Set on the Appomattox River off Interstate 95, this casual, modern hotel is 2.5 miles from Virginia State University and 5 miles from Fort Lee Army Base.Bright rooms include free Wi-Fi, minifridges and custom-designed beds, plus both full desks and lap desks (for working on the bed), coffeemakers, microwaves and flat-screen TVs.Free perks include parking, hot breakfast (daily) and weekday breakfast bags to go. There's also a heated indoor pool, a whirlpool and a gym, plus a business center and meeting space.
The cleaning of the rooms was the only problem they stated that they was short on cleaning staff
Im a Diamond Hilton Honors member, and I typically stay anywhere between 60-90 nights in a hotel per year. Having said that, I have never experienced such an awful hotel stay and experience. More importantly, I have NEVER been bitten by bed bugs. NEVER.I should have heeded the numerous red flags and warnings upon checkin and immediately switched hotels. On September 20, 2022, I arrived just after 9 pm for a one-night stay, and my digital key didnt work. Definitely an annoyance, but admittedly a minor inconvenience. I went back down to the lobby and the receptionist gave me a physical key. When I went back to the room and opened the door with the physical key, I noticed that the deadbolt didnt work. I went back down to the receptionist and asked her to switch rooms. She politely switched my room to another one. I went back up to my new room, and guess what? There were dirty towels all over the bathroom floor. Once again, I went down to the receptionist. (If theres a silver lining in this story, its that the receptionist was super polite and professional The receptionist promptly gave me yet another room. I went back upstairs to the 3rd room of the night. This one wasnt perfect (housekeeping neglected to properly clean bathroom corners of hair and debris, and there was a random iPhone charger left in the room), but because it was late, and I was only there one night, I *thought* everything would be fine. Also, its important to note that at this point, I had been assigned a room on 3 different floors - 6th, 3rd, and 2nd - and on every floor there were bags of trash piled outside of numerous guest rooms.Fast forward to the next morning, I *attempted* to use the hotel gym. The AC wasnt working and both treadmills were broken. Go figure. I opted to skip breakfast due to my health and safety concerns about the hotel. Now this is where we go from bad stay to horrible stay... When I arrived home that evening, I noticed bites characteristic of bed bug bites. I can say with certainty that these bites were NOT present prior to my stay at this hotel of horrors. I wish I had read the reviews prior to booking this hotel because it seems Im not the only one who has been the victim of bed bug bites in recent weeks/months. It seems quite negligent for the property to conduct business as usual knowing theres an issue (dare I say infestation?with bed bugs.Needless to say, I will NEVER be staying here again.
Digital key did not work on my room lock. The hotel is very dated. The fitness room had 2 of the 4 machines out of order. Took me 30 minutes to find the one outlet in the corner of the room with hidden USB ports to charge devices. There was not even an alarm clock, a lot of times the alarm clock has ports on them. The WiFi was not working at all so not work got done. No body wash was in bathroom. Overall needs better presentation and upgrades. Will update with breakfast review. But not looking forward to it. I stay exclusively at Hilton brands and this has been the worst of the bunch.
If cleanliness and having and updated room is important to you then this may not be the place you want to stay. Although the front desk staff is extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, the rooms are very dirty and outdated. The bathroom soap holder and toiletries were covered in the previous guests beard trimmings, there was black mildew lining around the caulked parts of the tub so badly, thick layers of dust/dirt covered the light switches and outlets and the list can go on and on. I asked for my room to be serviced and it didn’t get done, the next day I asked again and stripped the entire bed and placed it in a pile on the floor in the hopes of getting new linens and housekeeping took those same linens off the floor and put it back on the bed. I will not be staying here again.
Stayed here for 1 night on my way home from visiting family in Florida. Hotel seemed nice enough, but I got bed bug bites all over my body. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
My landlord put me in a hotel for 7 days while my home is being worked on. I was only in my room for about 4 hours before I realized there was a bed bugs. I have bites all over my back, and legs. I showed the front desk the bed bug pictures and my bites. She was very nice, and attempted to find me another room. However, the 2nd room I was put in also had bed bugs. She offered my landlord a full refund, but I feel like I should post this because why isn’t this hotel shut down for renovations or repairs to fix this issue? The last thing I wanted to do was stay in a hotel for a week, but to make matters worse deal with bed bugs and welps on my body from the bites.
Very convenient location for our intended destination. Room was fine, except when we got there they sent us to the wrong room and we had to wait until they found our correct room. Continental breakfast was nothing special. Eggs were no good. At least they had a Continental breakfast though.
This hotel is one of the worst Hampton Inns I have ever stayed in. Mold in bathroom, toothpaste on bathroom door, dirty bathroom floor, dirty and stained carpet, window sheers torn to shreds. When we brought this to the attention of the manager she comp’ed our room. She indicated that they are due for a major renovation this fall. Renovations or not, the room should have been clean.I am finding that the Hampton Inn chain is no longer consistent with the cleanliness and quality of their accommodations. I will be steering away from Hampton Inns for future travel.
