The museum was informative and had nice displays. It was small, but really doesn’t need to be larger for what it is. My only problem with it was the gift shop sold souvenirs for the gay bar on the bottom level of the complex. It was pretty upsetting to get the end of a culture museum, and as my children were browsing the gift shop, they had large graphic posters and other items of different condoms. It was not like kids seeing condoms for sale in little boxes at 7. It was much more graphic. What in the world does that have to do with hill tribe people? Can’t the restaurant sell its own items? If I wanted to expose my children to that, I would have taken them downstairs.

This is an old museum but still contains some interesting information and artifacts. Wish we could have seen the video; that would have been interesting as well.

Museum looks like it was last touched in 2000. Articles are out of date. Exhibits are not protected. Labels and descriptions are repeated throughout. There are also signs saying dont walk through a spirit gate, but part of the museum is through a mock spirit gate. Dont visit human zoos, but we have a tour where you can see hilltribe members. Dont buy hilltribe items, but our gift shop sells hilltribe items (as explained by staff). It sends a very conflicting message and I think some of it is unethical...

The place is informative on the hill tribes and is a must do before setting out on a hill tribe trek. It is unfortunate the information has not been updated in the last decade

Highly recommend. It give an extensive review/history of the opium trade and how, sadly, the west basically destroyed countries through forced trade. Additionally, the cultural traditions of tribes is well explained, but there is a underlying understanding that these tribes come to Thailand through "business opportunities" that basically exploit them so that their children can have a slightly better life.

For 50 baht, this very small museum is very good value. Make sure you ask one of the staff about watching the video that is set up is a small viewing area. Be prepared to spend a lot of time reading the vast assortment of articles that cover the hilltribe cultures and dispels some of the myths about them

Good, if you are really interested in the hill tribe culture of nothern Thailand. Its supported by a NGO. Watch the movie first. On the other hand, the museum has aged, much of the information are 20 years old. Be prepared to read a lot.

An excellent, detailed, non-judgmental description of the history of opium. And make sure to ask to see the video on the different hill tribes. Very informative, and well worth an hour or so of your time

Its informative museum about the tribes and opium war. But a lot of information was also double and the "new information" was more than 10 years ago.

Well worth the visit and definitely educational, about the background of the hill tribes but also about the politics behind the opium trade and the drug world in general. Do the reading and purchase the booklets. Ask for the slideshow.Restaurant and hotel run by the same museum organization.

A small but essential museum that could seriously use more funding. Apart from the objectification and commercialization of hill tribes culture, they actually struggle in Thailand and few are willing to shed some light on their lives.

The museum got old. It feels like they set it up 20-30 years ago and left it untouched since then. Additionally the airflow is so bad within that building that you get tired quickly because of lack of oxygen inside. However, they had a video presentation available in different languages - nice! So we learned a lot of numbers about the different tribes (easy to forget). The 50₿ are not too expensive for whats offered. It is ok to get an overview about the tribes and might help you to decide wether you want to visit a tribe and if - which one to visit.

A small museum about Thailand hilltribes, ticket fee 50B, the same price as the golden opium museum in Golden Triangle, not enough exhibitions as that, but in downtown easy to reach.

This museum was a definite highlight of the area. It displays different dress and customs of the numerous ethnic minorities in the surrounding area.I highly recommend this museum and the opium museums up by the golden triangle as they paint a picture of the area of years past.

An small but interesting museum. Definitely worth taking a look but unfortunately most of the information and data provided is from before the year 2000. They give glimpses into the effects that tourism and commercialisation has had on many tribes but dont go into too much detail. A bit concerning that the latest update from the ongoing timeline was from 2006.

Small museum to explain history and background of hill tribes. Ask for the (newish?slide show, available with narritive in multiple languages - its informative. Exhibit of artefacts is ok, could use some TLC. You can also book tours of the villages here. This seems like a good alternative to the very commercialized tours available in town...

I support the stated mission for this organization, Ive been here before and possibly will come here again. But my God, its like they stuck stuff up on the wall in 2000 and walked away. Every thing is so old that it diminished the story they are trying to tell.My other concern is that they fail to tell the whole story. Where did the hill tribe people come from? When? Where are they located? Im interested in that, but it was not there. Ill Google it when I get home.Go to it! Its only 50 baht, but dont expect a lot.

Probably give you insight of the different hill tribe in Thailand. Know the do and dont before you wanted to visit the tribe village and want you will be expecting. The pda inside the museum also offer customise tour which can range from half day to 4 days 3 nights trekking or educational. They are non profit organisation that put the money they earned into good use for the tribe.

This is a small musuem on hilltribes that is run by an NGO. The entry fees is Bht 50. They showed us a short documentary on the 6 different tribes and their customs and locations which was quite informative specially on tribes stats. They have 2 small rooms showing the different custumes. The seasonal calendar is quite interesting. Only visit it if you dont have time to see the large hilltribe musuem which is located in Chiang Mai

Good effort was put into creating this a few years ago. There was an unwelcoming atmosphere when I turned up to the place and I was the only person there. The in information was interesting and its definitely a good place to start if youre thinking of visiting the hilltribes they have a lot of brochures and give advice about ethical tours. 50 baht entrance fee. Authentic hilltribes crafts are available in the gift shop

The museum is part of the PDA (population & community development Associationwhich helps to aid hill tribe communities. They also offer tours should you be interested in going to a village. The museum may be small and on the older side, but does provide interesting facts and information on the effects of opium trade had on the region. Customs of the different tribes of Thailand is introduced here as well.

Nice little museum thats worth visiting if you have the time and are in the area, but dont go out of your way for it. 50 baht entry. Information is in English, and is about the exploitation of the tribes for tourists, and theres an interesting section on opium. It all feels a bit dated but its good to support what the centre is doing.
