Self-guided tours at an outdoor Holocaust museum with a memorial wall & a huge human hand sculpture.
This is one of my favorite places to remember and remind me, what happens when you turn your back, and ignore the warning the call they made began for help, was to late to safe this poor soulI feel guilty for my ancestors not doing enough . Shalom
Incredible experience. Took the time to read the walls and learned so much. Beautiful sculptures and memorial.
Well worth a visit. A must for folk who have an interest in history. Sad to read but a truly tranquil setting.
Story so sad, so interesting.Must remember for ever
It was grim and inspiring at the same time.
So powerful and moving...intense and surreal to see all people depicted in the statue and the names on all the walls.
The Holocaust is a piece of history I enjoy learning more and more about. Its a very horrific piece of history indeed but hearing and seeing what these people went through must be shared with many generations to come. Its a small memorial but it was lovely nonetheless. If youre in Miami Beach this is a must see!
Great place to visit but inappropriate for young kids. My kid got emotional. So took her away from the place. You will get to learn about the holocaust history. The statue is magnificent. Its a great place to take pictures and the sculpture is huge. Walking down the corridors looking at the statues could make you emotional. The memorial is free to visit. It is a somber place, great and a historic landmark. The Miami botanical garden is also next to this place. It is just five minutes walk. There is parking available for the holocaust memorial and the botanical garden round the corner. The memorial was worth the visit. Its educational.
You will get to know the holocaust history in brief.
This is definitely a place to visit. Go through the tunnel and into the area the arm to the hand is located. Such a humbling memorial to walk through.
Im very sorry for my last post. Life has been very hard. I wish I had more support from my own people. Im different and it seems hard for them to accept me. The memorial is very touching. Its so sad how my people were treated. Change was needed then. Change is needed now. Im in need of help. Please reach out.
What a strong, punch on the face message this place sendsReally one of the most impactful memorials Ive beenThe hand sculpture its so deep and strong I have no words to describe it
Really great place, but be aware that there are pictures that can be graphic and inappropriate for young children due to naked people, and mounts of bodies. Otherwise it was heart wrenching, and very informational. The hand statue is really magnificent and a wonder to look at.
this memorial is striking in the heart. there you feel the incredible pain of those events. very nice and quiet park with a magnificent pond. being there, you immediately understand that you are lucky to live and be free. sculptures, photographs and an endless number of victim names make you numb with the horror of the Holocaust ...
This was a stop on our segway tour. It was one of the best holocaust memorials I have yet to see. Well worth the visit!
Truly amazing memorial. Attended an event here on National Holocaust Remembrance Day and was in awe of the detail of this memorial. Great educational location to ensure we never forget.
Great place for taking photos. The sculpture is amazing. In 1984, a small group of Holocaust survivors joined together to develop a permanent memorial in Miami to the six million Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis. A year later, the Holocaust Memorial Committee was formally established as a private non-profit organization. The committee decided that Miami Beach was the perfect location for such a memorial, as South Florida has one of the highest populations of Holocaust survivors in the United States, with many of them residing within the city limits.
A little disappointed in the condition of the memorial. Lots of broken tiles, broken gates, garbage everywhere, pond scum and overgrowth in the moat. Despite all that, the memorial itself was beautifully designed, and utterly heartbreaking. A stark reminder to value human life at all costs.
Self guided tours at an outdoor Holocaust museum with a memorial wall & huge human hand sculpture.Very somber place for reflection and remembrance of those that were lost and experienced an unforgettable Atrocity that occurred in the Holocaust.
An emotional experience, panels literally walk you through the hardships of the Holocaust with heartbreaking imagery with brutal descriptions. We must be taken aback by the extent of cruelty and mistreatment (it is described that death was cheered for), and while it’s hard to understand how people can be so hateful, seeing this memorial in the present times (2020 for meis a wake-up call for how easily humanity can be manipulated into hatred. There is little here about the Nazi’s themselves, but this memorial is not for them. It is the victims we must cherish not because so many of them suffered to death (including one example of a man who opted for death by electric fence to escape the dreadful gas chambers), but because they lived. Real people were incinerated. Real children were taken from their families and killed. Millions of people. The memorial is a beautiful piece of art. A free exhibit, too, worth seeing to reflect on the event alone...I couldn’t help but take photos of the reflections I found.
Absolutely stunning memorial. A must see in Miami. The statues are very life like and tragic which gives a view of the horrific events that occurred in the Holocaust that we cannot forget. A very somber place for reflection and remembrance of those that were lost.
It was short and sweet. Theres never enough solemn reminders of this atrocity. The sculptures were breathtaking and synopsis affixed to the granite panels a haunting reminder. Taking the free trolley from SoBe was a breeze. It was so worth the trip and the volunteer expertise in the info area are fabulous.
Went at night and my wife and I were the only ones there. Very somber, eye opening, yet peaceful with the rain and lack of crowds. Really lets what happened sink in. The stark contrast to the glitz and glamor of Miami Beach is sure to make some uncomfortable, but we all need to be challenged emotionally and intellectually, even when on vacation. Places like this help us all appreciate our own lives and experiences while ensuring we never forget the horrors others were forced to endure.
This memorial is thought-provoking. The vile deeds must never be forgotten. Around "the hand" are information boards on which the facts can be read in peace. The memorial is not very crowded but very well maintained. There are enough parking lots right around the corner.
Its a lovely memorial. The statues there are emotion evoking. And once your done you can go to the Miami botanical garden and/or the bass which are both about a 5 minute walk away.
