Hafnarstræti Hostel in Akureyri

I did not sleep very well there due to the high level of noise emanatingfrom the air ventilation and god knows what other kind of mechanical noises. the "capsules" are basically bunk beds with thin plastic walls and you can hear everything from the neighboring cells. bathrooms were clean though. the owner/receptionist was very unfriendly and turned off the high lights in the eating hall, replacing it with tiny lights at the sides. she refused to explain and to me that was an unprecedented act of unkindness in the service industry! also: no towels included. to rent a towel you have to pay 1000 Kronas extra.

Landlady is strick, but everything is under control. Everything is clean and tidy.The bathrooms are perfect.

Looking for an attraction? Than this is a great choice. Looking for a good sleep? Than choose something else. The whole place feels a bit chaotic and unorganized.

Coolest place I have stayed in! Very cheap price and I love that youre in a capsule so I feel like you have great privacy, security, and the noise level is more quiet. Check in was easy, you have to walk into the main entrance and take an elevator then leave your shoes and walk up stairs. The restrooms were plentiful and clean. Loved the "futuristic" idea of the pods! Super cool idea.

While the hotel itself is very modern and clean, there are a few downsides: the capsules are not isolated at all,which means you can hear every sound your (manyneighbours make. For example during my stay someone let their alarm ring for a good hour. People were loudly arriving until late hours and getting up early, which means you will likely not get a lot of sleep (or bring earplugs ;). I also think charging ~7€ (1000ISKfor using a towel once is quite a lot.

When I made the reservation online, I made a mistake. I found out right away and called to cancel. I realized that it was nonrefundable so I told the hotel that it could keep one night money. But, the hotel refused to refund any.You would think that any business with consciousness will not take any custom money for doing nothing. In fact, my friends and I had similar experiences with other hotels; all refunded all money we put down. But, not this hotel. It tells you something about this hotel so think twice when making a reservation with this place.

Loved the Pods.Otherwise, its just like most other hostels.

Very nice and friendly. Clean and very high standard, to a very nice price. You can watch tv inside your tube and you can leave food in the kitchen. Very nice hosts. Helpful. I really recommend this for a fun thing to do, we got a really good night sleep and could escape the rainy and stormy weather at the same time.

The hosts here are so friendly (they just shared local donuts with the folks in the common area! They also explain everything thoroughly when you first check in. Absolutely would stay again and highly recommend. Bathrooms were spotless, linens fresh and clean. Everything is new!

Very friendly couple who own this place who are hard workers. The place was clean with good amenities for preparing your food. The pods are nicer then previous ones I stayed at before coming here. The place is well positioned on high Street in town centre. I look forward to exploring the mountains today.

We enjoyed this unique lodging experience as sci-fi enthusiasts. The pods were fun and perfect for futuristic photos. The host was responsive and welcoming. The shower and bathroom was clean. The only downside was that the pods were slightly noisy if you had to exit and re enter at night.

Great location, lot of restaurants and things to do at walking distance. Great for an experience if you have never experienced your stay in a capsule style hostel. They charge about $5-$8 each to rent a bath towel which is not a lot but for someone who’s visiting them first time we thought this information would be really helpful. We experienced our interactions with staff was lil bit rude but overall our stay was quite good.

Very clean. The kitchen was very good with professional forniture! The bed was comfortable and the very kind and nice hospitality. Well come back for sure!

Better than I thought it would be. Plenty of bathrooms and showers, and the pod itself was more comfortable than I thought itd be. Definitely slightly noisy in such close quarters with others

Lots of recent reviews mention breakfast, but when we were there in June 2021 breakfast was not offered. That said, we liked this place. We stayed mainly for the novelty of sleeping in a capsule and they are great. Ive always slept well in alcove beds or tents or other areas where you feel cozy and protected and the capsule experience is just like that. They are not sound or vibration proof so you know there are other people around you but its not enough to mess up sleep (then again the place was only about 25% full so I dont know what full capacity would be like). Each capsule has internal ventilation fans (low, med, high speedswhich for us worked fine to keep the air fresh. Each capsule also has a wall-sized tv with chromecast. The common room is nice and conducive to conversations with fellow travelers and the book selection is really nice, focused on Iceland and local culture. I have much respect for the owners and the work they did to make this place work -- high volume lodging that is clean and efficient.

Amazing place I came in for one night just to experience the concept of a cubicle after usually staying in four-star hotels. And I loved it so much I am now here for six daysthe hosts are wonderful people and there’s a lot of common space.Also the breakfast is outstanding

The hostel is run by a very friendly and accommodating couple.We were welcomed very nicely and the conditions were explained to us.Everything was very clean. Breakfast was more than good.I can only recommend this hostel.The operators also give you tips for things to do in the whole region.

If you love modern minimalistic yet friendly funktionality with good UX - thats the place for you! One and only disadvantage is that you cant choose the planet of landing - its Earth, Iceland, Akureyri by default - but staff says theyare working on it. You can buy here handmade icelandic sweaters for 18000ISK. Breakfast is diverse and yummy. Kitchen perfectly equiped. Huge fridge. Capsules have screens with chromecast (!!(its better to have your own perfectly chosen headphones to fully enjoy Netflix, and sometimes screen needs a hard reboot). Because capsules are close to ech other you should stay quiet while you sleep - dont scream when you have a nightmare about not seeing aurora. We have seen one! On the other side of penisula are good spots for aurora hunting. Peace! 💙

Place is realy clean, it offers breakfast and access to large and well equiped kichens. Sleeping in capsules is interesting experience. Owners are very helpfull and friendly, they know a lot about the area:I definitely recomend it:)

Accommodation that I like the most from the whole trip around Iceland. The capsules make an amazing impression, they have color and light regulation, a TV with chromecast, a pair of headphones. Comfortable and easy to sleep. There is Billard and a kitchen available. The wonderful hostess explained everything to us, shared tips on sightseeing, thanks to which we saw, e.g. a botanical garden and a cow cafe. Price one of the lowest in Akkureyri.

