This attraction has a zoo with 125+ species, a greenhouse with gardens & an amusement park.
the last time we went here.. it was just with jeshan and stefan and now they are 5 😂😘.the first time i went here i was still single. maybe 18yrs ago.. and some animals are still the same 😌 im sad for them actually 😌 i wonder if theyre still the same animals but there are lots of vacant "cages" already. but there are also a lot of improvements like new restaurants..new play space for kids.. new resting place.. and of course the price is a lot more cheaper 👏🏼👏🏼 15yrs old and below are free so all my babies are free 😂😂
An extremely good place to visit for the weekend
Large zoo with botanical garden, food stands and shops. Many chimpanzees and gorillas. The animals had more room to live than in other japanese zoos.
Despicable treatment of animals. It’s akin to a prison. Many were pacing, showing signs of distress and sadness due to awful environments and tiny enclosures. If this zoo was in the uk it would be shut down immediately.
Number of animals is very less
Great time to spend with animals and nature also a good trekking bonding for family and couple... its good to re.visit again ☺️
The enclosures seemed way too small for the animals (especially the elephants, tigers, red pandas, and hippos). Many of them were pacing back and forth in their limited space or stuck in position, and seemed distress by being in such close proximity to guests with nowhere to go. It seems there are some facilities under construction… I hope they will be of suitable size in the future. I initially came only to go to the botanical gardens, but decided to check out the zoo since it’s included in the ticket. Now I feel bad giving my money to an organization like this.I’ve been to some excellent zoos where the animals seemed to be in good care and in a well-maintained habitat. This is not one of the zoos.
It’s a clean place, have good food, apparently well taken care of animals.Kids up to 15 years old do not pay and this is very nice!
An excellent place to spend quality family time for a whole day. The animals looked healthy. I will recommend to commute on public transport on holidays and weekends.
Huge zoo with a wide variety of animals and wildlife. Great place for the kids and the family. Some exhibits are a little old and run down. But still highly recommended as a place to visit in Nagoya.
Truly a very wonderful place! The day I went it rained so hard but I really didnt care. I enjoyed my time so much and I didnt notice that closing time approached while i was deep inside the park! The park has a huge selection of animals from birds to monkeys to lions! The rose garden and green fields are also very pretty and I found myself just walking and getting lost in the natural beauty all around me!The entrance fee is very cheap at 500 yen and you can upgrade your ticket to include the sky tower for 680 yen I believe, which I will definitely do next time! There also many food stalls, cafes and restaurants with a variety of different foods and beverages, there were also many vending machines and gift shops.Overall, this place is a MUST visit for anyone who comes to nagoya, alone or with family or friends, its worth it!
The place was really very good. You can enjoy by watching different species of reptiles mammals. Also you can enjoy various rides.😀Due to covid 19 I recommend you to book a ticket in advance from the website before visiting.
I love there!
The so-called "handsome gorila" resides. I must say he really is one of a kind.
This place is huge, this past few years they constantly have renovation in some section. Their tickets price so cheap. Animals looks in good condition and they have lot of it. The zoo is enjoyable both for child and adult, lot of toilet with changing table, and restaurant and snack bar. We love the elephant place, be sure to check them out. Botanical garden is massive too, it took whole day to explore this place. Their souvenir shop is basic with all the thing they could make as souvenir.
For 500¥ you really cant go wrong. I wouldve expected entry to be at least 2000¥ based on the wide variety and quality of animals. Coming from LA with its zoo and San Diegos, Im used to pretty good ones. This zoo lets you get so close to some of the bigger animals like rhinos, elephants, and gorillas. The cat exhibits are also exemplary. The snow leopards like to sleep right next to the cage wall often. There is also a small pond for boating and a botanical garden.
This is a great place to spend the afternoon. Fall is the best time to visit the Higashiyama Garden.
The streets were filled with warm lights. It was beautiful.Though it was annoying there’s some old people who occupied too much space to take photos.
Beautiful place with garden as well as zoo . But animals are very less in numberBut a gud place to enjoy with kids
It’s affordable price and you can see some rare animals!
What a beautiful zoo with lots of walking paths. Youll spend an entire day here if you want to just enjoy everything, so get here early. The animals seem very well taken care of and a lot of open space for them. The zoos collection is large as well, compared to other zoo in Japan, there is a lot of space. A great place for a picnic, a walk, and enjoying nature away from the city, so it is a good way to get out of the busy city for a bit on your trip.
