The beautiful area of sevan lake.I stayed 2 days in sevan lake and used one day for a little walking around here.The monestry was surrounded by many rocks, sometimes you can see cows walking around.If you go there in the afternoon, the sunlight will be not reflect for the monestry.You can take great pictureSo quiet and calm place.Worth to visit there.

Beautiful abandoned monastery.

Монастырь также носит интересное название “Мардахавняц” (“мард” – человек, “ахавни” - голубь). Таким названием монастырь обязан красивой легенде. Согласно ей в 1381 году во время вторжения в Армению Тамерлана в церкви укрылись тысячи мирных армян. Чтобы избежать гибели от рук захватчиков местный священник Ован вознес молитву и сила реликвии Креста Господня обратила людей в голубей, которые смогли улететь на волю.

One of the best monasteries for sightseeing, atmosphere and architecture (better than kor virap and sevanavank, personal opinion)

Живописно расположенный на скале классический армянский средневековый монастырь с прекрасным видом на озеро Севан. Сам монастырь очень маленький, внутри приходится постоянно сгибаться. Очень много интересных хачкаров. Особенно красивы и живописны хачкары у края скалы - невероятный контраст красного туфа, синих вод озера, серых гор на фоне и синего неба. Заехали сюда по пути случайно. Но к посещению обязательно!

The church at Hayravank was built during the late 9th century. It is a quatrefoil cruciform central-plan structure with four semi-circular apses that intersect to create squinches for the octagonal drum and conical dome to stand above. A small chapel was added in the 10th century, accessed from the southeastern corner of the church. A single portal leads into the church from the gavit, it is believed that this entry was added between the 12th and 13th centuries.

Such an underrated, gorgeous monastery built in the early 9th century! The views of Sevan from this angle are equally, if not more beautiful as those from Sevanavank!

This monastery is small but well preserved. It is less frequented by tourists and offers stunning views of Lake Sevan. There are a number of superb khachkars.

Храм 5 века, красивый, небольшой. Туристов не очень много (в отличие от Севанаванка). Нас поразил дьякон Ваге, который тут служит. Думаю, он прозорливый. Обязательно заезжайте в это прекрасное место и поговорите с дьяконом. Наша встреча стала главным чудом в путешествии по Армении.

Hayravank Monasterio del Padre es una iglesia medieval de piedra rojiza. Sobre un promontorio con bellas vistas al lago Seván y con varios jachkares, típicos de la cultura armenia. Esta un poco alejado pero recomendable.

A very beautiful place

This is an hidden jem. Its not marked on the guides (like lonely planetbut it deserves a visit. Its better than Sevan monastery.

Legendary monastery

Une vue sur le lac Sevan magnifique et une église des plus poétique, surtout si on y ajoute la légende des 1000 hommes-colombes (1000 prisonniers dun château proche transformés en colombes par le prête local pour retrouver leur liberté, ou plus sûrement qui aurait utilisé un souterrain reliant le château à léglise... vous lavez trouvé ?). Très beau khatchkar et belles gravures.

After have seen lots of churches on top of mountains, this one is on the lake and this is its best feature, since it has nothing spectacular as other can have. But its a good pit stop if coming after some hours of driving.

What makes this church interesting is once you know it was deliberately made simple, as the religious belief at the time was that too beautiful church ornaments would distract prayer
