Excellent service and great bar. Would love to go back for the live music on a vibey night.

Nice atmosphere and vibe.Sadly both of my fav drinks werent made properly.- Espresso Martini was rather boring. Boring taste and looks sad. The coffee part tasted like instant/artificial coffee... Would be nice if it was real coffee. The alcohol part was not strong enough to qualify for a real drink.- Old fashioned is too sweet, they used syrup instead of crushed sugar.The orange was nice and fragrant, so somewhat saved the drink on the fragrant part.Unfortunately, the whiskey was drowned by the syrup, they may as well have used Woodstock.

Lovely bar, aesthetically pleasing, dim lighting, nice drinks, very sensual vibe. Nick was very knowledge about drinks and was great to talk to, amazing service from him and again great drinks. would highly recommend! nice view of garima place as well.

Have tried few cocktails and they are soo good and would definitely recommend this place and would love to go again when I visit Canberra

Really good cocktail bar, just a little small and hard to get a seat on the weekend. My advice for any cocktail bar is to let the bartender fix you something custom. One of their creations. If theyre a reputable bar then they will have plenty of experience and expertise to make something great.Hippo Co made me a custom cocktail with who knows what in it but it was delightful.

Small bar with great cocktails and friendly staff. The entrance made it a little hard to find - yes, you do need to open the black door that looks like a service door!

Fantastic, fantastic place!!! bartender was great, personable and kind. The interior was great, and in a great location. Central and you would barely know it is there unless you were looking for it.

Ive been here before and think of it as a whisky bar. The menu lists no whisks and the lighting is such I couldnt read any at the bar. All I wanted was a Balvenie but felt so bummed

Fabulous find! This place is awesome. Friendly and attentive staff. Magnificent old fashioned and super vibe and atmosphere. A must stop if you are in Canberra and craving a sophisticated but not pretentious evening.

Its funny that this cocktail bar doesnt have Cosmopolitan. They offer to make a replacement that has a taste of a peach juice.

Cool little whiskey bar upstairs with moody lighting and a huge range of whiskies. Also cocktails, beers and wines and also toasties if you’re snacky.

The lack of Stars in my review is nothing to do with the venueIn fact Im going to Upgrade my review to a Four star. Excellent bar service. Lovely band, musically pleasing. Pretty rude crowd yabbering all the while the performers were playing and singing. A bit dark for this little black duck, but thats me being picky, Im sure there are many that like it like that.

Little cocktail bar on the balcony floor, with good vibes. The staff were friendly and made room for us even without a booking. But I would recommend booking for peak hours. Strong but elegant tasting cocktails. Thank you.

Great cocktails and wide range of exceptional Whisky. Some of these attract a high price, but thats the product. Cocktails are reasonably priced. Staff are friendly, helpful and work fast.

Canberra’s best speakeasy. Hippo staff really know how to mix a good drink, so this has long been my favourite cocktail bar in the city. If you time it right, they also do live jazz through the week.

Fantastic little bar. Eamon was really welcoming, super knowledgeable and created some seriously good cocktails. The whisky selection is huge with some very special choices on offer. The small selection of wine is delicious with a great mix of local drops and a few internationals.We had a great time and if highly recommend it.Bit tricky to find... Upstairs, but seriously worth it.

Amazing staff and atmosphere. We went for cocktails after dinner and had an Old Smoke, Old fashioned, Amygdyla Highjack, The Herbalist, and Mr Perfectly fine.All were excellent and watching the Herbalist being made is quiet a show :)Eamon was very knowledgeable and fantastic mixologist and Courtney, Ben, and Nick always make us feel welcome here. Will definitely be back.

The place has a funky and stylish feel, with over 200 whiskies to try, and an awesome cocktail range. The staff are friendly, but also masters of their craft. This place is a big YES for me. Do yourself a favour and drop in next time you’re in town.

Great whisky bar. A lot of time i find cocktails overpriced and feel i could make myself better. But these cocktails were some of thr best i have had. Nice atmosphere upstairs from a famous Chinese restaurant (weird, yes). Friendy and chatty bar staff. Only negative is a hangover the following day but cannot blame staff for that :-)

Hippo Co has the best cocktails and a very extensive whiskey list. The atmosphere feels really cosy and the bar staff have always been friendly and inviting every time Ive visited. Definitely going to visit more often!

