Hector's Kitchen in Gadsden
Description
Privilege
All around amazing!!! Hector was so friendly and the food was the best in town! I highly recommend going out of your comfort zone!
MoreOne of the easiest 5-star reviews I’ve ever given! Food and service were exceptional, and I would order the same exact thing again…. Vegetable bowl and STREET CORN…Can’t recommend this little place enough!
MoreSecond time and everything was awesome, friendly people and great service.
Really good food..enjoyed it will go back♡
If you are looking for Columbian food in Northeast Alabama, Hectors is your place. Its as authentic as it gets around here! The food had flavor and was prepared as I remembered it from my travels. The restaurant decor pays homage to ancestors past who probably inspired the food itself. We had a smattering of everything- shared empenadas, tostones, and the Columbian Dinner entree with black beans and sweet plantains. We ate everything and walked away groaning! We will be back!Hectors Kitchen- thank you for being an original amongst the chains in our area!
MoreEverything Ive had from here is amazing, from mojitos to mofongo. This place is a gem and you wont regret it. Really unique food and a small town Cafe feel.
MoreHighly recommend the Street corn for those who want to try something different!
Great food and friendly service. Never had a bad meal!
***Hours are wrong***. Now open for BREAKFAST at 7:00 am. Also, they are open till 7 during the week and 8:00 on the weekends.Update on 5.14.22 Mask are not required.Amazing flavors!! Best food in town. Hector and his staff are amazing. Always fresh ingredients. The flavors are unlike anything you can get anywhere else. The staff is like family. If you ever have to wait on your food just know its being prepared fresh and its worth the wait.If youre new here, you cant go wrong with anything on the menu but the Coconut Wrap or a Columbian Plate are two of the most popular. The jalapeno cheese sticks are amazing. Ask for 1,000 Island dressing to go with them and thank me later. This place is a must!!
MoreI had Croquettes, Street Corn with a Mojito. It is a great little roadside mom and pop place. The food was terrific and authentic Columbian.
MoreAwesome food and great service! Best lemonade ever.. freshly made
Such a unique place for our area. The food reminds me of my travels in Central America. The staff is very friendly. There is a good variety and you can really taste the elements of the food.
MoreReally great quality food. If you want something off the highway thats not junk / fast food, this is it. The only odd thing was the queso was $9, a really small cup and pretty simple: no meat or spices etc.
MoreWhen you pull up doesnt look like much but as soon as you walk in your greeted by some amazing people the waitress was very informative she was probably the best waitress I have ever had the young lady knew every dish and could answer every question you had about the menue . Lets get to the food it was absolutely amazing you literally can not stop eating my kids stepped out of their comfort zone and ate every bite their lemonade was fresh along with their passion fruit juice Im not sure how such a wonderful place ended up in attalla Alabama but I am glad I found it
MoreA plus for presentation and vibe,B minus for the dish overall. Was in the area for work and was sold by the reviews and photos.Again,it looks authentic when plated but I wasnt sold on the seasoning.I literally returned from Cartagena a week prior and the dish lacked seasoning in comparison to the dishes I had on vacation. The pork was pretty good but the beans and rice in particular were quite bland. The bread pudding had a sponge texture so Im assuming it was microwaved for heating but not sure. The mojito was pretty good but a little on the sweet side.I also ordered two and I think its safe to say they were pretty light on the alcohol. 7 out of 10 for a local spot but Ive had alot better in Miami and Colombia itself. The Palenque figurines are a nice touch in the dining area.I chose the patio since I prefer fresh air but Im not a stranger to high temperatures.
MoreReal Cuban food. Have tried several entrees but love a good real Cuban sandwich. And they know how they are supposed to be done
MoreMy first time here. I have seen it several times. I finally decided to try it, and I was not disappointed. Food is great the service is very good, and prices are not bad at all.
MoreHectors Kitchen is a hidden jem. The menu is Columbian/Mexican and is varied with a great selection. On my last visit (with my parents for my BirthdayI had the Carne Asada and it was one of the best meals Ive ever had. The black beans are fabulous. Portions are generous and a good value for the price. I havent tried it yet but the Cuban sandwich gets rave reviews from a lot of people I know. Im looking forward to my next visit to Hectors Kitchen.
MoreAuthentic Latin food and super people. Its all about the food here - not a fancy place. Very down home. Highly recommend the coconut roll! 6/2022 update: Still great!
MoreFirst time eating Columbian Food, it was delicious, will definitely go back. Very laid back atmosphere and our server Abby was amazing. She knows everything about the food, and the history of Hector and his restaurants. Great personality. This may become a weekly date with Hector, Abby, the delicious food and fun company.!!!
