105 The Strand, Tauranga, 3110, New Zealand, Tauranga
Overlooking Tauranga Harbour, this utilitarian hostel is 8 km from Mount Maunganui extinct volcano and 9 km from ASB Baypark Stadium.Unpretentious private rooms and 4- to 8-person mixed and female-only dorms come with Wi-Fi (fee) and free linens. Upgraded rooms and dorms include en suite bathrooms; others have shared facilities. There’s no air-conditioning, and TVs aren’t provided.Bike rentals and use of the hostel's safe are complimentary. Communal areas include a kitchen, a TV lounge and a balcony with harbour views. There's also a coin-operated laundry.
This is a great location! Any activity I can think of is at my door step, walking distance or available by bus. All the information I need is at reception or the infomation center next door. There is a beautiful view of the harbor from the balcony of the hostel. It is a very clean and safe place.I was provided a blanket upon check in. Check is at 2 pm, but if the room is ready you may be able to go in your room early as I did. The staff is very friendly and most Ive met stay in the hostel. There is a nice sized fully equipped kitchen, a tv room, laundry room, etc.I was a 6 person room with a full bathroom ie, toilet, shower and sink. You have to bring your own wash cloths and soap but the main things you need are provided. I am already plannin my next trip to Tauranga and I may just stay at Harbourside City Backpackers again! Why dont you give them a go? :-)
Average accommodation with the worst showers Ive seen.
Hostel is very clean. Lovely balcony with a sea view. Bed is comfortable. Our longtermer room have a locker and own sink and is quiet enough to sleep good.Staff is super friendly and helpful. Hostel Life is not gonna be better than this.
Very friendly, clean & tidy. Comfortable & clean beddingWould definitely visit again. So affordable
Great location, really central to everything in town. Clean rooms and shared facilities. Friendly staff. WiFi was pretty good. No other common areas other than the kitchen area so it does make it a bit harder to meet and socialize with other people.
We stayed in the double room with en-suite bathroom and really enjoyed it. The room was clean, big enough for two and the water pressure in the shower was the best so far.Erwin at reception was very friendly, thanks again!
Awesome customer service and staff. Really enjoyed my stay and would love to return.
Very bad experience, they would like to take your money first no matter what. We didn’t stay at all eventually
Fantastic facilities right on the waterfront with easy access to public transport. Can make friends from all around the world
Love the view from the harbourside and the staff was very helpful and nice
This backpackers is good. The kitchen room is perfect. But the Wifi is so bad
Right in the heart of everything, but quiet enough to get a good night sleep.
I stayed here for two weeks. This hostel had a very good vibe, everyone was always socializing upstairs rather than being wired to a screen. Staff was very polite, great location. Only hiccup was the WiFi only works in one general area. All in all great time, will definitely be coming back for a bit soon. Cheers!
The friendliness of staff and friends I made made up for the bad WiFi ❤️
Excellent location and accessibility. Love the balcony & harbour view!! However the corridor was cold because the back door at level 1 is always open and environment a bit too noisy. Also my room in next to that back door no wonder why Im always cold
The room was cosy and the music from the neighboring restaurant stopped at a reasonable time. The complimentary heater was a nice touch for a cold night.
Great and friendly place to stay in Tauranga waterfront ! The kitchen and shared facilities are spacious and comfy and the view from the terrace on the roof is really beautiful :)
I had a really good time here in harbourside backpackers the staff is amazing all good people, the room are so clean and the view from the balcony is so nice!! You should go there, I will come back for sure!! Cheers
Very dated and old. Needs refurbishing. They replaced some beds due to bed bug infestations. The whole place needs a lime of paint and repairs.
Really busy hostel, well located. This hostel is mostly occupied by people that work in the area which makes it a really social one. People Ive been staying together for a while so its hard to get to know people if you are only passing by.The kitchen area was pretty messy and dirty.. Didnt make me want to cook food. The dorms were.. OK. Pretty crowded when full and not a lot of spaces for you stuff. The beds are made with metal frames which means everytime you move, you can hear it.The location is great however. Really great view of the water and close to the bank, restaurant and stores. Didnt have to go to the grocery so I dont know how close it is.
