Museum housing exhibits on Palm Beach County's historical people, places & ecology.
Very cute museum with interesting history of Palm Beach and the surrounding areas. Nice historical pieces to view and in a great old building. Staff was very nice.
Learned plenty about PBC. Facinating displays
Fun and heard a lovely story about how coconuts are not indigenous but are the result of a shipwreck 😀
The Historical Society has a lecture series that is not to be missed. The lecturers are never boring, instead they get you excited about their subject. Join them the second Wednesday of the month.
I really love history and seeing local history is awesome. So when one of my BoyScouts asked if we could go, I was all over it. They loved it, learning how the town started and grew and seeing the difference between the 1916 court house and the state of art one across the street.
This is the way to get the history of Palm Beach county in an entertaining presentation. You can tour on your own or have a docent take you through. There is just enough text with each visual display to give you the story without excess length.
Amazing staff. Helpful, knowledgeable, kind. Great resource and starting point to learning more about the Palm Beach area! Also Free admission/donation admission. Highly recommend donating to keep new exhibits happening.
This is a great museum full of history and knowledgeable people! Jay and John were very helpful!! I would definitely recommend this for anyone and it’s free with a recommended donation!
Awesome I was amazed the information I learned. The displays where also awesome I highly recommend visiting this place you wont be disappointed.
Stopped by with my ten month old and our stroller. Fabulous exhibits and great way to spend 30 minutes out of the sunshine. There is an accessible entrance with elevator on east side of building. The staff were super informative and friendly. Thank you!
A great place with lots of history to share. Must visit!
I highly recommend this museum! It is small but packed with lots of information. John a guide for the museum told us really interesting local stories and little known Palm Beach facts. We ended our visit with a trip to the gift shop and brought home some unique local books and toys for the kids. Great place to visit!
Quite an interesting museum! My best friend and I decided to take a trip on the Amtrak a month ago. Weve never been on the train or traveled to WPB. We arrived about an hour till closing and had such a great time doing the guided tour. The older gentleman who guided us had such a passion for history; I truly recommend you to go with him to get the full experience. The staff were incredibly kind. If you plan on coming to WPB, this is a good place to start.
Very cute and thorough for a municipal museum, nice building, worth seeing, nice clean huge bathrooms and good air con, a good stop in a hit and busy adventure touristy day.
Its amazing to read the articles and view the artifacts of how palm beach was before my era.
Considering that this museum has no admission fee, I will give it a full five stars. I didn’t know anything about Palm Beach before I went to this museum but I know a lot now. I went about 1:30 PM on a Saturday afternoon and I was the only person there. Street parking is available. I put 4 quarters in the parking meter which gave me 48 minutes and that ended up being just the right amount of time to spend inside.
A great little museum in a beautiful building. Helpful and friendly guides.
Great informative museum! It’s free to the public and has a ton of interesting information about the history and current day Palm Beach County. Definitely recommend!
Very nice museum. Small, but very informative and a lot to learn about South Florida. The guide men, who I forgot to ask for his name 🙈 dressed as the mail man was amazing and very patient with children! Highly recommend this place. 🥰🥰
Totally enjoyed my experience. Excellent and eye opening. Highly recommend it!
Great small museum that gives a good overall understanding of the Palm Beach area with historical perspective. Excellent docent.
There is a wealth of information to be had in a historical setting the guys are excellent and the exhibits are very informative
Great Building and amazing historic museum 🌴💖
A really interesting museum with lots of photos and items to investigate. Its amazing to see how our region has developed in 130 years. The old courthouse building itself is interesting to explore.
SandyJames conducts events here all the time. Awesome place to visit and the staff is very friendly!!
Awesome old county courthouse in downtown West Palm Beach. Really cool place on the inside, they did an amazing job restoring it 😊👍
Its clean and convenient and its Kool place you can hang out there
Very beautiful part of the city. I really liked the surroundings out East near the waters "undisclosed location" ... there so many to name what is YOUR favorite?