No one was a the desk when we arrived, about 10:30pm. Thankfully we had prechecked in and had a digital key. We were tired from traveling and went to bed fairly quickly. There was a group of people downstairs, outside that were loud, talking, laughing, etc. until 1:30am! Why was that permitted? Its a hotel off the highway that people stop at to sleep!
We had an issue with the light in the bathroom and the one right inside the door. We went out while the repairs were being made and when we returned about an hour later we found the door had been left open and the repair man had left.
Elisa at front desk was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Would stay there again.
Overall hotel is in great condition and on par with what you expect from Hampton Inn. Staff is friendly but unreliable. Stayed 2 weeks and asked for my room to be cleaned three times. First time they did it. Second time I had to ask twice. Third time they just didnt do it.I also asked for a late check out and they told me Id have to talk to house cleaning. I asked who do I talk to and they said they wouldnt be there for a few hours. I expect my concierge to coordinate for me and let me know. Just disappointed with this whole experience.
Its good for the location. If the wind catches the smell of the huge dump behind them(not their faultwell, then not so much. But best place in Colonial Heights and super quiet as there is no freeway or road close by. Yet 1 minute of the O95. Now add fruit back to your breakfast and daily housekeeping plus the to go breakfast and you get one or two more stars.
Amari at the front desk was sooo nice and helpful. And I dont know her. Id want to come back on her shift. Everyone is friendly and its clean
Nice staff, clean, offered water and cookies and coffee, good breakfast, but Pool, one elevator was down. Toilet problems in some rooms and no restaurant.
Erika C. Made my check in smooth process. She was accommodating and professional. I am a road warrior and I wish all my check ins were professional as Erika C provided. This Hampton Inn is my new go to when I am in the area for business.
Poor experience as I traveled 6 hours for a soccer tournament. The hotel is very outdated. The lobby furniture and walls need a thorough cleaning/stain removal. Floor 6, room 608 had a very old and damp smell. Water leaked through window onto the air conditioning unit. The mattress is in need of replacement. The shower door was broken and came off the hinges. Pool was closed even though it was advertised to be open. Management should truly take a look into this hotel and their amenities. This hotel was listed as an option for The Regional Jeff Cup Soccer Tournament and unfortunately they were not prepared to host. Erica the manager was displeased with a group of 20 people within the main lobby. She voiced her complaints and concerns about loud noise, which happened to consisted of conversations among parents and children. This hotel does not seem to be child friendly. I am very disappointed and discouraged as a previous Hampton Inn customer.
Great customer service from the employees. Uncomfortable beds and pillows, pool was closed despite being advertised as open due to COVID-19. Smelled like smoke. The elevator was down while we were staying so I had to get my small children and all of their stuff up and down the stairs.
The front office staff could not have been better. They deserve a 5. Erica, Jarontarris Thompson, Brie to name a few could not have made the welcome more warm and they were accommodating. The facilities were regretfully the low point. I changed rooms (which Erica and Jarontarris was all overbecause my first bed mattress was not good, the room temperature was difficult to regulate (could not find the "too hot" or "too cold" balance.), and the gym was okay at best, but one of the treadmills stopped mid run and I almost flew off!If I were to stay there again, I know the staff is among the best I have ever seen, just wish the facilities were a bit better! But thanks as always!
My room was disgusting and looked like it was midway through renovation. Stains all over the carpet, lots of hair on the bathroom floor and shower shelf, splashes on walls, no free wifi, no hot, not even warm water in the morning. Much worse than rooms that are $30 cheaper
Blessed to find this Hampton Inn. I 64 stopped cold with accidents and snow covered trees littering the highway. We made the decision to leave, onto 15 S. Not good. Worse road conditions and power out for 50 miles. Took 60 E and finally found power at Sheetz, where folks were getting food and fuel for powerless homes.Traveled to I 95 via 288 and got on the interstate, almost gleefully. Found the Hampton online and made a reservation, thinking I was on Hampton reservations. It was a service provider and they charged $195 for my room.I get to the hotel and meet a front desk angel, Erica. She removed the over charge and my room was $135. She recommended Olive Garden, also staffed by intrepid blizzard survivors. Enjoyed our meal and went back to the comfort of Hampton Inn. Watched the Steelers Ben Roethlisberger complete his career at Heinz Field and curled up on my comfy king bed fit for...ME!!!Thank you, Hampton Inn, fir saving the day...and night.
Rooms were very clean, concierge was fantastic, getting us our keys with almost little to no wait time. Parking lot and greeting area are very clean and presentable. Enjoyed my stay.
Erica checked us in and she was wonderful. She was extremely friendly and helpful. Our room however had a strange odor and the carpet was extremely stained. The entry light would go off and come back on randomly. One of the worse Hampton Inns I have stayed at.
