Historic Park of Geoje POW Camp - Historical place museum in Guri-si, South Korea
historical place of Korean War
Interesting... Ive been to war museums before, but not to a POW camp museum. Pretty good.
A place to see the sad history of Korea
This place was more interesting than I though. If youre on this island give this place a try. Learn about Korean War, the prisoners and the hardships of war. Try the zipline and let children explore history in an easy way. If you have time (I didnttake the monorail to the top of the mountain for an amazing view.
Very incredible place
There are all history during the Korean War.
Definitely place to see when you are in the City. Great piece of history shown in very interesting way.
Biggest POW during the Korean war. Interesting
Impressive
Not enough information in English, a bit overpriced. Maybe interesting for history fans.
meaningfulUSABritishCanadaTurkeyAustraliaPhilippines(7,420.:112died.16 missing)Thailand (6,426:129 died.5missing). . .appreciating.
The park itself is interesting, but I expected a little bit more of it. And I was hoping it would give a little bit more information about the war as well. And also very disappointing is the fact that most information is only displayed in Korean and only a few signs have the information in English.
Nice, must use the Monorail
This is a decent park/ outdoor museum of the POW camp on Geoje-do that the US Army operated during the Korean War. Most people know nothing about this camp so its a good entry-level introduction to POW operations during the war. Its also built on the site of the original camp with some of the original ruins still on display. This park is a bit run-down and needs a cosmetic facelift but overall worth a trip to learn a bit about this aspect of the Korean War.
You must pay to see nothing. Lots of plastic figures of prisoners. How exciting!
7,000Won for the entry.Memorable place to go.A couple of activities to do.2,000Won for the parking fee
Worth the time to go and check
Good place for family, especially local Korean. Good to know the history of North-South Korea war times, but some of the information is in Korean only. Even videos does not have any subtitles. The zipline was awesome too as not many museum kind of place have this kind of entertainment.
A living evidence of Japanese colonial era.You can also listen friendly explanation from the guides
Love it
This is a place thats worth a visit. You make a walk in the park and see exhibition. Korean war IS important for South Korea 🇰🇷
Any historical value this place holds is washed out by the spectacle of happy, sing-song propaganda music, stuffed animals, and children running about.
Exhibits and displays depicting life as a POW during the Korean war from 1950 to 1953. This POW camp was the largest. Geoje island was chosen as the other of POW camps filled to capacity. There were as many as 165000 POWs during the camps heyday. 7000 won per person entry, 2000 won parking (Oct, 2020).
I visiting during Corona-19 situation.. so some points are not on service. I recommend 4DX! Dont miss it!!
I anticipated a more serious experience, but it wasnt. It felt like I was at an amusement park at times. There was a monorail and zipline experience for anyone who wanted to wait.
Great experience to be at this location. They have a cool zipline too. Was not able to try it but heard a few people scream on the way down.
I was stationed at this POW camp in early 1953. I was there when "Little Switch" and "BG Switch" were taking place . I was.also there when we sent the Pows back to North Korea when the war was over.
Awesome
Compliments the war museum in Seoul to see the POW perspective. Lacks the detail in information you would see at a first rate museum. Worth seeing though.
If you’re interested in War History then visit this place. Not much things to see. War museum is good.
It has been a while since I was in gejedo. It was not this nice before. They did a nice job to make all that displays and make this place really special.
Dont miss the monorail...you fill find the artistically island view from the peak
its terrible. admission is bloody expensive. its 7k won but did not manage facilities. old and smells. contents is very poor and too much old story like 1960s or cold war era. also thats a kind of lie. I thought here is a heritage but I was wrong. there was nothing left at that time. its anti-communism propaganda amusement park. I can not believe that kind of place is existing until now.
IVE BEEN HERE AND ITS GOOD.ITS ALL ABOUT KOREAN HISTORY
Monorail access (online booking recommendedto Gyerongsan Lookout is a must
A profoundly realistic, educational, and respectful depiction of the war. This attraction tactfully navigates the painful national memory of the North Korean invasion, and does not cheapen the dead with gimmicks like tacky monorails, zip lines, and crude dolls posing as absurd, grotesque facsimiles of real human suffering in order to cater to the basest of perverse humors. Wait no, its the opposite of that.
Prisoner of war theme park..... Very bizarre but informative all of the way round. Feels too jovial to represent the sad history that it does but it is nonetheless worthy of an afternoon out. The train going up the mountain doesnt work is torrential rain and is incredibly steep. Enjoyed the park a lot. Definitely recommend it out you are interested in history.
Good
Great historical area
Good places
If you are curious to know about the Korean War, it is good to stop by and watch it. Parking and admission are separate.
A great historical camp. Nice fun for kids with 4D movie included in ticket. Virtual reality is available for 4$. A nice day out
Fantastic place, POW camp is sharing the history of the military prison. Definitely I recommend the monorail.
It is good place to learn about Korean war history.
I went in February so it was cold, and the buildings arent heated. But always good to learn Korean War.
Maybe a little repetitive but nicely set out with English sub titles most of the way. Some interactive displays and some stuff especially for the kids. I visited on a sub freezing day in way off peak season and feel that the 7000 Won was well spent...There is also a zip line type ride and mini roller coaster at additional cost...
So many things that we can learn from this place regarding the history of Korean War. We will discover how POW lived in the camp and what they did for surviving.
I recomendet this museum to visit. We are the people from Poland,we know what is the war.
Im glad we visited here. There has been a lot of effort to put together this look at not just the POW camp here, but some background of the Korean War and the impact of the POW repatriation issue on the negotiations later in the war. Its basic Korean War history 101, but Im pleased to see the young people touring this place. The young need this type of connection to history. I hope many of them are encouraged by their visit to learn more.Well organized with signs in English to help those who dont speak Korean. Well worth the price.
Very interesting place. A lot of multimedia. A history of Korean War shown in a very interesting way/
