The whole experience was amazing. I was a bit surprised at how big the place was and how busy it was. The buffet gets very busy and we booked the a la carte option for a more intimate dining experience. Our waitress was Jessica and she was absolutely excellent. Very polite, did not rush us, kept us informed as the main was a bit delayed and was great overall. The food was very nice. It was very well put together and it was getting towards the level of some of the fine dining Michelin star restaurants I have been to.For us, the highlight was the service and we hope the feedback is viewed by Jessicas management.5*****
MoreMost definitely the best vegetarian restaurant I’ve been in my life. Buffet and a la carte are both marvelous. Also great atmosphere. Thank you 👍🏾
MoreThe staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. Everybody works super efficently and is providing a great experience. The food is of course amazing as well. The restaurant space is additionally very pretty and stylish.
MoreWe had a great breakfast. Everything is delicious. I wonder what they do with pumpkin here — the tastiest pumpkin I’ve ever had. Good coffee, nice music, lovely staff.
MoreProbably the best vegetarian restaurant I have ever been to. Wonderful atmosphere and high quality food. The buffet is amazing and offers various kinds of dishes. Indian food, healthy vegetables, nuggets, rice, noodles and of course desserts.
MoreVery interesting concept with buffet and fees based on weight.Quite a number of choices and food are well prepared!Have very informative on each dishes so you can manage your dietary such as spicy, nuts allergy....Staffs are friendly, is just not all of them can speak English, but they still tried their best to serve you, salute! They have complimentary tap water, feel free to serve yourself!Oldest vegetarian restaurant (at Europe, as advertised), but indoor is modern with well decoration!
MoreGreat delicious food and amazing serving. Highly recommend!
The buffet had lots of great options, and everything tasted delicious and fresh! You get your plate downstairs by the buffet, fill it up with your choices of food and then weigh it, get a ticket and your server scans it. The price is based on weight, and the picture Im adding to my review was $32. I was full when I left and satisfied. The only thing I was kinda turned off by, was that our server was quite rude when I had just a few questions about the process, since Id never been here before and while I was eating, she reached over my plate to scan the ticket and then scratched her initials or something on it with her pen... it was as if I needed to pay up so I asked, shall I pay you now? She mumbled something like nah, you pay before you leave.....ok?! So settle down with your scanner that looks like a credit card machine while Im eating, please! Lol! All in all it was a great experience otherwise. Maybe she was just having a bad night, It happens! Highly recommend, excellent flavors, wonderfully done.
MoreVegan paradise. Loved the concept, amazing food, great choices, everything marked with signs Vegan, absolutely amazing.
MoreAbsolutely amazing food! Huge choice of vegetarian dishes. Desserts are delicious. Strongly recommended. It is just sad to see so much litter on the streets nearby and in general in the Wiedikon area which of course is not the fault of the restaurant…
MoreGreat service and ambience, and a beautiful restaurant. But the food was disappointing (house brew draft was superb though). I ordered the Bratwurst, and absolutely everything was over salted, almost as if it was done intentionally to mask the flavours of the soy protein in the bratwurst. The portion was also small for the price (the two bratwursts were extremely thin and flat). Overall a disappointing experience, having tasted far better vegetarian restaurants overseas.
MoreLoved the concept we‘ve had a lovely flag white with oat milk & vegan pastry.
1898, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Very cool ambience, quick, professional and nice service. Few dishes on the menu or you can enjoy the bigger buffet. Very taste and delicious food. Juices are so good. They have also wine. In the morning the buffet for breakfast is unique. Enjoy.
MoreVisited it since its the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. To be honest the food was okay. I had the cordon bleu with sweet potato fries which was decent and my partner had the bratwurst with rosti which wasnt as nice. It was very salty. Overall pretty one dimensional food but still an interesting visit.
MoreThis is the second restaurant I have seen charging customers with the weight of the food items they consume. Thd first one was in Czech Republic.
MoreThe food is great! The buffet is so big and there are so many varieties. Unfortunately, I filled my dish with the salads and sides and didn’t even try the main dished but they look so appetising. Totally recommend it! I might even come back for dinner.
MoreAbsolutely delicious vegetarian / vegan cuisine in the very center of Zurich. Friendly warm service as well. Be aware the full service restaurant is upstairs.
