Homestyle Hawaiian Pub & Eatery - Hawaiian restaurant in San Diego, United States
Decent parking for a great lunch spot. Seating and service is good and the food is really good. The chicken teriyaki is a good classic and so is the shrimp scampi. I’d love to come back for some beer and a game.
Well what can we say about this place but my wife n I eat there or take home once maybe twice a month!! Try it youll like it if not love it like we do!
Ordered chicken Katsu with macaroni, rice and salad. It is delicious. Also ordered fried fish tempura, macaroni, rice and salad. Sooo much food, it was hard to close the box!!! You have to eat at least a small plate, before closing the take out box. Friendly staff.
Great spot, cool atmosphere, staff was friendly and food was ono. Def gotta go get the fried musabi, its 🔥🔥🔥
Let me tell how Ive been turned down on this place - TWICE!Ive actually never eaten here, my bf took me here because he said that the food was good, and he wanted me to try it.ANYWAYS, HERES WHAT HAPPENED.We arrived at approximately 7:15pm, the place closes at 8 (were aware of that). 3 staffs at the bar, seems like they were cleaning. One yelled out, "Hello," but nobody came to attend us. There were two tables with customers, but they looked like there were finished with their meals. We didnt get greeted until 5 minutes later. We wanted to dine in, then the server said, exactly, "We cant do dine in anymore, WE RUN OUT OF PLATES, if you like you can do take out." I dont know what the heck that means? Can someone explain that to me please..First time was almost similar.. Came in at 730p, some server says, "Our kitchen is closed?" There was couple was ahead of us. Same ordeal.Deleting this place off my list.Im gonna go to L&L Hawaiian Bbq.. Ciao!
Glad a new place is in the neighborhood well in Tierra Santa actually close by hopskip and a jump from Allied Gardens... Cant wait to visit again
Update: The owner, Ansel did reach out to me via text and banned my family & I from their restaurants, which is unfortunate but no big deal since we no longer wish to patronage a business that treats customers this way. Out of curiosity, I scrolled down below to read their other customer reviews, especially the catering related ones & noticed that I wasn’t the only one who had bad catering experiences w/ them. They also had issues w/ Aimee too. Had I been aware of their catering service shortcomings, I would’ve never hired them in the first place, let alone twice. So besides being banned, Ansel had the audacity to blame me for not confirming our order. Instead of accountability, he shifted blame. Wow! My 1st “confirmation” was made when the order was placed & deposit was paid. My 2nd “confirmation” was made 1 month prior to our event when the balance was paid in full. At that point, I fulfilled the end of the agreement. Then it was on them to fulfill their end by delivering our catering order on the date & time agreed upon. Our DJ, photographer & photo booth crew all promptly showed up as expected on the day of the event as agreed upon…except for Homestyle Hawaiian. Such a BIG disappointment! While they did show up w/ food 2 hours later, our order was incomplete. While they gave us extra food, which we didn’t need/want, we preferred those missing items from our order. And while I did get some money back, it didn’t account for the additional money & time we spent to go out & buy food to hold our guests over until our dinner & appetizers arrived. Nor does it take away the stress & humiliation of that day. I don’t wish that on anyone, which is my main purpose for my review.*** While Ive enjoyed their food & the service Ive received over the years at their various locations, I HATE their catering service. Theyve disappointed me twice; the 1st time was for our wedding reception 3 yrs ago & recently for my moms 80th bday party. They were almost 2 hrs late for our reception. In spite of this, I wanted to give them a chance & use them again for the bday party bc we like their food. When placing our order for the bday party w/ Aimee, I suggested an earlier delivery time but she guaranteed theyd arrive a 1/2 hr before our party started...but that never happened. Aimee never responded to any of my attempts to contact her that day. In fact, it was her husband, Ansel who reached out after I tried calling for Aimee at the store. Ansel said that he couldnt find our order even though I provided him w/ my paid invoice number. He was very apologetic, said he would see what he could do & kept me posted. In the meantime, we rushed out & spent almost $300 for appetizers to feed our guests. Our food was delivered over 2 1/2 hrs late! They never set-up the food like we paid for bc it was so late already & we brought everything inside ourselves. We were missing certain items & received extra quantities of food we didnt need. We were more interested in feeding our guests than worrying about any of that for now.I waited a few days to calm down before I reached out to Ansel again. I express my dissatisfaction with how things went down & my disappointment w/ Aimee for never returning my calls, following-up or owning up to anything. Ansel apologized & proposed a refund amount, which we felt was inadequate but we reluctantly accepted since it appeared to be his best/final offer & we wanted to move on. It was almost a month before we received our refund bc Aimee forgot to mail our check. No surprise there - late as usual & no apologies from Aimee!Ill still go back to Homestyle Hawaiian for in-store dining...eventually. But never again will I ever hire them for catering after being burned twice. And as nice as Aimee was over the phone, she failed to deliver as promised, hid & left her husband, Ansel to deal with the fiasco. Thanks Ansel! Shame on you, Aimee! And shame on me for trusting you twice!
