Harajuku Owl's Forest - Animal park in Kanda, Japan
The drink comes from a vending machine which was neat however like what most people say you need to go there early. By the time we got there (2pmmost of the dog are super tired and are not in a playful mood.
I hate this place. Please let them free.Owls seem like sad.I am Japanese and I went there 2 years ago.but they look so tired and people take pictures of them with flush and they tried to be free, but CANT! I hope staffs are really take care of them .or they should be closed.
Harajuku Owl’s forest is this area where you enter to see and (for some owlstouch. You can’t touch the owl if there is a “Beginner” sign next to the owl. There is no time limit but if you walked around the whole place taking photos it would only take around 10 minutes. One of the drawbacks I could think of is how the owls weren’t allowed to move all day since they are chained all day. (The chains are really short too. There are a lot of different breeds. I am only thinking this is pricey hence the way the owls were treated. BTW, the owls are ADORABLE!!
this establishment deserves zero star, please do not go there !!! the owls are attached to 5 cm of padlocked rope to a false branch, impossible for them to move, even for us its complicated with the branches which annoys. The way is to tight to go throught, we necessarily disturb the owls even without touching them, there are approximately 12 in 12m2 includ the memory shop . I feel guilty for paying for it ...😩
Not far away there is a competitor with whom you will see them fly and land on your arm!The living conditions of these poor owls are certainly horrible because they are tied up all day long, which prevents them from making the slightest movement!Do not go ! I did not expect such horrible conditions for animals and even without being a big defender of their living conditions, I felt guilty very very quickly after buying my ticket. We are responsible for the existence of this kind of place because by going there we finance them.
Not sure about the treatment of owls here.. They are not struggling but they probably have given up trying. Very short chains. No actual human supervision about how they shld be pet/treated by visitors. It is not a cafe but a narrow walk around. Tho there is no time limit, we stayed for 15mins. Go to cafes where owls are much better treated, can fly (even if just a short distance), sleep, and get treated more properly by visitors. I do not recommend, and will not come back.
Nice place to get the owl cafe experience if you want a brief version of it.
Owls were very cute! Its just a small park you pay to go through and you dont really spot with them like a cafe. I think Id prefer a cafe more though
It’s not a very large, interactive exhibit but still wild to see owls super close up. There are a lot of different breeds and you’re allowed to pet them (although, it makes you feel a bit bad because they’re definitely chained and probably on some kind of tranquilizer...)Some of the owls are HUGE, but for the most part they just kind of perch there unblinking. You can walk through the whole thing in maybe 10-15 min, and there’s no re-entry
Dont go there! Poor animals! Its a shame how these majestic birds are kept on extremely short leashes in bright spotlights with nothing to drink. I felt so deeply sorry for these creatures and regret paying money for their misery!
The owls are tied to their perches with a short rope on each leg. Short one-way walking route that only takes a few minutes to complete. This is simply exploitation. I recommend "Forest of Owl" in Akihabara instead - that is a proper rescue shelter where the owls roam free
Anyone who provided positive comments about how great this place is should have their heads examined!!! You have no heart! This place is sadness chained up and put on display. These birds look so exhausted and depressed. Let them free! They belong in the open sky.
Although you can see the owls really close and even pet them, you end up feeling extremely guilty for paying to see owls in such a small space with the shortest leash with staff that does not seem to care much about their well-being.
Wish I could give the place no stars. I came here a couple months ago and I still cannot forget about it to this day. The owls there possessed noticeable pain and sadness in their eyes. Most of them flinched when petted and the ones that didnt flinch seemed too emotionally worn out to protest. Owls do not belong in confined spaces like this, and its even more infuriating to have people making money off of these beautiful creatures at the expense of their freedom and well being. I dearly hope these owls eventually have good ends and live their lives happily. Please do not support this business.
So much fun! Owls are super cute. Friendly staff, very easy to understand all the rules.
If you too optimistic about animals got chained so go somewhere else or play with the dogs upstairs please.I like it here a lots. I got to see different Owls which is I never seen before. Place really small but well organized and pretty clean.
I spotted this area when walking past and decided to take a look with our group.I severely regret going in as the owls do not seem to be taken very good care of. A few flinch when approached or lightly petted and all of them are chained to the branch they sit on. Two of the owls are in a small area with a net over. The entire experience was quite upsetting and we only stayed for max 10 minutes before leaving.Do not recommend at all.
Do NOT come here. Pretty much regretted the experience seeing that the owls were tied down with short leashes. No freedom, loud "natural" sounds to emulate nature, and staff who didnt care for the animals. Owls could not sleep and did not look happy as at all.
Please dont support this place! They dont care for the well being of their animals. The owls are so scared and sad. They are all chained to their spot, and most of them wince and try to hide into themselves when you walk past. I wish I had known befor going in. Sadly the shop is a high traffic aria and will alway have curious people to come in.
