Hagood Mill - Historical landmark in Anderson, United States
My family has been going here for picnics for as long as I can remember and Im 40 now. I was 10-13 years old telling my parents and family that the writing on the rock was the Indians trying to tell us something.
Very nice day trip. I understand that the 3rd Saturday in November has quite a bit more going on. Interested to see the mill, blacksmith and artifacts. A few vendors there selling crafts. Beautiful scenery.
Great story telling sessions at the mill tonight. Some good spooky tales.
Looked beautiful but couldnt visit due to the bridge being out. 😥
Beautiful place so relaxing and its free! We left a donation. Self guided tour lots of history here
Lots to explore in a small area. If you are interested in the history of First Nation tribes the petroglyphs are amazing. They are well preserved and viewed with an educational light/audio presentation. Many artifacts from the area on display. There is a lovely short nature walk, the old mill and house to explore, and a shop with local goods. The fresh stone milled grits and cornmeal are a must have.
Very nice historical park with several restored buildings, and a small but impressive archaeology museum.
Nice big open space with plenty of coverage & a good-sized bandstand.
This place is awesome. Me and my wife was on a motorcycle ride when we came across the Hagood Mill. Very friendly staff very clean and full of knowledge. I highly recommend anyone in the area stop by and check it out. You wont be disappointed

Some locally made crafts (I bought two pairs of earrings!Kid friendly; history appreciating adults!Sure: restrooms clean!I hope to visit again in fall when theres a gathering of Native Nations.Come. Walk (easily visited, easy and close in paths.Learn. Pause and get a few connections of our common history.
It was great to see the old water mill.
Love the mill. had some great banjo pickers too. come git ya grits on👍💯🏆🇺🇲
Have enjoyed several folklife weekends here listening to music, talking with craftspeople, touring the historic buildings.
Really cool historical place with lots to see
The website gives you the phone number to call and when you do call, the woman who picks up does not want to answer questions or communicate information about the site and tells you to "go online." Very lazy and rude with a major attitude in her voice. Drawing a salary without actually working must be her normal course of action.
Our 1st trip we enjoyed a lovely day and EVERYTHING you offer there - and there is so very much and so many different things to see and hear and experience! Our 2nd trip we enjoyed a rainy day of seeing and hearing Chuck Brodsky who we have enjoyed at other venues - and we never got wet though it was rainy! Took this panaroma picture the 1st time we were there! Wish you could see this very wide picture!
My daughter and I went to the Native American Pow Wow and enjoyed the event tremendously. The presentation were well done and the vendors had a great selection of items on display!
Had a great time at Hagood Mill, my son and I walked around the historic area, while attending the First annual Pow Wow in Pickens at the Hagood Mill Amphitheater. If my memory serves me well, it has been expanded, since my last visit in late 1980s into early 1990s.... I love the setup of the mill ,and the blacksmith shop and now a little store to sell the "fresh" cornmeal and grits grinded from the mill.... What a experience... We will visit often...
We love Hagood Mill! We buy the yellow grits and they are delicious. Plus its a great place to visit.
Really enjoyed time with friends walking through the historic buildings and having the bonus of a Pow Wow happening at the same time. Got to see some dancing and look at vendors on top of the historic site. Beautiful weather. Doesnt take very long to tour.
So happy we finally stopped to see the mill. What a comfortable walk through history and nature.
Loved it! The old still was interesting! Blacksmith working Mill not working Saturday we there but very cool. Was able buy gifts like moonshine jelly, popcorn meal ect at gift shop.
Ron Masters gave us a tour yesterday that was just incredible. He knew the natural history, the human history and the history of each building and its significance. He was the perfect companion and guide. We enjoyed the afternoon on so many levels. Thanks to Ron and the many volunteers that make Hagood Mill the gem that it is.
They were closed when we went there today. But the water wheel was working. They have put up another log cabin. My son and I were riding our motorcycles and he wanted to go up there cause we havent been in 10 years. The place reminds me of how I grew up. Most things were simpler back then. This place goes back farther than I do. Its beautiful up there.
beautiful place for nature, concerts, history, and learning.
Great place to stop and spend an hour or two. Interesting exhibits and the blacksmith and cane weaving were fun to watch. Some cool stuff to be had in the gift shop as well. Friendly and helpful staff.
We stopped in here today to visit. We have came before but towards the end of the day and didnt get the opportunity to walk around. We greatly recommend visiting. There were several buildings to explore and amazing volunteers that are super knowledgeable and friendly. Theres several buildings to explore and they have seasonal events. There is a gift shop as well.
