Classic Hawaiian comfort dishes are served at this casual establishment with a cheerful atmosphere.
Drop whatever you are doing and run to this place to eat!!! While writing this review I’m eating the original Poke Bowl. And it’s hands down the best Poke I had in Hawaii. The portions are also very generous. Thank you guys, keep up the great quality 👌🏾
Really good food in a relaxed atmosphere. Kalau Hash was great tasting, the pancakes are huge and truly cakey. I really appreciated that when I asked for my hash browns to be really crispy they were.
Long wait, but definitely worth it. The best Hawaiian restaurant in town. Delicious & large portions at affordable price. Note that there may be additional charge for sharing meals.
Delicious large portions of food. Large room in back for big groups. If there is a tour bus, come back another day because the wait time can be long. Upgrade to a haupia pancake on your breakfast meal and you wont regret it! They have a digital check-in system that allows you to see your order in line and how long until your table is ready. Located near other great local shops worth checking out. Every item we ordered was delicious.
MUST DO IN HILO. I can’t say enough about this place!!!!!! We ate here 3 times, once for breakfast and twice for lunch! Their pancakes are the size of a spare tire! What’s more impressive is all the scrap food goes to feed local farm life so there’s no waste. You have to checkin through an iPad at the door. It’s easy to miss. ITS ALWAYS BUSY AND THERES A REASON FOR THAT! This place would be a GOLD MINE IN NEW JERSEY. Their prices are super reasonable, especially for great food.Staff is PHENOMENAL! Friendly and helpful. All spent time with us telling us their stories and recommending things to do. I did a traditional breakfast first, a pastrami Sandwich for lunch ( HUGEand last a local meal of meats and rice. INCREDIBLE. My wife did banana nut pancakes, one of there poke bowls for lunch and and a meat platter as well third time. These pictures do not do justice. They close from 2-5,so we just did lunch and breakfast. Please make it a point to patron this place. I went everywhere in Hilo from Top Notch to Huts. Hawaiian Style Cafe was unquestionably my favorite and I will always remember it. Thank you to everyone employee who makes this the Hope Diamond of Hilo!!!!
Long wait, but the food came really quick. We ordered the cheeseburger omelet, French toast, and pancakes and they did not disappoint! Well worth the wait.
Massive pancakes 🥞 very Ono food. The selection is very unique. Makes you want to try everything on the menu. The price is reasonable for the portion sizes here.
Ono food and even better service!!! Huge portions, was not disappointed with a single thing we ordered!!Pictured:Waipio BowlDeluxe Fried Saimin
My wife and I were recommended this place by a local so we decided to come in to have a quick bite and almost immediately 2 different staff members seemed to be irritated that we walked through the door. They werent necessarily rude but their body language and short communication gave us a negative vibe.My main issue as you can see on the receipt we were charged an additional $2.95 for sharing 1 burger and fries. They never even bothered to mention that there would be such a charge. Ive eaten all over the world and this is the first time ive seen that before. Had we been informed we could have easily ordered more or decide to try someplace else. The restaurant wasnt full so its not like we were taking away a table from other customers that would have potentially ordered more. I will say however the food was good but we left with a sour taste in our mouths.
I got the Korean chicken and my husband got the Mok-a-sauras. His was so crazy you’ll have to order it for yourself because I didn’t even take a photo. The Korean chicken says spicy but it isn’t — it’s just seasoned (which made it tasty). My Mango-colada was like an amazing milkshake and priced nicely compared to other restaurants we’ve visited on our trip. There wasn’t a wait either and that was nice since we didn’t want to get strict in our schedule with reservations all the time. Thanks!
Just WOW! Serving sizes are huge and amazing! Try the nachos and Mok-A-Sauras! The pancakes are soo good!