MoreI ordered the Mofongo, the Colombian house speciality. It was outstanding!! My friend ordered the coconut wrap and was VERY pleased with the dish! It was the first visit to Hector’s for both of us. We had heard a lot of good things about this small, unassuming place. Everything we heard was true!! It has amazing and authentic Colombian food with a very friendly and attentive wait staff. Hector runs a “tight ship,” and his diners are loyal. Impressive ... a solid 5 Stars.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
MoreAbsolutely love eating at Hector’s! The food is always delicious, the staff is so friendly and helpful, and the mojito is to die for. My favorite thing I’ve tried (other than the mojitois the coconut wrap. But really, you can’t go wrong here. Also, the yucca fries with chimmi-mayo is a must try. As an added bonus, they have plenty of outdoor seating. Nothing beats sitting outside on a beautiful day with some good food and a refreshing drink!
MoreWe love the food and flavor of Hectors Kitchen….when they get the order right. We often order the empanadas, I’m a fan of the chicken and my wife loves the beef. If that’s what we get. The past three times we have ordered it’s like playing Russian roulette with the food. It’s like they get confused with what each one is, mispacked and not separated when we order Togo. This has happened too man time, I think I’m going to retire this place
MoreFresh ingredients, interesting flavors, and all around delicious (especially the bowls). Kind staff. Highly recommended. I hadn’t ever eaten Columbian food, and I now I am a believer. First Encanto, now this. They also feature Cuban food. Had to try their Cuban sandwich, and it was very good.My only complaint is that the chips seem like basic Sam’s Club rounds you would get with concession stand nachos. Hit us with that Hector-fresh-flair in the chip realm!
MoreBest place around for good authentic food, that’s not like anything around but awesome tasting food. I have gotten something different every time I visit, and each dish is jus as good as the next or better. It was so good me and my wife ate lunch and dinner here in the same day.
MoreGreat food. The quesadilla is amazing, the empanadas are great too. The nachos are tasty also. Cant forget the cheese sticks. Theyre one of my favorites also. The service is amazing and kind. Theyre helpful with all the questions
MoreI lived in South Florida for 20 years and ate my share of Cuban sandwiches at Cuban restaurants, Hector’s makes the BEST one I’ve had! Of you’ve never been to o Hector’s you are missing out. P.S get a side of their tasty mayo sauce and dip your sandwich in.
MoreLove to find local mom and pop places to eat. Great food and awesome service! Server was very knowledgeable of menu. If you want a nice place to eat thats not a chain restaurant, come on here.
MoreAwesome place! Well worth the time and money.Prompt delivery of food and it was delicious. I’m something of a Cuban connoisseur myself. And this one was one of the best. No mayo or mustard mix but it was tender enough I didn’t miss it. Salsa was also super good. Friendly bunch, the owner is from Columbia, and the ladies do a super good job. I also heard one guy got 12 Cubans for only $59.12 which was awesome. Check it out.
MoreDo yourself a favor and check this place. Authentic food made to perfection. Ridiculously friendly and helpful service. If you arent familiar with the menu items, they will help you, so dont shy away from something new!
MoreTasty and fresh Latin dishes. Generous portions. Reminded me of Medellin, Colombia. Only thing missing was the avocado. Roadside restaurants like Hectors are part of the local culture of Antiquena. Freindly staff and plenty of parking. Mucho Gracias
MoreLove, love, love this place! Stuck a very of authentic Columbia, Cuban, and Puerto Rican dishes. Everything from the arepas, soup, rice bowls, and Cubano was perfecting. Hidden gem! Definitely would compare to larger citys like Atlanta and Birmingham. Will be back to try more!
MoreWow! This place is tiny but the food is amazing! The coconut roll was awesome and the Attalla sunset was one of the best drinks I have ever had! A++ Our waitress was superb!
MoreA small, cozy location with incredible food and service.
The food had "ok" presentation, but the good stopped there. All of the food was very bland. I kept waiting to taste the cilantro, the habenero, the honey, anything. Very very bland, boring dishes. Pineapple ( they dont warn you abouton an iceburg salad for 8.99? My daughter got queso dip that was so watered down (literallyit ran off her chips. The soda machine must be dirty. You can taste it. It leaves a gross aftertaste of dirty. You just know . The one flavor that was in all of the 7 different things we ordered was that dirty kitchen flavor. Im sure you know it. Its the same flavor at any dirty kitchen restaurant you have experienced. I dont write these reviews to be mean, I write them to be fair and honest. Is it just my opinion? Maybe. But I try to take my personal likes out of my reviews and write from neutral common ground. I hope my negative reviews are taken as constructive honest criticism and use it to improve. Probably wont happen. But one can hope. Also the waitress didnt use a pad to take our order and forgot one thing before she even left our table and then forgot 2 of our drinks our entire time there. I didnt remind her, because, well thats not my job. Will not be returning.
