Absolutely spectacular! Make sure to pack in a picnic, light a beach fire and enjoy the ocean and views. The hike from Coffee Shack to the Hole in the Wall is highly recommended. Lucky was a fantastic tour guide!

I was looking forward to a hotel and elite Accomodation and Environment from the pictures, this is not the case.It is a chapette type place with semi adventure type and regular people looking for a place to relax or have a Braai. This is not a holiday destination for the family

We parked in the Hotel grounds. Walked for about 20 minutes to the Hole in the wall. I have knee problems so it goes slower. It is a moderate walk through a forest. To go to the boiling pot afterwards is a tougher climb. Well I made it and it was worth doing the walk slowly! Afterwards we had a drink and order pizza takeaway at the hotel

Great scenery. Spent a small amount of time here cause we were hiking and only stopped at hole in the wall for a brief excursion. Clean beach, generally liked the vibe there. Not the safest place to go alone, so I highly advice you tag along a group of friends or get a local guide.

Great in and out day visit experience, view is always great especially for an inland fellow like me. Not particularly impressed with the hole in the wall itself.

A view like no other, the option of the swim across is available but sitting across the Hole in the wall suffices just as much while enjoying the mix of ocean and river water. A short walk from the main beach, the view is worth the walk

Amazing tourist attraction. You can enjoy sitting right in front of Hole in the wall. Its lovely to swim in. Theres also the hill/mountain right beside it that you can walk up in less that 10 minutes. Its also beautiful see from a high view if you park on the mountain in front of it. You can fish or walk to the rock pools and theres this mini gorge you can jump into the ocean from and it takes you out to the shore.

It is a stunning place. Nice walk from Hole in the Wall. A local took us to the Hole in the Wall and also showed us the boiling point. Suggest to take water with. We were glad the local took us, otherwise we would not have seen the Boilingpoint. If you cannot walk there is a lookout point from where you can take pictures. I know there is a path down but do not know the condition.

Beautiful and serene place shielded deep in the heart of the Eastern Cape. Apart from the potholes on the way from Mthatha to Coffee Bay, the overall trip was pleasant. Slept at a place called Coram Deo. Not five star accommodation but it met our needs. One could upgrade their accommodation for the Hole in the wall resort but what I liked at the Coram has to have been the wonderful drumming experience of Richard

Amazing views, definitely worth a stop if youre in the area. We had some "local tour guides" take us to view the hole. This isnt entirely necessary as the hike is easy to find, especially if you have some kind of map. The footpath is on OpenStreetMap. They also, understandably expect a compensatory tip.

Another have to visit part of our country. No photo is a true reflection of what this place really looks like. Of course there are locals begging and others just hanging around in the area where you have to park and you belongings are out of sight when you go right down to the beach. It is better to be there as a group.

This has been on our bucket list for some time and we were not disappointed. This iconic landmark makes for a perfect photo tour on its own. Waving landscapes cascade to the focal point that is the Hole in the Wall. You can not help bur wonder what it must looked like the day the hole was punched through the landscape all that years ago.Top tip is to take care of the dozens of "guides" that swarm you on arrival. You are much better off arranging a official guide at your hotel. You will have much more peace of mind that way.

One of the most beautiful places in South Africa! Absolutely breathtaking! The locals are very friendly. Had an amazing time with friends, family and kids. Climbing the hill gives you the most amazing view. Remember to take some water with - the closest shop is Hole-in-the-wall hotel. Was there during low tide which enabled us to walk up to the hole - experiencing the thundering water as the waves crashes through. An absolute must when in this area....or any area! Its worth the travel.

This was one of the most spectacular places I have visited. From the emerald Green rolling hills, to swimming in the warm blue ocean and soft beach sand under your feet. This place is definitely worth the visit! If you climb the hill (or drive), the view from the top is breathtaking! Time seems to stand still as you take a few moments to sit down on the grassy hill overlooking the valley, and soak in the view of " The Hole in Wall".

