Hickey Brothers Cigar Store - Tobacco shop in Rock Island, United States
Great selection, properly stored, priced fair. The salesperson was very friendly & knowledgeable, made excellent recommendations!
Love the atmosphere and friendly staff . Good cigars ,decent price and looking forward to another stop by and chill . Great experiance !
More than half the boxes were empty cigars some cigars had visible mold on them and walked out with a 601 oscuro, which had a cigar beetle hole. Safe to say I will never go back here.
Low/no stock levels on many cigars.
Lots of options, and a fun place to hang out with friends
Great experience, Josh is the man!
Always a comfortable area with good staff
Nice selection of cigars and friendly service. Relaxing atmosphere.
Good selection and atmosphere. BYOB
Dope spot for kicking back and enjoying a good cigar or hanging with friends chiefing a hookah for a couple hours. Doesnt serve alcohol but you can bring your own alcohol in. Pretty sure its no glass aloud but you can bring some brews in. For sure a little hippy spot.
Friendly costumer service. Many flavors to choose from.
I dont usually smoke cigars, but when I do I get them from Hickey Brothers.
Good cigar selection
A very interesting place to buy cigars youll have to go there and experience it yourself a very large selection of cigars and the help was very knowledgeable
Very helpful in finding some new cigars to try. Will def recommend.
This is the only place to get a cigar in town with a lounge which is why I and, I believe, several people go there. The cigar prices are pretty high. I try to make a purchase most of the time when I go but I and other people usually buy their sticks elsewhere and just go to hang out. Their cigars are often a little dry as well. I know of two walk-in humidors at gas stations (believe it or notwith better selection, prices, and quality. Music could be less juvenile too though I guess they are just trying to appeal more to the hookah crowd.
If there was ever a cigar lounge that deseeved to be called a "dive" its Hickey Brothers. Their selection of cigars is pitiful. While their website lists a large selection, their humidors (cabinetsare barely stocked. Many of their cigars have mold on them; mostly the ones that get the most sunlight. They have an article posted claiming "plume" exists, but a study conducted by Friends of Habanos proves that all "plume" is mold. They fill their humidifiers with tap water instead of distilled water (something we witnessed first hand). Their "vape juice" is over a year old. Their furniture is cheap and their HVAC works so poorly that they had to leave their front door open.
Great atmosphere employees are cool they also have a very diverse selection of cigars and coals to choose from however the booths are a little worse for the wear and an exhaust system would help I walk out of there smelling like a cigarette.
Its okay... Ventilation could be better.
Friendly hospitable atmosphere! Huge selection, youll find exactly what you want. Attentive staff dressed like pirates willing to help you find what you need with a smile and a eye patch!
Friendly and helpful staff, prices reasonable, good variety of cigars
Fine selection, and relaxed experience.
Whoever is working here is rude made me feel like a problem for asking for my cigar to be cut and a lighter to light my cigar whole time on the phone arguing with someone chairs in lounge are awful looking just overall very sad
I stopped in because I was in from out of town and was killing some time. Im not a cigar shopper but was shopping for a gift. I worked Michelle and she helped me out a lot with what I was looking for. I doubt Ill ever be in the area again, but I am I hope to stop by again.
Great laid back and welcoming joint. Ill be best soon.
Been going here off and on for about 5 years. What everyone says is "mold" is plume. Ive gone through just about every display case and my only conclusion is that people arent used to seeing plume because they shop at other places that dont have an aged selection. The selection isnt as full as it used to be but still has a better selection than any of the Tobacco Outlets and Joes Smoke Shops that only have the boring bland cigars sold by one distributor and nothing special. I would even be bold enough to say that this is the only real cigar store west of Chicago and east of Des Moines.
Great atmosphere. Cool people to hang out with. Im from out of town and had a great time with the locals.
Great experience! My first time there. I sincerely hope Illinois will let them survive despite their heavy taxation and extortion of taxpayers.
Great place, Really awesome staff! Great selection of cigars.
Great staff, beautiful cigar shop. I smoke a pipe though. Thier tinned pipe tobacco is over priced and there is a limited selection of quality choices.
They know there stuff!
Great place to have a cigar talk to people. Cigar selection in the store falls way short of what they have on the website
Excellent selection of cigars. Great place to enjoy a hookah with friends. Good selection of flavors to choose from.
Nice atmosphere. Wasnt like Cigar Realm in Ashland VA but Id visit here again.
Came in today needing assistance putting together a variety pack for a gift...Service and knowledge were amazing!! Thank you!Susan
Great place to enjoy a cigar. Vintage atmosphere. Cigar selection was quite small. But that made me pick a cigar i have not had before and it was well worth it. Definetly will go back. Great customer service
I previously rated Hickey Brothers at 5 stars but after a recent (Feb/2018trip the establishment has gone down hill. In the past you could walk in and even with the place full the air handlers would be clearing out the smoke. This time with about 10 people smoking it was painful to walk in. You could see the smoke film on all the windows and glass. Cigar selection was terribly disappointing with about 75% of the cases empty.
Mold on almost everything (its never plume), poor selection on cigars, half of the boxes in the humidors are just empty, overpriced too.
