Dumplings, ramen & izakaya, dished up in a bright locale with wood panelling and kitsch decor.
Harajuku Gyoza South Bank in Brisbane
Description
Privilege
The food was absolutely delicious, staff amazing and so helpful and courteous. Highly recommended. Go back in a flash.
MoreLunch here was a wonderful experience! The tofu teriyaki rice bowl was excellent and the atmosphere of the store was good. The waitress was kind and explained the menu well ;)
MoreThe whipped cheesecake was amazing!!The dumplings were great aswell...love the decore
MoreSo amazing!! I stopped in for a lunch in between my classes at the art school in south bank and even though I was by myself they seated me and let me order straight away (some places have done me dirty not taking my order thinking someone else is coming). I also needed to charge my phone and they let me use a powerpoint and order on the tablet for the front of house. They were so nice and calm and the food was beyond delicious, I moaned at every mouthful, it was actually out of this world amazing. Especially the miso soup. But the best thing is the lack of pretentiousness even though HG is such a quality place. Thankyou thankyou thankyou
MoreGreat service and lovely stuff, they have lovely cute hair bands and aprons that looks pretty cute!!And I ate the new menu Tuner Bite which was chewy and so delicious!!!
MoreGreat varience of dumplings, very attentive staffs: I like the QR ordering system too!
MoreExcellent services and lovely staffsEasy to order and payBeautifully presentation and very delicious foods!!!👏👏
MoreQuick to be seated, but food menu is small and quite expensive for average taste.
MoreFamily of 4 with 2 kids...We had a terrible time. They didnt serve any water at the table. No service and the food portions were small and way over priced. There were 2 people working up front. If they couldnt seat us to serve then I think they should of just turned us away. Very disappointed.I can make better dumplings at home .. super disappointed with everything. From. Service to the food.
MoreDecent gyoza but quite overpriced. They dont take cash and have a small notice at the front telling you so, which is very easy to miss. Service is mainly done through iPad and the little interaction I had with staff was a tad robotic.
MoreFriendly staffs, fun and unique environment. Foods are awesome, especially special menu of king fish sashimi!! We really enjoyed everything today, will be back❤️ Thanks team!
MoreA lovely experience for grazing on a Saturday afternoon, slightly more expensive then I remember but we came away satisfied.
MoreOk experience,The staff were overly friendly.the restaurant feels a little cramp for space and the food was very small for price. We received 3 small plates and with just bite size snack on each.We paid $35 for.Not somewhere we would eat again.
MoreLove taking the girlfriends here for a pot lunch, drinks and a bit of a chinwag. Great little atmosphere for it and the food is always good.
MoreYour posted hours are open until 9 arrived at 8:05 and a closed sign on the door with at least 10 people still in the restaurant eating. Update your hours to reflect the kitchen hours if you close at 8 that is rather misleading. specifically made the decision to come into Southbank spent money on an Uber to have to Uber back without the food we wanted. Only came into Southbank to come here based on your posted hours.
MoreHad dinner tonight and it was absolutely beautiful. We had a small group so ordered a heap of things to share. The cheeseburger gyoza and the buffalo chicken were delicious as was the karaage and katsu. Ordered dessert so we could try something new. The cheesecake with matcha sauce was amazing! Even managed to get someone on our table (who refused to try new thingsto admit she liked it.Toilets inside, traditional drinks and meals and cozy restaurant inside, great place to eat and unwind.
MoreWorst dine in experience. Have to order via iPad - understandable; covid times. Tried to blame us when the order went through twice even though the first time we tried ordering said "unsuccessful". Hence, another person tried via their phone. Tried refusing a refund where the food wasnt touched. Waitress was rude and mentioned that "you shouldve checked to see if the money went out" um no. If you know your system has been "sometimes glitching", you should fix the system. Not stand and try to argue with a customer infront of another table of 6 lol.Honest review even prior this mishap: not worth the money. Gyozas were decent, baos seemed premade and re-heated - soft and mushy, spicy chicken was sweet, rice was old and mushy. Decorations and atmosphere was great until ruined mid-meal.
MoreTrendy decor and the ambiance is loud and entertaining. The staff excitement of sake shots was fun and we were involved in the fun. The staff were friendly and the dumplings were nice. We enjoyed their Monday $15 Gyoza Set which was a plate of your choice of gyoza, miso soup, and either a Yuzu Highball or Yoyogi Pale Ale plus some bonus extra dishes to complete the meal.
