Hoba Meteorite - Tourist attraction in Otavi, Namibia
The entry is pretty expensive - 250 NAD for adult. But it is an unique experience.
Not worth the price! 250 NAD and you only walk 50m to see one "stone". The Meteorite itself would be interesting but I would not be willing to pay more than 30-50 NAD for it. Feels like a tourist rip-off.Also the restrooms were not very clean, the toilet didnt flush, not soap or paper towels available.
Unique and interesting
5 Stars for the Meteorite, but "ZERO" Stars to the gouverment, cause of the unbelievable entrance fee of about 250 NAD per Person. This is absolutely unacceptable. The toilets are dirty, no handsoap, no paper. Its a shame. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I feel sorry for the employees, who have to deal with the complains. All around 2.5 Stars.
After corona they increased entrance fee by 500% (now its 250 NAD). It became just tourist trap
It was a pleasant experience. However, it is too expensive for international visitors. Sort out your prices and get our international visitors in more numbers...
Decided against visiting as the price of 250 NAD didnt seem worth it.
Ridiculous price, turned back and didnt enter.Tourists, dont go there. Its a fun novelty but just Google the picture and spend your money elsewhere.
The site is located a few minutes from the parking. You have to pay for access because it is a national monument. It is quite large. Interesting!
INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS… DO NOT GO! They increased the price 5 fold to N$250. It was 50 and still is for African tourists. This is horrific racial bias. Do not tolerate it. Not worth it! A photo of it from google is more than enough!
250N$ for a tourist is way too much...
Hopeful theyll reduce the entrance fee...
Apparently the price per person has recently gone up from 50 to 200 per person. For a family of 4 this was too much. We ended up not seeing the meteorite.
The price for a visit is terribly expensive, you pay 250 N$ per person to take a look at a large stone. We immediately left when we heard this price.
Nice stopover to witness something really unique. What meets the eye probably doesn’t match the story behind it, but it’s certainly worth pausing for half an hour to see this once in a lifetime meteorite. The witty signage certainly adds to the entertainment.
It takes 5 min. to see the metal rock - nothing else to do here. A bit disappointing. Entrance fee is a bit high compared to other highly impressive Namibian attractions
Really expensive!!250 $ NAD per adults and 200$ NAD per children! So 900$ for 2 adultes and two children, around 60 Euros! It was a tenth of the price in 2019...Really not worth it: 5 walk to see a meteorite. Nothing more: no guide, no explanations on site.Worth 1* but I put 2 stars because there are a couple of explanations at the entrance and its the largest meteorite found on earth...
A unique and interesting experience. One of a kind and highly recommended
Quite a rip off… 250N$ entrance fee as a tourist compared to the normal living costs when you are camping in Namibia or the average salary of people here it’s way out of proportion !!! It’s really sad that the organization running these places just want to make as much money as possible after Covid and compared to older reviews they quintupled the prices. Wouldn’t recommend to pay that much money, we didn’t go in and turned around.
The price per person is $250 Namibian dollar. Great to see the meteor but expensive for total time spent at the site
Caution rip-off!We were asked from which country we came and then wanted to have 250 Nam Dollars per person. Its not worth it.
Quick visit as there is not much to see after you visit the meteor site. There are picnic spots around the meteor. Some information available to read as you walk in & you get a pamphlet. Clean toilets. Curio shops with some bits.
One of the biggest meteorites in the world. Love the shop. Excellent information leaflet. Very clean and tidy.
The legacy of this meteorite is stunning!!Graffiti and attempts to take a piece of this monumental meteorite is something that I noticed... Humans have a long way to go to appreciate nature and the wonders
Worlds largest know meteorite. Some shade under trees to have lunch and botanical guide to trees.
Fun to visit if you pass by and the meteorite is taken car of!
Was born in Namibia but never seen this before. Always wanted to see it and was quite amazed on how big the meteorite actually is - just amazing!Ablutions not in the best and cleanest condition though, take own toilet paper along if you really need to go.But still worthwhile to look at the meteorite. Also, one important direction sign on the main dirt road is missing, when coming from the North, so easy to miss the turnoff to the actual sight.
Was a bit underwhelming. But, cool to see the meteorite.
Nice to see, some information at the entrance. After 15min youve seen it all, but worth a small detour.

