Awesome set meal. Always prefer bento set for my case. Some of my friends had omakase set. And other set meals too.

Having a nice quick lunch at Hachi. Excellent service and good quality of food. We ordered set lunch and the portion were just nice. Personally like their black sesame ice cream so much. Very creamy and full of sesame flavour with slightly salty sea salt on top.

Tried both omakase lunch and dinner; like a mini kaiseki course. Do not come expecting sashimi or sushi focused course, per named restaurant. Mediocre dining experience; no wow factor nor exceptional factor. No difference whether you are seated at counter or table, as chefs manning their station busy churning out orders. Perhaps was expecting too much.

Outstanding Omakase lunch. Ingredients were so fresh and creative presentation, like a piece of art. Most important, it was delicious. Service was also very attentive and friendly. Highly recommended. Must have reservations because its always fully booked.

Definitely would be able to find somewhere better for Omakase. Had tummy ache right after the meal as shared in other reviews. Suspect could be the oysters that were being left out at the counter for awhile before it’s being served :/ service was tardy as well. Reconsider before going!!!

The restaurant is located in the Supremes Court wing so don’t end up roaming the City Hall wing looking for the place, which is tucked in a corner and may be easy to miss.We had the less pricey of the 2 omakase sets (8 courses vs. 9but we were extremely satisfied with both the quantity and quality. Do book a place at the chef’s table and watch how each dish is prepared (whether it’s yours or not doesn’t matter as it’s still a wonderful experience and you may just learn about what you’re missing out), unless conversation with your fellow diners are more important. What I also really liked was the fact that everyone was having their conversations at a discreet volume as I’ve been to other pricey Japanese joints where many patrons are just blasting their chit chat like an air raid siren. This and the soft jazz music playing in the background made for a really enjoyable evening. The Japanese chefs weren’t very chatty but the local chefs were more than happy to engage, and we be were much more enlightened about the food being served that evening. As for the food, we were most pleased with the sushi, the A5 Omi wagyu and the monk fish liver. The Irish oysters whilst huge were let down by the ponzu jelly which was too much and overpowered the taste of the fresh shellfish. The establishment rounded off the dinner with a fantastic strawberry parfait and as we were walking out the door they even presented us with little red bean buns that were toasty hot and crispy on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside, to eat as we left. I was just imagining how wonderful it would have been if this entire setting took place on a cold winter evening in Hokkaido! The Impeccable food and service here will definitely make it so much easier for me to return for their Spring menu in a few months.

I thought it was cheap, but the plates were quite small, which actually turned out to be good because my salad was spicy (I asked previously and they assured me it wasnt). Despite several mints I still cant get rid of that awful taste.

First visit here and absolutely love it for the food and ambience. We took the counter seats but were still able to enjoy privacy during dining. Ordered the 6 course omakase lunch and was served with a mini birthday cake together with a music box that is winded to the song of Happy Birthday. Staff were nice too. I would definitely like to return again. 👍

One of the premium Japanese food place to visit. However, the ambience is rather too quite to my liking. Very good service and all food presented on a beautiful decorated plate. We have surprises from the restaurant to prepare our anniversary with a special music box and special made dessert! Love the thoughtfulness.. However, I felt the sashimi and sushi lack of umm factor ! The Aging of the fish or the sauce applied? Anyway, a great place to spend time with loved ones to celebrate special occasions.

I would like to give this restaurant 4-4.5 stars. We came here for dinner on a weekday. The ambiance is perfect. No interaction with chef - a bit weird? , waitress - one waitress knew her stuff very well especially sake and even gave us a tour of their sake cellar. Very informative and nice service. The other waitress, a local, didnt know her dishes nor her sake very well. It was obvious she memorised everything what to say, but her knowledge didnt go beyond this (she was a bit nervous reciting what to say as well?). Also it felt like to was a poetry receital then any enthusiasm or seriousness into the story of the dish and sake. This place falls short on several things:for the price you should not be serving:1eggplant and tomato - as juicy and lovely as there were. One whole dish of the 9 dishes was just 4 eggplant cubes with 4 tomato slices. Granted the tomato tasted wonderful - but i think its a bit cheap to put this as one of the dishes to serve as omakase especially for dinner. Both of which you can buy at medi-ya.2soba noodles with fish/shrimp tempura - this is just a joke - i can get this at genki sushi! no matter how incredible the soba noodle is woven by a virgin etc (jokingit also should not be in as one of the nine dishes served. The fish/shrimp tempura was nothing impressive, Felt like it was more of a stomache filler than anything else.3sashimi slices - regular fish sashimi like amberjack , this is not very omakase-like given the price you are paying. Even if the fish came from thailand - so what? Its a regular fish that came from thailand... nothing interesting nor special about this. No special / exotic sashimi was served.aside from this the remaining dishes were wonderfully done and presented. The effort of the chef for the other dishes was incredible, especially the detail. The dessert was not the best . Mostly jelly in various forms. The taste was not that pleasant. The ice cream was nice but no "wow" factor. Defintaely something the restaurant can improve on.We had the omakase paired with sake. The 1st sake by tamanohikari was the best, light , sweete, smooth unique - the remaing 3 sakes were nothing special. However I do give credit for the waitress for spedning the time telling us the story behind each sake regardless of the taste.overall i would come here again. based on other reviews probably weekday dinner time is best to come as not many patrons and the staff - waiters/chef can focus on you more. Also make sure you tell the waitress before you start what foods / ingredients you dont want.if the menu remains the same - lunch would be a much better deal.also keep in mind their omakase only changes seasonally which is a bit unforunate which means you would only really come here 4 times a year max. Room for improvement but definately heading in the right direction.keep up the good work team!