Newer management finally got the Dole whip machine working for a little while and now not working again. Its broken more than not but I keep going back hoping that its fixed and for the kolbi beef rib combo and Teri salmon combo. The fried stuff isnt that good in my opinion. The lumpia appetizer is good too. I usually call for take out and they typically get it right and on time. Lots of good beers on tap too.
I liked the poke and poke nachos here
This place is so good, I went there for lunch and dinner! Teri Salmon is so delicious (no pictured), and the noodle bowl was also very well done!
The menu at the shop doesnt have prices on it so we have to use the app to see the prices in the shop. Unbelievable... Means prices changed so often that they dont want have a printed menu???
The malasadas taste like they were fried in fish grease
Delicious food and large portions. Great staff too!
Great Hawaiian food. Love the teriyaki chicken!!! Staff is always friendly. And the restaurant is always clean.
I freaking love this place....I try to come as much as I can before work....Their lemonade are to die for especially the peach 1.....Mhmmmm.....I just wish they stay open longer....bc when I do get off of work I be starving nand look theyre not open....Either way....this place is freaking Awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very disappointed with my experience here. We arrived and the waitress sat us at a table then we waited TWENTY minutes with no acknowledgement from the staff. No Im sorry well be right with you, no water, nothing. But while we were waiting everyone else was getting acknowledged. They were asked how their food was, the party that was seated right before us had their drinks and the waitress went over to their table a few times while we just sat and waited. Finally I got tired of waiting and said excuse me to the waitress and informed her that no one has stopped by our table and we havent placed a drink order and get reply was... Oh, what do you want with an attitude. My husband and I looked at each other and told her we were leaving. Unbelievable, we will not be returning and will not be recommending this restaurant. Im still reeling. I cant help but feel a certain way about this when we were the only two Hispanic looking people in there. I hope upper management sees this because its unreal. I understand many places are understaffed but not even an well be with you shortly, such an unpleasant experience.
Food is great, staff is great, decent beer selection. 2 item plate is big, beware. Lava chicken is our favorite
Had lunch here today. Excellent food and service. Waitress recommended the chicken, pulled pork and beef rib combo. Good call! Have had the lemon and capers mahi here too. Also excellent.
Pork was some of the best Ive ever had, soft, juicy, and packed with flavor. The rice and macaroni salad that comes with it are also very good. My wife had the Lava Chicken, which was very good, and she also enjoyed the kalbi. Beer selection is great, with several lagers and IPAs available. Prices are not displayed on the physical menus, but are available if you scan the QR code. The malasadas are why we came, and we were not disappointed. We received an entire plate full of malasadas, and they were outstanding. There were 10 on our plate, about the size of lemons. Very light, just a bit crispy, and with a good amount of sugar, not over the top.Service was very fast, we received our meals in less than 10 minutes, but we also showed up very early on a Saturday evening, so your mileage may vary. Portions were generous and even, I hadnt eaten all day and was not able to finish my plate (Im 155 with an average appetite). The ambience was very chill, almost coffeehouse like.
