Hartley Coffee House and Farm Shop - Farm shop in Kent, United States
Quality produce a super café and a top quality fishmongers... quite rare these days.
What a lovely find. A little bit of a trip for us - But the bakers has the best selection of tasty cakes, pastries and a large selection of breads. so for us, its worth the trip on a Saturday or Sunday morning once in a while to get some fresh breakfast for the family. or Meat for a Sunday roast. The shop is well stocked with top quality items and brands. The deli has a larger selection than most supermarkets. The butchers is exceptional, well stocked and quality meat.Service in the shop has always been friendly and professional. The coffee shop was a little slow and unorganised - but this area is being renovated now, so hope this will follow the rest of the overall shop. Also a fish Mongers - in an attached room - but havent visited this so cannot comment.Highly recommended 5* from us.
Really lovely place to visit. Excellent cafe, best bakery and butchers, interesting groceries.
Good food, but expensive. Service awful! And tables left uncleared while staff stood around chatting. We got better service at the local cafe at half the price!
morning 7/10/22. Went to coffee shop. Stood at counter with 3 members of staff busying themselves behind the counter, clearly aware of our presence and avoiding eye contact. . Blatantly ignored for a full five minutes before my partner and I decided to go somewhere more hospitable. Common decency, let alone good customer service would have initiated some verbal interaction from the staff. Perhaps a good morning, we will be with you in a moment or please take a seat , well be with you shortly nothing..... . We will not be returning.
Very nice farmshop and cafe, quality food service
Home made bakery smelled amazing on arrival. Just popped in for a latte to take away and very glad we did. Staff in the cafe were friendly and hard working.
Very calm and relaxing atmosphere. Staff respectful and polite, no pushyness like you get in some places. Place was bright and clean & I had a lovely view looking over the orchard. Food was absolutely lovely and it was top coffee too, a major plus for this coffee-holic.
Normally excellent, good coffee this morning but had to wait ages to get a lukewarm sausage sandwich that had a well undercooked sausage in and all the fat had soaked into the bread. At nearly £20 for 2 coffees and 2 sandwiches we will not be going back anytime soon
Cracking farm shop and cafe, fabulous breakfast with very attentive staff. The shop element has a great selection of meat and treats to tempt you, recommended
Normally I love this place, but on this visit I had the worst service ever!Unfriendly and unapologetic girl behind the counter. My granola with yoghurt took 25 mins to arrive, and I had to ask if they’d forgotten. No apology for the wait.It looks like a group of unhappy teenagers running the place hating life.
Great butchers but the rest of the shop was a bit pricey compared to other farm shops Ive been to therefore didnt buy anything else. had an impressive looking fishmongers also but didnt have time to buy anything so dont know what costs were like in there.
Lovely farm shop, great range of fruit, veg and meat, a well stocked deli counter, nice coffee and tea shop with lovely views of the Orchard and surrounding farmland, it was a nice discovery on our way to Rye
Very impressed, helpful friendly staff in cafe and loved the variety in the shop especially the Odesey range 😊
Visited for a coffee and cake. Plenty of staff chatting, hardly any tables in use, not one table was clear of used cups and plates.
My friends and I regularly go for lunch in the Café. The staff are friendly and serve people with a smile and sometimes a bit of a chat. The food is good at reasonable prices. Our visit yesterday was met with a fraught manager as everything was failing and she was stressed out. They could heat up a quiche but nothing else. The oven, fridge and freezer had packed up on her. Hot drinks were still possible. We prayed for her and she apologised to us for her mood. Our salads were very filling. It is a pleasant café which has outside space as well. If with someone who is disabled and would like to sit outside on the decking, it may be necessary to book ahead, in case theyre busy. We often walk into the Farm Shop afterwards. There is a good variety of foodstuffs. In season, the strawberries are tasty and firm, unlike supermarket ones. Of course, Farm shops can be a little more pricy than supermarkets but the quality, and variety is well worth it. Friendly and helpful staff.
