Airy haunt presenting exotic Tibetan plates plus Himalayan beer & wine in an exposed-brick backdrop.
Sadly, it was quite disappointing. Starting from their basic tikka masala to their noodles and their momos. They were either bland, dry or over seasoned. One of the worst tikka masala I’ve ever tasted. The Tibetan noodles..tasted like they used ketchup to flavor—not joking. Their “famous” momos tasted like store bought dumplings. Will never go back here again.
Just not up to par with other Indian places I have been to. Less flavor - and I think they forgot to add any spiciness - i doctored it up at home and it did help. The chicken also to me seemed re-heated - the texture was off.
Ordered Chicken Tikka, Vindaloo and garlic naan. Everything was awful. The food, service speed, and especially the manager (assuming based on one of the staffs rude behavior. She was at the bar when we went in for dinner.)We had undercooked chicken, raw potatoes in vindaloo (which shouldnt even have them in the first place). When asked about potatoes in vindaloo, the reply was "This is American style. If you dont like it you can leave it". This comes moments after we witness a disgruntled couple being forced to pay as they were leaving after waiting for food for a long time. Must be at least 30 minutes since thats how long we were just waiting to be seated. Our own order took 45 minutes to arrive. The naan was just a lump of baked flavorless flour.I cannot state enough how terrible this place is. Just stay away.
My husband and I were craving a meal packed with flavor and that’s what you’ll get here! The restaurant was packed and for good reason! The meals are worth the wait and everyone around us were raving about the food. The next time we’re in Durango, we’ll be back!
One of my favorite places in Durango! Great service, great food. Awesome vibes!
Very authentic food. The staff is all originally from Tibet (family run). Not very good English but they make up for that in the food. Prices were very cheap for what we got. One of the best restaurants I ate at in a long time. Must go!!!
Very bad food. If you have tried nepalese food then you should not come here. The basic mo-mo are bad. I cant even speak about the rest of the dishes we had. The chicken seemed like it is dry and tough. Bad bad bad
We pulled in maybe 45 minutes before closing. The staff was really friendly & insightful. Our food came out in now time. I or5the curry lamb & my sister ordered the Saag chicken. Both dishes was equally delicious! I would definitely dine again!
I had really high hopes and wanted to like Himalayan Kitchen. The staff were very welcoming and accommodated the four of us on a busy Friday evening. We ordered Momos which definitely tasted like they came from a frozen package. The curries we ordered tasted good but naan left a lot to be desired. I would not come back for another meal.
Combo lunch special and Nepalese Daal Bhat - fun presentation and delicious spices. Iced Chai was balanced to perfection.
This is what I miss most about Durango. If I could eat here everyday, I would. Momo, Himalayan chow chow, mango lassi, cheese naan… Everything here is worth every single penny, and if I could bring it back to Chicago with me, I would. If you visit Durango, THIS is the place you need to eat. The staff are so friendly, the food is so delicious, and whether you eat for lunch or dinner, you can guarantee to be full by the time you leave. The Himalayan Kitchen is the best restaurant in Durango if you ask me.
Were visiting Durango and this restaurant sounded interesting. Walk in and youre hit with amazing aromas. Makes you even hungrier. Lots of choices from the menu. We started off with chicken dumplings. Wherever we get dumplings, we usually get a soy sauce based dip, but their dip is curry based. It wasnt very spicy and it was good. We both ordered Tikka Masala as our entrees. It was great! Rice was cooked just right. Naan bread...just love naan bread. Should have gotten more to go. Staff was very friendly. After dinner, we enjoyed the sunset. Just beautiful. Highly recommended this restaurant.
Absolutely fantastic! Food service etc it was amazing! Definitely worth it! Thank you for a great dining experience!
Went 2 days in a row. First day, everything was delicious-so much flavor. Second day, opposite. Service is very slow and not rushed.
My friend and I enjoyed lots of good food while vacationing recently in Durango and I think this was the best lunch Ive ever had. Our server made some great recommendations and I decided on the vegetable curry. Soooo delicious. My friend enjoyed her lunch, too, and we shared two orders of flatbread because one just wasnt enough.Beautiful and historic building, great service, wonderful food. Thank you!
