Locally sourced & updated American specialties in artsy but unpretentious surrounds, plus a patio.
That was the best dang Po’Boy I’ve ever had. Sadly though, my mom’s food wasn’t as great as mine. Fries tasted a day old. Overall, I’d go back just for the Po’Boy!
We visit here nearly every time we visit Asheville, as my son has ranked their chicken sandwich as pretty much the best one hes ever tried..and thats a lot of chicken sandwiches!! I really enjoy their veggie, hummus, pita appetizer as well! Lovely staff too...every time!
What a welcome surprise. The food is excellent, the staff are pleasant and the atmosphere relaxing. The prices are reasonable.
Great grilled and fried chicken options plus lots more. Little house with side porch. Food was really good and atmosphere was nice. Order at center and dine in one of the rooms. To go options too.
This place is AMAZING!! If youre on the fence about trying this little gem, dont be! Its nothing short of perfection! The food is brimming with originality and flavor!! The Cuban is out of this world! You wont be disappointed!! I cant wait to go back. The menu is large. The prices are unbelievably reasonable. The staff is wonderful!
Delicious as always! Love that there are always so many delicious and fresh vegetarian options.
Love the food and how fresh it is. I got the chicken salad wrap and the peachy apple crisp. Loved it and will be back!
Exceptional food and service in a relaxing atmosphere! Ordered the pulled pork, NC fired chicken, collards, fries, and kale salad... each bite better than the last. Left on cloud 9. Will definitely be back.
The fish and chips, chicken biscuit with gravy, hummus, and the pasta were delicious! Though we could have used more of the wonderful gravy. The servers were quick and professional. The only problem was that we all were coughing because of the smoke in the building from the kitchen. Almost everyone we saw who came into the building coughed within seconds of entering.
Had the smoked tacos, with corn tortillas, they had double wrapped them so I didnt make a mess and they tasted so so good, will definitely be going back. The person taking orders was also really helpful.
Have come here three times now and loved each time. The staff are friendly, the food has been consistently delicious and the atmosphere is comfortable and warm. Will be back on a regular basis.
We got HomeGrown catered for a brunch after our wedding and it was great! The staff the set up was awesome and even accommodated us having to move things around. They had everything ready to go and hot when it started and the food was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend the orange cinnamon rolls-so good!
Surprised as how bad my "meal" was despite the positive reviews. Got the recommended trout and it was hilariously tiny. Literally 5 bites. Just a single fillet alone on a plate. None of our plates were anything but mediocre/2 star (fish tacos were well browned but the tortillas werent even warm and while well blackened... Sort of tasted like generic McCormicks curry powder seasoning wise (weird). Mine was just sad to the point of being comical though.
Wow! Came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Quaint and cozy, but with a specific attitude about the place. Had fish and chips and the fish was so fresh and flaky! Got ready to cut it and my form just glided through. Great place.
If you are local you are lucky.Stopped in and split a kale caesar salad, trout with curried okra and their veggie bowl.Fast service, friendly staff, food was great. We’d be regulars.
Excellent "hole in the wall" food spot. Big menu does NOT mean medicore food here. Lots of options for every craving and dietary restriction and meat or meat product preference.
100% would recommend!!!The building inside and out is a beautiful, farm house type vibe. It just felt homey, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. The staff was so very nice and the service was amazing and fast!Don’t even get me started on how good the food was. It seriously was fantastic both me and my mom were in shock. I got the bbq tofu sandwich with a side of fries and she got the buttermilk fried chicken with a side of Caribbean jerk squash and stewed zucchini with tomatoes. So delicious!! 5 stars from us!
Id read an earlier review that mentioned this being a quirky place and they were spot on as it certainly has its quirks in a fun way.The open faced chicken biscuit with sausage gravy is absolutely delicious 👍* Ill be back for the redneck pot pie based on the recommendation of others dining at a nearby table.
This place is incredible. I travel all around the country for work and generally dont go to chain restaurants. Ive only been to one other restaurant that gave me this great of a first impression. The atmosphere is comfortable and accepting, the service is warm and excited, the food is prepared with great seasonal ingredients, and prepared excellently. Im only in town for four days, and despite all of the awesome looking restaurants in the area to try Im going to be spending at least one more of my meals here during my visit. We got the asparagus, street corn, catfish po boy, chicken and biscuits and their unsweetened tea.