Update: Would have been 4 stars if not for the tummy ache both me and my partner got shortly after dinner service.Ambience was great and the service from the waitresses was excellent. I barely had any interaction with the chef which is a first for omakase..The food was fresh and delicious. Oysters at 16 supplement is a must have too! I liked the selection of sake and the detailed explanation from the waitress.Expect to pay 200ish per pax for dinner before alcohol/supplements.

Noticed some of the negative reviews came after getting less than expected response from staff pertaining to dish change, dish served, etc. Many still don’t understand the concept of Omakase dining. If you have dietary restrictions, share with the restaurant when making the reservation or prior to the visit, I’m sure they will accommodate. If you have many dietary preferences, do not visit an Omakase restaurant. Dining at a regular restaurant and ordering off an a la carte menu perhaps would be better. And looking at other tables and comparing what is being served to others at an Omakase restaurant is not ideal. The best way to enjoy an Omakase experience is not to expect dishes that will be being served.

Discovered this Japanese restaurant at random and decided to give it a shot. Had the Omakase set and it was delightful. Every seafood dish served was fresh and delicious. The highlight for me was the wagyu beef cubes later on that evening that was perfectly cooked and melts in your mouth. Wished the serving was bigger but nonetheless a very satisfying meal overall.

My first visit. I have always thought that omakase is expensive and that restaurants in National Gallery will charge very high because of the high rental cost. But this was surprisingly good value for money at $135 per pax. Only two omakase sets on the menu.Service was wonderful too. The staff explained every dish they served.

It was my first experience of omakase, and it was quite good. Service was wonderful, servers explained each item in detail, food was fresh and flavourful. Quantity did not seem like a lot but we were satisfied and definitely full at the end of the meal. The wagyu was delicious, I would recommend ordering the wagyu omakase with the sake pairing.

All in, a good place for a set Japanese lunch or dinner. Went for the Wagyu Omakase menu, which swapped out some of the fish dishes for beef. Enjoyed specifically the Wagyu cubes with sweet potatoes, the scallop starter and the Wagyu and mushroom with sous vide egg. The dessert not really my thing (lemon jelly with a side I wasnt sure of). Considering the price ($130 eachand in all 9 dishes, a good selection. Would try the normal fish dishes next time.

Food is actually not bad, but the service is extremely slow. The whole dinner felt like waiting, waiting and waiting... Whether they are short handed or this is normal service standard, it didnt feel right. 9 course meal could not be served within 2 hours, and no amount of sake can make it feel faster. We actually decided to cancel the remaining dishes because it was just really too late. Not sure they got why we were so agitated with the service, but I doubt we would go back... ...

celebrated a birthday here in Dec-20 and had the most lovely time. first the ambience of National Gallery was lovely, and the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated as well.food was lovely, and well worth the $307/ for 2 during lunch. most appreciated that there was two courses - a sashimi course and a beer course; catering to different preferences.

Had the wagyu omakase set lunch. The monkfish liver was interesting. The wagyu sukiyaki was very good as was the quality of the sashimi. The trio of roasted wagyu (truffle, sea urchin & caviar, yuzuis one of the best Japanese meat dishes I have had in awhile. The cold udon with egg yolk/zucchini was a pleasant surprise as I am not usually a fan but finished it all anyways. Overall a great meal and will definitely return to try a different menu as it changes through the seasons in Japan.