Very nice place for family stay. A lot of animals and attractions. Red Panda facility is just opened too! Another construction is ongoing, but not affect much to visitors...
Best place to chill and relax. Recommend to come early as there will be lesser people.
Nice place to take your kids. The fall foliage in a sunny day is awesome!
The ticket price is only 500yen.We can see various animals. Not just animals you can see reptiles. The seal were fighting to get better position. It was dramatic and fun to see.
It’s like all in one type of place. You can see wild animals like elephants, giraffes, bear and lions. You can have the view of some sea animals too.In one side of this zoo you have view of half of aquatic life.OrHave fun while boating with your close ones or view the place around by going to view tower. And also there are play zone mainly for children but in some adults can also have fun.Enjoy 😊
Such an amazing place to visit. They really take a very good care of the animals in the zoo and Botanical Graden is so neat and clean that it will give you such a good feelings.
Ticket price is ¥500 for adult. Nice zoo with lots of varieties of animals, birds, flowers. Worth visiting!!
Good for family but not enough parking space
Very good price , only 500 yen for adult. U can spend one day there seeing various kinds of animals and plants. The size of the zoo is bigger than expected . Better enter the zoo early in the morning in case you wanna visit all animals. We visited in early Dec and unexpectedly can across the red leaves season. It was awesome !The food in the restaurant is not expensive (around 1100 yen for a set. U can sit in front of the lake to enjoy a leisure time out !
It was such a beautiful gardenI went there with my cousins and her children. It was a public holiday and there are many people went there. We felt it since outside the entrance. Long car line up.There are 4 gates I saw from the leaflet. Many people coming but not so many car in the parking. Maybe because Japanese public transport is good. For foreigners who do not have Japanese sim card, remember to download the map first because the place is huge and you will easily get lost.First we let the kids to play in the amusement park, well the father accompanied them after we left to wander around. It is good that it was made together in one place. Let the kids play in the park and we wander around in the gardenI don’t like seeing animal in the cage so we spent just little time in the zoo. We enjoyed almost all of our time in the botanical garden. In the green house where we saw many tropical trees. They were took care nicely here. Never imagine that plants we have plenty in Indonesia will be seen in the green house. I now know the reason why many Japanese love Indonesia. Come, come to Indonesia. You can enjoy it everywhere. Our main intention was to enjoy the cherry blossom. We went up. In a quite a long way, we thought we were lost when we found a note saying +- ‘Spirit! You are close.’ Haha they know what we were thinking. It was not full blossom yet, we came a week too early and the roses are away from blooming. However we are so excited! There is a brigde name Hanasono Bridge. Not know whether it has something to do with Javanese name? I also greeted by a Japanese Moslem. Masha Allah. So sweet. Did not expect that in JapanFound long rows of porcelain chairs. Reminded me my parents’ house and many Indonesians houses. We put the chair in the living room or porch. Here we found them out door.Overall, all my family members enjoyed spending time there and if I go to Nagoya again, I will visit it again.
This was the second time I have been to this zoo and NEVER again! All of the large animals were suffering from some kind of psychosis... The polar bear was smashing its head on the bars, the tiger against a concrete wall, the wolf was pacing so much it had a rut worn into the hard pack ground... It is so bad my 2 year old son just looked at me and said "Daddy animals sad" thats pretty bad when a 2yr old knows the animals are not well. It is absolutely horrific!
Great place to take the kids. ❤️ just make sure you wear sneakers because you’re probably gonna walk a lot! 😅 there are some snacks options but we usually bring things from home because it’s allowed and that way you can avoid the lines and eating mostly junk food. ✌️
Spacious for human but not spacious for animals, lions rooms so small they can hardly turn around...polar bear looked so annoyed, not to mention the bird cages. The plants are great, diversified n in good condition, can ride water bycicle in the pond
Very nice Park and zoo. Good for family day.You can ride a boat or a "swam" on the little lake there. There are also several animal species on the zoo. You can also touch some fishes and lizards. There is a very beautiful (during spring mainlyflower garden, a luxurious restaurant for dinner (reservation may be required). There is a coffee that serves some meals and snacks and some food trucks spread in the park. For several purposes it is a very nice place to spend a day.Unfortunately, as many zoos, the space for some animals does not seem adequate. You can see notes of stressed animals in that environment. Even though they seem to have proper care of them. Except for that, it is a great park.