We went here for breakfast after hiking. We got there about 845am on a Thursday and had a 5 min wait. When we left there was a much longer wait. The service was excellent and very friendly. We ordered one Haupia (coconut creampancake. It tasted like coconut cake and was delicious. We also shared the mok a sauras and had to box most of it. It has so many different meat options and tasted great all together. A little salty after the sweet pancake but still great flavor in all the meat.
Great food. There was a bit of a wait, but the food was worth it. They have a great menu that has a good variety of kinds of food. Definitely would recommend.
Delicious food. I had the hash and eggs with pancakes and everything was amazing. Portion is huge. Biggest pancakes I have ever seen!
7/2022Ive been to the Waimea location a few times. Both have their own personality and this one is good as well. I rarely have luck on the Pulehu Ribs being available but, oh well. I primed fir the Prime Rib Loco Moco Special. The gravy rocked it over the top. Onolicious! Either location, youll wait, but oh so worth it! 😉🤙✌️
Found while traveling through Hilo. Absolutely worth the 40 minute wait. The pancakes are a must but beware, they are addictive and you’ll just keep eating. Worth a food coma. Would give 6 stars if I could.
Really enjoyed the haupia pancakes, Korean pork plate, and the poke. The poke wasnt the greatest ever, but it was good. Portions were big. Kids options were great.
I haven’t been this satisfied after a meal in a while. We ordered family style and got the mac nut pancake with haupia sauce, kalua hash with a side of French toast, da big Mok loco moco, and a side of hash browns.Definitely order family style so you can taste everything. We arrived around 920am and put our names on the waitlist and walked around the plaza for 30 minutes. There’s limited outdoor seating, but the indoor was plenty airy and spacious with fans. Loved the food and will consider going again in Waimea.
As we left the volcanoes national Park we were heading back to Kona via Hilo when we noticed that this place was featured as the top 10 of Diners Drive Ins and Dives in Hilo, so we thought we stopped for dinner there and it was fantastic. Between the service being fantastic and the meal be an amazing especially the coconut cream pie we found the entire meal and experience to be quite pleasurable. I would highly recommend if you’re in the area stop by the place and enjoy their food.
The waiting time for dine-in was 40-55 minutes, so we chose takeout instead. We were told it would need 20 mins, but it was in fact faster. Both meal came with a decent portion, and they both tasted pretty good! We would probably come back again if we visited Hilo in the future.
The only highlight was Ikaika, who saved the day by fixing the ice cream machine and getting us our shakes. Thank you sir for keeping us from disappointment. I hope I got your name right. 5 stars. The food that eventually came is nice. But the people make the experience. And on this trip and for us they didn’t. 1 star. The woman standing up front was power tripping. There was a bench where we saw some ppl sitting, so when they left we sat there. (Mind you, this is not the one with a sign that said don’t sit on this bench). This woman instead of just asking us to wait on the outside gave us a whole condescending, loud, and unnecessarily stern social distancing etc. lecture. This is when she herself isn’t wearing a mask, and lots of ppl congregating in the area to pay their checks. Common, don’t be mean to us. Just tell us where to wait and we will! We are nice people, how about that welcoming spirit and niceness and all???Later, when we got a message that your table is ready, and she still made us wait another 8 minutes because she “want to take two parties in there together”. Why? We are here, we don’t have to be delayed for another party’s behavior.A lot of stuff was unavailable. That is ok, but how about telling us that such and such is not available today, before making us go through and make choices. Then letting us down. The food came in parts. My omelette first, and when I have gone through most it, the accompanying waffle, and later everyone else’s food. Our server checked on us once, and was generally overworked/checkout out. I get it, we are all overworked, but still this is a low bar.A couple of other ppl did ask us how is everything and they appeared nice and friendly.Oh! And my coffee never came.
We had dinner here last night after wanting to try this place out for a long time! The wait wasn’t bad, google said the place wasn’t too busy but the wait was still around 30 minutes. It was worth the wait! We started with the fries which were crispy and hot. All of the food we got was delicious and great portions! If you’re a family that likes to eat then this is the place for you! Make sure to check out for the specials on the tv’s and ask the server what they’re current out of! We had several items be out and not be told of until the moment we ordered. Not a huge deal but always nice to know and not get your hopes up. Anyway, try this place out!
