Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this historic inn is a 10-minute walk from the Stockman House Museum and 3 miles from the Lime Creek Nature Center.Individually decorated rooms and suites have retro-style furnishings and include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, minifridges and free Wi-Fi. Some feature brass beds, park views, claw-foot tubs, microwaves, pull-out sofas and/or whirlpool tubs.Parking is free. Amenities include a posh restaurant, a stylish bar and a business center, as well as a gym and meeting rooms.
Let me start with the pros; Hotel is very nice, comfortable and quiet. The wood decor is very nice if you like wood everything. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Now the cons; Frank Lloyd Wright must have been a short man because the ceilings are very low. If you are about 6 feet tall or taller, you will have to duck to be able to walk around the lobby. The rest of the ceilings are not much higher. The rooms are very small and it feels a little cramped in there. Internet speed is abhorrently slow to pretty much absent. I hope they fix it soon. Overall, a good stay but I would definitely choose a different place on my next visit.
We were there for an event had a great time. The staff were great
Wonderful stay! A friend and I stayed on our travels and everything was top notch. From customer service to the room 100%wonderful. Keep in mind the hotel is historic so the rooms are on the smaller side. Absolutely beautiful and clean though. I wouldnt hesitate to stay again.
Such a beautiful hotel! I was in from out of town and I heard it was redone and tried the restaurant and the food was great along with the service. I had the charcuterie board and potato rolls, highly recommend. The hotel is beautiful inside so the view is gorgeous to look at as well
The rooms are small, which is to be expected for a motel designed back in 1910. Not a fan that there is a wine fridge vs mini fridge in room. I absolutely love that there is an overhead light since so many hotels do not and that you have complete control over your comfort. The controls for the light honestly took me a while to figure out. No ice machine, but mini bags of ice you can take.Location is wonderful. I explored part of their statues and fun architecture after checking in, ate at their bar, then went out to see their Veterans memorial and more of their tour of statues. Me and coworker were disappointed in the food and we never got checked on once food was delivered. Drink was amazing. It was fun to stay there vs. The standard Holiday Inn we usually stay at. Also helpful to know - we have a 26ft vehicle and they were able to give us a pass to park nearby to ignore the 2hr parking limit
The beauty and history of this hotel cannot be over stated. It is like exploring a secret chamber back in time. There are multiple outdoor terraces, great rooms, sitting rooms, original stained glass and tile work throughout. The restoration is so well done, it is seamless from the original.I have to say, Jim who was hosting the front desk last night was a highlight of the trip.He was so knowledgeable about the history of the hotel and the restoration. He pointed out amazing facts that we would have surely overlooked on our own.Hidden skylights, carpets woven in Egypt, shimmering mortar between the bricks in the ballroom! He was patient with all of our questions and just a fantastic host.As the last remaining Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel in the world, Historic Park Hotel is an absolute must see.
Loved it! All decor refurbished to original Frank Lloyd Wright design.
So much fun exploring the historical hotel. Frank Lloyd Wright designed furniture throughout.
What a great hotel and architectural treasure! So neat to see this. Considering this hotel served as the prototype for Wright’s Imperial Hotel is so great that this has been saved. It’s been nicely restored and the tours are fun. This is the last remaining Wright hotel left in the world.
I absolutely loved staying here. You may know this is the only remaining Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in existence and the architecture is stunning. If you decide to take the tour, which I would fully recommend, youll learn about a long history of architecture, construction, and more! If you want a nice hotel for a vacation in Mason city this would be my pick.
Such an amazing place to stay. Love the hotel itself and the workers are awesome and very welcoming. Brooke and Isaac were a blast at the bar. The room was great and the pool table was fun to use as well. This was our 2nd stay there and hopefully, wont be our last.
Shockingly inexpensive for being able to stay in the only FLW designed hotel still in use. The restoration kept true to the original design and the hotel is stunning. The rooms were very spacious and updated (Frank wouldn’t have minded). Everyone very friendly.