The road leading to the hole in the wall is filled with potholes. You can only drive about 30-40km as you are dodging the potholes as well as our curious donkeys, ducks, horses and sheep. But it is wort all that when you get there. Gods creations are majestic

Hole in the wall hotel (Resortis beautifully positioned on the banks of the beach. Recently did a solo trip, best decision of my life. Ive always read reviews of how bad the roads are & that one needed a 4X4 to get there (not true). Yes the road has a lot of curves, yes there are potholes (huge noticeablefor +-15 kms of the tar to be traveled the road is driveable. I used a small hatchback and made it safe in one piece. Theres a 10-15min drive on the best gravel road Ive ever driven on. This road was currently being fixed at time of travel, looked like they were widening the road. Finally the staff at this resort are amazing special mention to Nodumo a receptionist at this establishment. Lady made this happen for me. Driving there I wondered how Id see the places Id seen in pictures. When I got there within minutes she had eliminated my anxiety and had organized me a trusted local whod be my tour guide. This gentleman had a reflector jacket with the hotels name on it. Athi was his name, so humble and knows quite a lot about the history of this place. This young man was the highlight of my trip. He took one of the greatest pictures Ive ever seen & captured all my moments. I am due to return with my friends in a months time, thats how much I loved the experience.

Pretty obvious why you will love Hole in the Wall! The very best of natural, unspoilt beauty. Park on the hill above the hole and take the 3 minute walk down. The walk back up may take a few minutes more! Swimming is safe in the small bay. Jumping off the rock ledge to the right of the hole is possible, as the wave comes in. Obviously it is dangerous, but I lived to tell the take.

Oh my words. We liked it.Friendly ferral dogs crossing the river.Swimming. Goats climbing rocks and trees.Friend tripping while crossing the river... but keeping his backpack dry while trying to think how to get up and keep the bag dry... while the current and waves pushed and pulled at him. Haha.Nice swimming and good to see See-cows(not manatee- but Nguni).

Magical, the wonder of God’s creation. We parked at Hole in the Wall hotel for R50, then a guide was assigned to us (at a costto take us for the walk to the Hole in the Wall, which took about 15 minutes. I enjoyed the walk to the beach, as well as the walk/swim to Hole in the Wall. You can easily spend 3 to 4 hours there, bring a chair and an umbrella, swim costume and sun screen lotion. The guide also took us to the Boiling Water viewpoint on the way back. The best activity to do in Coffee Bay!

Very pretty. One has to use some initiative to get there. No designated parking area, we parked slightly off the gravel road and followed an unmarked footpath down the hill to the beach area from where you can see the hole in the wall. On a hot day I suppose it is also a nice area to take a swim - but only in the river/lagoon area since the riptides and waves crashing on the rocks can be very dangerous. There are more unmarked footpaths around the area. Nice place to take the kids if you are in the area.

I could go on and on about this place but all I can do is show you the photos and advise you to put this majestically peaceful place down on your bucket list of places to go. You wont regret it and if youre a swimmer please do yourself a favour and take a splash- you lose all sense of time and because the area itself has virtually no crime your belongings are safe if you do decide to take a dip. My husband and I left our cellphones and belongings in our bag and swam to the beach and back with no fear. This is definitely worth the rough gravel drive and if youre keen to make a holiday of it as we did book your rondavel at Swell Eco Lodge; great people, great service and even better views of the ocean ❤️

Breathtakingly beautiful. Was on my bucket list and came here in early Feb to celebrate a significant milestone. I will never forget my time here. It was well worth the drive here. Yes, the drive. See my pics of the road of last few kms before you get here - and it was raining! But. All will be forgiven when you get here, as you step back in time to place of unspoilt beauty. Walked alone twice to the Hole, through the coastal forest (met some horses grazingsounds of abundant birdlife, and then had the beach all to myself. Sit back and take it all in. Amazing. It replenishes the soul. This is a special place. Walked away leaving only my footprints.

Nice beach and small forest with options for short walks. The beach is calm but beware of teenagers offering "guiding" and watching your car at the parking, try to decline politely, they will be very pushy.

We were a little disappointed by our experience. The roads were nightmarish (unless you have an offroad car), and Hole in the Wall hotel quite sneakily puts up large signs leading to their establishment, only to ask for a R50 parking fee and reveal that the real hole in the wall is actually a 15 minute walk away. After finding the actual hole in the wall stop, which was a small parking stop 5 minutes away from the landmark, we were a bit uncomfortable with the large crowd of locals that aggresively insisted either on watching our car or guiding us to hole the wall. The scenery is certainly beautiful, but it wasnt worth the hassle.
