Harbour Tourist Park - in Oamaru, New Zealand
Quite expensive for what is provided as you’re mainly paying for the location (close to Victorian precinct and the penguins come ashore just outside the campgrounds). Some elements lacking for the price tag as currently there is no full time receptionist at the moment, no free wifi, and not even dish soap.
Very nice view. Park close by and food for sale. Awesome view.
Brilliant and the ice creams were great
Lovely place to stay. Right on the harbour and a short walk to the historic town. Good cafes close by. Clean facilities. Would definitely return
Too expensive!! Handy to town which is definitely in its favour. The facilities are clean and well maintained....but? No wifi. Just too expensive sadly.
What a wonderful place to stay. Like a picture postcard. Very clean amenities. Zena ( hopefully got her name correctwas so helpful & friendly. Will definetly be back.
What an absolutely fabulous spot to stay. From the lovely friendly lady who comes to check you in, to the spotlessly clean facilities, the awesome view, close proximity to town and so many wonderful attractions, restaurants and cafes, to the little blue penguins who come home every night making such a racket. What a treat this place is. Nothing fancy but will definitely put this on my list of places to return to. Thankyou, we have so enjoyed it!
Rally good location, and you may see blue penguins around the campsite.Playground is just next to the campsite.Clean facilities, and staffs are kind.
We made a last minute booking for a powered site here while traveling the South Island. The office is not always manned but there is self check in available. The park itself is rather small but it has 2 kitchen spaces with gas hobs, cooking utensils and dishwashing facilities. There are 2 showers and 2-3 toilets in each bathroom. Prices are $60 p/night (2peoplefor their front sites or $55 p/night (2peoplefor any other site. You can pay this in cash or internet banking. There is no EFTPOS facility or WiFi available. We found these prices slightly higher than what wed encountered in other places with more to offer, but really I think you are paying for the penguin experience! The penguins are quite loud so recommend ear plugs if youre a light sleeper.*This place is open to all i.e. does not require proof of 💉
Great wee holiday park, simple facilities but everything is there. Nice clean toilets and showers too. On the pricier side, but super central location and glad we could bring the dogs too
Great walk and lovely watching penguins.
A great place to stopover. A short walk to the Victorian quarter and to the Blue Penguin colony.
Excellent area right on the waterfront. You will see plenty of blue penguins along the esplanade.
Pretty awesome view
Worst place ever the owner is the most rude person Ive ever met also his workers are all the same kinda sad coz the townspeople were great in the old Scotts brewing Co. Was great food n ppl aswell.
Very clean camp ,well set out ,close to coffee shop and meals, lovely out look over harbour
In a beautiful spot on the waters edge just a short walk to the Victorian quarter and town. At the right time of year also close to the blue penguin colony. Fantastic sunrises. Small well kept camp site.
The location is one of the best with it being on the ocean, and the sites are a good size. They have added more sites but not expanded the facilities, so it can be crowded.
Very beautiful area. Wish I was a kid again here.
Must visit. Worth location. Good views.
You can actually see Penguin from this campsite!
Amazing location right on the harbor! You can stroll along the harbor and see penguins a short walk from where you sleep (we saw some cross the road right outside the park). Helpful and friendly owner. Kitchen and bathrooms are small but very clean and well maintained.
A good place to observe penguins walking around the camp site and the beach.Shower and Kitchen facilities is limited so guests have to queue up. They are clean after all.We checked in at 7pm following the instructions in front of the office. No problem with late check in.
Amazing location in a beautiful little town. The owner was so nice to us and helpful. The site overlooks the harbour that makes for a beautiful sunrise.Make sure you go to Scotts Brewing Co nearby and see the Blue Penguins! We highly recommend!!
Well situated campsite and beautiful sunrise view by the harbour. The kitchen is clean, although there is only 2 stoves/sink. The playground is fun and great for kids. There is a Sunday farmers market, just few minutes away.
Another nice camp overlooking the harbour and looking around old Oamaru was really great
Small but nice campground. In our opinion a bit expensive compared to other campgrounds, because you mainly pay for location. Facilities are very clean though, and staff really friendly. Oamaru was a non planned stop on the route, def worth the stop and plenty of stuff to do. If possible, sunday morning market is great!