I like this place, for its combination of a cafe offering good coffee and a lovely farm shop. I would like to give it 5 stars, but why are the staff so miserable? This really spoils the customer experience. They are able to laugh and smile among themselves, but customers get the surly treatment. Such a shame, but so easy to put right.
Beautiful space with lovely food and shop. Lovely selection at the fishmongers too. Outdoor seating was a problem as wasps were everywhere so much so we had to come inside, quite pricey but the food was worth the amount
Lovely cafe, we sat outside in the sun. Nice food and drink but the waitress failed to bring milk for the tea and the later failed to bring cutlery and serviettes with the food despite being reminded of both. On both occasions we had to get the milk and the cutlery. I might have understood if it was busy but it wasnt.
Wonderful cafe and farm shop with a good variety of selected products.Helpful, kind and friendly team.
Absolutely the worst place 1 hr waiting for food very rude staff on arrival at 10.30 am waited 30 mins for our coffee highly priced 3 staff where here so not under staffed still here at 11.40 still waiting for breakfast Absolutely a joke I wouldnt give even 1 star more minus 15 anyone AVOID AVOID
Nice place. Did wait sometime for our coffee and it wasnt that busy. Lovely location and place to sit and chill.
Super little Farm shop complex. There is also a fishmonger adjacent which I noticed though didnt shop in this time. Lovely teacakes and other treats available in the bakery section.
Lovely place that we hadnt been to before. We were passing and decided to go in for a meal and drink. Lovely food, pleasant staff and plenty of seating. They also have a fab shop selling all sorts of goodies.
It was a bit hectic in the coffee house and expensive. The farm shop was extremely expensive you needed to take out a mortgage to buy most of the items on sale. Would just drive by in future.
Ordered pastries for delivery to Yalding for a wedding party and we were incredibly delighted with what we received. Enormous danishes, croissants and doughnuts and all absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend!!
Really disappointed when we last visited the cafe. Staff were friendly but the coffee wasnt great, the milk jug was dirty and service was very slow.
Visited here by chance. What a beautiful place. Amazing food, decent coffee and lovely staff... oh and two really cute goats in the garden. Definitely worth a visit! 🙂
Nice rural eatery. My quiche and coffee were nice but the quiche was presented as a very small portion and extremely overpriced. Well worth the visit if you are aware of the costs.
A great farm shop with probably the best bakery IMHO. You must try the doughnuts! Great vegetable selection as well. Must visit!
My god speed things up... Slowest place on earth.Stop the staff from standing around doing nothing. When youre full up, deciding to do take away orders isnt a bright idea when you havent added kitchen capacity. Its just greed.
Great farm shop, good range of fresh fruit, veg, deli and fresh meats as well as assorted other items. Good cafe attached. Fairly easy to park though was busy even for a Wednesday lunchtime.
Normally this place is great and we love the cakes in the shop but the cafe continues to go down in our estimations. It is not cheap and the service is deteriorating. We waited 10 mins if not more to be served only to find that 3 tables that came in after us were served first. Wont be going back soon, not to the cafe anyway
The tables in the coffee shop hadnt been cleaned from previous customers. 4 staff behind the counter. 2 were chatting throughout our visit. The staff preparing food didnt have gloves or masks on, which we feel they should. Overall lacking in cleanliness and not very welcoming. Will not be returning.
Really lovely food in the cafe which overlooks the beautiful orchard. The shop has an incredible selection of the most yummy food. The wild garlic chicken kebabs are immense.
Unfortunately not a great experience of the coffee house. My Panini arrived with a small metal part of the oven/grill inside it that would have chipped a tooth if I hadnt spotted it. Was offered the Panini for free but, when getting home, realised it hadnt been removed from my bill. The staff seemed attentive and friendly though and the food is decent.
The shop is good but coffee shop is rubbish. They served flat white and cappuccino with same glass. Flat white is milky. They split the coffee while serving, even did not offer to replace the glass, just bring a tissue! They are not know anything about running a business. Update; They said, they have been offended what I said. Sorry for using wrong word. I wanted to mention they do not know serving and not know anything about making coffee.
