Hikari Sushi Bar - Sushi restaurant in Dunedin, New Zealand
Yummy salmon n chicken bentos
No- nonsense, no-frills sushi spot with friendly service.
Disappointed with the Ramen having 3 mini slices of pork, and 6 slices of salmon sashimi.Target market of this business are students- cheap eats.If you’re a tourist, don’t go here.
Food was quite small but it was tasty but pretty good value for money I think
Great ambience in the middle of a busy city. Helpful and engaged staff. Love it
Deliver easy meals were very disappointing. Teriyaki Tofu Donburi and Bento box were virtually identical - slabs of rice with a couple bits of tofu. Donburi had some lettuce and a squirt of soy sauce, and the bento box had two bonus bits of sushi and some edamame.85% plain rice. Wouldn’t recommend.
Most watery ramen I’ve ever had, with 3 microscopic pieces of pork belly
Great sushi, good variety. Friendly staff.
Wait was quick for 3 meals ....was good but a little light on the mayo more would have been better...but would go back again
The best sushi that I ever had .
Great sushi, halal chicken sushi available.
Small portion of everything else except for rice. Worst miso soup that I ever had, no miso taste...very watery.
Sushi bit more expensive than elsewhere but worth it. Tonkotsu ramen is pretty good. Free miso with 6 pieces of sushi.
As good as any hikari, so excellent
Can select your own sushi wide range of sushi also cooked meals
Ohhh yummo we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We shared a plate of various sushi bites, followed by a salmon bento, and a salmon salad... with complimentary miso soup. Everything was delicious, friendly staff, and reasonable prices... Awesomeness!!! Arigato
Good selection of sushi ready to go. Perfect for a quick, healthy lunch
The sushi is excellent. Thats probably all you need to know really. The staff are also very nice of course which helps a lot. Highly recommended.
Very tasty sushi! Highly recommend when visiting or live in Dunedin. Tidy place with a lovely atmosphere, great staff and delicious food.
Great sushi and complimentary fresh miso when you buy six or more pieces
Ordered online. The GF chicken bento box is just rice and chicken. The chicken was tasty but overall not worth $14 and not really a bento box.
Yeah man was pretty swagger ae. Got a chicken curry and it was on special yum scrum in my tum. Tried to go for happy hour sushi but the missus mucked around so we didnt get there in time oh well somehow its my fault. Im sorry sweetie blah blah blah and all of that....... pickle
Visit Hikari for lunch one Sunday. They have freshly made sushi in the cabinet or you can order off the menu. They have a few tables so you can easily sit inside and eat or takeaway. We ordered the bento meals. The portion sizes were good, however it didn’t it wasn’t the most authentic Japanese food. The karaage chicken was tasty, but again this appears to be a fusion of Japanese and Korean foods. The meals were well priced and service friendly. If you aren’t too picky and not wanting truly authentic Japanese, then you’ll enjoy Hikari.
Delicious food. I know Japan and honestly this place is not disappointing at all and I guarantee its not that easy to find authentic Japanese around
I wouldnt even rate this 1 star. I Have previously been here before and it was nice and fresh. However, tonight my girlfriend and I had a dinner for her birthday. We ordered the yaki odon and it was disgusting! The chicken tasted days old and reheated. We will never ever go back there. As students who dont go out much, it was such a let down, absolutely disgusting. You couldnt pay me to eat there again.
Best shushi i had in Dunedin. Alway fresh. Ideal for bodybuilders on carb up day. 👌👌👌
Warm sushi, that looks like it was made a day or two ago. Didn’t go down well.
The best Katsu Curry Ive had in a long time. Friendly service and good prices.
Tasty sushi, very reasonable prices. Highly recommended
Happy tummy always. Never fail to satisfy my cravings. Wide and good selection of sushi. There is a ‘meal of the day’ that is on special price which is pretty good.
🤔.. Expensive sushi if you come from South East asia
Chicken Kastu is over cooked. Sauce is too salty.
A proper sushi bar! Good variety of chicken / seafood / vegetarian. Higher prices than some but also higher quality. Have not tried a full meal here yet.
Closed before advertised time. Also said we could only buy what was out of their cabinet in a hot restuarant. Absolutley would not recommend eating here if you do not want food poisoning. However Tokyo House next door open, clean, and made fresh in front of you. Friendly fast service. Go to Tokyo House instead.
I found the Sushi Bar excellant with a very good seclection of food availiable.
Out of the numerous Ive tried, probably the worse Japanese place in Dunedin. Firstly, the staff refused to honour a discount I had which is never a problem in Dunedin considering the amount of discount programs there are. Second, food was overpriced with small portions.Would definitely NOT recommend this place. In fact, I would actively go out of my way to tell others to avoid this place like I am doing now.
This is second time I been here. The food taste nice and the price is affordable as well. You can have a try if youre there. The bento was worth with its price
Chicken sushi was not so good and staff were unfriendly (I think it was because I only ordered sushi)
Staff didnt seem interested in me wanting to give them business. No smiles and sushi itself tasted like it was old.
A decent sushi bar with a good variety to choose from. The area is perfect for a quick snack, meal or even for a takeaway. Though its my first time having a meal here, my friends have all said the quality is good and after having some, Id say the same. They also are keen to innovate as they apparently come up with new sushi varieties from time to time.
Best sushi bar around here.Especially some rolls and gatsu-don was good.
We buy sushi from here regularly and its always of a good standard, they have a good range although its not the cheapest in town.
The price and quality of the meals offered here are both average.
Hikari is the best sushi in the south island with out a doubt. Worth the money
Favourite sushi in Dunedin. Pricier but you get incredible quality
Very tasty sushi. Hot food to order and free miso soup if you buy enough.
Excellent sushi at decent prices. If you want a good deal, come for happy hour (after 5).
I had low expectations coming in but this was some of the best sushi Ive had in NZ! Great selection of gluten free options as well.
I was very pleasantly surprised by Hikari. I entered with low expectations but the food was fresh, delicious and well presented. I had the don buri and The Mrs had a bento box. She wanted some sushi afterwards and, although sushi which has been in a cabinet for a while tends to be pretty insipid, what we were served was of greatly superior quality from what youd get in the mall (and better value). The service was very friendly and attentive - Master Three was presented with a box of chicken nibbles and prawn tempura on the house which he was most pleased about! Worth a visit for sure.
Definitely the best sushi place in Dunedin! Ive tried most of them and Hikari beats them all. The sushi is in glass cabinets so you can pick and choose whichever ones you like. Its all freshly prepared and doesnt have that cold, "gluggy" rice feel of the cheaper places (e.g. Savoury Japan). The price:quality ratio is excellent as well. You can get five or six pieces, which is very, very filling for about $8.50. There is also a great variety of sushi, as well as vegetarian options. I recommend the apple salmon!