Lovely place to see different owls! The owls were sitting on different trees waiting to be pet. The staff was very friendly with explaining how to pet the owls and which ones not to touch. There were a few owls that couldnt be pet yet, due to temperament. Most of the owls were very friendly and super cute! If you can get past the idea of owls being tied to trees for our enjoyment, then this cafe is the right place for you! The owls seem well cared for and there was a good amount of information about each breed. This cafe is connected to the Shiba Inu dog cafe above this location. Both are well worth checking out!
I felt very sad to see this, its not normal for a owl to be chained and touched like that, in a shinjuku basement, they are not domestic animals, they should be free. Please if you want to pet animals, go to a cat cafe instead.
The owls were very cute and quite pleasent for the most part, I was sad to see the chained up though and it seemed a little cruel to them.I am very hopeful they are treated well and are happy. The place is quiet and pleasent and there is a small gift shop in it with owl related goods. All in all a good experience for the costumer but I am fearful for the owls.
We got a combo ticket for the shiba cafe and the owl forest. It was interesting seeing owls so close up, but we felt a bit bad for them as they were chained to the branches and so couldnt really move around. There was a sign which said that as owls are nocturnal they were let fly around during the night, and which explains why they were quite tired during the day when people visit.Dont really know if that makes up for it.If you go, youll spend max 20mins here.
PLEASE DONT GO HERE! It’s inhumane and I’m ashamed to have paid for this experience and highly regret supporting this establishment. We should’ve read the reviews before going in but thought it would be an interesting thing to try while in Harajuku. The owls are beautiful but they are literally chained up to a perch and cannot move. Also seemed like one was trying to squawk/screech but had no sound come out making me wonder if they have removed their voice boxes. I’m appalled this is okay with the Japanese government. I wanted to cry and felt like I couldn’t get out fast enough. Shameful business.
They chain the owls and lock them to the branches... so the owls are stuck in place outside of their normal waking hours to be forcefully pet by strangers. If you love animals, I would not support this place by feeding money into their inhumane practices.
Its was a nice experience but I was really sorry about poor Shibas. They seemed stressed and tired from the visitors. Area is too small for such number of dogs. Hope they are being cared of good as I can see that dogs are happy in front of the staff.
Great experience for owl lovers! Around 10 owls in total in a forest like place, you can pet them only. Look for the owl Cafe if youre looking for a more "play time"
The cat time is better than the owl time. The cats are like any cat, so they go from friendly and playful to ignoring you pretty frequently. Easiest way to get attention is to hide the toy under your leg and let it poke out into the open and move around. You have to take your shoes of in the cat area. The owl part is more like a walkthrough. You can pet most of the owls, and only on their backs. That being said, they can turn their heads 270 degrees, so if you have a weird feeling about petting one, trust that instinct. Not really an issue with the smaller owls.
I went inside thinking that this is a owl cafe with large spaces for the owls, somewhere to sit and a nice place to relax while looking at owls. Turns out this is not a cafe, just a small room pretending to be a "forest" with multiple owls. I feel bad for the owls as they are chained and kept in such a small place. I am no owl/animal expert but i can feel that they are not treating the owls really well.
Went to the Shiba cafe on the top floor - while the place is clean and the dogs seem well treated, the experience itself was just okay. Most of the dogs seem over-stimulated and not interested in strangers’ company. To be fair, Shibas are typically loyal to only their owner so this kind of environment isn’t the best for them.
PURE CRUELTY! Owls are tied with short ropes, unable to move. They look stressed, one bite me. Also is very short track and nowhere to sit. PLEASE dont fund this horrible businness :-(
I’d never seen owls before so I really wanted to check this place out. The owls are really cool to look at but I left feeling like an a**hole for contributing money towards the business. All of the owls are chained to the branches they’re perched on so that they can barely shuffle an inch or two either way. All of the owls looked sleep deprived and miserable except for one big one which looked like it was ready to murder me if I got too close (understandable, if I had people touching me all day and I couldn’t move I’d have a murderous rage about me too). Avoid this place if you can and check out an owl cafe instead where the owls have more freedom and are treated better.
only visited the Bengals. it was not crowded early, very nice workers, very clean. cats are playful, friendly, and soft!the one drink from the drink machine is free with the cat visit and the drinks are pretty good. hot or cold options.
My husband and I were really excited to go to the cat cafe. There are about 8-10 cats. But unfortunately none of the cats want to be touched or even play with you. There were a lot of people in the space and it was a bit boring. You can stay for 30 minutes ~ personally, I wouldn’t recommend going here if you want to snuggle or play with cats. If you just want to get a few cute pictures and watch the cats then you might enjoy this place. Staff were not overly friendly or rude ~ just a so-so experience.
