Hermitage Rd Bar and Restaurant in Montepuez

I went for coffee in the new expanded coffee and bagel bar and it was nice. The staff were great - especially Luke, Elena and there was an older woman as well (but I didnt get her name).However the reason I am giving 2/3 stars is because the prices are unreasonable.My friend ordered a fresh juice to find out it wasnt actually fresh but from a cartoon and the size of the glass was tiny! A very small, child size glass, which literally in 2 sips she finished it and she paid £5 for it! Ridiculous really.Also, it would be great at as bagel bar to offer gluten free bagels. As we are only limited to one cake option.

Feels a bit unfair to 3 star on service as the front of house were clearly down 1 or 2 but it took 3 goes to get a bill and the frustrated shouts for service from the kitchen were notable.The food is solidly good, korean chicken starter very good and fresh tasting. Will be back to try my way round the menu more.Atmosphere is a tricky one as it depends on the table/booth. The banquettes are great, the open tables are less so but it isnt bad anywhere. Tried to be balanced.

Fab feeling, good beer and food.Place has had a refresh upstairs and now has a large new cafe at street level. People & beer still amazing. Didnt have food this time but looking at other peoples plates - wow, was I ever hungry.

Ordered Americano and orange drizzle cake which was delightful.Baristas very friendly and didnt take long at all to be servedSat outside and throughly enjoyed the ambience of a Sunday afternoon in HitchinInterior decor was very nice, spacious and comfortable

Great meal and great service, but I couldn’t believe the scam they’re trying to pull. Three of us had the £15 two course set menu and with a couple of drinks, the bill came to £66. They tried to charge a 12.5% tip of over £13! Their reasoning was they charge the tip on the price that the meal would have been if it hadn’t been a set menu price. So trying to add a tip to £45 that never existed. Sort it out before you get reported to trading standards!

This place is LOVELY! I need to come back to eat here because the menu looks good and reasonably priced 👍🏽

Lovely restaurant, very chic and spacious inside. You can see the open kitchen and smell the delicious food as it is cooking. Great menu, all locally sourced. Good service.

Food was good but highly disappointed with the fact that we booked a table for my grandsons 18th birthday and towards the end of our meal we served coffeee and told we had 3 minutes to finish it before the next booking when we spent around 300 pounds. Ridiculous!!!!!!!

Great food great drinks. Expensive buy good value for money. My only comment is the drinks should not be London prices as this is hitchin and not London. Then I would he much more comfortable with drinking and spending more, bit that is me being very picky.

I am so pleased to see that this new coffee shop is dog friendly, offers a good atmosphere to relax and enjoy good food. Highly recommended and will certainly visit weekly

Accidentally went in at 11:30ish and used the bathroom and was rudely spoken to by a member of staff I then apologised and offered to purchase something as you do, was very rudely spoken to again for no reason other than I used the bathroom and they were closed even tho the doors were open, will not be back for a drink anytime soon such a shame

We had the best lunch. Took ages to choose from an amazing menu! Had the absolute pleasure of meeting Riju the Manager. Such exciting things happening here. We will be back asap! Thank you so much 😊

We’ve eaten here a few times and every time the food has been impeccable. Brilliant service, cool vibe and delicious menu. The ribs are probably the best I’ve tasted and the roast is fantastic too!

Atmospheric interior (former ballroomand didnt feel like you were in hitchin (reminded me of places in Liverpool / Manchester). Service was very friendly. Food was excellent, the chicken supreme was cooked perfectly and sauce was delicious, the chicken burgers were crunchy and tasty and chips were perfect. Reasonably prices for a classier dining experience.

Great food, excellent service. First time, definitely will be back. Found parking in street just in front, convenient. Plenty of space inside, I love it when you can see the kitchen.

Good restaurant. I used to come here often in 2018 and 2019 but stopped coming since they didn’t honor the time in reservations quite well. Fast forward three years and decided to give them another shot for my birthday. Everything was good. As always, great food, nice service and atmosphere. Small detail, the Yorkshire pudding and potatoes of the Sunday roast were both undercooked.

Nice restaurant, beautifully decorated with great service. The food was great, so where the cocktails. We order steaks and they were done to perfection and the starters were yummy. Overall, very satisfied A+

Half full restaurant, we were 6for the taste of the food. +1*The wait for staters 1 hour and 15 minutes. -1*The wait for mains 50 minutes. -1*We didnt order dessert as we didnt want to wait another hour.We ordered pretty much the same steak, but all the plates looked completely different.-1*There is no option to not pay the 10% service charge. -1*

The food at The Hermitage is always good - weve had roast dinner here twice and then had dinner with family on a Saturday. The burger was one of the best Ive had!

Friendly staff but sadly the food and drink was very disappointing.The nduja sausage hash was basically a large bowl of tomato sauce and some fried eggs. There were two large grated potato croutons that quickly disintegrated into the tomato sauce. No sign of the nduja sausage, apparently because it’s ground into a paste. It tasted of nduja, but the overall effect was of spicy baby food.Smashed avocado was under seasoned and was just avocado and oil, not a hint of interest like a few chopped onions, tomato, or cilantro.And the coffee was under extracted and the oat milk thin and not very nice.I hope for improvements, because it’s a lovely space, and the staff work hard and are nice. But the food and drink do not do it justice.