I was really cringing when I heard I was going to be staying here as a lot of FLW properties are falling apart. I was BEYOND impressed with the job they have done to restore this to the crowing jewel it now is for Mason City. Seriously, listen to some live music in lounge, take the one-hour long historic tour, or grab a room for the night. You will LOVE it (even if they do serve Folgers coffee with the Keurig in the rooms, LOL)
Absolute gem! We will never stay anywhere else in Mason City - a historic treasure and a luxurious experience for a very reasonable rate. Heated floors in the bathroom. Amazing. I wish we could have stayed another night. Fantastic location facing the park. Lots of food options nearby. 10/10 recommend!
First dinner at the new Markley and Blythe Retaurant, our 43rd anniversary. Pleasant presentation and savery dishes. This is the halibut steak.
Visited on a business trip/meetings. Unfortunately didnt get to do the full tour, but the building and the historical museum-like ambience were terrific.
Awesome experience. The bartender quiz to me and my wife and made us personalized drinks that were spot on.
What a great historical place to visit. I did the tour and was the only one. So it was a private tour. Well worth a trip. You will never see this anywhere else. Cost was minimal $10. Glad I did the stop.
Fantastic restoration of the last standing Frank Llyod Wright hotel. While still mostly Wrights original design, the hotel boasts modern features (lots of power outlets, large TVs etc...and comfortable rooms.
One of the highlights of my cross country trek. Ive been meaning to come here for years to see the only existing hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I knew that all the extras would be closed, but the hotel and room was still beautiful, and the staff were very friendly. Ill be going back when its warmer and I can do the full tour and sample the restaurant.
We chose the honeymoon suite for our wedding night on 2.22.22 because a date like that absolutely has to be paired with the only Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world. It was the perfect place to experience for the occasion. After the snow and wind storm we had that day the jacuzzi tub felt amazing. The room is spacious and has a very comfortable king bed...the sheets were my favorite. The suite has a gorgeous view of central park from the corner tower. In fact it has so many windows you get a 180· view. The best part of all, it was quiet, private and quaint.
I really liked this hotel! Beautiful on the inside and hotel. I loved the heated bathroom floors. My only complaint is that our rooms windows look like the havent been cleaned in a really long time. Dirty windows are a big pet peave of mine.
This is an American treasure. It is great that they are working hard to preserve the historical significance of this piece of art. If you havent had the privilege to stay here, youre missing out. The attention to detail is stunning and the experience is unique. At a minimum, take a tour and explore this iconic building.
Beautiful hotel! So great to sleep in a piece of art. The night concierge was a bit cold when we checked in . But hey who likes to work at night .The day staff was super nice .
The hotel in beautiful. It is worth the trip! The hotel has been beautifully restored. The pricing was great, (compared to California pricing). We had a suite, with a jacuzzi tub and radiant heated floors. It was very nice during the surprise rain storm we encountered. The most memorable part was our hotel clerk. Ms. Hailey. From our check in, to our tour of the property. Haileys knowledge of the area and the historical significance of the property was very enlightening. The personal time she spent with us and answering our questions, made us want to come back and stay again. We loved the hotel, We love Hailey more. We will be coming back!
The hotel is awesome! It never disappoints. Its so true to Frank Lloyd Wrights vision its just beautiful. The only downside right now is that their lounge and restaurant are closed.
Really neat that was designed by Frank Lloyd Write! I was coming back from a camping trip in Missouri that weekend and decided to stop and check out the house he designed(missed the last tour for the day)& found out the Hotel was only a couple blocks away…so😁then went & looked inside the hotel and check it out. Very ‘clean’ designs on both house/hotel. Nice to be able to walk around/sleep inside a piece of art/history. Maybe I will be able to go find some of his other houses 🤔I would love to have a river or waterfall going through my house!😊
What a Frank Lloyd Wright treasure. The building is beautifully restored. Take the time to do the little tour if youre interested in the building history. Be prepared that it is a historical building built with different accommodation demands from 100 years ago. I also recommend getting a room on the upper floors if youre a light sleeper as the original floors are a bit squeaky.
This historic hotel is beautifully maintained and full of charming nooks and surprises, like a billiards room in the basement and tiny little balconies around. The attention to style details since the recent restoration are impressive, and care was clearly taken to preserve the character of the hotel meticulously. The bed was very, very comfortable and its hands-down the cleanest room Ive ever stayed in. Im excited for my next stay!