Animals were very depressed. And living conditions cramped and poor. However its OK considering admission is 500 yen. The botanical gardens were also lacking in floral arrangement. A good place to film a horror movie though~
Perfect place to spend holidays. Its a huge area, I cant able to visit all the are in one day..Highly recommended to visit
This is a great place to explore on your own or with your friends or family. This is especially nice for kids. The zoo/botanical gardens are easily accessed from the city of Nagoya by public transport, on foot, by car or bicycle. At this time of year, late November/ early December, the botanical gardens are a special treat. Some of the most picturesque scenes surrounded by spectacular autumn foliage can be found here: reflecting pools, antique buildings, and water wheels add to the beauty. It is well worth the visit. Come and see.
Higashiyama zoo is pretty amazing, there are various animals to see and there are also info charts on each of the animals cage which so that adds a very educational feel to the area it is also.written in both english and japanese. 640¥ will get you the entire zoo experience this includes skytower, gardens n zoo.
One of the worst zoos I’ve visited. While the botanical gardens and Sakura and momoji trees are beautiful in season the actual animal enclosures are old, small and in poor repair. The animals on display are stir crazy and the proximity to the visitors is stressing. The parents encourage children to throw food scraps and other non natural food meant for animals into enclosures as well as let them kind in the glass or bars further stressing the animals. But sure, keep calling this a nice place or a good zoo and please continue to bring your heathen children here.
If you want to spend your ¥640 well in Nagoya then you must visit here. This joint ticket gives you passes to the zoo, botanical gardens, amusement park and a landmark in Eastern Nagoya, the Higashiyama Sky Tower. We went here on weekdays to avoid the usual weekend crowds, but during our visit we saw some students in their field trips as well as some families. The Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens (東山動植物園 Higashiyama Dōshokubutsuenwas built before the outbreak of the Second World War, in 1937, and it is said to be one of the largest in Asia. In Japan, it is the second most popular zoo, only behind Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. The zoo houses more than 125 species of animals including elephants, bear, koala, kangaroo, zebra, giraffe, lions and tigers. Some animals usually seen in polar areas such as the polar bears and penguins are housed in a controlled environment. Each species have a very informative information about them, installed beside their cages. These information include their basic information, their habitats, diets and other trivial matters written in Englishû, Korean, Chinese and most of all Japanese. Between the zoo and the botanical garden, a man-made lagoon was built, called the Kamiike Pond. You can even navigate on this one by pedal boats. If you want to navigate much faster, you can take the Sky Train, a monorail that traverses through large span of the park (it is paid separately). The skies were quickly getting overcast so we decided to skip our visit to the botanical garden and instead spend our time in the Sky Tower.
Big, open zoo area that is adjacent to the Nagoya Botanical Garden. Not as many animals as Ueno Zoo in Tokyo though you do get to see quite unique animals including the Siamang Monkey that you can hear from miles away and quite fun to watch swinging from side to side. The cages for some of the animals look a bit small with most of the animals spending the day pacing up and down.
Quiet and tidy zoo. During weekdays, visitors are little. The zoo restaurant is a good place to have lunch and rest!
Nice spot for kids to hang around for half a day, but might be too hot during summer.
Best 500yen I spent in Nagoya! The zoo and the gardens are huge, with a wide variety of plants and animals. The only thing is that some of the animals look really sad, and seem to have strange behaviours... But I am not a zoologist so what do I know. Nevertheless, it seems to be a very popular place with the local tourists!
Is a beautiful place to share with family and friends. Also is cheap ($640 yens with the tower includedand there is so much to see around. Its not a new zoo and some animals are in small spaces, but they are well attended. Fair enough the gardens are beautiful, peaceful and big that we thought.
I like here so much! The fee is not expensive, you will get discount if use metro day pass. Not only animals, you can also see many plants here. Like a big park. A place worthy to visit in Nagoya~
Great place with lots of stuff to do. Animals are cool. It is nice you can use your manaca card to pay for the entrance fee.
Autumn is a special time of the year. The reds, yellows layering greens in Hagashiyama Botanical Gardens were just amazingly beautiful Visited this place at end of Nov 2016. Must visit and relax! The zoo, which was just next door, has its variety of animals. With kids, this is another must visit place. This place was half an hour by underground from Nagoya city center.
Excellent and interesting zoo! I am highly recommended tourists visiting Nagoya, Aichi prefecture should be stay here at least one morning or afternoon. The animals are various and looks cute and happy. The stars are gorilla, giraffe as well as the koala. Also preserving many kinds of amphibia and fishes in a special building. This zoo is relatively spacious so that consider for enough water to refill before visiting.