MoreGood presentation, but really really really salty for all the dishes ordered. Portion is big though.Need a kitchen review.
MoreThere is little to no service here now, they dont even come and check on you anylonger. There are only 2 staff members on.Before covid, the service was great. They charge you $5 for coke and serve it to you room temperature? Not exceptable.I dont know how you got 4 stars with your subpar service. You used to be fun to come too, now youre basically takeaway service.Hahaha, also.Your QR codes arent fun, dont try to manipulate your patrons
MoreWe absolutely love South Bank Harajuku, we’ve been to a few different ones and this is the best! They’re food is consistently great and staff are incredible!!! The chicken wings and new bao buns are delicious!!! Can’t wait to come back!
MoreThe design of the shop is quite unique. The food wasn’t too good. The presentation of the food looks nice however they didn’t taste as good as they look.Customer service wasn’t too good either. The staff looked like they don’t want to be there. Not welcoming at all. They turned their back to the customers most of the time. You need to order through their iPad or your phone and the system is not user friendly.Did not enjoy my dining there.Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else.
MoreMediocre gyoza place in a busy restaurant strip. Service was lacklustre with a cursory explanation of ordering procedures. Avoid using the tablet, we found it to be non user-friendly.So much so, we cut short our lunch.Perhaps if your more comfortable with tech, it might be easier & a more enjoyable experience.Food was okay, what little we had.Loved the decor, very quirky & Japanese.
MoreCame here for my boyfriends birthday dinner and it was awesome! Great atmosphere, staff were amazing and the food was delicious! Cant wait to come back 😍 Strongly recommend the buffalo chicken gyoza they are DELICIOUS 🤤
More3 of us, my partner and her 12 yr old son went the Southbank venue last night. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was beautiful with good size portions. We will definately be back. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.
MoreI ordered something that traditionally requires fanfare or a lil display, as I was dining alone the waiter kindly came and asked if Id like this or not. Thank God 🤣 I dine alone in silence for a reason. Great food, but I particularly appreciated this extra considerate customer service 😁. Always nice to be treated as an individual, not a number!
MoreTrendy decor and friendly service. We had the karaage chicken curry which had a lovely sauce but the chicken was overdone. The cheese burger dumplings were tasty but the takoyaki dumplings had a strange mash potato texture.
MoreWe love this place. Sunday beer specials just put the icing on the cake. A/C is usually up high (or is that low?so bring something warm to wear.
MoreFantastic food! Delicious, quick and the waitresses Jenna and May were so friendly and helpful. We look forward to coming back on our next visit to Brissy.
MoreWe love their gyozas! Easy ordering on an iPad and delicious! You have to try the crispy prawn gyoza and the steamed pork in miso sauce! Our favourites! Cheap Beer specials to!
MoreDon’t think twice about it… GET THEM!!!!!! Mushroom karaage are delicious. So crunchy, juicy and packed with flavour
MoreThis great little restaurant has been around for years and I understand why! Their pork and sweet miso poached dumplings are simply amazing! The food and fast and delicious.
MoreWe had a sensational dinner here with all the weird and wacky gyoza combinations. They were actually very good! We loved the cheeseburger and buffalo wings one the best. We were served by the most personable and friendly staff member, Art-San, he really made our night.
MoreReally quirky place with lovely friendly staff - one of whom brought out pencils and colouring paper for the kids when they were getting fractious waiting for the food. The vege tempura was seriously crispy and I loved the dipping sauce. We tried the duck gyoza, pork gyoza and cheeseburger gyoza - all were good but the duck was a particular winner for me. Ended up with a Nutella gyoza on the house which was very satisfactory. We will return the next time we are in Brisbane!
MoreLoved almost everything we ordered, only drawback was the duck goyza - they were not good at all.