I love everything about this place. The intimate vibe, incredible and vast range of drinks and the relaxed tunes as you look out over the square.

Love the comical sign you find half way up the staircase, as you reach the top floor you are welcomed by friendly staff. The open floor rustic decore creates a saloon style setting, as we walked to the bar we were instantly in awe of the overwhelming variety of alcohol perched high above us. We enjoyed great banter with the bartenders as we watched them make our delightful cocktails, I enjoyed all the background stories about each bottle and cocktail. This was such a pleasurable experince. I am so glad we decided to walk in one Saturday night.

My boyfriend and I got to the bar early enough so we got a table without having to book but the place quickly filled up (so we were glad we were earlybut you can understand why. The staff was lovely, the cocktails and whisky, delicious and the room was warm and comfortable. Next time we are in Canberra, we will be back

The friendly staff are always available to have a chat about about their faviourite Whiskey or offer suggestions on something you can try.Not a Whiskey drinker? No problem they also have a range of wines and cocktails to choose from and a range of food to snack on if you are looking for something to eat.

A Great Selection Of Whisk(e)y! I mean- Id been hunting for STARWARD (Port Melbourne, Australian madefor a long time, and Hippo Co not only had it, but had a selection of them at the bar. Great vibes, wonderful live music. I gotta hit up this place more often!

Great venue with a wonderful atmosphere and an outstanding whiskey selection. Barman took great pride in helping me find the perfect whiskey and knew his subject. Fantastic music. Friendly people and finally i have found somewhere "real" in the city of Canberra!

The best whisky bar in Canberra. Australia doesnt have much of a whisky culture, so it seemed like most other patrons were doing beer/cocktails/wine on a Saturday night, but they have a legit Scotch and whisky selection. They got the American-style whisky bar vibe right.

I was out on Saturday night with a couple of girlfriends, after looking at the menu for a couple of minutes or so we asked for a recommendation (I know, we are those kinds of people), we asked for something that wasnt sickly sweet and had a bit of lemon flavor to it, the bartender then picked up the menu and had another look (because we didnt already just do that..?And recommended something that she described as "a bit on the sweet side but still tangy". After paying $32 for these two cocktails, having a sip and deciding not to tip, we sat down and tried to drink them, we bought a can of coke, to dilute it a little, alas we couldnt finish them.Two stars because the venue is always clean

Great vibe. If you in to whisky they have a big variety. Cocktails are also good, but I just wish they didn’t serve my in a peasants mug.

This is a neat bar in Canberra with some very discerning scotches. Live bands that play there are very good

This place was at the top of my must see venues in Canberra. I thought I knew my whiskeys but these guys were like the yoda of whiskey conosusers.... Brilliant. Will be definitely going back next time were down...

A great place to start the night with a few cocktails. It has a great selection of cocktails and others... Im always amazed at how many bottles of alcohol are above the bar. And the decor is perfect for a nice quite night to a party nighty. And they have a picture of dolly parton on the wall...

Amazing atmosphere, fantastic selection of scotch. Certainly not cheap but nor should it be. Great place to grab a couple of friends or a date and have some nice glasses of whisky or a cocktail. Wouldnt recommend a large group though especially if you didnt book.Staff were lovely too.

Hippo is an absolute must for any time we visit Canberra. Ill be up-front with you, I have rose-coloured glasses when it comes to this place.This is one of those whisk(e)y bars that you wish was up the road from you but are glad it isnt or youd spend your life here.The range is very well curated and the bar staff know each and every one of them. If you can tell them what you want, theyll pour you a drink youll like. Weve found so many gems thanks to the help from the staff.Dont like the strong stuff? Thats cool, their cocktail range is as genuine as youre going to get in an Aussie bar. By that I mean, its not just a couple of generic ingredients with a filler substance; these are well-thought and carefully made drinks that taste great. They change the range seasonally so be sure to check what the staff favourite is.Speaking of whom, the staff are what makes this place turn. Theyre friendly and dont give a flying proverbial what you look like so long as youre there for a good time. If youre nice to them, theyll treat you right. That includes the bouncer out the front, who Ive never had a problem with.Even if youre still a little unsure, just swing by here and have a drink and enjoy being somewhere unique to the usual night-scene.