What a great place to stay in Akureyri! My wife and I made a last minute booking here and wish all hotels/hostels were this great. First, the family that runs it were very friendly and helpful, even taking the time to tell us about growing up in Iceland. Next, the space pod rooms were awesome. So cozy, so cool, so unique! We want one in our city! Breakfast was great as well. An amazing value in an expensive country.

This place is amazing. The capsules are like a hotel room. All you need is provided. The staff is very friendly and helpful. In winter time its less crowdy of course and I would recommend going here in winter and summer because the place is great anytime. The breakfast was not like many hotels simple. Everything you need was on the table.At Hafnarstraeti hostel you get 5 star service for a budget price. The location is in the middle of the center with many restaurants, bus station hof, whale watching etc. Ok one little thing for a supermarket you have some more walking to do but still close enough in my opinion. We could request Bonus to move to the center 😉 but so far could not find a request form for that. Anyway. No doubt about I will be back at this place again. We had such a good time at this hostel. It was hands down one of the cleanest hostels we have ever stayed at. The capsules are pretty comfortable, big common room, well equipped kitchen and nice staff. It’s located in the city center and parking can be found easily around the place.

Above and beyond help from reception, great area, clean pods, and fun environment. Friendly people all throughout, I just wish the piano was tuned and they had a few more board games!

Not what you expect when booking a "double room" via Expedia. Interesting experience for once, very clean, very nice staff but would only do the capsules again if there was really no other option.

Clean. Quiet. Well built amenities. Nice and accommodating staff. We found the entrance a bit hard to figure, being at the back of a mall-type location, however this is mostly due to our own mistakes.The capsules themselves are nice too. They are not built for sound insulation, as much as privacy, but given the general quietness, its not a problem at all.Im a heavyset, 6+ feet person, but everything felt sturdy, and not cramped at all. Getting in and out of the top capsule wasnt complicated neither. My travel companion was sleeping below me, and told me there was no shaking or moving occuring when I was shifting.

We got to hang out with the owner, who is a really good guy. He can tell you all about Iceland. The pods are spacious and clean. Every staff member we met was funny and great to talk to. If youre in town, come here to check out the sleeping pods!

Simply the best hostel Ive ever started in. Private beds, TVs in each pod, great breakfast, location and staff. Was also my cheesiest night in Iceland. 11/10 rating. Owner is a man utd supporter so even better.

Supercool capsule hostel, where you can get the capsule bed for 2. It’s very inexpensive, clean and the beds are such a great experience. You feel like on a spaceship when you’re in the capsule. But when you leave it, everything changes. Everything is cozy, like at home. There’s a huge living room with sofas and games. And dining room with terrace. In the kitchen you’ll find everything you need and more. Bathrooms are superclean. And the breakfast! It’s a big buffet with lots of great options to choose from. But I think the biggest treasure of this place is staff. The owner is such a lovely lady, and Polish girls who wor there are extremely helpful. The whole experience is just fantastic!

Family of four (children 4yo and 7mo), we stayed for 3 nights and everything about this exceeded our expectations.The pods are more spacious than we expected, we rented two double since the price is excellent but after having tried it Id say we could have stayed in one. But I think we will do it again like this next time, or have a double and a single because it is soooo nice to just close the pod and get some rest.Having Chromecast made it easy to entertain the 4yo when the 7mo needed more attention, and since theres no sound from the TV itself but only from headphones you plug in it didnt disturb the 7mo.The breakfast is superb (and included, which is niceand you also have full acces to well equipped kitchen and a huge fridge to store your goods.Theres nice balcony to sit out on, they have a very cozy "living room" with sofas and board games and a small pool table. Everything is just so cozy and nice.I was really satisfied with how clean everything is and love that there are many full bathrooms, and the showers are good.It is right at the town center, and still you are not at all bothered by the night-life, which surprised me.The staff is the nicest - definitely staying here again.

This place... I stayed one night there in August after camping during two weeks.The couple who run the hostel (I am sorry because I cant remember the namesare super lovely!!!!!!!They helped me with some stuff I had to do at night and shared lot of time with me and other guests. It was awesome and I will be back.I wish you all the best :)

An amazing experience ! The personal is very helpful, the breakfast was delicious, the "rooms" were very confortable (but noisy if you have loudly neighbor). The showers where all news when I came and so very clean.

Such a cool hostel. They have you sleep in these ?Taiwanese? Capsules. My only complaint about this place is the capsules are advertised as sound proof but they are not really sound proof. Other than that VERY good kitchen and great breakfast. There is a lounge area with pool table. Many private showers and baths so no wait times. Free laundry (this saved my travelling around the ringroad butt. Very nice staff. Extremely central location so you can literraly walk down the stairs into the main street.

Very cheap for what you are getting. A good night rest with enough space and no other people who might bother you (like in other hostels). Next to this you have private showers and a free breakfast. The only minus poiny might be that the included TV in the capsules only has Asian content.