We arrived June 25, 2021 for a three-night stay, counting on in-hotel dining and bar, as advertised. “Not so,” we were told, as 1910 Restaurant/Lounge had been shut indefinitely. We had been counting on not having to dine out. Three nights booked, and not a single move to credit anything back. AND, as of today, June 30th, dining is still on the website! 😖👎
Stayed with my wife at the honeymoon suite and it was one of best experiences in my life. Its so beautiful, cozy and welcoming! Also the employees are all awesome. Definitely 5 stars! Check the pictures! 😍
Love this place, beautifully restored, amazing staff and extremely clean. The only downside was bar traffic from midnight to about 2:00 am, so loud on the street with people coming back to their cars. We stayed on a Friday night.
What a gem. The only remaining hotel that Frank Lloyd Wright designed in the heart of downtown Mason City. You will never see anything like this anywhere else. Heated bathroom floors, generous room sizes, matching the old with the new is perfection. Love all the detail. Walking around you feel like you are a part of history. Highly recommend! One of the things I look for the most in a hotel stay is how comfortable the bed is and the quality of the bedding. And I was very impressed.
A great place to visit for fans of history, architecture, and specifically Frank Lloyd Wright. Staff was super friendly, helpful, and prompt. If you have the time and option to thake the historical tour, the details on how the community saved this structure, and the efforts put into the restoration are interesting. You feel like youve stepped back in time somewhat. Most of the modern updates are done with consideration to the original design. Its still a small-town feel, so if youre looking for big city entertainment, you may need to go down the road a ways, but theres enough bars and dining around for the casual traveler. Also, the food at restaurant there is impressive.
Absolutely beautiful hotel with top notch service. The hotel is renovated with love and taste respecting Frank Lloyd Wrights style. Take the tour from the local guides. It was great to hear how the whole community participates in keeping up the beautiful legacy they have in the city. The hotel in itself is worth a visit to Mason City.
They have elegant food and dining. I love there food and the fast and friendly service in the 1910 grille located in the park inn.I stayed in a nicely appointed room at the Historic park Inn over looking the city park. I would highly recommend staying at this nice Frank Lloyd Wright building.
We didn’t have a reservation but they were very accommodating and helpful. Got us checked in quickly and our room was gorgeous! The front desk staff had recommendations for dinner since the dining room was till carry-out only. The hotel is beyond anything I could ever imagine. All of the furnishings, pictures on the walls, lamps are reproductions or originals to FLW. They let us just wander through the floors admiring everything! Our room was so comfortable and the heated floor in the bathroom was a surprise bonus, even in the summer! I highly recommend a stay here if you are a FLW fan or just want to experience a lovely evening or two in a quaint city!
There are so many great features of this hotel but my room, 216, was not one of them. It was small, awkward, had a step up and then down between the sitting area and the bed, and the bed was in such a narrow space that it was not real easy getting to the head of it.There is a desk in the sitting area but no outlet nearby. And the view was of a messy roof with air handling equipment. I hope I didn’t get assigned this room because I asked for the AARP rate. The other areas of the hotel are lovely and I enjoy the park across the street too. And the staff was courteous and helpful.
Cannot say enough how fabulous the HPI is! Worth every penny. We came to the area for the kite festival, and staying at this hotel was the icing on the cake. Every part of this property was exquisite. For those who appreciate detail, you will not be disappointed. I had heard it was a nice hotel but it far surpassed expectations. I cannot believe this gem is sitting in the middle of N Iowa. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and clean. And filled with amazing details you won’t find in other hotels. We got drinks in the basement lounge and loved out bartender. Food was great. We will make trips back to the area just to stay at this hotel.
Cant say enough good things about this place. We stay here multiple times per year when visiting family. Always clean, beautiful architecture, classy feel, and great service. The bar in the basement is swanky & cozy. The beds are comfortable and the coffee is amazing (they have a blend specially made for the hotel). The breakfast scrambler is worth every penny. Its our home away from home.