I love this little museum so much. To start with it is housed on the first floor of the Neoclassical 1916 Palm Beach Courthouse. Architectural features of the building include oak paneling, mosaic tile hallways, maple floors, and a two story courtroom with balcony and skylights. When it was built it was called "the handsomest" in Florida. Soon after it was built however it was forced to expand to meet the needs of the growing community. One expansion took place in 1927 but the worst one was a 5.5 million dollar wraparound that covered building in 1969. A new larger courthouse was built across the street in 1995. Preservationists then worked to restore this building and the first thing they removed was the wraparound. After many years a multi million dollar restoration of this building was completed in 2008 and the history museum opened. After you visit the museum be sure to explore the quaint courthouse. The balcony contains exhibits on Florida law and its history. The first floor history museum contains three galleries. The people gallery examines more than 100 people who made contributions to Palm Beach. Some of the exhibits focus on the Seminoles, pioneers, and business leaders in the community. The place gallery focuses on the animals and ecology of Palm Beach. I really enjoyed the Barefoot Mailman exhibit. The Barefoot Mailmen were US postal workers who delivered the mail in the 1850s by walking barefoot on the beach from Palm Beach to Miami. One of the mailmen mysteriously disappeared at the Hillsboro Lighthouse. There is also a gallery for temporary exhibits. The current one is Building Paradise: Addison Mizners Legacy. The exhibit explores architect Addison Mizner whose Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture can be seen throughout Palm Beach and Boca Raton. Its on display until June 29th.In addition to operating the museum the Historical Society also offers many events throughout the year which includes lectures and history tours. You can find a listing of their events on their website. Entrance is free to the museum and you can find meter parking outside. This museum is a historical treasure that everyone should visit and support.
Suzanne was very helpful and encouraged me to listen in on the new guides presentations and walk throughs. The exhibits are lovely to look at and and definitely an historical treasure not only of local history and lore but an up close way to learn how life was lived in this area way back when. With free admission I would absolutely recommend a stroll through history here, questions are welcomed by the staff!!
Its a small museum made out of the old courthouse. They have really neat artifacts from Palm Beach Countys history and the building itself. Bonus: They still have the original tiles on the floor from 1916! Theres also a small gift shop and you can go upstairs to see the courtroom, which is still used for certain events today.
Thorough tour, learned about Palm Beach Countys history and details on building structures. Docent was knowledgeable and personable. Will visit again.
The museum is a great place to learn about Palm Beach County. The latest temporary exhibit is highlighting Addison Mizner. The old courtroom is beautiful and you feel like youve stepped into a bygone era. The docents are knowledgeable. Its free! Treat yourself to a special and singular experience!
Love this place. Our homeschool group did a mache trial here. They are so informative!
It was the 1st time I had been in that courthouse since 1976, and the memories of that time were intense. Thank you for preserving a landmark.
What a fascinating Museum, and its great visiting the old courtroom. Docents are really helpful. I enjoyed the gift shop, too.
This museum BLEW MY MIND. I have fallen in love so hard with everything . From presentation , wording, and diversity . My trip up to Palm County has been me constantly refering back here. I will recommend to everybody that I meet about this museum.
Love the historical displays and photographs and love that it is in the restored 1916 Courthouse. The building is beautiful neo-classical architecture with Roman columns. Wonderful way to learn the history of Palm Beach County!!
This is a hidden gem. There is so much information and culture revealed in this museum. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable. I plan to come back.
Well laid out local museum. It was nice learning about the local history as a transplant. Its small but nice.
Amazingly well kept historic courthouse with all original tile work remaining on the floors! The incomparable woodwork on doors, around doorways and window casings was all stained a deep dark brown. A kind,. welcoming, knowledgeable woman who posses a gentle and friendly no voice welcomes all visitors with a smile. She offers to assist when the newest visitors are looking at the displays around the entrance and front hall. It is quite apparent she greatly enjoys her volunteer role and sharing her wealth of knowledge with everyone she can.
I expected to maybe spend 5 minutes to check it out.. left 2 hours later. The volunteer that gave me a tour was amazing. I learned Soooooo much about Palm Beach! great FREE rainy day venue!
Great museum in a restored century-old courthouse. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
THE Names of every major city in palm beach county has its original origins.
Visits here cost nothing, but you get a lot.Came here expecting to be in and out in 15 minutes. 2 hours later we were leaving. Awesome local shipwreck area that will be there until June, strongly suggest seeing that. The old courtroom and the whole courthouse is stunning. Awesome mosaic tiles, gorgeous windows and staircases. An area that give you all the local history of Palm Beach county was very interesting.100% suggest everyone visit here
Certainly not a whole day worth of exhibits but if you have a morning to spare, there are some interesting pieces of historical significance.
Formed in 1937. On March 15, 2008, they opened the Richard and Pat Johnson Palm Beach County History Museum on the second floor. The Museum finally solved the problem that had prevented the collection from fully serving its critical purpose: to share and showcase the rich history of Palm Beach County and the larger context of Florida’s heritage dating back at least 12,000 years.
Very informative about the history of Palm Beach County and the history of Florida.Plus on the 2nd floor theres a bunch of photographs of Florida natural state.
Wonderful museum and giftshop. Great job preserving history!
Beautiful building and nice collections on the history of PB county.. I was there for the Armed forces day. See pictures. Memorable. Lots of parking. The weekend is better as the streets are very quite and not much traffic.
