Erected in 1923, this symbolic landmark on Mount Lee is often viewed from Griffith Park Observatory.
Amazing view of Hollywood sign from Griffith ObservatoryWhat’s amazing about the Hollywood sign is the fact that it’s right in people’s backyard. You drive through neighborhoods to get there then wonder how it would be having so many tourists driving through your neighborhood. It was just plain old fun being there.
The sign erected in 1923 as an advertisement for a housing subdivision, the Hollywood Sign has evolved into a potent symbol of the region and of the dreams surrounding the movie and TV industry. The best places to see the Hollywood Sign are Griffith Observatory and Hollywood & Highland. You can hike toward the Sign along trails in Griffith Park, but you cannot get too close. The Sign is NOT illuminated at night. The Hollywood Sign Trust has collected all the best ways to see the Sign, including live webcams.
Very nice view but we don’t know the way drive up to the top mountain
The Hollywood sign looks exactly like youd expect it to. Nothing crazy in-person, but for the sake of checking off one of the most iconic landmarks in the United States? Its awesome!
Phototaking spot where there will be quite alot of people. For an easier hike, come up via the Mount Lee Drive as there is a proper terrain to walk.My whole hike journey of 2.5 hours: Wonder View Drive - Wonder View Trail (Wisdom Tree- Mount Lee Drive (Back and Front of Hollywood Sign- Mulholland Highway - Canyon Lake Drive (Hollywood sign viewpoint Lake Hollywood Park- Tahoe Drive - Lake Hollywood Drive
I loved the hike on the Hollywood mountain to see the sign. It was a really good exercise to go up and down the hill
Surreal experience seeing this from my childhood in cinemas. Pleasant place and nice view of LA city from the hill.
I didn’t hike all the way up there, but really cool to see the Hollywood sign for the first time. I would say don’t bring a big car (i.e no trucks or vansbecause the streets in the neighborhood were really tight and it was a lot of turns and hills in the neighborhood. (Yes, we were in a van). Additionally, there were a bunch of other cars there.
There were several small tour groups, but also plenty of parking to make it easy to just drive up from Hollywood. Lots of beautiful views of the sign, hills and architecture from old to new. This was on a 100+ degree day,but the clear skies made the views worth the trek.
It was such a lovely experience but due to it was kind of hell in LA due to the weather I almost quit and almost got sick. But anyways it was such a great experience and I will do it again for sure. I went with my sisters and just 1 of them quit unfortunately/. Thankfully a couple of rescue team gave us some water and for sure it was a piece of heaven.
Great experience! You still have to hiking there but the view is worth it.
Love the view from behind the Hollywood sign. The hike up there is manageable even on a hot summer day. Don‘t forget to bring water with you.
What’s amazing about the Hollywood sign is the fact that it’s right in people’s backyard. You drive through neighborhoods to get there then wonder how it would be having so many tourists driving through your neighborhood. It was just plain old fun being there.
Two routes to the sign. Id highly recommend the curated path up. The other route is a pure hike and probably not worth the time just to see the back of the sign.
Had a driver courtesy of the best American I’ve ever met. Drove up as close to the sign as we could. Letters look small.
A relatively easy hike with great views of LA. It’s one of the few free things you could do at LA. There’s this spot on the road where you could see the letters of the sign jumbled up. It’s kinda amazing! I don’t think the letters were placed intentionally like that but it’ll definitely make you doubt your eyes for a moment. See the picture I posted; and if you doubt me then just go on the hike (again, if you willto confirm. :)I’ll accept gift cards if you like this that much! Lol
Tip to take a photo from Hollywood sign is go to Canyon Lake Drive, one of the best place to see the Hollywood Sign. There are a green area perfect to have picnics, and panoramic views. The exact street address of the location is 3000 Canyon Lake Drive, Hollywood. Enter this address on Google Maps to get driving directions.
Iconic view! This is the closest place you can get to Hollywood sign without risk by car (3100 Canyon Lake Dr). Parking is on side of the road. At the top of the hill is the sign, at the bottom below you a magnificent Hollywood reservoir.
Booked a hiking tour up to the sign with my wife. Its an easy enough hike for anyone with a basic level of fitness. Beautiful views and an iconic piece of Los Angeles history. If you find yourself in LA, do yourself a favour and go check it out. I recommend a guided tour so that you can also learn a little of the history behind the sign.
Its not as big or prominent as you would expect, but it is still an iconic landmark. You can hike up close to the sign for the best view or you can take a trip to the Griffith Observatory for an unobstructed view, but parking is $10 an hour.
