Hoagie Hut - Takeaway in Waukegan, United States
Hoagie Hut in Waukegan
Description
People are rude, food is plain and disgusting, and they got my order wrong all 3 times I went there
MoreSandwiches will change your life #cheesesteakhoagie
Got a chicago cheesesteak..it was full of onions..a sliver of meat..wasnt worth the money...
MoreSo not only did they charge me extra for using a credit card which was posted but they took double and sat on my money. Absolutely horrible and you should not ever go to this restaurant! They don’t deserve even the mandatory one star we are forced to give them to say our piece.
MoreBest gyro in Lake County.
Horrible they give u more lettece and tomatoes then meat!! Bread dry And hard meat was old or sitting for a while then they got the nerve to be high i dont recommend don waste ur money
MoreShame on whoever is downing this place because of the way the building looks. I have lived in Michigan and out of il for 2 long! But one thing I will never forget, is my fav hoagie hut!! Just melt in your mouth great hoagie, cant get better💙
MoreSteak hoagie is delicious especially if you like onions. If you dont, I reccomend asking for less or getting something different. Make sure you add Louisiana hot sauce it pairs amazingly well!
Moregood restaurant very tasty food 100% recommend
This one of the go to places we have stop every time we come out from New Hampshire
MoreHoagie Hut remains a classic local establishment. Is it sparkling clean with fine dining? No. If you want that go to 10 billion other places. If you want a greasy spoon that hits perfectly every time, this is your getaway and has been for decades.
MoreI absolutely love the steak hoagie. I highly recommend the food.
Chicago Cheese Steak Hoagie (12inch:Soft bread, very onion forward, very tender steak, needs more cheese. Slightly less meat for the price than I thought. Almost $13 for the footlong, closer to $7 for the six inch.Combo with sandwich for $3.50 includes a side order of fries and a drink of any size (small, medium, large)Fries:Soft, not crisp but not soggy, didnt include the cheese I ordered (a big problem in my eyes at any restaurant). A fair amount of Fries for the price was nice to see.Total was $19.40 cash, using credit is $.50 extra (come on its 2022).A drive through is always welcome and appreciated to me, even if it is rough.Building looks pretty sketchy, outer decor and guardrails paint chipping/fading. Though sometimes places like this can be good hole in the walls, this place is relatively ok if its close.
MoreOmg this is by far the best place Ive eaten at, Im a repeated customer and the day this place doesnt exist any more wont know what to do. I love their Chicago steak hoagie, its so delicious and I keep coming back for this sandwich in particular.
MoreThis is another hidden gem I happened to roll across. The Hoagie Hut building is unremarkable as it stands along a strip of many busy stores on Grand Avenue but man are you on for a hum dinger of a surprise when you try their food!Forst of all for all those people who dont know the difference between a hoagie and a sub, once you eat here, you will never be the same. Secondly, the food I ordered through the drive thru was fresh and hot; made to your specifications! For a modest price you get great tasting food that makes you want to eat there everyday.I recommend the Steak and Bacon hoagie, its off the chain for real. Its the type of place that makes you come back for more. I wish you could dine in, it would easily be a year round hang out for me.
MoreComplete jerks. I’ve been a huge hoagie hut fan for my whole life but seems like Reiko is gone and now they close whenever they want even when people are waiting in line an hour before their stated closing time. Food tastes great but they won’t stay on business with both health code violations snd bad customer service.
MoreFood ok. They have a surcharge if you use a credit card. Credit card reader is a rube goldberg setup that looks like it was purchased from Radio Shack. Makes me wonder about the rest of their equipment.
MoreSandwhiches are good. But yall should be ashamed of appetizers. Ordered onion rings, half the order was trash, mozz stx didnt get the sauce. Spent almost 45 and the order should have been correct through n through. Smh. Havent had you guys in several years, after that, will probably be another several. Get it together yall
MoreI wrote a review for HH 4 years ago giving them 4 stars. Now Im giving you 2 stars! I see that the old staff have returned during this period of Covid, atleast the one guy thats been there for several years is back. Hoagie Hut changed their french fries without informing customers?! I went back a 2nd time, same thing, so I asked the old head and he admitted to changing them! The new fries are horrible, mine were horrible, and also partly burnt! My steak hoagie was way under seasoned! What is going on?! So disappointing! I have to find a new spot and after you guys had the best fries in town! Sad.