The Hoba (/ˈhoʊbə/ HOH-bəmeteorite, short for Hoba West, is a meteorite that lies on the farm of the same name, not far from Grootfontein, in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. It has been uncovered but, because of its large mass, has never been moved from where it fell.Massive 30-Ton Meteorite Worth Nearly $12 Million Unearthed In Argentina.
Very cool to be able to see and touch a meteorite. Limited facilities make the experience short lived. That being said, I suggest you pack a picnic basket if youre wanting to spend more time at this wonderful spot.
What a surprising and somewhat pleasant feeling to stand next to an out if space eliment which fell to earth 80 000yrs ago...great camping site to considder among acres of farmland.
When you stand in the middle of the meteorite. What ever that is said will have an echo
Great place if you enjoy a good drive out to a meteorite. Really cool to see something that has been there for thousands of years. Thoroughly enjoyed the service there. Bring a sticker and be sure to stick in on sign outside the admitions office.
A must see when you are next in Northern Namibia, near Grootfontein. This famous Hoba meteorite landed on the farm of the same name, not far from Grootfontein, in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia. The entrance fee was N$ 40 for adults and N$30, which I think is a bit overpriced for what you see and get. Just a word of warning, their shop only accepts cash...definitely not credit cards. Its a long way to go out there expecting a nice cold ice-cream or cold drink and to be disappointed due to having no cash. The meteorite is the largest in the world and is very metallic looking, viewed from all the visible sawed off sections on it, which, by the way, is illegal to do. The trees in the area are all numbered for ease of identification. the tree list is available at reception. The whole site is very clean and tidy and ideal for planning a picnic there as there are plenty of braai places with long curved benches under shady trees so go prepared for some quality time in the bush. I suggest that local knowledgeable guides should be available to give tourists a running commentary on the local trees, birds, lizards and random snakes that appear. For the overnighters needing a chalet, there are a number available.
Great to see the meteorite, would be nice to have a tour guide around to give you more information. And useful if the curio shop accepted cards and not just cash. Wanted to buy souvenirs but didnt have enough cash on us. Middle of nowhere so no atm nearby.
A huge piece of very ancient (more than 4 billion years!iron from the extraterrestrial body. Pleases eyes. Admires the opportunity to lie on the warm back of an alien from another planet...There is no such possibility in any meteorite museum in the world.
Interesting history behind the meteorite. There is also a small shop to buy your souvenirs and colddrinks from. Just remember to take enough cash with because there is no card facilities.
Bigest peace of natural (space in factborn iron on the world. Great place.
Very informative and historical area of great significance in the history of the earth
Friendly staff. Thats about it. Truly an anticlimax for me. See the meteorite, buy souvenirs and off you go. More attractions need to be added to make it a worthy visit. The scenery is great, just add a few more activities then people can stay longer and spend more.
Its a lot of iron, and you can walk on it. Interesting to see results of all the attempts to cut a piece of it. All the funny signs on the way were a nice addition.
We were debating stopping here because it was slightly out of our way but so glad we did. Really cool and interesting.
This is one of the most amazing experiences I had with my kids. To actually sit on the biggest meteor that fell on earth and the kids to experience this was a memory I will always remember. I also read that NASA actually came out at one point but it was to big to move so now it is a spot to visit for anybody. It is kind of in the middle of know where but if you plan to go past Grootfontein you might as well stop here
A great place to relax and have a picnic while the kids play on a surprisingly cool meteorite.
Whats interesting is that its solid metal and all was so fascinated by it wanted to look for my old science books and all 😉. Will gooogle more bout this so I can speculated and think more about where its from kkkk
It is good to see the largest meteorite visible on earth but in itself not that much interesting. The place looks very nice and it seams that you can also have picnic or even camp here. That would be nice. It would also be nice if they served coffee beer or something small to eat. As it is you can just buy some soft drinks. Bun nice place anyway, worth visiting if you are passing by.
The meteorite itself is quite impressive, but I think the way it is displayed (in the bottom of a hole with seating around itseemed dissapointing. When I went, there was no additional information given about the age, composition, or discovery of the meteorite.
Not as big as I expected but definitely something worth seeing so you can brag to your friends about it. Also, there are no aliens near the metro. Disappointed by that.
