Hello sushi (Tauranga Crossing) - Japanese restaurant in Tauranga, New Zealand
First time trying, quite over priced for what you get. Teriyaki chicken on rice was very dry, not enjoyable at all. They did have a good selection but I clearly made the wrong choice.I wont be rushing back to try again.
Really good sushi, super fresh sashimi 💛
Best ramen noodles in NZ. Regular for several years. Miles better than their other shop in the Crossing shopping center for noddles.
Love this place. I always order their c2 and its so delicious and fresh everytime
Always go for hot & spicy Korean chicken and ask for extra extra extra extra extra hot (it must be done). Been eating here for years, always rate it. Its misunderstood in my opinion because of the name people just think sushi BUT if you order from the menu, youll usually be in for a nice surprise- food is yummy.
Asked for no salad and they still put it
Lots of choices. Big servings. Never fails. Always our choice when we are at Crossing.
Ah yes..who doesnt love all this strange stuff?
Good sushi place to go if you want a quick bite
Worst sushi experience ever. The salmon in side the sushi not fresh at all come with lots of fat and bones, and the rice sticking with the box.
Beautiful Sushi. Will be back 😁
Worst sushi that I have ever had. Frozen, stick rice all around, loose. Only suitable for those who have never had real sushi.
Amazing selection of dishes, very generous portions. Great value.
Good food. A bit on the pricey side
The best Miso ramen with pork I’ve had, on par with Tokyo standards. Their sushi mixed seafood selection is also amazing, you can enjoy the usual selection as well as tuna and scallops.
I should mention that this review is for the hello sushi inside the food court at the crossing not the dine in restaurant. I used to come in here every Thursday to get sushi with my husband and two children for dinner. The first time I asked if they made sushi to order and they said yes. As we are not meat eaters, this became the only place at the crossing we would frequent ordering the same thing every time. After a couple of times I got attitude when I asked for some to be made, increasing each week and the last times we went once we were rudely questioned why we order avocado sushi each week and once the server rudely saying he couldn’t make any for us as there was no avocado (the rudeness bothered me not the lack of avocado). It was very nice sushi but we have stopped going here and now go every week to St Pierres Sushi Fraser cove who are always very accomodating and it is much cheaper there too!Edit: I came here 8. Months later and it was disgusting. The avocado was old and they made shoddy sushi with half of it spilling out or falling apart because it wasn’t filled enough. It all tasted like it had been sat out all day and I asked for it to be made fresh. I couldn’t finish it.
Good, will come again
Good sushi all the time. Fresh. Not overly crowded like other branches.
Love the food. Spicy ramen was great
I love this sushi shop! I eat here regularly and it is the best one in Tauranga, even better than their other stores. The staff are lovely and the food is awesome!
Today was poor. They gave me take away wen i asked for dine in, didnt taste da same. Dining in tastes better.
Havent bought sushi in a long time so was looking forward to it... but very disappointed as the pack I got half the rice was still uncooked and couldnt eat most of it. Definitely put me off from buying from here again.
Used to be my favourite place ever but I ordered a gluten free pork ramen, which they changed to teriyaki chicken ramen on the till, and when I got my meal it had absolutely no meat in it and was so bland in taste I couldn’t eat it. Pretty disappointed in what was once the best sushi ever!
Beautiful hot food and the size for dollar is wholesome! Travel across town for this. 🙏
Rice was extremely dry, sushi was falling apart, avocado was brown, chicken was mincey, ginger was dark brown and dry,soy sauce tasted watered down.wouldnt recommend at all.
Always great food. Consistantly good, plus happy fiendly staff.
We have been coming here every week for 3months before we do our weekly grocery shopping. Donburi was what we got and it was outstanding. Not anymore. Youve changed it in favour of saving time but in turn youve lost 2 customers forever. The new system is waste full 4 containers per person instead of 1. Also you dont have the Japanese coleslaw anymore and youve raised the price.
Love this place! The staff are always happy and polite, the food is fresh and delicious and its always clean and tidy.If you havent ordered from the Donburi or the yaki udon, yaki soba menus I HIGHLY recommend it! Theyre made fresh and take about 10 to 15 minutes to cook depending on how busy they are, its worth the wait! They taste delicious :)
Ordered katsu don. Pork cutlet was too salty. We could not even eat. We had to order other rice. Asked the chef guy if this is normal and his attitude was very rude. Finally got the refund but he was very rude and didnt even say sorry. I recommand NOT to try this place AT ALL.