The cafe has a beautiful view of fruit trees. There’s no atmosphere, no connection welcome from staffs to customers. The sausage rolls ran out, the sausage sandwich is not available due to no hot oven available…Why did not staffs inform the customer before they ordered. We found this cafe very poor of quality, the customer service, the professionalism. That’s the shame, they can offer much more as they are in a lovely location! Also they miss a massive opportunity by NOT connecting the cafe to the actual food that’s on sale. Listen to people that know and respond to the reviews Or you can be considered as lazyIf I managed this place, there would be happy and easy changes that would take it from oki ish to be outstanding in a matter of weeksThe cafe lets down the shop and view.
Had breakfast and cake. It was a moderately busy Sunday morning but lots of staff to manage it. Food was nice. Unfortunately there was an issue with their card payment machine. Fortunately there was a nice young lady trying very hard to resolve it but the older lady who she sought help from was impatient, brash and made me feel uncomfortable and at fault. Issue was resolved by using a different card machine which proved successful.
Not as expected looked and sounded amazing online.Certinly will not do it again.Expensive for very very bonk tasteless half wet luck warm thin slice of a quiche with supermarket handfull of dry salad leaves.Pretty pointless to finish espechily with a dust bin of flys looking at u will your sitting there.Unprofessionally run from the toilets stuffed with enough tolet paper and tissue to guarantee the staff dont need to check it for a month to staff just not having a clue how to deal with customers. And so meny staff walking in circles around each other.Alot of money has been put into creating a pretty location that is just let down buy the staff. What a shame when the surrounding businesses at that location are doing so well in catering to the customers from presentation to professionalism. However Im sure there are people out there who dont see what bothers me. vote with your feet.
EDIT: I meant this review for charity farm. Always get the two confused.Very lucky to have this wonderful little farmshop on my doorstep. The deli is fantastic, offering competitively priced hand made sandwiches and salads. Lots of niche foodie items for sale and their florist is always happy to make up a beautiful bouquet. Great service from all, everytime.
Fabulous Butcher..will return for his fillet kebabs and mustard short ribs. Rest of Shop very expensive! Fishmongers also excellent withnormal prices..The Florist is wonderful and delivers to Ryr.Hawkhurst.Cranbrook.Had pleasant lunch there in cafe.
I love this place. Cornish pasties that are amazing, cakes to die for. Coffee gorgeous and what lovely staff come here now and again its out of our way but so so worth the trip. The shope is also incredible.
A lovely atmosphere and amazing food. I have visited previously and returned for my dads birthday lunch! The staff are helpful and friendly and the food was lovely as per usual. Obviously visiting during Covid is a different experience, however the staff were extremely polite when requesting to use hand sanitiser and wearing masks etc as they are required. Will be returning once again, thank you.
Amazing farmshop, not the cheapest but goods are of a good quality. Butchers is extremely good. Never had a bad bit of meat. Top quality. Havent been to coffee shop for a while but last time was good also.
Lovely produce.. lovely cafe.. bit pricey, but the food was delicious
Stopped on our ride out for some lunch. Enjoyed some lovely home baked pastries and cake! Friendly staff. Very clean Cafe and well organised. In a lovely setting. We need to pop back with the car to do some shopping as the farm shop and fishmongers have a nice range.
We love the look of the produce in the farm shop. We had a cup of tea and a sandwich in the Coffee House, it was very nice it wasnt cheap but we enjoyed our meal. We visited at lunchtime it was very busy and everybody seemed to be enjoying their food. The parking is very convenient we also enjoyed a look at the fish in the fishmonger which is adjoined.
Lovely cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The food was fantastic (I really recommend the bacon!), and we had a great late breakfast. Theres a basket of books for the little ones and great views of the orchard outside. The cafe leads into the farm shop which has a wide variety of food, and we had a nice bottle of Kent wine from them. Overall a great place to eat and/or shop.
Fine cup of coffee and a great bacon sandwich. Beautifully designed Coffee House and Farm Shop with ample parking. Great selection of fresh fish in the fishmongers too!