MoreTheyve been around forever, and theyre one of the better priced stalwarts of this particular food fair. The homemade German chocolate cake is to die for! The Chicago style Polish sausages, well, remind me of Old Maxwell Street in chicago. And, that saying a lot because we used to frequent Maxwell Street when I was a kid and it brought back a lot of memories.
MoreI love the food here it is one of the best things honestly truly I have been there three times since the 1st of January during their open hours and they were closed all sorts of frustrated cuz I want my fix.
MoreGreat hoagies hot & cold a must try and plenty on the menu to choose from.
I have not been to Hoagie Hut since they were beside Ft. Sheridan in 1996/7 and they have been on my mind since then. They are that good. I had the 12" Chicago Cheese Steak hoagie and I was not disappointed. It took over an hour to get there and will go again if I have the urge.
MoreBest hoagie Ive ever had. Dont get out there very often but when I do Im extremely thankful there still there and I always pick me up an extra hoagie for later. Thank you Hoagie Hut for the best Hoagies EVER!!
MoreNot a fan of this place at all, some of my coworkers are and Ill pick up lunch for them. I cant base this review on recent experiences because I have refused to eat anything there after the last horrible experience I had. I ordered a salad that was just plain bad. The lettuce looked old and it was almost all the bitter yellow part of the head. I whent to Save-A-Lot and got a pre-packaged salad for $1 and ate that instead. In all fairness, this was one to two years ago (never ate from there againand perhaps its under new management/ownership.
MoreThis place is the incredible, old school hoagies you are looking for. Philly cheese was loaded with toppings and delicious. Better than Jersey Mikes, at a better price, and I love Jersey Mikes.
MoreSmall place, consider this more of a pickup and go type of food joint. Hoagie Hut makes some amazing Hoagies. Hot take: Their Chicago Cheesesteak Hoagie is the best sub in all of Chicagoland. Its really that good. Greasy, but goooooood.
MoreGood food good owner will take your order and treat you as a person even while it is in waukegan. She uses gonella bread for her sandwiches! She doesnt short the meat and a ton of fries. Try this little shop, youll go back.
MoreI will say this, Hoagie Hut is not your typical average hot dog stand like dozens of other places around the Chicago area.Ive heard it more than a couple of times in the past whether at work or out n about that this place is "dumpy" or it looks "run down".Feel like telling these people that they wouldnt think that if they actually stopped in and tried the food here especially one of their awesome hoagies. Their menu is pretty extensive but its the hoagies and hot dogs that have the wide variety.Good service and great quality food at reasonable prices, Hoagie Hut has been a Waukegan favorite for decades and I hope for continued success & prosperity for the owner(s).If you havent tried this place then get in here!😎👍
MoreIf you have a large order go inside an order and dont waste your time with the ancient intercom. I placed an order and checked my recite because an item was missing, went back inside to order the missing items. When I got home two items that were on the recite were missing. Good food but check your order
MoreFor the North Shore folks this place is a spot from back in the day. Highwood was my first, and this place keeps it going. Best part is seeing the Chi Steak pics with hot sauce. People in the "know" keep that tradition alive.
MoreThe best of the best cheese steak hoagies you’ll ever have!Family owned and operated been going there for 20 years if you don’t know about it find it and go it’s on route 120 close to Green Bay Road.ask for MAMA! Makes home made cake TOO !!
MoreThey have the best bacon dogs ever!!! Large menu and lots of choices. If you have a dog they even give you a treat for them. We visit here regularly.
MoreNot sure if its the same people who owned the one in highwood, but it was still just as good as I remember. I honestly didnt know if the place was open because the outside looks like a building that needs some tlc, but it definitely was. The service was great and I always appreciate when people are nice even though we have loud kids and lots going on in the front. The cheese from my cheese fries wasnt great, but my philly cheese steak was. Id suggest making sure theres enough meat on the chicago cheese steak since my cousin had quite a bit more lettuce than meat in her hoagie. Either way, the sandwiches were great and I also love when shops have cherry coke as an option. I believe I paid $18 for a hoagie, cheese fries, burger and fries so that is probably normal these days for Illinois prices. Overall, good experience!
MoreBest sandwich in Lake County. It will clog your arteries but if youre looking to treat yourself, as well as your taste buds, dont pass it up.
MoreIve always ordered the steak and mozzarella cheese hoagie. Still have same great taste. Has a little less meat then originally when they were in Highwood. Still love my Hoagies though
MorePicked up an original cheese steak hoagie and it wasnt as good as I remember tons more lettuce than anything else and not enough mayo or dressing..but still good, but not the fantastic I remember.