I ordered their Dal Vat Vegetarian iteam which includes I cup lentil soup (Dal), 2 small bowls of different vegetables, 1 small bowl of garden salad, raita, 1 bowl kheer ( you can get gulabjamun instead), 1 bowl rice (Vatand a big nun. Though we came just 45 minutes before their clousre, the food was very fresh and delicious. The staffs appeared very kind and helpful. It was a nice and clean restaurant
Phenomenal, tender yak, & everything was fantastic!
Delicious food and great service, would definitely recommend,
The staff was super friendly the whole time, even when we asked to split the check. On top of that, all of the food was delicious. Some of the best saag Ive ever had!! The lunch special is a great deal as well!
Great food, Great service. Everything Ive tried so far is delicious, filling, and decently priced. My go to recommendation
We had a great dinner here after a day of hiking. We shared Mo-Mo as a starter, and Yak Korma and a lamb Nepalese Daal Bhat. We ended up with leftovers because it was too much food, but it was all delicious! Forgot to take a photo before we started eating because it smelled (and tastedso good. The service was amazing too. Highly recommend!
This is literally the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. I’m not exaggerating. INCREDIBLE FOOD. Get the Korma, it’s the perfect creamy curry, UNBELIEVABLE. Get the mustang coffee!!!!! YUM! Great service and atmosphere too, and not too expensive at all!!! :))five million stars
Meh. After days and days of burgers and fries, we came here for something different, and based on the positive reviews. Definitely had better Nepalese/Indian/Tibetan whatever elsewhere. Tikka masala was very bland, naan was bland, the traditional Tibetan bbq (marinated chickenwas bland, etc. Still, it was survivable, and our bellies are full. But what bothered me the most as usual was the inconsistent service, no one cleared our table when we were clearly finished and sat obviously staring around for quite a while.. Other tables were served, cleared, helped, and for some reason they just ignored us. Until I finally just asked for the check. It’s a nice change of pace from the usual options, but I wouldn’t go back.
This food was so exceptional I forgot to take pictures. We had the samosas. the best i’ve ever had. super flaky and not too spicy and that mint is completely different from any i’ve had and an Indian restaurant. Loved it. Also had garlic naan & cheese naan. The Entrees were Chicken Tikki masala. The Tikki was perfect and exactly what my girlfriend needed to get her to try something other than Butter chicken. My Chicken Korma was perfect. Only thing I needed was some heat, but that was my fault because i was trying to keep it mild so the girlfriend would try it.If you love Indian food, you don’t want to miss this place. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 9.5/10
Personally, did not like it. As a vegetarian this is not the place for you. Wanting authentic Indian/Nepalese food, this restaurant did not meet our expectations. The food was bland but tolerable.
I was craving some Indian/Nepalese food and Himalayan Kitchen looked like the perfect spot. I placed a carry out order for Yak Korma and Dhopzi and both of them were delicious. The portion size was perfect and given the food type it was priced reasonably. Giving it 4 stars only because there was a confusion with my order and I had to wait extra while it was being sorted out.
No No No…… not for Indian food whatsoever!! The kebabs we ordered were probably stale and chewy. Did not enjoy anything we ordered, biryani was a pulao, momos were surprisingly so bad!! Terrible experience, will never go ack and would never recommend anyone to go here, also this place expensive especially for the kind of food they serve.
Deserves zero star for the food we just had. Had ordered- vegetable momos, mix platter non veg, veg biryani and gulab jamun. All of the items were bad. Biryani was pulao , non veg platter had improperly cooked meat and was tasteless and gulab jamun a total failure. Overall trash food. Not worth trying if you are looking for Nepalese/Himalayan/Indian cuisine.
If I could give 0 star and tell how terrible our experience was I would do that. Terrible food, and most probably stale because I fell sick the night after the dinner. They are fooling Americans calling it Indian cuisine, Indian food doesn’t taste so bad. Worst experience in food during our trip to Colorado. We had done take out, otherwise I would’ve never paid for such kind of food.
Food and service were exemplary! Staff was very friendly! We made a wonderful connection with our waiter Tsewang from Nepal!