Poor selection, poor humidor conditions, to high of prices on what they do have compared to other cigar emporiums I frequently visit. This stuff they call (plumeI call mold... I have NEVER seen it in any other cigar establishment I have been to. Furthermore I dont care for the personnel working there, he or she whatever they were has gender identity issues and for me thats not something I care to be around in a public business (definitely such as a fine cigar place)
Great place to smoke insides.
Shelves are bare, much of what is here is covered in mold (not plume). Looks like the place is being neglected. Mens room needs repairs done to fixtures, the urinal looks like something from a very bad truck stop. The chairs are in poor shape and needs repaired/replaced. The whole place is in disrepair. This used to be an awesome place to come, now i just hear people taking "this would be a good place to start a cigar shop".
Great place for a cigar and friendly people.
I am from out of town and was looking for a place to smoke a good cigar. After searching the area I thought this place would be a good stop with a 4.4 out of 5 review. The website looked very appealing. After entering the shop I quickly realized the reviews was wrong. Over half of the cigars were heavily covered with mold. I have my own humidor and occasionally run into the situation where some mold may develop if the humidity gets to high, but the amount of mold on these cigars appeared to be unsafe to smoke. After seeing there was no care in maintaining the humidor I did not feel like taking my chances on the hookah. I was very disappointed with the whole experience and hope that this can be resolved soon. The lounge felt like a nice area to hang out but does nothing for me if I cant purchase something to smoke.
The owner is great a there is a lot of options.
Met friends here, and will not do so again. Im not the cigar smoker, but they were not impressed with the selection. Its not current, not well-humidufied, and very expensive. Theres a $10 fee to smoke your own. There is no bar, just a few sodas, they allow you to bring in beer only. No music, not even muzak. Bare bones atmosphere, catering to the college hookah crowd. A real dive, and not the fun kind.
Its a unique atmosphere and the shisha selection is awesome. Id spend all my money there if I could. XD
First, let me say that my rating is not based on my experience at Hickey Brothers. The employees and people Ive spoken with at the store have largely been friendly, and the selection while not great is decent. However, the prices are considerably over other B&M stores in the area (I wont compare to online because it isnt a fair comparisonand the environment is fairly poor. They rarely run the air purifiers, have only a single TV, the seating is cheap and uncomfortable and the lighting is barely sufficient for reading a magazine if you arent there with a group.More significantly (and the reason this is 1/5), the cigar storage is abysmal. The RH and temperature of each cabinet deviates wildly from cabinet to cabinet and they have a significant issue with moldy cigars. I have been in a number of times in the past two years and it has gotten worse each time. The employees and even owner will claim the mold is "plume" but it isnt. For those who arent in the know: plume is when the oils in a cigar that has been aged appropriately over a long period of time sometimes crystalize. It appears as a light dusting of crystals on the cigar and appears consistently over the entire wrapper and does not wipe away easily. Mold grows in spots, can be white, green, black or blue in color and will appear fuzzy and may wipe away easily.Mold will also grow on the outside of cellophane wrappers while plume will NEVER appear on the outside of a wrapper. I do not recommend buying ANYTHING from their cabinets where any cigars are white or spotty in appearance. The owner denies the problem and is showing negligence and a disregard for customers who may be allergic to mold.I am allergic to mold, I had a mild reaction to a cigar from one of the cabinets in my early visits that had some mold. The cigar I chose did not have any visible mold but obviously had spores on it from being in the same cabinet. Now the problem is rampant and on the rare occasion I stop by for a cigar other local stores dont carry I have to be extra careful about which cabinets I will purchase from.I strongly suggest going to Tobacco Outlet Plus for cigars and informing Hickey Brothers that local customers wont put up with moldy cigars. The issue was minor two years ago and could have been resolved with a bit of work and very little loss of product, today it is thousands of dollars worth of cigars and more than two entire cabinets that are FULL of mold.Edit: for the record...I dont blame them for having mold and I dont believe its necessarily their fault. The midwest is a terrible area for cigar storage and maintaining humidity is difficult with even a small collection, let alone thousands like they have at the store. What I dont appreciate is being flat out lied to about it being plume when there is an abundance of information online with photographs for comparison describing the difference. Im an informed collector with a sizable collection of my own and I know what both plume and mold look like. There is a 0% chance what Im talking about is plume, its mold. Cigars that are less than several years old cannot have plume, plume does not "spread" and many of these cigars have mold outside the wrapper. Plume can be on the inside of a wrapper, but never the outside because its caused by oils on the cigar.
When I first walked in here, the smell was a bit off, but I got used to it and am liking it here. Theres a good vibe here and Im enjoying it. The bathroom is a single person one so it gives you some privacy. Thats also nice. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to smoke a cigar or hookah
Nice little cigar lounge. I like going there when the Midwestern weather turns a bit nasty to enjoy a cigar on my porch. Overall cigar selection is not very good, although they do carry a few good ones. Price is about the same as any other lounges I have visited (including Chicago). Like someone else mentioned, the employees are a mixed bag; some of them including the owner are friendly and accommodating, but there are a couple of others that seem a bit aloof and not as friendly (one guy especially seems to have very bad social skills and acts annoyed when answering questions). Overall a descent place to go to when the weather outside is bad.
Great hookah bar. BYOB AND FOOD