Stayed here on our wedding night..BIG MISTAKE!! We had a larger corner room that overlooked the park and it was very cramped. The bed was horribly small (felt like a double at bestand the lights were hard to figure out as it was an unlabeled keypad. The lights in the bathroom turned off on my husband when he was in the shower and its a huge step to get into and out of the shower/tub combo. We were exhausted but found we were so uncomfortable we didnt sleep the whole night. Apparently this hotel was all about the design of Frank Lloyd Wright and everything has to have a function but no one thought about comfort in any way. The stairwells are incredibly small and I wonder how any larger person would be able to get through the door and down the stairs if there was a fire. Highly overpriced as our room was around $220 for one night. Will never stay here again!!!!!
Our kids gave us a 2 night stay at the Historic Park Inn for Christmas. We completely messed our reservation up. The manager (Melissa?was so helpful and understanding. Not only did she correct the problem quickly, she was so professional. Its nice to see such good customer service is still around. We cant wait to visit this historic hotel.
Fantastic place, great references to Wright and the history of the place. Staff was also fantastic, dinner in the 1910 room was amazing as were the drinks in the billiard room. Only downside was breakfast, we were in a rush, let the waitress know and she said she could accommodate us ... 25 min later we had to go and they hadnt even started our order, very frustrating. All in all, I would highly recommend this place... Just dont be in a rush at breakfast.
This place was fantastic. The look and feel of the hotel made me unreasonably happy. After checking in, I just wandered around and explored the public spaces with my camera, which was really entertaining. Of course, my room was incredibly comfortable, too, and I spent several hours relaxing on the sofa and working at the desk before I checked out. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Ill absolutely come back, especially when Im traveling for business.
Second time we stayed here in the last couple of years. Love the uniqueness of every room and the feeling you are taking a step back in time. The rooms have all the amenities but with the lower ceilings and old school windows, trim and woodwork make it feel different from standard hotels. Love the speak-easy type bar in the basement. Always seems like th there is great drinks and good conversation every time we go. Great place to stay when in Mason City.
Awesome atmosphere to grab a drink after work or on the weekends. Service is always top notch. Cozy atmosphere true to the Frank Lloyd Wright style. Perfect place for a drink and casual conversation. The rooms are pretty small but very unique and clean. On site restaurant is mind-blowingly good.
Lovely, comfy, roomy, and so, so charming! This beautifully restored Frank Lloyd Wright original hotel is a must see! It’s worth it to book a room and spend the night to soak in the full experience of its 1910 charm. The lobby invites you in to a contracted space with its low ceiling and warm wood tones. Walk through the doors to to lounge behind the front desk and feel the release as the space opens to a high ceiling and beautiful ‘skylight’—most of the stained glass pieces are original. Our room was on a corner so we had two walls covered in windows. My only small criticism is the windows were dirty. The king bed was comfy. The huge bathroom was clean and don’t forget about the light switch over the shower. Sign up for the weekend tour to get a look at all the non-public spaces. Free parking is included in your stay—the front desk gives you a tag to place in your car to park in the lot across the street in front of the park. Read Living Frank by Nancy Horan for a glimpse into the architect who designed this beautiful space.
What a gorgeous piece of history. The Historic Park Inn is a Frank Lloyd Wright hotel, beautifully restored with much of its original woodwork and glass. Even the mezzanine, which holds an auto playing piano was restored, a feature that was removed shortly after the hotel first opened. The room we stayed in was very comfortable. The only complaint is that the restaurant was closed for the holiday weekend. Still, well worth the stay.
A wonderful place to stay! I loved everything about its historical charm right on the town square. I was thrilled that it was Frank Lloyd Wright design. Our room was very clean and the bed was cozy & comfortable! Very hospitable staff especially Tyler who checked us in. I dont think Ive ever met a friendlier or more courteous hotel employee! I will be back!
We asked for a queen room with a view and the room is gorgeous! We were just going to stay one night, but decided to stay a second and we moved to a different room, which was even better than the first. There is a safe and a coffee maker in the rooms, as well as really high quality TVs (weve found that some nice hotels have low quality). Weve stayed in historic hotels in other cities and they havent been restored nearly as well as Historic Park Inn. The doors are solid wood. There are little open patios off of common areas too. I highly recommend staying here!