The food was amazing! We ordered the two item options (kalua pig, Teri beef, Teri chicken, and kalbi)and the malasadas. The proportions were plentiful, which were about how it was back on Oahu. The kalua pork was smoky and savy. The Teri, if you dont know, its short for teriyaki, was sweet, grilled, and just a treat. The Mac salad, on point, not up to par with the island but still, using the ingredients you can get to duplicate the same is a challenge, that they do well. My son took care of most of the malasadas like it was his job, fortunately I was able to eat one, amazing! I had Leonards only but these were satisfying, want to go back and try other options!
Great food with huge portions. Reminded me of being on the island. Staff was friendly.
Came here with friends who live nearby and I was so delighted we came! The food was delicious and the portion size will allow you to have lunch for another day. The service was quick and polite.
Our waitress was Mariana. She was so kind and helpful. The food was so delicious. Definitely worth checking out. We will be back for sure!
Great Hawaiian food, friendly service, good prices! The Big Bruddah was a great starting dish for our first time. Cant wait to come back again!
Only giving them 4 stars since they definitely need online ordering or more than 1 phone line. This means you’ll probably get a busy signal during peak hours, enough to make you give up and get food elsewhere.Food wise, their spam musubi is excellent and I love their plate lunches, especially the Teri Beef and the Korean Chicken.
We are visiting from Oklahoma, and my dad brought us here to eat. We had never been, but it looks like we will need to add it to our regular rotation when visiting San Diego. The server was extremely accommodating, setting our party up with a nice, large table in the corner. We had called ahead to reserve, and she’d even set up the high chair for our toddler. We got the lumpia and the sweet potato fries as appetizers. Both solid. I ordered the Big Brattah (?Combo which featured three of their best-sellers. All of it was great. Giant portions. I really enjoyed the Lava Chicken, and the beef Kalbi was a close second. Everyone else enjoyed their selections as well. Prices are very fair especially considering the large portions.
Delicious. My favorite Hawaiian restaurant hands down
This is the ideal place for you if you are looking for the best food at a really affordable price. The restaurant is situated along a road that is conveniently accessible to everyone. Their equipment and utensils are all well-maintained. This is a good place for grilled seafood, particularly with a parking space and a fresh atmosphere for large groups. Highly advised!
Very good food. Kalua Pork, Teriyaki Beef, Korean Chicken were tasty. We also ordered the Lumpia it was great. The portions were large, the service quick and reasonable prices. We split a two entre order it was enough for two. The Loco Moco was SUPER LARGE. Great mac salad, tasty rice. Meat was a little salty for me, but good.
From ordering over the phone to picking up, the service was really good, nice and friendly! Try the kalua wontons, theyre delicious!!The food was amazing, we had the Kalua pig and katsu chicken. Let me tell you definitely get your moneys worth with portions, had leftovers! The mac salad was creamy and delicious.. We picked it up for take out and the food was still hot and crunchy when we got home. Will definitely go again!
This place is phenomenal! We got the plates with macaroni salad & rice and the portions are huge! Their BBQ sauce tastes amazing and all the food was delicious! We also got flavored lemonade in mango and passion fruit which was so refreshing, not too sweet and not too tart! 10/10 recommend you try this place!
Very friendly staff. Food was ok. Great portions!!!! Chicken and rice was good. One thing, I love lemonade and theirs tasted just like water, so unfortunately that ruined it for me. I would go back, but I will be in the mood for actual water or really have fun with some Sprite. Lol. Thinking I was going to get AWESOME lemonade and being let down sux. :(
Fabulous huge portions. Chicken and pork dishes are outstanding. Fried Zucchini is the best I have had. Its a small store front that didnt look great to me but the food is excellent and reasonably priced.
Yummm lots of beer and killer food , nice staff, drove 25 miles , will be back
Food was excellent and they had many items you dont see on the mainland. The helpings are Hawaiian size for sure! The malasadas were delicious and they even have Dole soft serve. Highly recommended!
The food is incredible and in very large portions (as traditional Hawaiian dishes are). I went with a family of 4 and our bill was just over $50, which included 4 full meals (which we ALL had to take home half ofand 2 appetizers. Great price for how much food you get! The wait staff was very fun and casual and the atmosphere is great for a big family or even individual dine-in. Our food came out fast but I should note that we were one of only 2 parties in the restaurant (5pm on a Wednesday). They also have pick-up/take-out available. Ill definitely be back there soon!