This memorial is worth checking out because of the emotionally driven artistry it invokes while seeing it up close and allows you to take a moment to reflect on humanity. Although it can be quite somber, it helps put things into perspective and is a reminder of history, which is important to have. What makes this structure even more special is that it was established by Holocaust survivors in the South Florida area.Visiting the memorial is free and there is also a self-guided tour brochure available ($2 suggested donationthatll take about an hour to go through. If you happen to have a larger group (10 or more), you can make a reservation before visiting the memorial on their website 2 weeks in advanced.
I visited that museum one month ago,, wow there is a strong energy there.. I learned more about the Holocaust .. definitely if you want to know Miami Beach you need go there .. not free parking (not expensive... not a/c, so if you can bring some insects spray repellent with you .. also there is a really nice woman inside the office she will give you some papers with extra information about to the museum, or Jews history.. enjoy it ✌️✌️✌️More information about Miami concerts and places, My instagram ➡️ @javierespinozabass
Beautiful and so moving! A really gorgeous memorial, and was absolutely empty when I went.
Coming from Germany, I‘m very familiar with Holocaust history. Having visited numerous concentration camps, this monument still gives me goosebumps. You enter the heart of the monument through a circle. Although the space is limited, it very good recreates the atmosphere of the termination camps in Eastern Europe.
I have been to many holocaust memorials and museum and so on. Who would say that I would experience one of the most moving memorials in Miami? It is disturbing as it should and the sculpture work is exquisite. Definitely recommend checking it out!
The main sculpture is impressive and actually a little disturbing when youre close up. The events that occurred are well summarised. Everyone know s what happened but the memorial also explains a little about the political context and how it was allowed to happen by other nations. Really interesting.
Very neat place! The sculptures were amazing and presented an eery-like atmosphere by how realistic they were. Its rather small, but I enjoyed everything they had to offer. We overheard a tour guide, were presuming, explaining to someone how the address of this location (1933-1945 Meridian Avesignified the actual years of the war, which we didnt realize at first. That was very cool to know. Upon entering, there are granite walls with black and white photographs of the holocaust with small descriptions engraved beneath them, while the walk overlooks the blue-tinted pond and is covered by a small vine-covered patio.Totally recommend visiting this location!
Very impressive memorial. Have been to the holocaust memorial in Berlin, which is impressive in size but misses the actual point of being a memorial compared to this one. You can enter the memorial inside and stand in front of full-sized bronze statues illustrating all the cruelty. Maybe not a place to visit with children, though, but definitely left a memory.
You must visit this memorial. Its so beautiful and touching. There are not words to describe the feeling you get when you go around it and see all the sculptures, it really touches your heart and makes you think on humanity and how destructive we can be.
Simply put, it was amazing! So peaceful, yet so disturbing. The emotion you feel while standing there, reading about this travesty, is immense. It was well made. The Botanical Gardens, right behind it, is really neat too!
Holocaust Memorial is a tribute and open park dedicated to the memory of the 6 million Jews murdered before and during the World War II. It also features a photographic mural and a Memorial Wall with the names of the victims. If you have been in Jerusalem, you’ll notice the giant blocks of pink-hued Jerusalem stones that have been brought from Israel and set as a part of Memorial.
We didnt have much time to explore the memorial but from what I saw it was really well done. The statue really evoke emotion & the information was well presented.
Beautifully done!! Best to go during the daytime, i went more towards night and got bitten up by mosquitoes. Overall, very moving and informative. Free and spemt about 30min there reading and seeing it. Kudos to the creator.
We visited on Aug/15/18 and it was closed. We wandered by the Memorial pool and studied the Memorial walls. While disappointed that the museum was not open, I have to say I cried thru my whole visit as did my friend. If the purpose of this Museum is not allowing people to ever forget The Holocaust (which we shouldnt)...then it has achieved that.Go and pray for the souls memorialized on these walls, and those with no one to remember their names...now lost forever. Teach your children about the children who never stood a chance, and think about the helplessness of the parents who tried in vain to protect them from the cruelty and inhumanity surrounding them. The Holocaust happened because the human race failed...shame on all of us if we ever allow the victims to be forgotten.kids
Amazing place to learn some history about the holocaust. The art and structures are amazing and close distance to great shopping, eating and some gardens.
Informational, artistic, haunting, memorable, pretty darn amazing. Gives you what is surely a small sense of the scope of what happened. Much more than a single statue or Memorial, this is a walk-through exhibit. Well worth the trip and a real learning experience if you take the time.
Very bone chilling, well maintained memorial. Statues disturbing ..as was the music of children singing. Must see.
Impressive monument and a very real experience. Considering it is free, just do it! Leaves you insightfull and could be an eye opener if youve never had any thoughts about the holocaust and the atrocities commitet against some european minorities.
The memorial is located next to the Botanical Gardens. It is a great tourist location. This place may frighten small children but it would also serve as an educational opportunity. There is no name reference book at this memorial.
It is a sad place, but excellent not to forget the damage that was caused to the Jews during the war. I recommend visiting it.
Humbling. This is a very well done memorial and reminds us that we need to understand our past to move forward in OUR future.I highly recommend for all ages.
Beauty in Sadness. This Holocaust memorial is one of a kind and a must visit. Itll not take more than 30mins of time, so get a roadside metered parking (1$/15minsaccordingly and proceed.
Free open to the public sobering experience. The sculptures are amazing and there is a lot of history written on the walls. I recommend visiting this place, but dont come expecting to have a feel good experience.
A sobering and tremendously impactful visit every time. Dont go here looking for a happy feel good sort of time. Instead, it will sadden you to the core. The depths of mans depravity is obviously limitless.
Beautiful, powerful and intense memorial honouring the victims of the German Holocaust. Ive seen a lot of memorials but this one truly captures the emotion of this chapter of History.