Absolutely DISGUSTING PRACTICE! Inhumane and cruel! The owls were tranquilised and chained to synthetic trees with only enough mobility to lift their leg up to the head. This should be illegal and people should be ashamed of this appalling treatment of animals. I left balling my eyes out - their eyes were dead and lifeless. The owls were out of it to the point where you could pat them from behind and on the chest without them reacting.I do not recommend this to ANYONE! This should not be supported and was extremely disturbing and confronting.
I preferred the downstairs owl section over the upstairs cat cafe. Quite happy to see many breeds of owl in a small place. And most of them are quite photogenic. The cat cafe upstairs is a good place to chill, many cats roaming around minding their own business.
I left the owl forest in tears. My young daughter wanted to go but I completely regret this. This is a place of cruelty and having whole lot of strange humans touching you day in and day out, being chained to a branch - this cannot be good for these creatures. I will never support such an activity again.
Interesting place, bought a combination ticket for the Owl and cat cafe. Owls were chained very tightly, it was kinda sad but nice to pat. But the Japanese couple infront of us were aggro-ing the owls so by the time it was our turn to pat the Owl we couldnt because it was pissed off. The cat cafe was nice a lot of them were sleeping but the same couple from the owls were going around picking the cats up when the lady clearly says not to. Other than that overall okay experience.
Save your money and humanity dont bother to go there! Ive been to different animal cafes but this one really disgusted meOwls are generally sick and depressed, we felt very uncomfortable looking at them chained to a small log under a very bright heat lamp right in front of their face, saw an owl got extremely stressed out and refluxing to throw up to stop people patting them.Paying a price to see depress sick animals makes me sad
The owls are chained to their branches, are very aggressive to pats and are generally depressing and depressed. Left with a heavy heart.Went back upstairs to the cat cafe and they were adorable and running around and seemed to be genuinely loved and cared for by their staff. Much nicer than downstairs.
The owls are really cute but this place is too small for having them
Visiting and petting their owls is a selfishly magical experience. Im conflicted about the fact that they have to sit still all day to be pet, but took consolation in the fact that the hostess said they live in a flight cage at night.
Great place to visit to see owls and cats (separate floors). You can chose one or the other or the combo option for both.I went in to see the owls only and it was nice to be given unlimited time to walk around and pet the owls. They seemed content enough; most of them snoozing away until close to sundown. (The snowy owls are not nocturnal so they were hopping about while the others slept.)
The idea of locking animals in place for your entertainment is depressing, but if you think that way you shouldnt be here in the first place.Came here to see owls and bengals and that was fulfilled. The owls are tied down and there wasnt a lot of room, so thats where 1 star is missing. The bengals are cute and with good temperament. They get enough room to roam, but some seem to prefer snucking up to people. Staffs are nice and helpful and the both the owl and cat rooms are clean. The owl could use better ventilation tho.
Cats were spunky and nice. The free cafe drink from the machine is not very good and very sugary. Dont go to the owl cafe because they tie the owls to the branches all day. And def do not support hedgehog cafes because those prey animals are frightened by so many different people touching them.
The owls are all tied up and can barely move and are forced to accept strangers patting and touching them all day. They look quite unhappy and some seem to have eye infections. Was pretty depressing
Great idea for a place where you can pet owls and a "bengal" cat cafe. The issue is the bengals are tamed to be passive. They arent social but cute. They cat toys are not effective since they sit in area of the color green.Cats are color blind and green is one of the colors they can actually see. So dull colored cat toysmeans nothing to them. Most of them are not even interested when you pet them. Most customers will leave early or come once to the cat cafe.Besides that, the owls. The larger ones seem to be less confident being petted by strangers compared to the smaller owls. The second largest one almost bit from behind its back .Customers would come back for more since owls are cute and majestic.
Owls are awesome. You can only walk along a path and pat them as you go, so if it is crowded you might not be able to spend too much time, but it is worth it.
I didnt really enjoy the Bengal "Forest." Sure, there are a dozen Bengal cats there, and thats the most youll ever probably see in one place, but the cats were not well socialized to people and didnt want to be petted. They also were not interested in playing, maybe because the available toys were incredibly sad - just a short string tied to the end of a short stick and some pink plastic sticks with chewed-up tips. The toys might have been very low quality so the Bengal cats dont get too "riled up" and then attack everyone / each other, but overall, MoCHA cat cafes (theyre a chainhave better toys and cats that are MUCH more social. Here, the Bengals mostly chased one another, play-fought and climbed up and down the large "forest canopy" that had been constructed for them.If you want to have FUN at a cat cafe and actually play with / pet the cats, youre better off going to one of the two MoCHA Cat Cafes in the area.
Nice small place with owls you can touch and bengal cats you can come play and sit with.1350 yen if you want to do both, so its inexpensive.