The place where catering business is properly done. Other businesses should learn from them.Sophisticated interior, good coffee and amazing atmosphere in the morning.We came back for dessert in the evening. We had the sharing plate. Dessert was delicious, nicely served.I must mention the staff. English staff and the people seemed to enjoy their job. They were very welcoming, friendly and happy. Its rare to find a place where employees do their job so enthusiastically.P.s. Female toilet looked so pretty like being in a 5* hotel.

Visited the Hermitage for my wifes birthday on the 26th July, service was amazing as usual. Guila was very friendly and polite (she is fluent in Italian dont you know!She looked after us and helped us pick cocktails and took our dinner order too. Food and drinks came very quickly! Dessert too arrived promptly, even decorated for my wifes birthday! Great experience! Thank you for the lovely evening!

We really enjoyed our experience here. The cocktail menu is fab and the wine list very much to our taste and good value. Our chateaubriand was just delicious. Service was attentive without being OTT. Overall the ambience was lovely, the setting is really quite unusual and really made the night.

The restaurant is very spacious and has a great atmosphere. I really enjoyed the Norfolk chicken for main and we had to have the sweet board for dessert.

This place seems to have gone down a bit over previous years. I ordered an espresso martini which didnt taste a great deal like coffee and the food is nice enough, but I will visit again soon and re-evaluate :)

Always brilliant. Great atmosphere. We use The Herm for lunch and breakfast mainly and its great. Coffee..... Eggs Benedict - all stand out :-)

Absolutely gorgeous steak, perfectly cooked and served with fully flavoured vegetables 😍 It was so lovely I didnt get a picture before I devoured it. The decor was relaxed and fresh, the staff friendly and keen, and the cocktails looked incredible. Next time we visit were booking a hotel to take full advantage of the bar.

I’ve been to Hermitage a few times now and I really love the cocktails. The service is always friendly and efficient. I’ve also eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed the food. There are a couple of vegan options for me that I’ve enjoyed. It would be great if there were a few more vegan mains added for variety.

Not often that I dont finish a drink 😁 after the first returned neck oil the second was no better as well as the Brixton... Not the place it used to be unfortunately. Id add service was patchy also given the place was also quieter than usual despite have a couple of group parties.

It used to be good! Service was pretty good. However foods are similar to a good pub! The veggie tagine must be removed from the menu..it was tasteless and wrong ( the grain was over cooked and no taste!!! Desert menu is limited which highlights that the chefs have no ambition (do little as possible)!! Over all is just average when you could be exceptional! Best wishes for the future!

Had lunch here on Friday 4th February. Service was slow despite it not being very busy. Asked service for an extra napkin and never got it. Ordered the chicken burger which had the pickles placed on the bottom bun and soaked the bread so the burger simply collapsed in my hand. The food was cold as if it had been waiting for service for some time too. Don’t waste your time or money at this place, they don’t know how to reflect the price of the food with the service or presentation.

We love this place, easy menu to navigate, buzzing atmosphere, casual and fancy at the same time somehow and caters to all venue sizes!Amazing cocktails! Perfect for date night x

I was there with family for a birthday party, we loved the food and service. Really snazzy place, friendly staff, and amazing quality food. The polenta chips were just to die for. We’ll be back there again!

I love this coffee shop. Not used the dine in; I just enjoy picking up a wonderful, fresh latte in the mornings, when Im working in the area. Generally, its easy to park outside; sand the service is quick; and if you want to take food with you, thats pretty jolly good too.👍🙂

Amazing restaurant. Very spacious and modern look to this restaurant. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic and friendly waiter. We dont personally like wine, so we had cocktails all night, which were fantastic. The starter we had Teriyaki Pork Belly that melts in your mouth, then for our main we had Cote De Boeuf, medium rare. The sauces it came with were so good, I can still taste them now haha The steak was cooked almost to perfection, but maybe needed a little longer. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner.

Tasty Sunday roast with amazingly fresh veggies. Love their broccoli fried with chilli and nuts, very special and delicious.

Our party of 7 had a fantastic lunch here. Everyone ordered something different and all enjoyed the food. The staff and food are both excellent. In addition to being a great place for food there is an excellent bar with a great atmosphere. There is also a coffee shop downstairs.

We were only in Hitchin for one night and the breakfast at our hotel didn’t look very appetizing, I searched google and found the Hermitage. We ordered the English breakfast and it was very nice. The food was tasty, the service was friendly and the ambiance was festive! I will return for another English breakfast the next time we are in Hitchin.

Booked over the phone with Tara she was very organized and polite. Arrived at 12 and was greeted by Michael he showed us to our table was very welcoming it was my ninth anniversary the food was exceptional the belly pork was amazing so was the flat iron steak which my wife chose. We then had a fantastic dessert which they put happy anniversary on the plate with a nice sparkler. The cocktails were also very tasty. Would definitely recommend 5*.

Went for dinner for the first time, lively historic venue - used to be a ballroom - super high ceilings, huge bar area, open sided kitchen and tiered seating on tables booths and the old stage. Exposed brick walls and original wooden floors make this a great vibe venue. Two of us had the burger with bone marrow croquette, one had ribs and a side of mac and cheese. Drinks wise the rosè was blush and excellent and an espresso martini to finish was great. The waiting staff were knowledgeable and friendly.

Popped in for weekend breakfast. Really tasty breakfast & value for money as real quality. Also free tea & filter coffee included. Disabled access too, plenty of space & friendly but skilled service