Absolutely fantastic breakfast place, I ordered the Haupia pancakes, which are made with coconut pudding... really good, tasty without being overly sweet. Husband ordered the Kalua hash & eggs, which he enjoyed very much. The waitress showed us how to save a few $ because I wanted a side of eggs with my pancakes. Great service, good coffee. The restaurant is open more hours, its listed as closing at 1:30, but it didnt, we left after 2pm & people were still coming in & being seated.
Best place in Hawaii for taste and value! Got the Traditional Hawaiian Loco Moco, Spicy Poke Bowl, and the Da Tika Mok. The gravy base for the mokos was the best on all the islands we ever had! That poke was the perfect blend of spicy and flavor. These meals are so savory and worth the trip! Top off with their Mauna Kea Iced Coffee, not sweet and great taste for a good caffeine pick-me-up!!Come hungry there is a lot of food, but they do donate the scraps to local pig farms if you cannot finish it!
Best pancake i have ever eaten anywhere and it was as big as the plate. I didnt even add syrup it was perfect with just butter. Bacon, eggs and hashbrown was a perfect meal before volcano climbing. Everyone else loved their food as well.
Great food, huge portions, and friendly staff! My group had a loco moco, poke, coconut pancakes, ribs and letchu and everyone loved their dish. Our only regret is getting it the last day of our trip. Well definitely be back next time were on the island.
A long wait at the beginning. But food was delicious. Recommend the Banana Macadamia Nut pancakes.
Super long wait both outside and in, seems to be a very popular place. Very nice interior and atmosphere, very clean restrooms which Ive learn is a privilege not a right in a lot of establishments on the Big Island. They have generous portions of food for sure! The Moco Loco was good, but the macaroni salad wasnt quite as good as other establishments we ate at. If you like the macaroni salad less sweet it might be better for your taste buds though. Worth a stop if you have some time
Our waitress was great. Pua did her job well checking on us throughout our breakfast. She was fast and polite. A great asset to the Cafe.
I had a really good Breakfast. Price was good and food was great. One problem I did not get to finish my food. Had to get a to go box. I will be having dinner there tonight
Yummy! This Hawaiian style breakfast is so ono. Choose from fresh papaya and lime, loco moco, huge pancakes, waffles and my daughters favorite spam and rice.
Food is good, but you dont get much for the price. Felt like I should have stayed home after having one (1waffle at $10!
Huge pancakes. First place I ate visiting Hawaii. Friendly staff, they use yelp for queue control, so make sure to check the waiting list before going. Food was tasty big portions come hungry.
Mixed reviews from our group- those of us who got more authentic Hawaiian food were very happy, those who got more typical "American" food were less impressed. The service was incredibly fast though- we were blown away by how fast the food came out! It also looks like breakfast food is served all day long so that is fun too.
We really enjoyed the food and the service! Portion are large and a great value for the money and local taste! Will come back soon💯
Very tasty food. Great prices. Very large portions. The sides are like an entire meal. I had the KALUA HASH, which was tasty but surprisingly small in size compared to the sides it came with (see picture). My husband had the HAWAIIAN STYLE LOCO MOCO and it was great. The dessert (liliko piewas awesome. I love that the food scraps go to a local hog farm.