This is a very good Japanese food located in Tauranga Crossing. I ate here 3 times already and everytime the food got better. Will see you soon!
I ordered the yoki udon seafood. The food portion was too salty and the mussel was not cleaned. I think I dont need to see the mussels beard like this. Looked very scared and lost my appetite.
Love the food from here. Sushi, curries, fried chicken - its all very high quality. Good friendly service too.
Good selection and friendly staff. Hygiene needs to be improved under the Covid conditions. Tables & condiments need to be wiped after every customer and o was appalled at how people handled packages. These need to be shut away. People!!!I would go again...
Amazing food! We ordered 5 different dishes and were satisfied 100% with all of them. Highly recommend this place to eat.
I odered the spicy seafood noodles and I told her who looks like Indian, make the little bit more spicy but when I took the noodles was terribly spicy even my friends tried only one bite she said it is too spicy and asap got some trouble with her stomachwhen I ordered, the cashier was laughing at me, I knew now why she did it
Went there yesterday 10 March, food was OK, bit past its best, but it was 3pm, service was shocking, no plate, no soy, wasabi etc without paying extra, no politeness, no manners, no thank you, and after I used the wasabi mayo when it said to choose your sauce, he took it away! Horrible boring experience, been here before and it was OK, dont know that we would bother again sadly
Entered store at 8.15pm, advertised as being open until 9pm - food packed up or being thrown out, nothing on remaining boxes of sushi to tell you what it was. Got takeaway Katsu curry which was dreadful, half the usual amount of chicken, weird mix of vegetables and just a bit of sauce slapped on top. Last time we bought food it was disappointing, this time even more, we wont be coming back
Delicious food. Restaurant has outdoor and indoor seating. The shop is compact though so not much room to move about, especially if you have a stroller or a wheelchair.
Lovely, fresh sushi and I am SO stoked to see that they have started using cardboard take away containers!!! They just need to provide a regular recycling bin now, as there is only one for glass for some reason.
Indoor: I SAW A MOUSSE IN THEIR KITCHEN! YUCK!! TRY TO SELL YESTERDAYS SUSHI??Outside: Ordered tempura and wish i got plenty of shrimp but nope! They fill it with deep fried radish.WHY THEY STILL OPEN??
Its not Japanese... but its not bad! You can try their foods!

The sushi is quite expensive.Displayed nicely.Poor Hygiene as the Lady was handling money and making sushi with the same gloves for the 1/2 hour we were there.
I wonder what their hygiene status is, everything seems dirty the windows the floor, the service tray the bowel I was given. The table surfaces and outdoor there is bird pooh on every chair. Makes you wonder what the kitchen is like. Could not find their hygiene status on display anywhere. Food is good and friendly staff but when you serve raw seafood then cleanliness is a must and if little care is given at the front of house then what is it like where customers cant see. From x chefWill go back but hope they get cleaner.
Update - went back again and it is very consistent. Just as good the first time. Forgot to mention that the Japanese pop music is actually very good if are into world music.First review - We walked in just expecting sushi. Boy was I wrong. The sushi here looked very good by the looks of the salmon nigiri and the warm options and dumplings looked good as well. The sesame and garlic chicken (H5we ordered was amazing. The chicken crispy but sticky. The green onions, chilis, and large amounts of garlic just was wonderful. Be aware that you will not be able to speak to anyone after this. Lucky the wife and I shared the large serving. Looking at other tables and what they were getting and the noodles bowls were huge and inviting. Not sure what to get next time....
Nice place. 4 /5 because their sushi options are basic in comparison to what can be done. Their other options however are really good.
The selection of food is very good. Weve had omurice, ramen, sushi and the onegiri here and they were all quite good.Prices are quite reasonable but be aware that ordering food that needs to be cooked can take longer to be served if there are more customers ( e.g. lunchtime on weekends).
Yummy food in a great location. Gave them 4/5 stars because I would have liked more veggies and less rice.
Always go here when Im cravung for sushi. Huge selection from sushi to ramen. They also serve japanese alcohol.
Wide selection of sushi and donburi. Always tastes great and the staff are lovely. Alcoholic drinks available, including some Japanese beers. Highly recommend trying some of the donburi meals to get a better sense of Japanese cuisine and for a change from sushi which you can get just about anywhere these days. Personal favourites are teriyaki chicken or chicken Katsu donburi.