MoreAte here again yesterday, as always the food was great but I have to mention about the service. For the second time we were seated in the raised area on the ground floor at the back, nothing wrong with that in itself but for the second time the service was really poor. We noticed around us other diners were also not happy with the service. The waiting was annoying, plates were not cleared quickly enough and just a general lack of attentiveness. Needs to be improved when a buffet dinner costs close to CHF200 for a family of 4.
MoreYou cannot go wrong here! Amazing vegetarian dishes even for carnivores! 😁
Had a mix of a La carte (portions are quite large!and the buffet selection (super tasty). I ordered off the seasonal menu - roasted beet with emmer risotto and dried fruit.. not sure if it was worth $30 but it was pretty dang amazing. Super high quality ingredients and way of preparation. Buffet also has really fresh ingredients although not as bougie as ala carte. Ambiance is also really upscale for a buffet- could do a nice-ish date or team dinner here. Would definitely be back!!
MoreSimply perfect. One of our favorite places! Vegan/Vegetarian or not, everybody we’ve been there with loved it. You can go casual, opting for the buffet, and sit outside on the lovely patio or indoors at the bar area. Or, you can book a table and get full service for a lovely dining experience (with both a la carte and buffet options available). A must try when in Zurich!
MoreA Zurich institution. Sit down service was efficient and effective. Food options, for being vegetarian, were pleasantly diverse and plentiful. I had the Korean cauliflower for appetizer and the cordon blue for main course; the cauliflower was great and the cordon blue was a really interpretation. Everything was enjoyable and we will definitely be back!
MoreA very big choice of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Most of them delicious. Buffet style. The best time to go is lunch time as it is easy to get a table then.
MoreGreat buffet style easy setup take a plate and find a seat. A bit on the expensive side but food was good
MoreI will start with a wow. What a great dining experience I had in Hiltl today. First of all, I was attended by a very attentive and professional person called Erika. From that on, I asked and trusted Erikas suggestions for the full dinner. She suggested the following course:1. Ginger Lemon Lemonade (as an initial drink together with sparkling water)2. Korean Style Cauliflower (as a starter)3. Hiltl Pulled BBQ Burger with Sweet Potato Fries (as the main dish)4. Apple Fritters with Vanilla Ice Cream (as dessert)5. Hiltl Prosecco (for accompanying the dessert)6. Lemon Thyme Lemongrass TeaIt turned out that Erikas suggestions were simply phenomenal, 10/10 without hesitation. The attached photos show how well the dishes were presented. Total cost of the dinner was < 95 CHF.I strongly recommend this place and I will be back soon. Thank you!
MoreAs a middle aged, beer drinking, meat smoking man, this place was great. Great flavors. And buffet style and pay by weight is a cool way to do it.
MoreWe didnt try the pay by weight option as we didnt know which entrees we would like. So, we went with the Pricey buffet option of CHF 59.99 per person. Everything we have tried were all good 👍, so its worthy of the price.
MoreVegetarian Buffet - this place is very over priced. It says all you can eat buffet when it’s not. You weigh your plate and it’s 48€ per KG. We didn’t know this until we went for round 1 of eating and our plates were well over 30€ each. The food was decent but nothing special. A lot of it was Indian or middle eastern dishes that weren’t even close to tasting as good as authentic Indian food. I would never eat the buffet again. The a la carte restaurant looks like a much better experience.78€ (Swiss franksfor 2 people, 1 plate each at the buffet, no drinks. This is insane. I’ve been to high end brunch buffets with endless options for $50 a person Canadian that was much better.
MoreDo you want to go to the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world? If so, this is the place to go. I highly recommend going with the buffet which uses a novel way of determining how much you pay: by how much weight you have on each plate. The food is a combination of Indian and European, with a wide selection of salads, appetizers, warm dishes, and desserts. A lot of the dishes are vegan and are marked as such. It’s almost impossible to try everything here, will require multiple trips.
MoreNot completely understandable system of buffet, I just understand that breakfast cost 25 CHF - plate+coffee+orange juice
MoreExcellent food across many cuisines and myriad options. Reasonable prices, you pay by weight for what you eat + drinks. Loved visiting and would love to return!
MoreGreat vegetarian restaurant. No wonder they’re the oldest in the world.
Such a unique place with a variety of options for everyone. Be casual, dressed up or anything in between -mixed vibe. Recommend the buffet to try more things, many great dishes
MoreAmazing variety of vegetarian dishes from various cultures. They taste authentic and flavourful.