MoreAfter this place being highly recommend and the reviews matching.Im surprised and disappointed to be writing this review I have had better Gyoza at a shopping centre this can only be compared to bad bar food. It tasted like salt, salt and salt we actually left feeling ill.We also had a katsu curry bowl and eggplant tempura honestly everything was terrible bit the cheeseburger Gyoza was interesting and flavours slightly resembled a cheeseburger which is also disappointing as its the 1 non traditional dish
MoreVery happy with my first experience, its a nice small place with incredible staff, very real Japanese experience. They even do the calling you master business like the maids do in the animes. The food was very good, portions were pretty decent as well.Chicken Katsu Don & Curry were the main dishes I had, and the green tea kit kat matcha ice cream gyoza.I will definitely come back here again.Very special thanks for Art-san for being such a great host during my lunch today. My 2nd visit to your restaurant. Also thank you to the chefs for all the great food, way too much for my liking but it was all good.I complained to TheFork people that I want to use $20 instead of $50 at places like yours.Fine food, but the prices are the complete opposite of fine dining.I dont like overeating to begin with, but it also makes me feel like a real cheapskate taking advantage of a restaurant like your own.I love Japan, the people, manga, anime and cosplaying, makes me feel bad/guilty getting so much and giving so little in return.Only just made double digits at the end of the day, you would have at least gotten double what I paid in the end if I had the $20 option.Anyway thank you all very much again, I will definitely visit another time.My Dad absolutely loves the food here.He told me he had been to a few other Japanese restaurants but wasnt too thrilled with what he had.He was surprised how good the quality was and he liked everything :)
MoreGreat service, nice atmosphere. Dumplings would have been a bit better if they had been grilled a little longer. One side was crunchy and the other soggy.
MoreThe food is not bad, if there are japanese menu is better to some customers. Environment is good and confortable.
MoreIt was good. The chicken karaage and nutella gyoza was quite delicious. The cheeseburger gyoza would have been better if the mustard and tomato sauce didnt overpower the beef flavours from the gyoza. The price was reasonable for handmade gyozas.
MorePretty cool place with the ambience matching the Harajuku culture... The menu is limited by they do it well with most dishes being pretty good... If the gyoza doesnt fill you up then go for a rice bowl to play it safe. The karage chicken was the only disappointment. Its also gets pretty busy so I suggest you ring in advance for a booking or otherwise go during off-peak hours.
MoreA delightful lunch ended with a crunchy Nutella GyozaMy partner and I went for lunch at the well-recognized Harajuku Gyoza, and we were more than pleased with the food, service and overall vibe.Despite of being on a busy Southbank street, Harajuku stands out by its fun, young and modern Japanese décor. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by a staff member which seated us and thoroughly explained to us the menu and ordering process. The full explanation came after we mentioned that it was our very first time eating at the restaurant. The menu was easy to read and had excellent variety in flavours and ingredients. For drinks we ordered a Yoyogi Pale Ale and an iced green tea. The beer was out of this world (if you like fruity flavours). Certainly, this beer fitted perfectly with all the dishes we had later. To eat we had the Pork and Prawn Gyoza with Ginger and Spring Onion Dressing, Grilled Duck Gyoza, Mozzarella Cheese Gyoza, Tokayaki Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, Tebasaki Peppered Chicken Wings and the One Foot Long Fries.Overall the food was excellent. Every single plate was different to each other, providing dynamic textures, flavours and experiences. The gyozas were delicate, crispy and airy. We particularly liked the Mozzarella Cheese Gyoza, a strange but surprisingly good dish. The Takoyaki Gyoza felt like a flavour explosion in our mouths. But the one dish that felt “robust” and hit all the flavour spots was the Pork and Prawn Gyoza with Ginger and Spring Onion Dressing. Excellent execution with sharp, spicy and sweet taste. We also liked the sharing dishes (Karaage, wings and fries), but lacked flavour depth compared to the gyozas. The Chicken Karaage was average, as we felt it could have been crispier. It had a very basic flavour but improved when adding the lemon juice. The Tebasaki Peppered Chicken Wings were good but not excellent, with all of the pieces being crunchy and pleasant to eat. Some chicken pieces had no glaze, making them slightly ordinary. We were also expecting them to be peppery, but we could only taste the sweet and savory glaze. Both plates had a very uninterested presentation which diminished the positive eating experience. Finally, the One Foot Long Fries were beautiful with plenty of crunch and salt.To end our modern Japanese journey, we had a Nutella Gyoza with Vanilla Ice Cream. We very much enjoyed the crunchy gyoza. The nutty and sweet hot filling fitted perfectly with the ice cream.Regarding the service, we could not be happier. All the staff were very attentive, friendly and gave a 10/10 service. At our table we always had enough plates to eat, and the remaining ones left the kitchen in a timely and progressive manner. Only high-quality restaurants can reach this high level of dish coordination and precision.Overall this restaurant definitely embodies its 4/5 stars Google Maps rating. For me, the service, food and experience feels more like a 5/5. Without question, I will be back at this restaurant and I recommend everyone to try it.