Friendly staff and great location spoiled by an unusually high percentage of surly privileged teenagers pretending they are poor, sulking around the halls and lying literally on the floors. Not even that cheap. Ensuite facilities good though. Advertises free WiFi but 1.5mb/s isn’t anything to rave about.
Good social hostel, god awful WiFi
Dont bother staying here if youre just passing through. Im sure its fine if you are working as these people are all that the hostel caters for. Forget about fridge space, sofa space, kitchen space. All taken over by long term residents. Forget about meeting anyone new as well as they all stick together. For example, at one point there was some sort of scavenger hunt organised that nobody else seemed to know about. They were running around the kitchen and up the stairs whilst we were trying to cook looking for clues. Looked like fun but we werent invited. The rooms were laughable. So so small. We were left with two top bunks. One of the top bunks had the ladder facing the wall meaning that you had to use your neighbours ladder to climb up and then climb over the sides of the bunk bed to get in. Dangerous. We complained about the issue and a lovely woman at Reception tried her best to solve it. She had said that nobody else had complained about this and rung around other hostels to see if she could move us. No availability so she asked someone who was already in our room if they would move to the top bunk and they agreed. The kitchen is far too small for the amount of people in this hostel. The main problem is the lack of worktop space. Just dont bother going in during normal breakfast, lunch and dinner hours. Your best off just eating at random points of the day where the kitchen MIGHT be free. The fridges were a joke as they were all taken over by long term guests. We had to squish what we had bought from the supermarket (20 minute walk awayinto a tiny space that we made ourselves. The kitchen was also being cleaned at 12pm when I wanted to make lunch. It had a chain across the entrance so you cant use it at all. The wifi is ridiculous. Its free yes but it might aswell not exist. Youll have to sit in the corridor to use it and its NOT strong enough to FaceTime home anyway. When they say that they have comfy beanbags, they are most of the time used by long term guests and are all squished into tiny corners around the hostel; thats not a selling point. The only real saving grace of this hostel is the Reception staff as they are really helpful and also the view from the terrace is nice, but thats also the smoking area and theres always people smoking out there. Also, very overpriced compared to other hostels in NZ. So overall, find somewhere else.
Nice hostel, but the kitchen is too small. And like every working hostel in Tauranga its really expensive. Even in a long-term dorm you pay around $26 a night.Good thing is, they organized me a job very fast and they even have their own Hostel-Van provided for workers. Free Bikes to rent. Good locations, but there is no supermarket around.
Quite expensive for a hostel $185-200 per person per week. This is the loudest hostel Ive been to, and sometimes its the staff thats loud, not just guests passing though. Internet doesnt reach into the rooms, and kitchen is always busy, girls bathroom was quite dirty compared to other places Ive been. Rooms were cleanish.Plus side is a great view, wonderful staff, eager to help you find work, and nearby restaurants and water.
Quiet in room, fun on the roof. Awesome
Good backpackers but big. Could be very busy. Nice view from the balcony. Nice staff.
Really ok for one night, its quite clean and beds are good!
Great hostel. Well located next to many pubs and restaurants, with amazing views from the terrace and cool people. A bit expensive
Right in the middle of busy Tauranga city centre. Good location, however cheap accommodation, the bed and linen were terrible. Cant ask much of a backpacker though.
Very good bunk beds, small kitchen
Absolutely loved the place . Awesome view from kitchen and the balcony. Wish I could stay a lol longer. Rooms are a lil small I would say bit who cares. U often crash there just to sleep and mostly happy and High.Cheers
What an amazing place with such an amazing view. The staff are so friendly and kind. The kitchen is right on the balcony and its breath taking. When ever you travel anywhere you find one place that is your new home. This is definitely mine :)
a great hostel with awesome people in it.if you want to have work than this is the place to be.long hours of kiwifruit picking for decent money. And then I didnt even speak about the place yet with a amazing balcony view and the bars/restaurants around them. The staff is really helpful and will always try to help you.Harbourside thanks and see you againCheersErwin
Absolutely amazing hostel! The day I arrived I felt so welcome, staff was very nice, room is great! 6 Bed female dorm with plenty of space and a very comfi bed! (I need that!)They have a huge balcony on the second floor where it is very easy to meet other travellers to share stories and experiences. Big kitchen, free Wifi and bikes to rent for Free and right in the middle of all the bars/pubs and restaurants. Best location ever! It feels like a second home to me and I will definitely be back some day.Thank you all at Harbourside, you made my stay a memorable one! I will be back!