Great atmosphere. Enjoyable visit. We ordered the Chicken Makhani and Yak Korma. Both were delicious!
Beautiful restaurant with tasty food, good service and friendly staff.
Not enough stars! This place is excellent! We had lamb korma and lamb vindaloo. The vindaloo was especially delicious. Good sized portions and very filling.Well definitely return next time were in the area. Highly recommend!
Absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed the Tibetan specialities here and especially recommend the Yak dishes. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was homey, and we will definitely be back. Recommend 100%!Disfruta / Enjoy! 💯 🔥 🏔 😎
Friendly staff and delicious food. The pot of Himalayan spice wine is so good. Warms your tummy. The Yak meatballs were good. Be prepared to wait a bit while they prepare your food. Good things come to those who wait! Next time we go, we will get the mixed grilled platter. It looked and smelled so good. *Update* Been back a few more times and have not been disappointed. The Mixed Grill platter really is awesome. 👌 👌 👌
We ordered yak korma, sherpa’s soup, moo-yo, and mango lassi. We took some soup to-go which was our favorite dish! Dishes are family style for the most part. It was a unique experience and can’t be found in many places. Highly recommend
We were visiting Durango ,had lunch from here on Christmas Day. Great hospitality and food was very yumm.We loved the experience
We had Sankhuwa machha, Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan. Food was great. However, wait time for food was over 35mins, which I wouldnt recommend if you are in a hurry.
A bit slow to get started. Over 5 minutes of waiting for our server before I went to the bar to get my own drinks. I was promptly sent back to my seat with a waiter following me. He took our drink order. Another 5-6 minutes before I finally called over a bus boy to get someone to bring our drinks. Mind you, not even a glass of water at this point. After making a minor scene, the service improved dramatically. Rest of meal and service was wonderful. The food is very much prepared with love. Will give another chance.
We came during prime time dinner hour on a Wednesday and only waited about 10min for 2 people. Vegan food was awesome and great flavors on both dishes! Would def come back!
Everything that we got was amazing. The food was very flavorful, and I cant say anything was was blad or that I would not get again. I recommend if you are in the area.
Any Indian thinking this place serves Indian food- you will be mistaken… extremely poor service- had to wait for an hour’s before waiters cafe to the table to ask if we needed something to drink… the prices are extremely high. I would not go back there.. the kebabs were extremely hard to chew into.. the workers there seemed overwhelmed and understaffed..
The food is amazing! This place has a very authentic and peaceful ambiance. The wait staff are very helpful and consciences.
I wish there was a 0 star here. This was one of the worst experience ever. It took was 40 mins to get a seating and after that the service was so slow that it took us another 90 minutes just to get the food. The worst part is that the food was completely pale and cold, had no taste and was no where close to any indian food ive ever had. To top it off, when we mentioned this to the server he just rudely wrote it off and said I did not make that food so dont tell me. No discount was given nor did they apologize for the food they served. REALLY BAD!!
Good food at a good price. I definitely recommend the chicken curry, it was flavorful without being too spicy, though you can make it as spicy as you like, and unlike most curries the chicken was tender thigh meat
Napali/Nepalese cuisine. Light spices, full flavor without the heat. Dont get me wrong...I love hot spices, but my wife doesnt. This place is very enjoyable.
Awesome! Lunch buffet for $11.99? I thought I was dreaming! Super healthy and tasty Indian-ish food. Clean, roomie and right in the heart of Durango.I ll be back!
Lived in Durango, moved and came to visit, hoping our favorite restaurant in town was still here. It is, and is as excellent as ever! Great buffet, nice staff. This place is legit! Many vegetarian options. Clean and comfortable. Owned and run by Nepalese.
Great place for Indian and Nepalese dish. Shrimp korma and shrimp biriyani is definitely recommended. Weekends are busy. So plan ahead and have some time handy.
To have Indian food in a small town was totally unexpected. Food is fresh but is having Nepali touch and they put lot of garlic in their curries like daal. Location is great and it is in heart of downtown.Ambience and service is really good. In sweet dish, rasmalai is good but gulaab jamun should be definitely skipped
