Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in Sherman
Description
Privilege
Great place to hike , saw deer drinking on pond trail.
I truly enjoyed learning so much bout the former town of Hagerman along with the wildlife! This center was very informative!
MoreHaggerman is great!. If u are fishing I recommend gearing up for catfish. Hit the pads and cast towards structure. Chicken breast, shad and whatever else u bring will catch these blue catfish. Look at the haggerman map before u come that way you are familiar with the layout of the sanctuary. You will have to deal with gar fish unfortunately... they are everywhere in the bottom of the big mineral. Please pickup all trash and respect all wildlife and plants.
MoreNice quite place but there wasnt much birds around.
Great place to go if you love nature and want to possibly see some wildlife, good for photography, fishing, and hiking too. Even can kayak or go boating if you have one.
MoreNeat place. Saw some nice wildflowers. Gotta watch out for the fire ant hills on the trails.
MoreThis is a wonderful place to visit. I hiked the meadow pond trail it was very easy and beautiful hike. The driving trail is perfect for the summer heat and gives you amazing up close views of the wildlife.

MoreBeautiful refuge. They have an audio tour you can do on your phone. The employees were very friendly and helpful at the visitor center. We did the junior ranger book and liked the bird blind in the building. They have activities for kids on weekends, a butterfly garden and a nature trail hike. We really enjoyed it.
MoreThese pics are May 2022. Amazing wildflowers. The visitor center is gull of historical and biological information and conducts many workshops. Hagerman has self guided auto tours that are nothing less than amazing. Year round there are multitudes of birds as they travel the US Central fly zone. Be respectful and go slow...great fishing and special events as well. This place never disappoints.
MoreAmazing place to visit!A must swe!
Love being with nature and birding? Awesome trails and you may also drive through. Huge variety of birds, changing constantly.
MoreGreat place to see birds! Even saw a white pelican.
Terrific visitors center, fun hikes, lots of animals, and a nice auto tour. Feels like were on a safari. Even have junior ranger badges for the kiddos. Thank you!
MoreTheres always something new to see or find at Hagermans, whether its a cool bird flying right by you, or a turtle in the pond. Its a great place to walk around, drive around, or just sit and de-stress with nature, i love going and Ill definitely keep going
MoreBeautiful place with lots to do. Lots of wildlife too. I didnt make it into the visitors center but I will when I come back.
MoreShort trails, is a car-to-ride-park, I prefer to walk and watch the wild life, in the mean time on the shore there was a lot of trash, probably from neighbors or visitors I’m not sure, you should keep and eye on that.
MoreThis is the best birding experience I have ever had. Took at least 20 new birds on this visit. I have never seen so many different varieties of hawks in one place. Awesome site!
MoreThis is a wonderful to drive thru and stop to take trails at your leisure. We saw a great amount of waterfowl and great blue heron in abundance. Trigger warning: audio tour is awesome but mislabeled by one station. So prepare yourselves.
MoreLoved my visit to Hagarman NWR! The geese numbered in the thousands! Great experience!
MoreBeautiful as always, very peaceful and easy but long trails. Plenty of bird and wildlife watching, so far Ive seen wild pigs, coyotes and a family of deer. If you want to get away from the city noise, this is a good place.
MoreThis will always be my place of peace. I love the trails, the nature and the beauty of hagermans.
MoreHagerman is one of my favorite places to go when I need to find my peace. The sunsets are breathtaking! Weve spent many years riding through the "Pads" with our kids and now our grandbabies. I hope to pass on my appreciation for the beautiful scenery and wildlife. Its different everytime we visit. Even in the dead of winter its beautiful. I love watching storms light the sky at night. There are lots of places to go for a picnic, take pictures, find some peace of mind, and make unforgettable memories. Our son who passed away loved Hagerman and visiting his favorite spots makes me feel like Im spending time with him. Thats priceless.
MoreFantastic place to observe and take photos of wildlife!
Nice place for walk and lake view pictures. There is a small patch of butterfly garden.
MoreNice place with good trails and dog friendly as long as theyre on a leash. Lots of wildlife. Try the meadow pond trail.
MoreI love getting the opportunity to go bike riding at Hagermans. It is only 20 minutes or so from my work. The rangers are very friendly and helpful. As a woman, I always feel safe out here. Plenty of roads for riding and well maintained. The butterfly garden near the visitor center is gorgeous.