MoreHarajuku Gyoza (south bankwas great restaurant with a vibrant feeling. The restaurant is really colourful and well maintained with a fabulous Team!!They prepare their food nice and fresh everyday - which is an amazing thing as most of the Gyoza restaurants are not following that!-> Cheeseburger Gyoza (crispy fried- Gyoza was well cooked and it was crispy with great flavours inside. 5/5-> Pork & Prawn Gyoza (Poached- Perfectly cooked with nice texture and sprinkles of spring onions on top - Cooked for perfection. 5/5-> Lemongrass Chicken Gyoza (Poached- Lemongrass Chicken was flavourful with a small touch of sour to it - which made the Gyoza Delicious. 5/5-> Chicken Karage - The pieces of chicken were nice and tendered. Usually Karage chicken would be more crispier outside but this one not as much. 4/5-> Tempura Eggplant - The eggplant was amazing inside as it was super soft and great to eat. But the Outer part (doughwas Rick hard and it makes the dish really hard to eat. 2/5-> Chicken Wings (pepper & Soy- The Chicken was perfectly cooked and it was super delicious. Filled with flavours and once you start eating, you wouldn’t want to stop!! 5/5I would definitely recommend this restaurant for everyone as the Team were great and they menu is perfect with great prices!!
MoreCame here for lunch for two people. Plenty of great gyoza fillings to choose from. You can expect the classic, friendly Japanese service, and the tables have handy buzzers so you can order as you go and at your own pace! The decor is imaginative without being too "loud", with funking ceiling lighting and unique printed plates with Japanese cultural references - the place uses some great colours, textures and lighting to keep the place inviting. We got the standard pork gyoza, lemongrass chicken gyoza, one serve of fried chicken, edamame and some drinks. Serving of edamame was plentiful, the fried chicken was to die for and the gyoza where amazing! We got one serving of the gyoza steamed instead of fried like normal, Ive never had it this way. It was ok, and might be a slightly healthier option, but would probably stick to all fried in future if I manage to go again as they are just that much more scrumptious. All in all a great place to eat, dont hesitate to walk in!
MoreGood experience, staff was really helpful.Since meat not halal therefore with limited vegetarian and seafood options it was a bit tough :)Ordered vege gyoza tempura eggplant cheese crispy gyozas edamame and Nutella gyozas really liked it
MoreDecent menu variety of Gyoza. Would only go here only solely for them. Other items such as ramen and karaage felt a bit below ordinary. Customer service here was great though!
MoreI love this chain. Great place on a cold night. The pork Gyoza and the agadashi tofu, the cloudy sake are my favourites.
MoreFirst time at this restaurant. I liked it. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The range of food is terrific, and very tasty. Its a terrific sharing food. Its cooked fresh and delivered promptly. Unfortunately their electronic ordering system does not provide split bills so its the old one per table. So take cash if its a group. So do yourself a favour
MoreGuess it depends what you order. I tried one of the lunch specials called a Prawn Burrito and I didnt like it at all. The description was good with prawn and crab but it was filled with lots of carrots and an outer layer of rice, seaweed and crushed wasabi peas. It was large, cold and hard to eat. After eating it like a roll, I tried to open it up on my plate to see if it would be better. Nope so I gave it away and then ordered a Duck Gyoza instead. Staff are friendly but the table service is poor as they leave your table cluttered with plates no matter how many times they come back to serve you. They hand you the food into your hands rather than clear the table!! Very noisy with constant yelling. Good if you want that atmosphere for drinking with buddies?
MoreIve been to a lot of Japanese restaurants both domestically and internationally, sadly this is not one of those I would recommend.I do appreciate the internal deco but that seems to be the only high-light during the dinner. We had plastic cup for water that actually had lipstick mark on it. And there is one choice for ramen which is chicken, how unauthentic!! The dumplings are absolutely overpriced, $8 for 3 prawn dumplings that each only have one prawn as the filling but nothing else?! Cant be serious. The chicken ramen taste really plain and boring. And the pork in the pork katsudon actually have a bad smell when chewing. Moreover, just like some of other who commented here, the staff are yelling so loud that eventually everyone got annoyed by it. I know they are saying "Welcome to our restaurant" and "thank you", but that level of noise is really unnecessary. If you have a lot of dinning experience in Japanese food, this place wont be a good place for your taste bud.Hence, 4-start for deco, 3-star for customer service, 1-star for food quality, overall 2-star.