This is my go to campground. Its small and popular so safest to book. Sites are a nice mix of gravel and grass and are a reasonable size. Bathroom facilities are good and theres lots of hot water with great pressure. Theres no common/TV room and kitchens are a bit too small and often crowded. Its across a very quiet dead end road from the waterfront so penguins on site are a lovely bonus. Large playground next door is very popular and its an easy walk to the heritage area and lots of good eateries.
Really nice campground..spotless bathrooms. And kitchen. Short walk to penguins
Nice site, and theres even a baby penguin nesting under the kitchen
Really nice holiday park right by the harbour. It is right next door to a very good playground, so great for kids. Everything was very clean and tidy. Make sure you book as it is very popular, was totally full when we stayed.
Great powered camp site, fantastic for kids as its got a huge playground right next to it. Also, penguins come in at night during season to nest.
Great little camping ground. Inexpensive. But what a great location right beside the harbour and a fabulous play ground and a short walk to funky cafes and shopping. The grounds are well maintained and facilities clean. Really nice reception as well.
This would be a definate five star rating, with the helpful staff, well equipped spotlessly clean kitchen, view across the harbour, nice level sites, and amazingly having penguins strolling through the park on a nightly basis.HOWEVER, waiting nearly an hour for a shower and use of a toilet was a huge let down and I should really be giving three stars.
This campground has been the highlight of our trip so far. Our hostess was awesome. so friendly and helpful with great tips on what to see and where to eat in Oamaru. I will definitely be back.
Had our motorhome stop here enroute to watch the Oamaru Penguin Colony. Lovely staff, clean and well kept holiday park. Check out the steam punk playground just beside it.
Lovely little motor home site right by the harbour and easy walk from the towns attractions of which there are many. Powered sites. Facilities are clean but there are only 2 toilets and 2 showers each for men and women. Unlimited WiFi all stay for just $2. Great childrens play ground next door. When booking ask for a harbour view pitch.
Fantastic location! Small bathrooms.
Great place to stay. Very friendly lady who was very helpful. Very clean facilities and lovely hot showers. Right by the harbour - close to the penguins. Cafe next door for great coffee & wonderful ice cream. A great stay.
Small, quite, easy access, nice location. Cheap for tents, Penguin walking inside in the evening.
This was a very comfortable place in a great location. Staff were friendly and all of the facilities were clean. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles, however, is everything you need it to be. It is only 10 minutes (or lesswalk to the blue penguin colony and you can even see some penguins on the way back from the formal show.
Great spot to camp. Facilities clean. View is awesome! Penguins only 5m away. Steam punk HQ is only minutes walk away.Able to park large vehicles.
Awesome spot and close to everything. Get to see the penguins coming off the beach at night too.
Really nice facilities, friendly staff, fair price. Plenty of hot water! Beautiful NZ sunrise can be seen across the harbour. Great location.
This small camper park is very clean and has complete facilities. Unlike the previous camper park that we went at Lake Tekapo, the kitchen is equipped with pots, pans, cutlery etc. The bathroom is also very clean without any time limitation. The owner also has her small cafe just next to the reception area, just in case you feel too lazy to cook. The price is affordable and worth the money.Oh yes, we even spotted a blue penguin in this premise, taking a stroll late in the afternoon
Great stay. Facilities clean and tidy - was good to have two kitchens. Staff friendly and helpful. Very handy to the harbour, childrens playground and pub/shops.
Basic but the facilities were clean and the location cant really be beat. Kitchen definitely could have been a bit bigger. Seeing penguins walking through the park at night is pretty interesting.
On of my favourite place in New Zealand. Took a day and a night to explore the place. Full of historically preserved buildings and local culture. Let;s not forget, there are lots of penguins running around the street nearby.
Nice little campsite, fair price for the location directly at the harbor, if you are lucky youll see penguins at the campground. All clean and good equipped kitchen
Close to the harbour so nice view and penguins crossing at night ! Friendly staff and clean facilities but kitchen really too small and not enough showers for everybody. No Free Unlimited Wifi.
