Its a small castle that has been rebuilt which is quite new inside. But its easy to get up and down the stairs. It has a nice view of the city from the top of the castle 🏯!

Hiroshima Castle ( Hiroshima-jō), sometimes called Carp Castle  is a castle in Hiroshima, Japan that was the home of the daimyō , a feudal lord, of the Hiroshima han. The castle was originally constructed in the 1590s, but was destroyed by the atomic bombing on August 6, 1945. The castle was rebuilt in 1958, a replica of the original that now serves as a museum of Hiroshimas history before World War II.

Great museum inside the main castle tower. I especially liked the bottom floor with history on the settlement of the city. Really well done and great English signage. The higher you go in the castle, the less English signage there is, but the bottom floor is such a rich experience that you dont mind. Its really nice to look out on the city from the top of the tower. I also really enjoyed the reconstructed gate building on the other side of the moat, which was free to enter and also had very good English signage explaining the use and construction of this important building of the castle compound.

Beautifully restored castle, be sure to also visit the ruins and walk around the moat where you can see a tree that survived the bombing.

Surprised how good of museum inside of castle explaining the history of Hiroshima before the war and the amazing rebuild of the castle after it was completely destroyed from the blast of the atomic bomb. Really amazing water around the castle full of really large Koi. I like the fact they didnt completely rebuild the site after the war and actually left some war buildings on site as it was part of the history of the castle.

Thought the history was great buy I wish when it was restored it was a little more authentic inside. I know its our fault but still wish I could have seen it.

I get that many of these old castles needed to be rebuilt for a variety of reasons, but... like Osaka-jo did it really need to be rebuilt like a 21st century museum on the inside? Neat to visit, but youre visiting a museum where a castle was and not really a castle anymore I feel.

Beautiful castle detailing it’s rich history on every floor. Top floor had a viewing area which compared to Osaka castle felt a bit lackluster. Would recommend going nonetheless if you’re in the city.

The grounds are free to enter, and plenty of space to linger. There is a small entry fee for the castle itself, which is worth the visit. On your way up to the top, there is alot of historical objects and history to read about. Once getting to the top, there Is a great view of the city surrounding.

Great park and must see location in downtown Hiroshima. The reconstructed castle, the large shinto shrine, the walk through the trees. Its an amazing experience. Any time of year it is impressive. There are often seasonal festivals and events taking place. There are many places to sit and relax. When the trees bloom it is truly beautiful. In the spring it is refreshing to sit and listen to wind in the trees. It is free to walk around the park. Lots of restrooms, parking on site or nearby. Easy to reach via hiroshima streetcar. Must see if in hiroshima for a visit.

Special Note, on the top floor you could make a keychain with an automated machine with your name imprinted on its gold colored exterior, the chain costs about ¥700 and the gold colored coin that goes into the chain costs about ¥300.For castle enthusiasts you might consider it a pity that the castle that stands tall today is not the original but its reconstructed replica, just like its peer in Osaka, however, it still does feel like a genuinely ancient castle asides the modern interior and emergency mechanisms plus reinforcements. Today it serves has a historical icon of the city and a reminder of what was and the perseverance that has maintained the importance of this place and will continue to do so. It costs ¥370 for adults to enter with SHOES.

The castle is a reconstruction. Yet it offers a beautiful sight and a great museum with some interactive displays. Walk around the moat to get a better view of the castle walls and main keep.

The reconstructed Hiroshima Castle is definitely worth visiting while you are stopping by the city. It costs ¥370 to enter and currently serves as a historical museum of Hiroshima before the atomic bomb was dropped. If you make it all the way to the top you get some really nice scenic views of the city. I went right before cherry blossom season and you can see some of the blossoms were just beginning to sprout.