Run down with locks and strike plates missing from exit doors inside and outside the building. Pool under renovation. TV Direct TV modem out of service. Light bulb in the guest room lamp was past expiration. The property, however, is priced accordingly. Fitness room, however, is in reasonably good condition. Breakfast okay.
I liked the Colonial Heights hotel as well as location of the hotel itself. Its close to the mall, restaurants, gas stations and the interstate. The parking was convenient and the hotel accommodations were relatively new and up to date. Ill definitely book to stay there again. Mike C.
I couldnt select 0 stars or I wouldve. The worst Hilton hotel I have ever stayed in. Choose the Hilton Garden Inn Southpark over this one. The entire hotel was disgustingly filthy, the carpets were stained, the elevator smelled horrible and had trash/ smudges all over. My first room had torn curtains, no duvet, dirty appliances, ice blocked fridge, no desk chair at the business desk.. just awful. The hallways felt like a sauna and they had huge loud fans on both ends of the hall which made it difficult to sleep. The second room they moved me to wasnt much better but tolerable since the HGI was booked solid that I normally stay in. The desk employees were friendly and as helpful as they could be BUT overall the hotel needs oversight and some serious maintenance and employee training in housekeeping. Definitely not a hotel they should be proud of and this Diamond member will never stay there again. Book elsewhere until they get it together.
They overbooked their hotel and could not honor my reservation. Extremely dissatisfied. I had to drive to Richmond to get a room even though I had made a reservation and had it confirmed the day before. “Sorry, ma’am. No one assigned you a room.” Is the best explanation I got.
Very nice. staff was wonderful. Breakfast is included. Just wish they would have gluten free items for breakfast like Cheerios, gluten free bagels etc. Quick prepackaged items like the Resident Inn has at its breakfast included deal.
SERVICE: 4 StarsCLEANLINESS: 4 StarsThe check-in process was a bit slow. The room they selected was not clean by check-in time. The front desk staff was apologetic.Waited nearly 1 he for them to complete the cleaning...seems they are a bit under staffed.I was notified the room was ready. The room was a large "accessible" room on the 6th floor. It was cooled, and cleaned.Minor complaints: the in room refrigerator was small....the opening was quite a bit larger as if the original fridge was removed. On the left side of the bed, the lamp was missing; only the brackets remainedThe staff is friendly and courteous. While in the halls, the cleaning personnel will greet you with a hello whenever you pass by.I would stay here again. Of the two minor issues that I found, only the missing lamp was a big deal to me. The small refrigerator is not an issue.
THE QUALITY OF THE ROOMS WELL BELOW WHAT A HILTON BASE HOTEL should be, one of the desk clerks was rude. Rugs in rooms were filthy, other room smelt horrible, at close to 150.00 a night the rooms were horrible. On a positive note the other desk clerk was very nice and accommodating and showed me a cleaner room but still disappointed.
Our hotel stay was less than desirable. The bathroom was in a state of disrepair. The tiles were falling off, the back of the toilet was broken, and the bathtub faucet was coming off the wall. Everything felt damp the whole time even without having showered. The hallways smelled like sewer and to top it off, we had a visit from a spider in the night. I do not recommend.
Hosted a baby shower in one of the meeting rooms and also stayed over one night in one of the rooms. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. The parking lot is small and fills rather quickly. My room was clean and comfortable. Would host future events here and would also stay again.
ADA compliant inside and outside. Facilities are very well kept. Rooms are very reasonable. Appears the room furniture has seen many guest. Breakfast was something left to be desired. Not very good selection. Staff were very well groomed and courteous.
I attended a baby shower held in one of their smaller reception rooms.... Im thinking something was wrong with the AC unit... It was unseasonably hot... Simply HOT.... They provided floor fans however it was still warm. The staff was nice however .... I left wondering was it just that room that was hot or was that a hotel wide issue .... I was going to stay over night but changed my mind.
Got there later than expected. Rooms were booked and paid for by a relative. Young man told us the reservation was canceled because it was after midnight. And we had to re book the rooms. Needless to say I was too tired to really argue( drove from South Carolinaand i re booked the the room. And give him my CC. I told my Brother and he went to the Hotel and took care of the issue...The hotel it self was very nice. But the guy on the desk was not. Yes there could have been a better way. And I hope he is retrained so that this doesnt happen to anyone else.
First time in a Hampton Inn. Customer service is spectacular. They called the room an hour after I checked in to check in on me (hahaand make sure everything was fine and if I needed anything. Also, the bed super comfy. Good hotel experience overall. 2 thumbs up! Only complaints would be the squeaky bathroom floor and the TV remotes ability to change input isnt there. (Can still do it from TV though)
Cons: The first room we checked had a foul smell. We walked in and right out the front desk rep gave us another room. The new room Smelled like smoke and lysol we only needed the room for a few hours so we stayed. the room was clean but there was cobb webs and dead bugs in the ceiling corners and I couldnt rest well in a room like that.Pros: The morning staff was all very nice. The bed was comfy and the shower water pressure was good.