Love this spot! As soon as you walk in , you are greeted with a smile and an "Aloha!" welcome.THE SERVICE:The host/manager (Jeffreyis very prompt about greeting you and also seating you.I was able to witness this over and over as it got busier and busier throughout the breakfast rush hour.Service was very consistent for all the workers there. You can tell they run a tight ship! I was very impressed at the 5 star excellent service I received. As soon as I sat down I was greeted by another service/hostess/waitress who took my drink order within like 30 seconds of me sitting down.My Waitress (Heatherwas very attentive, friendly and on top of it.THE FOOD:There were so many delicious looking options on the menu , but I opted for the Omelette. It came with my choice of hash brown or rice, and pancake or waffle. (I ordered hash brown and 🧇 waffle - SO ONO!!!!!I would fly back to Hilo just to eat this same thing. The homemade whipped butter was to die for. It went beautifully with the soft but just crispy enough waffleTHE PARKING:Lots of parking available in the parking lot next to restaurant. Its a one way so you can loop around to find more Parking.
Best breakfast in downtown Hilo!! The Haupia (Coconut Creampancakes are the absolute best!! You also have to try the mixed plate with garlic chicken and Kalbi ribs with rice and mac salad. What makes this place so special is the staff and their spirit and heart. You definitely feel like Ohana when visiting. Will be back again soon...
Always a must stop wen I come home! Best pulehu lamb eva!! Poke nachos was pretty good to🤙🏽all dey food always so ono!!
Favorite food joint on Big Island by a long shot. Excellent service, large portions and comfortable prices. Just wish they were open all afternoon!
For a Friday night it wasnt too crowded. Didnt have to wait too long for a table. We ordered the Wailoa poke bowl...OMG its so delicious! Its a large bowl with ahi poke, garlic chicken & garlic shrimp all on a bed of rice. So flavorful. Its a large serving so if you hungry this is a perfect dish!
Went in today and had the Kailua pork nachos with BBQ sauce on the side (they were really goodand a loco moco which unfortunately was over cooked and charred. The wait to be seated was very short. The service was fast and responsive.Ultimately the food is what cost them the stars on this and it’s sad as most reviews compliment the food and I feel that for the loco moco especially the mark was missed this round.
These guys get 5 stars because the service was amazing and the kids loved the food! We let the host know we had a plane to catch and we ordered, ate, and paid for 10 people (6 of which were kidsin less than 30 minutes. It was nothing short of a miracle and we are so happy they accommodated us. The kids loved their pancakes, the burger was huge, and the Loco Moco was classic Hawaii. The mac salad has peas and I think tuna in it for a nice change. Would definitely go back for the breakfast options next time.
Vegetarian options were on point. Happily satisfied with the volcano omelet and a side of French toast. My family were also very happy with there food. This is a must if you are at the big island on Hilo side.
Food is Amazing/ BIG🤩 You will get a lot for you menu!! And if you are getting pancakes 🥞 make sure to get the coconut syrup it’s ON Point with the local favorite of Hawaii. And the server are AMAZING as well!! They made the whole experience worth making a review and make me wanted to come back.. Hospitality is super important to me and then the Food.. please visit for yourself. ALOHA
Hawaiian Style Cafe is one of my favorite places on the Big Island. The food here is so good. So authentic. I eat here at least once every time I return. My favorite dish is the Garlic Chicken. But honestly, everything on the menu here is made with love and you will like it if you order it!
Great food, great service, my family loved it! This is the best Hawaiian food we have had in Hilo, very reasonable prices for excellent food. Highly recommend!
This place was great, I would highly recommend! I ordered a fresh plate of pineapple sausage for breakfast w/ rice and eggs. It also came with a perfectly cooked Hawaiian waffle. The sweetest most fluffy waffle Ive ever had. I will definitely be dining here again once I travel to Hilo.
Actual hours may vary. There may be a line outside to be seated. Outstanding COVID-19 precautions. Delicious ample portions. Turkey bacon appreciated. The ribeye was cooked perfectly at medium-rare. Soft poached eggs were perfect. Service was fast but they forgot our toast. Bloody Mary drink was rimmed with table salt (gross), and the drink it’s self was below average for flavor.
This place was truly delicious. Our food was cooked perfectly, and the portions are very generous. You have to try the pancakes here, they enormous and of course fluffy. The hospitality was also worth mentioning, everyone was warm and friendly from beginning to end.