MoreLet me just say I got a Chicago Dog and cheese fries for $4.25. Cheese could improve to be a little creamier but Im not complaining for the price. Dog was loaded!
MoreI love the cheese steak hoagie it is amazing. The Gyro cheese burger loaded omg! They make home made desserts that are so tasty you can tell made with TLC. I have to say I made the sandwiches combos they are the same price or with in 15 cents of a mcd’s meal and 100% tastier! I am a foodie I recommend this place. The menu that google has up is wrong I posted an updated one. Thank you enjoy this place!
MoreHoagie Hut has a variety of great hoagies at very reasonable prices. Sandwiches are served hot or cold, at your preference, and are chock full of fresh ingredients. If you love hoagies, definitely give this place a try. YUMMO! 😋
MoreU know, Ive passed Hoagie But 4 many years & ALWAYS wanted 2 stop there but didnt have a car back then! I finally got a car this year,(4 my Birthday)👏 & my Boyfriend & I stopped by there(FINALLY& I had the Philly Steak Hoagie & Onion Rings & my Boyfriend had the Chili Dogs! The food was so FRESH & the Onion Rings( A HUGE ORDERwere some of the BEST TASTING & CRISP, I be EVER had!!! & the food was nice & hot! Also the 2 times( the second time I took a Friend), the Staff was so KIND & COURTEOUS!!! DEFINITELY A MUST VISIT!!! 🍟🍔💖💝👏
MoreHow this place has a 4+ rating I’ll never know. Thought I would give it a try. Sandwiches are small. Decor is tiny and outdated. The whole place really needs a teardown and a redo. The only reason I didn’t give it one star is the kid that took my order was pretty nice. I found it odd that they’re selling plush toys and wrapping paper. I won’t be returning.
MoreGood food, but the place lacks curb appeal and needs a makeover on the inside. Only issue is there isnt any space. Felt they were a little stingy with the sandwich meat even when paying for extra. Ive been once and Ill likely try again at some point in the future.
MoreThis place is great. Polish sausage is much better than in any other restaurant and all for a good price.
MoreBeen coming to the Hoagie Hut for years! As a kid my mom used to take me to the Highwood shop and tell the same story about how she met Scottie Pippen & Horace Grant waiting in line EVERY time. Minus the childhood memories, this is still one of the best sandwiches Ive had in the Midwest. I mean, look at it! The rolls toasted, the meats tasty and the toppings are always packed on. I dont know what type of sorcery happens when these oils mix with those seasonings but Im here for it. Keep the good times rolling, HH!
MoreBest Sandwich Ive ever had in my life. I have been a customer for 20 years between this location and the original Highwood store. Always consistent and the way I remember. Friendly and fast
MoreI went in the other night around 7:45 pm thru the drive thru and ended up waiting 20 minutes for the food no joke. When I got home and opened up the skimped hoagie it was very dry with very little to no oil or seasonings the bread was really toasted almost burnt that it scratched my mouth up trying to eat it and the meat had not been broken up and cooked thoroughly it was like a they just threw the meat puck on the grill and pressed down on it to try and cook it faster or something. It seems that the night time employees just seem to be in a rush to get out of there. I personally will not be going back anymore and will not be recommending this place to anyone anymore. Its ridiculous the way the employees behave and they basically close it down whenever they want so dont ever trust whatever their schedule on the door might say. They should really consider hiring some people with some kind of personality or enthusiasm for there brand and products. What does it cost them to say thanks for coming in or have a nice day? Started getting sick the last few times I went there and I noticed they dont use gloves when preparing the food so yeah Im done with this place for good.
MoreI would drive 500 miles out of my way to visit this place. The food transcindes our preconceived notions of what taste buds are or ever could be. The first bite and the last bite will always be the best as they will always be the ones you appreciate most.
MoreOne of the best sandwich shops in Waukegan, if not the best. Their corned beef hoagie is the best Ive had around here. The service is OK, and the store itself isnt that pretty to look at. I thought the place was closed down for a long time. But Im glad I stopped in to see.
MoreGrabbed my honey some lunch and the service was good but the food was horrible. His sandwich was dry, his tea was gross. I ordered a pizza puff, how can you go so wrong it was super greasy and bitter. Yes bitter about as bitter as the tea was. So sad use to love this place.