MoreSuch a wide variety of delicious vegetarian cuisine--my plate ended up looking like a random mix of different cultures, but everything was so tasty! I wish I had room to try everything, but will just have to come back another time :I bought the Meat the Green cookbook as well, inspired to cook more vegetarian dishes.
MoreOur friends introduced us to this amazing place. Its a buffet style, you take your plate and choose what youll eat.. Various choices, whatever you imagine, its there :and after all the savory, comes the dessert 😏 coffee is also very good (cappuccino)! Not too expensive for Zurich style of living 😊 we ate here 2 times in a row :)
MoreRosti is the rare standout among the buffet dishes, most of which are quite average... And overpriced considering the commonality of these dishes in Asia. Al fresco its by a busy road, and very annoying given the traffic
MoreDon’t be scared by the World Oldest Vegetarian restaurant. It is as modern as it gets. Go in take a plate and pick what you want and then head to the cashier to pay. Do it first for your mains, and the second time round for desserts if you want so. I highly recommend the latter as well. As a very picky vegetarian eater, Haus HITL is definitely up there amongst it. I would come back and eat every lunch and dinner in Zurich if I could. Trust me, it is that good. Helps that it was near my hotel as well. Good central location.
MoreI love the food at Hiltl - as a vegetarian/vegan, this is my favorite restaurant in Zürich. I brought my whole family who is not vegetarian and they loved it! Particularly the dessert! We love this place.
MoreOLDEST VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT IN THE WORD! And it was amazing ! Oh and don’t forget the DRINKS ! They do have a buffet with lower prices In the lower floor.
MoreWonderful experience with wide range of choices and most importantly is all of them tasted great! Will definitely visit again before Im leaving Zurich.
MoreDelicious vegetarian food (big spread!- you can choose from the cold/hot dishes + desserts! The staff will weigh your plate and you just have to pay for the amount of food you took. There is also a restaurant inside and you can order from the menu ala carte.
MoreAmazed at how they could come up with so many vegetarian dishes and was definitely greedy with the amount of food I have taken hehe.If you opting for the self service buffet, just walk in, take a plate, fill it up and pay at the counter. You can also show your vaccination Cert while paying. Then proceed to any of the self service tables (they have a sign on itand enjoy your meal. My favorite dish of all was this layered pumpkin. The host at the front door was polite and helpful. Same for the waiters who helped to clear the plates. Will definitely be back!
MoreThey say this is the worlds oldest vegetarian restaurant still open in the original building. It has a very wide selection of vegetarian and vegan foods and dishes. You put everything you like on your plate or in a takeout box and then pay by weight. A large plate will cost you around 20 francs. The dishes Ive tried were interesting and delicious. This place is definitely a must if you are on Zurich.
MoreWorks like a buffet, pays for weight, so you can choose what you like, lots of vegan dished and GF is labeled, large choice, good drinks, became our favorite in. Zurich. We recommend to visit!
MoreIt was quite impressive to find a vegetarian restaurant that is so old! We were delighted to look at the menu and find some good dishes to choose from (we went to for the al a carte optionon day-1 and I had the delicious Thai green curry. On day-2 (had to come back), we choose the buffet option which was great as well because we got to taste a variety of dishes on offer.
MoreJust perfect.Prices were suprisingly good (for a restaurant in Switzerland). My food was amazing, tasty and perfectly seasoned. The staff was friendly and I enjoyed every minute there.Online reservation worked like a charm. Will visit this place again, when I return to Zürich in the future sometime.
MoreAmazing veggie buffet, most of the options are vegan and EVERYTHING is incredibly tasty!!! 😍🌿❤️ Even non-vegetarian will love it.They also have a menu, but I think picking a bit of many different things its a lot more fun... You pay by the weight of your plate. Its the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world, but thats not as important as the extraordinary quality of the food ✨
MoreThe food was good, but not as good as we expected. The service however was bad... We waited long to be approached each time and the waiter wasnt very nice, he didnt seem to care about our order or explain the dishes to us
MoreOne of my favorite restaurants in Zurich, perfect for literally any occasion and time of the day-brunch/ lunch/ dinner. Food is just outstanding and the atmosphere is excellent. Also teas/ coffees are delicious.