Stayed here for about 3 months in total now and can honestly say, that this is my all time favourite hostel. They are constantly trying to improve and provide a very good and friendly service. And the best thing are the good vibes at that place, youll love it. Plus they have the best receptionist ever.
Staff is very fun and friendly and free bikes/surfboards are great but the hot water pressure for showers is a trickle and the bunks have no ladders. A little expensive for what you get but Id consider staying here again.
Small kitchen. Free WiFi in our room. PaknSave nearby. But the "free bikes" shouldnt be advertised, the brakes and gears didnt work and I got a flat tire.
Free Wifi only in the first floor, small bedrooms, stuffed untidy kitchen, expensive washingmachine, 20 min walk to the next supermarket. Wanted to come there for a job, the hostel organiced for me. But the Job started three weeks after arrival... Nobody had tould me.... Alina was a very unfriendly host. We asked her for news about the Job we were waiting for. And she just tould us that we annoy her. After three weeks staying at the hostel we checked out and wanted to have breakfast in the kitchen (after checking outbut Alina kicked us off...The view is amazing but paying 180$ per week in a 6 dorm Room is too expensive (especially with this low service).
The kitchen was relatively clean but small and it was hard to find a place to sit down and eat sometimes . The room was simple with a view at another house and smells of food coming from an Asian restaurant. The staff was very nice and quickly reacted to questions and wishes .Overall an okay experience.
- NO WORK DURING 1 WEEK!!!!!!! NO HELP!!!!- No Wifi in the rooms, just in the first floor- No place in the fridges- next supermarket 30 min far away- 6 bed dorm very very small & NO SPACE for bags etc.- dryer cost 4$ and your clothes are still wet. 1$ for washing powder & 3$ for washerJUST DISAPPOINTING & UNDERPERFORMING for 170$ a week. AND NO REFUNDS!!!!!!
checked in by the rudest receptionist, after two hours of waiting I was given my key, as I walked upstairs with my bags I was called over to also take up my own duvet with no help of assistance. Walked into my room and there was just a pillow thrown in the middle of the bed. I had waited two hours for someone to change a pillow case? The receptionist was rude, disinterested and so unfriendly.
I only stayed 1 night here in a double room. Its in a central location. Staff were helpful when I checked in. The room was fine with 30 minutes free wi-fi. Its pretty pricey if you want more mind you.Kitchen fridges looked pretty packed but I didnt have to use them so no big deal for me.It was just starting into Kiwi fruit season so it felt like the working hostel I stayed in Australia. Most people there staying as longtermers for fruit picking. Its pretty full because of this.
Very poor service, and not very friendly. Way to experience as well!
Awesome people, helpful outgoing staff and wicked location. Right on the waterfront with an upstairs outdoor area that beats any of the bars and restaurants. A real homley feeling here, everyone gets a long and theres always someone getting upto something cool. Surfboards available for free at sister lodge which is definatley something to take advantage of during summer!
Such a great hostel and in a great location in down town Tauranga. Great view of the harbour from the deck and common room. Would definitely recommend!!
Absolutely loving this hostel. The location couldnt be any better. Amazing views from the balcony over the harbour. Beds are very comfortable with great pillows - best sleep I ever had in a hostel. Kitchen and bathrooms are clean too. Staff very helpful and so knowledgeable about the surroundings. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
FANTASTIC! Great view, great staff! Affordable clean accommodation in the centre of town.
Great location, awesome staff, nice and clean in the room and in common areas. Balcony is pretty sweet!
Standard hostel rooms. Clean. Nice communal area. Only negative is the kitchen was a mess most of the time. Location is good but I found the area around mount maunganui nicer than the centre of Tauranga