MoreGreat food 😋 and great Staff! Very nice and friendly. Cant wait to go back for a visit, when we travel thrpugh again. Thank you ladies and nice meeting you!
MoreAmazingly authentic and delicious cuisine. Also, the best mojito Ive ever had.
First time trying this after hearing so much about it. I had the coconut wrap. And it was phenomenal! Son got the quesadilla and husband got a bowl. They were disappointed in their food. The salsa wasnt our favorite either. Service was friendly. Definitely order ahead, the wait was a little long
MoreWhere do I even start?!?! My husband and I drove over an hour to try Hectors Kitchen for the first time. Its Veterans Day and we are both Veterans. This place did NOT disappoint! We started with chips and salsa and the empanada. I then saw they had jalapeño cheesesticks and got back up to order those. The salsa was chunky and I hate chunky salsa. It looked like it would be bland. Boy was I wrong! I absolutely LOVED it! Full of flavor! The beef empanada came with sauce (as did our other dishes), it was not needed! The empanadas were AH-MAZ-ING!SO glad I got back up to order the jalapeño cheesesticks! They were the best cheesesticks EVER!For our main dishes, I ordered the Carne asada and hubby got the Cuban sandwich. He said the Cuban was "okay", but to be fair, he doesnt care for that kind of food.My Carne Asada was the best ever! NOTHING about that dish was lacking flavor!!! NOTHING! The plantains were sweet and savory but not too sweet. The fried plantains had cilantro and other seasonings. My rice was so full of flavor and the black beans as well! The meat was tender and I just mixed everything together and ate it because I couldnt decide what to eat first lol There was so much food that I made 3 meals out of it!The girls at the front were SO friendly! The bathroom was very clean and so cute! They have outside dining, inside dining and a take-out window. The whole place was clean. Prices were very fair and I have not one single complaint.Thank you SO much for a perfect lunch on our special day!
MoreSuper good food. We ordered traditional columbian food and drinks. I highly recommend eating there.
MoreHector’s is the hidden gem of Attalla Alabama. Authentic Cuban food, great desserts, coffees, and some really cool cocktails.
MoreHoney Habanero Wings, Coconut Wrap, Yucca with the Chimichurri sauce, and the Tostone appetizer are all a must-try. Love this place.
MoreOur appetizers and entrees were SO DELICIOUS that I forgot to take pictures!! We had the beef empanadas, croquettes, and mofongo (pork). Everything tasted amazing!! Our table of 4 wished that the food temperature would have been a little hotter with the entrees and the soup that came with them, but that was a very minor complaint. I drive an hour from home to eat here, and I will definitely be eating here again!UPDATE: Returned 1 week later to add photos of entrees!
MoreI enjoyed my meal the Grilled chicken with vegetables, however my wife did not enjoy hers. She had the beans and rice bowl with shredded chicken and the chicken was so dry and tasteless she had to scrape it off. I would be willing to give them another try with other items on the menu.
MoreMy husband and I enjoyed delicious cuban sandwiches hot of the press. A beautiful establishment with a friendly atmosphere. It was nice to meet Hector and we look forward to returning and try more of their deliciously authentic meals.
MoreGreat little place! Very friendly, very clean. The food was so good, and the house-made habanero sauce was a perfect touch to top things off. It was a surprise to find a nice little Colombian/Cuban food place in the area.
MoreI love Hectors. Excellent food and service. We always order to go, but decided to dine in today. I had The Columbian with soup and my boyfriend had the chicken bowl.
MoreThis is a Cuban restaurant. A hidden treasure in this town! The atmosphere is warm and is very stylish. It’s clean and the staff is very friendly, Stephanie was very nice and helpful. It’s eat in or walk up window on the outside if it is crowded inside.I got the chicken nachos, they were very good, white cheese, salsa, black beans, and sautéed vegetables. The Cuban sandwich was excellent, authentic bread and great tasting.I would recommend this place if you are looking for something different, Stephanie said the food is not spicy, and you will find things like coconut wraps and plantains, so check it out.
MoreA cozy Cuban-Columbian cafe with indoor and outdoor dining as well as carry-out window and catering. Delicious food! We had the Cuban sandwich and black bean rice bowl. The sampler plate looks good - will have to try it next time. They also have daily specials.
MoreExcellent island fare! The Cuban sandwich was fabulous and the coconut wrap was great as well. Check out this little gem in Attalla, AL!