We popped in for a quick business lunch and spent more of our time enjoying the delicious kalua pulled pork that talking business. Our wait staff were amazingly attentive and kept our sofas full. Definitely a great eatery. Reminds me of eating in Hawaii!
This place is amazing. I love great food. The portions are large and the prices are unreal. You really get your moneys worth when you come to this restaurant. The service is top notch. I would go to this place daily but I live to far away. Im in SD during the work week so my co-workers and I come to this place on Fridays when we can. Everything on the menu is good. If you have an appetite for great food this is your place. Next time I go, Ill take a few pictures and post them so you can see the awesome meals this place prepares. I will be coming back. You have a customer for life. This place, to me, is a place where people can come and get away. Great for family and friends to just relax and chill. I have always believed that great food is made with patients and love. If you want to feel right at home this is the place. Keep up the great work 👍. Peace.
The food is great and the place is clean.
Great little restaurant not to far from Mission Trails. Come eat then go on a hike! The staff did a wonderful job and was very nice along with being helpful with ordering. The food quality was high, but the price is low. The most costly part was the small beer. The beer selection was quite large. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and clean.
Food here was awesome. Ordered the chicken katsu plate, lava style (covered in a light sauce)... it was delicious! My friends kalua pork looked just as good. Generous portions. This is a Hawaiian spot on island time. Can get busy during lunch, so if you are looking for a quick bite during peak hours beware. Servers are very friendly and helpful. Once our order was in the food came out quickly.Highly recommend. I will definitely be back and will be bringing the hubby... they had craft beers on tap!
Always has delicious food. Super friendly staff. Definitely makes me feel like Im back in hawaii
Wait times were long. The food was bland, not worth the money and not even worth eating. Burger was overcooked and underseasoned, french fries were okay (nothing worth mentioning). Stir fry dish was flavorless and the noodles were overcooked (squishy). We are very easy-going people, not complainers. This food was so under part I felt it was worth taking the time to review. Maybe we caught the chef on a bad day, maybe the items we ordered arent their best, I really dont know. But I do know that we wont be returning to the restaurant. :(
Its my first time to visit this Hawaiian restaurant. We loved the foods! Superb! Thank you for my brother in law for the pre birthday lunch😊😍 Thanks for the treat! Happy Tummy!👍😊😋
Of all the places featuring Hawaiian cuisine this place gets it mostly right! This is Da Hawaiian served Thursday through Sunday. The flavors are excellent. The Lau Lau not too salty, but mine didnt have butterfish in it. Not to worry though, it is made in house and delectable. Lomi salmon was super salty (perfect for eating with rice). The chicken long rice was flavorful with some chicken (hey, it isnt family style, but very tasty!!!). The Mac salad pure and simple (the way it should be!).Plain and simple. Simply wonderful. The best of the chain! Beers on tap (for those interestedand deep fried musubi! Will have to return to further explain the menu but something tells me I will not be disappointed. This is a hidden gem! Cant wait to return!!!
I had a friend take me here a few months ago, I had never heard of it but it was awesome! Really cool layout inside, staff is all very nice. Big portions of food too, and they have draft beers on tap which is great. Easy location to get to in Tierrasanta.I got the Katsu chicken lunch plate one time and could barely finish half, then the other time I got a chicken noodle dish and I think it took me a day to get through. But the food was really good. If youre in the area definitely check it out.
Great service. Jason, our bartender and server was so nice and amazing. The food is also delicious. Love this place.
Great food, great service, mostly great food. The poke was a little chewy for my tastes, but everything else was great and their handling of our horrid bill splitting was amazing. Highly recommend!
For a sit down Hawaiian restaurant I expected the food to be a little more savory, but maybe thats just the reality of fried chicken plates. Korean chicken was still good, though.
Food is great and the service is attentive and very courteous. Amazing Hawaiian food in a laid back atmosphere. Would be a 5 star but dang the beer is expensive here...!
