We enjoyed a trip on the tram,. Driver and conductor very friendly. We were a little disappointed that the museum was closex
Tried to engage with staff regarding a book and the price of it!! Asked her why they were two prices didnt get an answer!! Only managed to engage with her about the picture on the wall!!
Excellent tramtastic day out yesterday. Lots of trams to ride throughout the day at a very reasonable price - just £5 allowing you to hop on and off as often as you like. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who are happy to tell you the history of the individual tramcars. Great little shop and museum as well.
It was fantastic. My husband absolutely loved getting to test drive a tram as it was dream of him. Also getting to visit the engine shed was cool. Dave was full of interesting information. Its definitely worth a visit
Great set of information about old original tramways including tickets and how they work and electricity powers the tramway. Has some up to date information about modern trams used such as the Manchester Metrolink. You can ride on an older tram from the museum to the lakeside and back for £2. The trams they use rotate but only 1 is ever in service per day. The rides operate Sundays from 12 with occasional Saturdays
Good tramways for kids
All in all a reasonable day, if your into trams and transport, mostly outside so be aware of what the weather could be like in the UK.
Really good visit. Very friendly and helpful volunteers. Extremely interesting. Good value £5 to ride on the tram all afternoon. Buy your ticket on the tram.
A small museum near the Middleton Road entrance to the park. During the summer months, you can ride the beautiful old trams from the museum to the boating lake and back. Great experience and really friendly staff
Wasn’t open yet but will go back
The Heaton Park Tramway is a heritage tramway that operates within Heaton Park, a large municipal park in the English city of Manchester. It is operated by the Manchester Transport Museum Society, a registered charity. In normal times, the tramway operates on Sunday afternoons between March and mid-November and on Saturday afternoons between May and mid-September. Operation may be suspended whilst major events are being held in the park, and is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Heaton Park was originally the private landscape park surrounding Heaton Hall, but was sold to Manchester City Council in 1902 for use as a municipal park. Shortly after the park was bought by the council, a branch of Manchester Corporation Tramways was built 280 yards (260 minto the park from the existing tramway on Middleton Road. A large waiting shelter was constructed at the end of this branch, and the first tram arrived on 31 May 1903. By 1934 buses were taking over from trams and the stub tramway into the park was disconnected from the main system and covered in tarmac for use by buses. The Manchester Transport Museum Society (MTMSwas founded as a registered charity in the early 1960s, with the aim of the preservation of documents and artifacts relating to public transport in the Manchester region. An early project of the society was the restoration of Manchester Corporation Tramways 765, which had been found on a farm near Huddersfield. The restoration was carried out partly at the National Tramway Museum at Crich in Derbyshire, and partly at various borrowed workshops around Manchester, and once completed the car ran for a couple of seasons at Crich. However the MTMS had aspirations to operate the car in Manchester, and identified Heaton Park as a possible site.In the 1970s the society approached the city council with this idea. The initial plan, to construct a tramway from Grand Lodge to Heaton Hall, was considered too expensive, as it would require remedial works to carry it across the railway tunnel. A new scheme was proposed to open up the old Manchester Corporation Tramways spur from Middleton Road to the old tram shelter. The original track was buried under a layer of tarmac which was cleared and the tram shelter restored and modified to form a depot and museum. Work was completed in 1979 and the Heaton Park Tramway was officially opened on 28 March 1980.Since 1980, the museum tramway has been extended further into the park on three occasions, using track salvaged from elsewhere, and is now some 1 kilometre (0.62 milong. The most recent extension was in 2011 and reaches the boathouse and lake. A new tram depot has been constructed at this terminus. Additionally, major restoration of the original depot and museum complex was completed in 2007.Overhauls to Stockport 5 are now complete, Vanguard 619 is now the main focus of priority for the tramway. A funding appeal will soon start for extension of the Lakeside depot in order to provide space for the T68 being preserved to move to the tramway. Future projects include the restoration of Manchester Corporation Tramways open top tram 173 built in 1901, Blackpool Balloon 702, Oldham 43 built in 1902 and the Blackpool railgrinder No. 752. Plans exist for a further extension of the tramway towards Heaton Park Metrolink stop.
A great place to visit and to take a ride on a lovely old tram. The trams are restored and operated by volunteers.

Brilliant visit to the Heaton Park Tramway and Transport Museum this afternoon. Had an excellent ride on the tram to finish the season. The volunteers are really knowledgable and were brilliant with our children. Will definitely visit again.
Enjoyable short ride in a vintage restored tram. Choice of tram on busy days. Interesting little museum which is free to visit. Good for nostalgia, those interested in old transport and fun for children.
A superb tramway running between the parks Middleton Road gates and Boating Lake at weekends during the spring, summer and early autumn, Sundays only in October. Its, operated by a small group of friendly, dedicated volunteers using beautifully preserved vintage trams. It runs along a variety of scenic sections with handy stops/pick ups along the way. The Boating Lake has a cafe area with good toilet facilities. The tramway also has a museum and shop. I was treated to a 5 hour tram driving experience for my birthday... it was excellent, I was made very welcome.
A excellent day out! The Ribble 100 & X60 exibets were at the Mnchester Trandport Museum, the Museum is a good place to see lot of old buses & coachs.

If you have a soft spot for trams in a rural setting its a wonderful hidden gem x
Great little museum, not very big but certainly has plenty of info
Great place and really nice people who happily tell you about the trams
The Heaton park tramway team were great hosts for a group of our Scouts setting a new world record #railwayrecord to raise funds to go to the 2019 world Scout jamboree. Thank you so much for your help.Loads of history, some superbly restored trams and a good length of line to experience it. Good little shop, friendly, helpful staff and well worth a visit.
An ambition achieved! Have wanted to visit this tramway for decades. Used to believe that it was only open on Sundays, but it is open on Saturdays and Bank Holidays too. A good run and the volunteers are lovely. Complete bonus too - you can get there by tram!!!
Heaton park is good to go to if you want a day out with family or if you have dogs take them there
Great to see these old trams restored and running.
I have been to visit this wonderful Tramway in Heaton Park whilst attending the Heaton Park Bus Rally. The Volunteers work very hard.
lots of old trains very interesting. worth a visit if you like trains
I am biased as I volunteer here! We love our heritage trams, and Heaton 0ark is a lovely setting for our tramway.
The kids enjoyed exploring the tramway, and the volunteers there are friendly. Hit and miss with opening times though - its never clear if and when the tramway is going to be open.
Its a step back in time and allows you to gently travel from Heaton Park gates to the boating lake in Victorian style.
Excellent visit, I came with work and as I drive for a living, it was a treat and great experience to drive the tram thankyou to Derek x