It looks inconspicuous from the road, but it has a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, soup, tacos, and more. Perfect for groups for lunch or dinner and after my 5th visit everything Ive had has been well done.
Nothing was really out of this world, but the food was absolutely solid. This is one of my favorite neighborhood places to go get lunch when Im back home. The pimento chicken sandwich was awesome, tender and juicy meat!
Ate here on a trip to Asheville. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. Highly recommend the chicken sandwich.
Hipster vibe. Interesting choices. Unfortunately they were sold out of some of the things I wanted to order. Got blackened trout and tomato salad with cheese grits. My guy got a blackberry salad, with a side of beets. All was tasty. Limeade was a bit stringent, had to water it down a bit.
Homegrown is a gem of a restaurant! After eating the fried chicken and potatoes with gravy I had to go to confessional ... Its that sinfully good. Seriously the the redneck pot pie, catfish sandwich, hamburgers and the rest of the menu are all crafted with care. Order ahead for a speedy pickup. But the outside dining is great. Top-notch incredible food.
GREAT experience! Immediately felt welcomed and I really appreciated the manager walking me through the menu on my first time. I can genuinely tell these folks take pride in their restaurant and their work! Will definitely be coming back! Oh, and great food ☺️
Driving home psst Ashville we were so lucky to find this wonderful eatery! I had the grilled buttermilk chicken which was incredibly satisfying, with a side of grits that was heavenly! My wife wife and son each had the sautéed veggie plate and both thought the food was exceptional. Our youngest enjoyed his burger which he said was the best he had on the entire trip! A quaint, welcoming interior with friendly people, I can only hope we will be back someday!
No exaggerationBest southern meal iv had in my life up until this date. Just walked out and had to post something about.Got a simple fried chicken with mushroom gravy and 2 sides. It was all incredible that i said im gonns round 2.Immediately got another plate, this time the fried chicken with sausage gravy ontop of a biscuit. Also got a blood orange and craisin brownie that worked perfectly. If you have time to stop in for a bite. Dont hesitate. Really this was beyond expectations.I will be back
Best place to eat in Asheville! Super cute, and food was amazing! everyone was super friendly! if you’re on the fence about eating here, do it. you will not regret it! It had beautiful art inside, as well as some of the most amazing food I’ve had in a very long time. and it’s farm to table! 10/10
Loved this place. The side of squash and peppers I wasnt thrilled with but the tofu sandwich was really good. Not very BBQ tasting as named which is why I wont give 5 stars but tasted good and was hot and fresh. Cool space. Limited parking tho.
Very quick! Food was amazing. The fried chicken was so tender.
Excellent food, friendly service and eclectic vibe.Dont let the buildings exterior fool you. The food is artisan and crafted with TLC. Looking forward to future visits to this culinary destination.
Always a nice lunch. The veggies are Uber delicious. Locally sourced ingredients. Menu items like redneck pot pie which is superb. Chicken biscuits with gravy is another fav.
Really yummy, with great staff! Weve been away, and had some disappointments culinary-wise. This was the best food we had all weekend, and that is damning with faint praise. I had meatloaf and mashed potatoes with homemade mushroom gravy. Hubby had a burger and hand-cut French fries. Everything was perfectly prepared comfort food. We found it by lucky accident, and will go back when we go through the area again.
HomeGrown is an Asheville staple for when I have guests visit. The food is super tasty, the prices are fair, it has a relaxed atmosphere, its on the same street as a bunch of ice cream shops, and their dishes are always in season. Im glad they survived the COVID lockdown; if they closed, I might have moved! If youre visiting from out of town, swing by here, you wont regret it!
This small restaurant is very unique. The menu was different and mostly comfort food…which I love. The food was super tasty. There were many artwork on display for purchase. Our kids really enjoy walking around to look at the different beautiful art pieces. We will definitely be back!
