Hare Krishna Temple - Hindu temple in Port Shepstone, South Africa
Clean and well kept.
Beautiful, a sight to be remembered..
Peaceful, beautiful and tranquil temple. Spiritually uplifting. Friendly and helpful staff. Food was tasteful and wholesome.
Hare Krishna. Welcoming atmoshpere, just something about going to the temple that brings a calm over one.
The best place to visit! Great food and so much fun dancing and singing ❤️
A spiritual oasis and welcoming venue for all those seeking enlightenment.
This is my favourite place on earth. So tranquil. Theres prayers at different times in the day, or you could just go and sit and meditate quietly. The food at Govindas at the temple is amazing.
Food was not of the standard we once enjoyed. I requested paneer chutney and got brinjal chutney instead. The curries were more a soup than curry. Tasteless. Pagodas and samosas are all filled with corn. Dont go there when hungry and expect to get a good meal. Sweet meats no comment! I understand that the food is prepared daily. This didnt look and taste so.
My daughter and I were welcomed with open arms by the security guard and a devotee, a serene and peaceful place, absolutely delicious food.#stayblessed.
Hare Krishna temple has been part of the community for as long as its beginning. Chatsworth, Durban, South Africa is a formerly Indian township, with a multicultural environment now. I am Christian, but I have loved attending the temple and its simple clean eating foods are absolutely delicious. Beans and rice or beans and roti. Plain simple healthy sustaining. that is the overall message of the temple as well. And naturally, it is a beautiful building like all temples are.
Beautiful religious landmark in Chatsworth, Durban. Built in the 1970s, the temple is one of the most beautiful in Southern Africa and the biggest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.Devotees are friendly-ish. Theres a restaurant and washroom facilities. All are welcome.
A world class oasis of tranquility and peace. An island of spiritual awakening in an ocean of kaliyug. Visit their incredible gift shop or taste their sumptuous vegetarian feast at Govindas restaurant! You will not be disappointed!
The Hare Krishna Temple in Chatsworth is truly a beautiful ,tranquil and serene place of worship. This temple was built around the late 70s to early 80s by the founder His Holiness A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. The members of the Hare Krishna Mandir (templedo engage in daily worship beginning with a Mangal Aarti ,a midday prayer and a culminates with an evening prayer as well.Theres also a restaurant here called (Govindaswhich prepares pure vegetarian and wholesome meals along with rotis , juices and cokdrinks. Other foods include (biryani , sugar beans , green beans ,paneer masala etc.For those who have yet to see this temple , it has a moat around and with recent refurbishments having been undertaken , this is a great place to meditate ,pray or just walk around and see the beautiful architecture and artworks.
Beautiful. You can feel the spiritual peace. Inside is so beautiful and the best for meditation.
Very nice and calm place and very different from the ISKCON temples of India. Its very near to the Chatsworth city centre mall and Vishnu temple is also nearby
Beautiful Krisna temple , one can also sit and meditate , Beautiful paintings on the ceiling , you can feed the fish or Eat A sumptuous meal in the Govinda Vegetarian restaurants.
Absolutely serene and tranquil.Peaceful calm atmosphere.Excellent vegetarian resturant on site
Its soooo beautiful and serene. The gardens around the temple can make one sit there for hours.
Absolutely stunning. A must see. But the people are not that nice. I had a bad experience with someone who was dishing food and he just walked away and because my gf did not know she assumed we was supposed to dish and as we touch the spoon. He started screaming at us. Totally bad for such a place. Really not going back. He had a shop rite shirt.
One of the most Serene, Tranquil and spiritually uplifting centres in all of South Africa. Perfect answers to spiritual questions. Helpful staff and assortment of books and education available. Food is beyond amazing as well!!! Woodfire Pizza on site too! A must visit for all cultures and anyone wanting a deep connection during their travel.
My prayers today was in memory of my late daughter Litonya who passed away last year.Hare Krishna Temple has always given me spiritual experience that words cannot explain.
Beautiful, peaceful and scenic with a great onsite, strictly vegetarian, restaurant. Authentic Indian food and sweet meats.
Beautiful, serene place to calm the soul. Love the soji and soyer fish curry at the take away. Ample parking. Lovely gardens.
Awesome vegetarian food and delight s from Govidas restaurant. Also scored some well priced Murtha tops at the gift shop
The temple is very beautiful and we enjoyed a wonderful vegetarian lunch. A must see when u r in Durban
Really spiritual, you can feel the calmness and awe when here. The services are beautiful and well organized. You can go there at any time and just enjoy. Theres even a restaurant just below the main temple. Scenic and spiritual. Always a blessed feeling to go through. No matter the religion or race, I would suggest going here to revel in the beauty of the temple.
Devotees at this temple believe they above every other hindu religion.they simply hate people that prayer to an idol or to a jundha.but they fail to realise that lots of non hare devotee contribute to their annual Easter festivals.