Had a little extra time before taking my train home, so I stopped by here for a quick visit.Ot is free to visit the grounds, but you have to pay a small fee to visit the museum indoors. The museum was decent, although not all of the descriptions were translated into English. The sword collection was very interesting, and the view from the top was nice (would have taken some photos of the swords, but I realized halfway through my visit that I wasnt supposed to be taking photos, oops!).Overall, the experience was nice but Id only recommend it if you have a little bit of extra time on your hands.

Especially beautiful in Spring when the castle and moat-side path are decorated by blossoming Sakura 🌸 cherry-blossom trees in late March. Many people take a leisurely picnic under the flowering trees looking over the water to the beautiful wooden castle. This Hiroshima castle is called the Carp castle and has been rebuilt many times since it was originally built due to leadership rivalries, fires as well as the Atomic bomb blast of 8/6/1945.The castle, most, parks, walkways and picnic areas are a wonderful asset of Hiroshima city. Great for daily exercise, events and leisurely walks. There are surviving trees around the moat worth seeking out (look for the information card attached to the trunk). There are also surviving ruins of the blast which have interest as an important aspect of Hiroshimas legacy. The moat has carp fish and turtles in it. There is a sightseeing boat that can be booked to go around the moat. Theres a small playground at the back side (opposite the city center).

It’s the reconstruction of the original castle that was destroyed in the WW-II, and now serves as historical museum. It has 5 floors with no elevator. 1st to 4th floor are the exhibition area where you can see a lot of samurai’s swords and shields as well as the history of the castle. The top floor provides the view of the city. The entrance fee is only ¥370 and if you are a student you can enter for free, simply show your student ID. It’s not a big museum but the surrounding area is actually pretty nice to have a serene walk.(p.s. visited on summer 2020)

Really cool castle that presents the history of the area. Not really a must see, as the outside is more impressive than the inside. But really relaxing place if you have extra time to walk around and explore.Note: Visited prior to Covid, so things may be different.

Small area with an exception. The castle area is surrounded by a water body and the fish swimming around is worth watching. I havent seen such a habitat of aquarium fish in a public area. Scroll my attached snaps to have a glimpse of it. The castle is small and wont take much time to wrap up!!

** My visit was at the height of COVID-19. The castle was closed to visitors.(+Beautiful grounds, well-landscaped(+Definitely worth a visit and dont forget to stroll along the moat.(+Great location for pictures(+Even though its in the heart of the city, it has a very peaceful, quiet feel to it.(+Lots of "attractions" to see besides the actual castle: moat, flower beds, landscaping, layout ,etc.(- Unable to comment on actual castle.

Good historical castle to visit and also inexpensive. Different floors have different displays with English information provided. A website is recommended to access audio descriptions of some of their displays, as well. Very interesting array of samurai swords that are in glass cases. They even have one that visitors are allowed to handle to have a feel of its weight in one’s hands. One can try on some period costumes and have fun photos taken for free. Excellent view of surrounding area at the top floor.

I was attending this place for free because I’m a university student here in Japan. Usually it costs 370 yen for adult admission fee. There is no elevator here so you have to go by stairs to the top which is 5 floors. Each floor has many historical exhibitions. You can experience the katana (Japanese Samurai sword). Today they also held event of All Japanese Castle. When we made it on the top, it was really nice view with fresh air. Around the castle is the place known for old Japanese military place. Good place for walking and sitting near the lake. There are many fish and turtles. We went there for 3 times during our leisure in Hiroshima.

Enjoyed the walk through the garden. Was a bit underwhelmed by this castle but after walking through the Peace Museum and memorial earlier nothing else felt real for the rest of the day. It was however therapeutic to walk and process strong feelings and thoughts.

A great little escape from the city. The walk from the entrance leading to the castle is great, with a ton of trees. The castle walls were quite fascinating. Needless to say, the castle itself was magnificent. One of the pros of this place is there is no fees up until the castle itself, and thats if you want to go in and up the castle. Definitely a place to be checked out if you are in the area.