Everything was excellent. There was a line to order at 2:30, but we barely made our decision from the extensive chalkboard menu before it was our turn. Efficient and clean and a great staff!
This is a wonderful farm to table restaurant with very reasonable prices. I hade the grilled chicken with mushroom gravy and steamed sesame kale. Perfect portions for lunch! The grilled chicken really had that charcoal grilled flavor. So glad I tried it out!
Service was excellent They make very good use of their small space, seemingly tucking people away in a variety of places. Our food was excellent
We visit Asheville every summer and a highlight is eating at Homegrown! It is conveniently located near our son’s house in North Asheville. It has a very friendly ambiance, sort of like dining at a friend’s home - you order at the counter and then take a number to a table in the expansive yet cozy, homelike surroundings. Locally sourced dishes offer an eclectic variety sure to please everyone from vegan to meat-lovers. Great selection of local beers too. Today was a rainy day and I ordered a Farmer’s Salad with chicken and it was just perfect, but I have never had a bad meal there. Staff is very friendly too. I also like their sister location down by the river. This is just a great place to get a healthy meal in friendly surroundings!
Food was amazing! Really diverse menu and friendly staff. It is a n order at the window and they bring you your food. From the outside it doesnt look like much but cozy atmosphere on the inside. Parking can be a little tricky but they have some parking in the back.
Ever been so impressed by a place that you leave the review while you’re still eating?Seriously tho- amazing, friendly service. Healthy, fresh food! Perfect portions & prices! We can’t wait to order from here again!!Other notes: the patio is open, adorable and shaded with ice water available. They use all compostable items for to-go packaging. You must try this great local option!
Service was a little slow as we waited in line for Sunday morning brunch it was worth the wait! Fantastic Appalachian cuisine including breakfast served all day. We loved everything we ordered and will definitely be back!
I got the catfish plate and the collard greens with bacon. It was incredible. The catfish had the best breading and was fried very well. The collard greens tasted so good as well. Then finished up with apple crisp with ice cream. Amazing food.
We stopped in on our last morning in Asheville. We loved the homey feeling. The food was good to. Oh and they had real coffee cups!
1/24/2020- wow A small little mom and pop place. They had some vegan dishes that’s the reason why we stopped in one of our travel companion is vegan.Their menus are on all on chalkboards breakfast ,lunch , sides, drinks too.The young fella behind the register was really very nice and very informative you do at the you do order at the register. They to bring your order to the table the little place food was exceptional my step son and I had the chicken pot pie, they have sweet, tea raspberry tea and unsweet and sweet tea.G had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes that looked wonderful and our vegan had a salad that was out of this world. He let us a try I can’t tell you what it was but it looked and tasted wonderful it was flavors that we couldn’t recognize but it was delicious all good qualities deafly a cute little place to stop at.
Outdoors seating (plus indoorand simple (but not basicfood. Friendly service, and the hash I ordered was absolutely perfect, eggs cooked exactly to order. My mimosa was damn tasty, and did I mention they have A HOT SAUCE BAR? They have takeout as well. Wish I lived close enough to order all the time. Looking forward to trying the lunch menu!
What a cute little place! Staff wasnt overly friendly, but the place seems to have a constant flow of patrons. Food was amazing! Pretty sure the line to order the food took longer than actually waiting to be served the food. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend.
Delicious, delicious, delicious, and inexpensive. The staff was also very kind and this visit was just what I needed after a rough week. The buttermilk chicken was so good and so were the carbs I loaded up on that day. DO get the brownie topped with ice cream. You wont regret it at all.
Great little cafe serving up some delicious twists on Southern comfort food. The restaurant is set in an old house so its a little choppy because of how the house was divided into rooms but a cool vibe nonetheless. There is a large board by the register that has all the menu options and beverages. You get at the register, pick up your order marker, get your beverages then pick out a table either inside or outside and wait for your delicious food. Decent portion sizes and fast service. Parking in front and in a lot behind the building, but theres not a lot of parking.
Nice place for lunch! Very casual and good food. Fried chicken was great as it was skinless and not full of grease; but tasty! Cheesy grits = yum! Other than salads, there was one vegan option that was liked a lot as well.