Okay this place is absolutely amazing. If you end up going here ask someone if you dont know of where you can eat. Because they have an amazing canteen that will have you blowing your mind over the vegan and vegetarian options. They have a fish curry that is made from tempeh there is no fish in it and it is probably way better than any fish curry you will ever have. The food is insane try a little bit of everything I promise you even if youre a picky eater you will not be disappointed. They also have extra containers I would highly recommend ordering extra food to go so you can relive this phenomenal experience when youre on the road or are too far away from the temple. Dont be shy go to the top get a little tour sit and appreciate the difference in cultures and what does culture has to offer
Most beautiful relaxing place in the country
Lovely people here, wondeful building and the loveliest koi. The restaurant serves wonderful vegetarian food that is fantastic value. Beware the queues at the restaurant, you could wait a bit but it is worth it.
Ive been to ISKCON temples in a few countries and have seen pictures of temples from around the world but this temple is the most stunning temple I have ever seen. You walk inside and feel so much peace. You feel as if youve came home and nothing else matters. After seeing the stunning deities, you can take a walk through the gardens and see the fish in the moat. There is also a little boutique and a great vegetarian restaurant on site.
Nice and tranquil temple. Abode of Sri Krishna. Quite unique construction and shape. My daughter loved the fish pond and feeding the fishes.
Good food and great ambiance. If you looking for good vegetarian meals thats reasonably priced. Its a good idea to dine here
Beautiful temple. Also has good vegetarian restaurant which you can eat in or take away
Must visit this temple if you are around. Serene and peaceful inside with delicious food joint inside (Govindas). The Indian food made by the volunteers is delicious and takes you back in time when you pay for it :). Very well maintained in terms of cleanliness and facilities. Beautiful garden to walk around the fish pond with hungry koi fishes staring at you with their open mouth.
Very pretty, very tranquil. Good place to hide out from the world and do some life changing thinking. The sweetmeat available at the shop is really good! Best burfee. All food sold is vegetarian. Plus the koi fish are massive! They must be as old as the temple itself!
Spiritually charged. This is a beautiful, must see temple. There is also a shop should you wish to embrace the devotee fashion and learn more about the philosophy. The restaurant serves freshly cooked vegetarian meal, sweetmeats, desserts and snacks which can be enjoyed at the venue or taken away. This is a must see for anyone visiting Durban.
I was a member at this temple and enjoyed visiting the temple, peaceful, beautiful and praying was a pleasure. Now living in Canada and miss visiting the Hare Krishna temple. The temple here is so untidy and the priest seems so lazy. Wanted to join the membership but decided against it.
Magnificent view we missed the love feast because its held between 12 noon to 1 pm got chance to listen maharaj s bhajan also ...
It is one 9f the biggest ISKCON temples in the southern hemisphere. They people at the reception were very helpful and gave us a free tour and explain the basics of the religion. They sell books outside and if you arrive around lunch time all the temple goers will invite you for a free lunch. Dont be shy just join them a lively experience
Gorgeous temple.Amazing staff. The ceremonies are very welcoming and stunning. The food is absolutely to die for as well.A fantastic place to learn and absorb different cultures..Every one is welcome and people are eager to impart with information and knowledge.
Had lunch. It was lovely. The gardens and fish pond is really beautiful. Very scenic.
Beautiful place, nice paintings. A nice place of worship. There is a gift shop. A vegetarian restaurant. Over all very nice experience
The Sri Sri Radha Radhanath Temple of Understanding as its officially known is the largest Radha Krishna temple in the southern hemisphere. It has been acclaimed an architectural masterpiece with a fusion of Vedic and modern architecture to create a timeless piece of art. Since it first opened in 1985 , its doors have been opened all year round. The deities that are housed within this gracious building are dressed twice daily and adorned with fresh flower garlands. The interior is opulently decorated with tiles and carvings sourced from the far corners of the globe.Central to their worship , is the Festival of Chariots which is held annually at a Durban Beachfront site over the Easter long weekend. The festival is said to celebrate an invitation to the lord of the Universe to enter the hearts of his/ her worshippers. The temple also boasts a sumptuous restaurant .The purpose of the temple is for people to come to there to find peace and fulfilment through a connection with God irrespective of race , colour or religion. Sitting in that serene and calm environment , one can easily see how that can be achieved.
All welcome. Beautiful Hindu temple. Tranquil gardens. Gift shop for memories. Govindas vegetarian restaurant and take-away.
When I when to the temple it was life changing after the aarti I felt that Krishna was with me all the time I would recommend this place also for the great food there . The mine shrine is always beautifully decorated
Amazing interior designs, not very wheel chair or baby pram friendly, if this place is open to the public there should be persons facilitating
A breathtaking temple which welcomes everyone. Pristinely kept gardens and the temple moat, which is home to over 200 koi. A restaurant and take away is also housed here, offering great vegetarian food at reasonable prices. Very friendly staff. A very enjoyable experience.
Beautiful temple complex. I am not a hare Krishna devotee but this temple always leaves me with a sense of peace and calmness even after just a quick visit. The govindas restaurant has great vegetarian food and the people there are always friendly.
When you enter the temple grounds you already feel at ease as soon as you walk into the main altar you are greeted by heavenly site of the deities . The Altar has this breathtaking gold ceiling . On the ground floor theres a moat with koi . The restaurant serves up some delicious vegetarian cuisine , theres a huge variety however the staff are quite slow when it comes to serving especially during peak time