Love hagood mill! Both the side with the historic buildings and the side with the stream. We visit the stream side quite often and play in the sand, build damns and even play disc golf. Its a nice place to enjoy some outside time.
If you like mountain history, you will love this place. There is a water-driven mill still working and a number of cabins and buildings very nicely restored in a very cozy setting. The site is easily accessible. Theres an ongoing series of interesting festivals and events at this site.
Well kept, informative, historic site. Great place to visit!
This is like taking a step back in time. They have done an incredible job in preserving the past. No admission fee, either. A great place to bring the kids.
We arrived just after closing but the grounds were nice. We found a geocash on the property, an additional bit of fun. They have a variety of programs coming up. Definitely heading back soon
This place is awesome. All ages can find something to enjoy about this place. The cooler weather helps out with the walking. The monthly activities allows our family to arrange their schedules so that they can attend these events as well. Im all about family time and this is a wonderful place to do that. Bring a picnic and sit under the trees and feel the cool breeze blow. Its worth the drive if youre not a local.
What a great spot to visit! We were up in the area to see some of the state parks and kept passing the signs for Hagood Mill and decided to look it up. We love historic sites, and this was great! - an active blacksmith shop, looms and spinning wheels, pottery barn, etc. I especially enjoyed the setup in the mill itself though. Everything looks well taken care of and was a delight to look through. We did the nature trail with kids as young as toddler age. I wasnt sure what to expect with the petroglyph area, but I really thought that was well done also. There is a small museum-type room and in the back is a dark room with the petroglyphs on a large rock with a show done every so often. It is definitely worth watching. Also, I just want to note that entrance is free. I know they do lots of events, so I cant speak to that. I couldnt find any information about the regular daily price, so in case anyone else is wondering, there isnt one. Only donation boxes placed in a few spots. We brought a picnic and had lunch at the tables there. All in all it was a great stop for a long morning excursion and I would recommend it!
What a fun hidden gem of the Upstate! I grew up minutes away from here and didn’t know it existed until today. Great educational site for all ages with lots to see and do. My family and I enjoyed our morning exploring the grounds and we look forward to returning for their special events in the future. Big thanks to Pamela in the gift shop for all the information and some great cocoa!
This place is one of the best historical sites that I have seen. It has been kept up very well and it is beautiful. This was our first time visiting here and I was told to come on a Saturday because they have several events going on. I would recommend preparing a picnic basket and have some fun!
What a wonderful pitstop on our way to the mountains. The petroglyphs, the Water Mill, the blacksmith class, the old still, the serene views and photo ops.
One of my favorite places to go. Very family friendly and beautiful.
Perfect little gem in Pickens County. I took my kids and we took the blacksmith 101 class they offer now. It was great. At lunch we toured the area and it was very cool to see the history. I will go back for other events.
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful....AWESOME place for Pics..They definitely get my 5 stars!!
The place is clean and full of historical data, is well preserved, and free but donations are accepted. Check their website they have tons of events. And the mill runs every 3rd Saturday of each month. Great day trip for all ages.
Disc golf, why didnt I know this was here. Old mill, prehistoric rock carvings, nature trails! I knew about the mill and the rock carvings but this place has so much more to offer. Whether you want to check out history, play a round of disc golf, or just a new place to walk your dog around this is the place for you
Great historical location. Has light walking trails and a disc golf course!
We met a good friend here as our last hoorah before she moved to california. The kids loved playing with all the sand, rockers, steps, etc. And loved looking out the windows of each of the buildings. The adults loved the hostorical aspect of the place and enjoyed spending time with one another wothout having to keep the kids glued to their hips
Im gonna sell my house and build one these log cabins. I wish. Having a good time with few my brothers of the Southern Survivors M C.
Love this place! I moved here in 2012. My ancestors in the 1700s lived here. Hagood Mill captures history and often has fun family outings that help you reconnect with the past! 💗Ive learned so much about my heritage simply by enjoying many of the things Hagood Mill has to offer.
This place is a hidden gem. Beautiful scenery and friendly folks. Very interesting for children. No charge except on 3rd Saturday then only $5 for parking. Different live music for third Saturday - Great entertainment for $5!
Great place to take the family, kids or just to escape by yourself. Monthly activities, learning experiences, music, food and fun and more. Historic and fun!!!! Great way to spend a Saturday once a month.
3rd Saturday of every month is a town festival featuring some theme: Native American, Celtic, fiddlers. Different crafts, trades, and wares to watch, partake in, and purchase. Period cabins and the working mill make for a great outing for anyone of any age.
Great Amazing, and Definitely Historic. Great place to bring you family! Twice a month they have living history days, plus always special events planned. Great place for a picnic too. Working grist mill and living history farm!