Had a wonderful experience trekking the mountains to find the best spot to capture the Hollywood sign. Guess what? I was about to find a spot which also gave me the skyline view of the whole city as well. Had a wonderful time here! Highly recommended..
So this is a must go in LA. Hard to find a good spot for pictures but if you don’t go there, did you really go to LA? Lol
Its a nice little trail. Bucket list item. Pretty flat. Quiet and chill in the morning. Free. Tough to find parking.
Looks fine.We didn’t have time to hike all the way up to the sign because apparently it takes 2-3 hours and is especially difficult when the temperature is 37 degrees. So we went to the second best spot in the city to see it - the Griffith Observatory. I’m not gonna lie, it is very far to take a proper picture from there but we did our best. If I was here on a longer holiday I would have definitely gone for the hike but it is what it is.
The most famous Hollywood sign in theworld, located on the slope of Mount Lee in Los Angeles, is clearly visible from virtually every point of the "City of Angels". The letters are white, 14 meters high, and 110 meters long. The Hollywood Hills inscription is for many people more than just the nine white letters that make up the name of the Los Angeles district. It is one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. A sign of success, fame, money and a dazzling career that anyone who crosses the threshold of the dream factory dreams of.As one enters Hollywood district you have plenty options to explore from; los angeles county museum of art, Griffith observatory, universal studios, Hollywood sign, Hollywoodwalk of fame, universal citywalk, TCL chinese theatre, universal studio tour etc.. i am sure a day spent here will be cherished for life.
Overall it’s really great view! Good on a good weather day, of course there are more views but this one beats it all to me. You can see the pretty city and take pictures. But beware there was lots of animals, including a coyote and vultures! Just be careful. But overall good section to take those pics!
One of the most famous landmarks known to human. If you are visiting Hollywood, you have to get a photo with these letters.Although it looks a bit mediocre in real life.
It was a hot day and took maybe 2hrs to hike up to Hollywood sign. Totally worth the 1x experience lol. Definitely walked round trip at least 5 miles. There is an observatory deck and multiple trails with varying difficulty to get up. Definitely a great workout. No bathrooms up on the mountains unfortunately. There is an observatory deck with bathrooms. Along with lower area free parking has bathroom stalls.
Not lit at night. Very difficult to see. The area residents do there best to obscure it and keep the public out.Still a VERY cool and iconic sight that I’m glad I’ve seen once in my life.
After having lunch and the Beachwood Cafe (highly recommended!!!we went for a great walk up to the Hollywood sign.It was a warm day however was well worth the truck up. You can’t get up in front of the sign but you can get up right behind the sign. There are ample opportunities for you to take photos on the way up where the sign is very clear. If you could do it I would say go all the way to the top, the view is absolutely rewarding and it is 360°We passed several people however the walk up is not crowded. Make sure you bring lots of water on a hot day!
Access to the Hollywood Sign continues to be a cat-and-mouse game between locals, officials and the public. If you want to see a sign go ahead and make the trip. If you want to do it to say you did it and it was on your to-do list, go ahead and do it.However, if you want to see it from afar you should go up Canyon run street to Cheramoya. Get out and take a picture. It should be decent enough. Then, if you have $65 a person, keep driving straight up. Youre will be a deli center to your left. Dont go that way. Stay straight and go to Sunset Ranch. My out-of-town friend and I decided to check it out. And 1hr for $65 is pretty dang cool to ride a horse. The people are super friendly and Unless you dont like horses, youll have a blast and be sooo happy you did it rather than a hike of a hill to see a sign. Ps. If you havent read already, you can go above the letters nut not below so you wont get a picture in front of them they are fenced off and monitored. The pics show you the street picture taken and the horse ride opportunity
Beautiful scenic 3 or 4 mile hike round trip to reach the top of the sign. There are plenty of places beforehand to see the sign from up front. The hike is not steep. Parking can be tricky, my recommendation is to park near Hollywood Lake park and walk up, this adds to the total time about 20/30 minutes but it’s well worth saving yourself a ticket. The earlier you can make it, the better.
I got the rare opportunity to be escorted to the base of the Hollywood sign by the Hollywood sign trust foundation. They told me all about the history of this iconic sign. The original letters were built out of wood and flimsy metal. Since then it’s had many facelifts. The Hollywood sign trust it’s now the one responsible for maintenance and upkeep of this sign. You cannot walk down to the sign. I repeat you cannot walk down to the sign without being escorted by the Hollywood sign trust. There’s several surveillance cameras and the police will come and give you a fine. I highly suggest walking to the viewpoint behind the sign. It’s a steep walk but the road is paved and once you get to the top it’s the best view of Los Angeles.