Fantastic trip if you are into birding or peaceful landscapes. Beg, borrow or steal some binoculars.
MoreTo many cars to ride a bike unless your on the 2 trails. To ride open trail a lot of cars
MoreGreat place to hike and bird watch up along Lake Texhoma. Several flat trails ranging from a little over a half mile and up to 4.5 miles round-trip, out and back. Great for families and dogs (leashed, of course). Relatively short drive from Dallas and a solid day trip destination.
MoreLots of wildlife to see and very accessible. There is a very nice butterfly garden too.
MoreSaw lots of waterbirds, did a 4 mile loop on the Haller’s Haven trail. Trail was easy and well maintained and had wild flowers and butterflies We were able to walk along the shore of the Lake Texoma. There is an auto tour which is the nicely laid out so you can see a lot of birds from the car. Not sure why the southern part of a National wildlife Refuge is full of oil pumps.
MoreWe had a great day here fishing. We drove around for part of the audio tour. Visitor center was closed (Covidbut looks really nice. Cant wait to go back.
MoreGreat place for bird watching. Very nice driving trail through the wetlands. Hiking trails also.

MoreMy first time visiting this place. I loved and highly recommend it to anyone. There are a variety of nice things to every taste and age. They have a map to help yourself and there are no charge for the visit.
MoreWe had an awesome time driving around and walking around listening and looking at the birds, butterflies, flowers & the rest of the nature. This is a great way to get outdoors, sit, walk, fish etc. Oh right before you drive into the park is a trail on the right & up the hill was the most amazing hidden field of flowers youll see them in the pictures attached. The butterfly garden was also great by the visitor center. This is definitely a place to check out!
MoreWe were greeted warmly by staff and was given lots of information about the park. There is so much wildlife to see and much of the park is accessible by car so anyone can visit. It is worth the drive to come visit here.
MoreEnjoyed driving through and taking a short hike. It was a beautiful day and we saw lots of ducks and wild geese. Looking forward to coming back in the spring when the wild flowers are in bloom.
MoreNice, well maintained hiking trails and bird watching are great things to do here. They also have free tram rides on the weekends and some presentations. Picnic areas and fishing. Visitor center is nice and clean with a nice gift shop. Snow geese are here now so lots of them to see along with many other birds; pelicans, herons, ducks and more. Short of a hidden gem. Not crowded.
MoreA great, north Texas, birding & wildlife sanctuary...Bring your camera or binoculars. ☆☆☆☆☆November to March is a fabulous peroid of time to visit & spend aday, capturing images & touring the trails & roads.
MoreReally enjoyed myself. The views were great and I got a lot of nice pictures. I drive through a couple of times and then walked the meadow pond trail. Saw a bald eagle and Deaver pond. The American lotus at Meadow pond was beautiful. Its a long trail so, be prepared.
MoreThere is nothing not to love about this amazing place. Even with the recent high water issues, there are areas to explore. The visitors center is so nice and the people are friendly.
MoreVery beautiful place, good hiking trails. Lots of wild animals to see. We observed a coyote and a baby black bear at different times.
MoreThis place is amazing!!!Great scenery, fun drive, good for picnics or just overall connecting with nature. Park staff and super polite and helpful!
MoreBeautiful wildlife refuge, thousands of birds depending on the time of the year. Very nice visitor center and several hiking trails to choose from.
MoreYou want to visit this out of the way park! When you do take the drive all the way to the end of the park and then do the Ponds Trail hike. Also stop into the visitor center a. The volunteers who work here are very knowledgeable and eager to give you a bird or insect book to look up the wildlife that you find on your visit.
