. Theres also a large permanent collection on the historical heritage of the surrounding area and Chinese culture as a whole.Ive heard it a few times on the intercom and never been myself, but I believe therere also regular Cantonese Opera performances staged here.Theres also a childrens discovery centre downstairs (on toys and the ecosystemand a surprisingly excellent museum cafe with a loyale clientele of its own (students, expats, and old Chinese chess players).
Excellent place to spend a afternoon there. Do not miss the show Bruce Lee too!
Nice muesuem very quiet, does not seem to be that popular on a weekday atleast. Free entry exhibits are ok, worth checking out if you have a spare hour or two in Hong Kong.
Always a delight to go to HK Heritage Museum. A must see, really get the true essences of Hong Kong here. Always interesting and changing exhibits and majority of exhibits are FREE, is a good museum to bring children. Plenty of washrooms and seats near by. This museum is a MUST
Great museum that show cases Hong Kong history of all kinds whether it be ancient or modern. When I went in February I saw the Pixar exhibit, Bruce Lee exhibit and one promotional posters. This was on a Sunday afternoon so it wasnt too crowded and everything was well laid out for all the exhibits. A normal ticket only costs 20$ which grants you full access to the museum!
A large museum with different section with different topics that reveal HK & Chinese culture. Of course they do have special topic sometimes such as 30 Years of Animation of PIXAR. It is a good place to spend your weekend with your friends or families.
It was very nice.Just 20$ to enter and you can visit the Pixar and Bruce Lee exhibitions. The overall visit requires a couple of hours
Excellent museum with plenty of options and activities for the whole family. Favorite exhibits have been the Bruce Lee & Pixar collection. Have been here at least 8 times now with my ladies.
Its great to have special exhibitions from time to time. I have a chance to see Bruce Lees exhibition this time that is carefully designed by Mr Silver Cheung, an art director from the film industry, and having lots of personal stuff from Bruce Lee Action Museum from Seattle. Im actualizing myself daily to be an artist of life. I believe everyone would be inspired from his philsophy by looking at his personal notes, walking through the gallery. Besides, there is a Pixar animation exhibition at the same time. Its good for kids to go!
Worth to visit by visitors and local alike. Look at different exhibits from Chinese relics, opera and novels, to Bruce Lee and complementary art. Most exhibitions are free. Note: Bruce Lee is scheduled to end in mid 2018
We just went to the Pixar exhibition which is on till early March. Really a great showcasing of Pixars work in the past thirty years. There video transcripts and making of different animation was fascinating to watch. I personally enjoyed Monster U, Finding Nemo, Inside Out a lot. You can spend a good 60-90 mins there. The Bruce Lee exhibition is still a good visit if you have extra time.
Great exhibition in Bruce Lee that I think will be there until July 2018. Also one on Pixar celebrating their 30 year anniversary. Best part is its free (except for the travelling exhibitions which are about $20 HKD. Theres a cafe in the first floor that has excellent food, as well as exhibit in spited gifts at the gift shop. Lots to do in the surrounding area as its adjacent to a large park and close to the 10k Buddha statue temple.
Entrance was free and featured an exhibit on Bruce Lee. It chronicled his life beautifully. There were several permanent displays there as well.Lots of space and friendly staff.Oh, the gift shop had some cool Bruce Lee memorabilia.Loved this museum.
Free admission. Went to see the Bruce Lee exhibit. Very elaborate display of selected events in history. A must-visit if youre interested in learning about the history of Hong Kong. Note that in most exhibits, taking photos is not permitted.
Easy access from the MTR with well placed signs leading you there. The Louvre exhibit and the Bruce Lee exhibit were both informative and put together. Museum cafe downstairs also good for a snack and drink - they also serve entrees. The museum pass ($100 HKDis worth it for a family as it allows entrance into a bunch of HKs museums for a year.
There are some interesting exhibits, but really cant spend more than an hour or 2 here, and not sure if I want to come more than once or twice...