Best place to get a picture of the Hollywood sign. You can either hike it up the top of the hill or take a taxi but it’s well worth visiting. You can hike down and see nice views.
Hiked on 12/12/21 via Brush Canyon Trail. Moderate uphill 6.5 mile out and back. Uphill climb most of the time, well maintained trail, no shades, bring plenty of water, can get hot in the middle of day. Free parking, parking lot A (biggerand parking lot (Bsmall and closer to trail. Beautiful view of LA on top of Mt Lee.
If you park at the park and hike up it is truly so beautiful. The sign was close and the views were amazing and perfect for pictures.
Really great views, that you need to earn. Road is in rough shape if youre biking up. A mountain bike or gravel bike is recommended
Park at Griffith Observatory to hike to the Hollywood sign, free parking in the morning until maybe 10AM if I remember correctly. Trails are VERY POORLY marked, better have a good sense of direction, not many places to stop to pee so you have been warned....I suppose must people have cell phone navigation but I am not in the 21 century yet. A large portion of land near the sign was added to the park thanks in part t a rather large donation from the Hugh Hefner Foundation.
Hollywood Sign - HOLLYWOOD landmark on the southern slope of Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Low Mountains in Los Angeles, California. The letters are white, 14 meters high, and 110 meters long. The most famous Hollywood sign in the world, located on the slope of Mount Lee in Los Angeles, is clearly visible from virtually every point of the "City of Angels".The Hollywood Hills inscription is for many people more than just the nine white letters that make up the name of the Los Angeles district. Excellent world known icon. An awesome 5 mile hike to the backside of the sign and to the communications center. You should do it at least once in your life! :and didnt have to show proof of vaccine.
Very magical place. Theres a loop trail that is about 6 mi long that circles the mountain around the Hollywood sign. It climbs to the top via some rocky terrain and circles back via luxury residential area.
Beautiful and truly iconic. Worth the drive. If you wanna get as close as I did, search on Google Maps:Reja principal para comenzar ascenso final a letrero HollywoodIdk why it’s in Spanish buts that what you’re looking for
We took the Mulholland Hwy to Mount Lee Drive. We hiked the Aileen Getty Ridge trail. I was mesmerized by the beautiful views this trail provides. As a local, I was impressed. We were able to see the front and back of the Hollywood sign. It was a remarkable experience, breathtaking views.
There are many places to take a pic of the famous sign. If you don’t want to hike, just google Lake Hollywood Park. You’ll get a clear decent pix. If you don’t mind a 6 miles out and back moderate hike with awesome views, start at Camp Hollywoodland. When you get to the Mt Lee dr split, go right if you want to get above the sign. The Bronson cave is blocked off FYI
I would never want to live around there due to the tight streets and I’m guessing bad parking (if you don’t have a garage); I couldn’t afford it if I wanted to anyway 😁. It reminded me of when I lived in Roxborough, just outside of Philly where streets that should be one way are used for two way traffic. But, the sign is an icon and we were leaving Universal Studios so we decided to stop for pictures. It was cool to see it in person.
Here is the view from the Observatory. A little far for an iPhone camera. I wish we could have hiked closer, but with littles it’s pretty far…I think 8.5 miles of a moderate/hard hike. It’s still fun to see if it’s a bucket list item or you want a different view of the LA area. Parking is free before Noon on weekdays.
The hike up is really good and calming. There are certain trails that can turn into a little but of rock climbing. The trail is mostly wide and flat, it goes up and down. The sign and the city can be seen after the sun is up.
Early morning at the conservatory/ planetarium free parking b4 10am. Beautiful clear nonsmoking walking, running, biking, driving, skating paths. Enjoyable for the whole 👪 family! 🐕 friendly! Hummingbird bushes, binoculars, 10$ parking after 10am.security, views of LA and Hollywood sign 35min walk.Loved it!
It’s a huge Hollywood sign. We were able to park on the side of the street and walked few steps to an open lot below the sign. No parking or entrance fee. We went around 7pm. We waited about 5 mins to secure a side street parking. It’s probably more congested if we went earlier. It was incredible to see a world famous sign, finally in person. We had a wonderful time taking pictures!