If you are interested in Japanese history or historical buildings I doubt youll ever tire of seeing edifices like Hiroshima Castle. The grounds are easy to navigate with the castle being tucked away in a corner. There is also the option to take a boat ride around its moat. The castle has a museum inside its walls that is spread over four of its five floors, the fifth floor being reserved for external views of Hiroshima.

Another very majestic, awesome and ancient castle. Very well maintained castle with its architectural design intact and good displays of many interesting old relics like samurai wears, swords etc. Great to have information translated in English. However, as in a castle, many floors are expected ...but then, the view from the top is fantastic. Worth all the climb!

Something to see but not to impressive. The castle was destroyed in WWII so when they rebuilt it the inside was completely modernized and was more of a shop than anything. Some cool art pieces... the view from the top is the best part but you’re basically looking at the city. There are better places to spend time in Hiroshima.

The castle grounds are quite historic but there are limited English translations so the significance of some of the structures is a mystery to me.The castle itself is a rebuild three or four times over but that doesn’t take away from the significance of the structure and its history. You will NOT be allowed to take pictures of many of the exhibits so if you’re into that sort of thing, temper your expectations. English translations end around the third floor if I recall correctly, which is where some of the really neat things are. Armor, swords, and several documents.I can’t recall the entry fee but like most Japanese museums it couldn’t have been more than $10 USD. The view from the top of the tower is worth the price of admission though. The history of the castle is really interesting as well and at least that part has English translations.Take some time wandering around the grounds. There are a couple pretty neat discoveries. There is a shrine near the castle too so there is an extra experience if you want that. The moats are pretty cool with a ton of koi fish cruising around. They are very colorful and really quite beautiful to watch.

The gardens and shrine on the outside are beautiful.I was somehow disappointed because the inside of the castle its a museum. There are some nice maps and information about how people lived there and how they defended it. But many things were only in Japanese, so I lost interest pretty quick. The top floor has a nice observatory-like view.I dont remember seeing a wheelchair entrance to the castle itself.

A beautiful castle filled with genuine artifacts related to samurai and castle specific history bound to leave you in awe of Japanese style, history, and ingenuity.Much like other castles in Japan, the interior is modern and a enourmous contrast to the exterior of the castle, however, it is still a fantastic place to visit for anyone interested in Japanese history, samurai swords and armour, or even just to take some beautiful photos.

Easily access, we took the city tour bus and it stopped close to walking distance of the castle. It was rebuilt of course since almost nothing remained standing against the "bomb". The castle park is a nice place to visit during cherry blossoms and fall season as well. We were there during low season and we enjoyed touring in the park. Quiet and scenic.

Obviously, this castle was rebuilt after the war. There are nice park grounds and a temple around the castle, a bit of serenity. Walk around and take some photos of a pretty impressive structure. However, unless you like concrete museums, and broken roof tiles are your thing, think twice about going in. There is 0 percent atmosphere as to what the castle was like historically. And the view from the top level was pretty un inspiring.

Nice place to visit in Hiroshima. Easy to find this castle. This castle tower is a National treasure from year 193I. This castle destroyed by atomic bomb. This castle renovated in 1958. In 1989 the inside was restored. Today, it has turned into a history museum featuring Samurai culture.

The castle itself is just one building with 5 floors. Lots of things to see but no photos allowed. At the top floor is a nice spot to view the vicinity and to get a nice souvenir of coin/keychain where you can engrave your name. The lowest floor has an area where you can try to don costumes/clothes belonging to the era.

It was beautifully rebuilt and has spectacular views of the city. It is very touristy and most of the descriptions are in Japanese, but it is worth the visit if you have the time. There are lots of steps so plan to wear comfortable shoes. There are also display items for kids of all ages, including samurai armor that can be worn for a photo.

The castle area feels like you are wandering around a park. You have the towers on one side and the shrine on the other. The remnants of the imperial head quarters is at the base of the castle. It is quite a peaceful place to walk around.