Went there for lunch and I chose the wagyu set while some of my family took the sashimi set. Dish presentation was v exquisite and appealing, like a piece of fine art. Service was good with detailed explanations on the dish and how best to eat it.Im pleased with my wagyu set, overall good grade, v tender. As for the sashimi set, I felt while the sashimi was good but nothing special about it, esp its tuna which was quite ordinary. Ive had really good tuna sashimi before so I was expecting something better at this price range.I was pleasantly surprised at how full i felt at the end of lunch. Overall, alls good but the sashimi grade can be improved.

1. Decor was good. Nice traditional environment.2. Food was too pricey for quality. wagyu beef and cod fish were good. Seasonal sashimi was typical where you can get from literally any other decent omakase restaurant for cheaper price.3. Service was average for such a restaurant. Seasonal sashimi took close to 40 mins to prepare. When asked, staff says it takes time to cut the fish and decorate the plate and hence customer should arrive earlier which is nonsense. if you cannot handle the full house, dont take so many tables.

Lovely 8 course lunch at Hachi Restaurant at the National Gallery.Started the meal with a beautiful scallop lightly deep fried. Succulent and crispy.Next course is a large briny oyster.Third course is a chawanmushi with snow crab. Lovely fluffy eggs and creamy rich snow crab in its roe.Fourth is the sashimi course. Great cuts of tuna and hamachi.Fifth is the beef course with a basil salt. Decadently tender and fatty.Sixth course is a trio of nigiriThe last savory course is a fantastic cold soba with crispy sakura prawns, mountain yam and a punchy citrusy sauce. Really great dish.We ended with a minimalist dessert of house made lemon jello thingy and Japanese beans..kinda weird.

Hachi group never disappoints, ever. Yet another wonderful dining experience at Hachi, both my partner and I had such a great time and the entire omakase were full of surprising flavours and textures that keep our palate craves for more.To start, we were offered an off-menu item, which is raw chilled Nasu(eggplantwith extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and konbu tororo. A perfect way to start an 8-course omakase menu, so light and refreshing, and it was a first, having an eggplant prepared this way, but will definitely not be our last, it is so simple yet the taste is so amazing.Zensai - Marinated spotted prawn on chilled corn veloutéSweet and crunchy spotted prawns contrasting the silky and creamy corn velouté with pops of flavours from the rest of the components. Feels like a dream on the palate.Uni - ‘Isobe-age’ of uni sea urchin wrapped in nori seaweed & shiso leaf on edamame puree & hoshi-kaibashira dried scallop sauce.Umami at its PEAK! Warm buttery smooth uni with the taste of the ocean, and the crunch from the nori with a super light tempura batter. We wish we could have an entire tray of these for the night.🤩Hirame - Hirame flounder with ankimo monkfish liver.Great pairing of a very clean yet distinct flavour of hirame and the rich monkfish liver, with the freshness of the salad to cut through the entire dish. Flavours explosion in our mouth with every single bite.Kani Shinjo - Kani fresh crab dumpling made from zuwaigani snow crab & hotate king scallop, junsai water shield & aodatsu. One of my all time favourite at Hachi. Chopsticks tender crab dumpling is all I need to say. Snow crab and king scallop never tasted so good as a dumpling. The only sad thing here is, there is only ONE dumpling in this amazing bowl of goodness! 😂Sashimi - Kanpachi, Maguro and Madai.Every dish is like an exquisite art piece, especially our chefs selection of sashimi. Sashimi at Hachi brings raw fish to the next level, each sashimi is carefully selected by the chef, each has its distinct flavours and texture, complimenting each other rather than fighting for our attention. The chef even showed us a unique way of eating the sashimi rather than the usual, with just wasabi and soy sauce. I shall not spoil the surprise for you, make sure you ask the chef about this!Yakimono-Charcoal grilled A5 wagyu beef with yama wasabi & red wine salt.-Truffle scented misozuke gindara cod fish.Perfectly crusted wagyu cubes, grilled to perfections. Ever so tender and packed full of flavours. No doubt the wagyu is super amazing, but the entire plates is also filled with tiny burst of surprises that you can have with the wagyu, that made you realised with the right combinations, it actually elevated the taste of the wagyu to a realm that is so new to us. A very thoughtful way of letting guest experiment with flavours on their own. Love it. 😍As my partner doesnt take beef, she had the alternative option which is the Truffle Miso Cod, charcoal grilled to perfect nonetheless. Truth be told, although the cod is really really good as well, but I am still biased and will take the wagyu all day, everyday.😝Sushi - Uni, Chutoro, Shiroebi and Tamago.Sushi at Hachi just tasted so much better compared to other sushi we have had, apart from the super fresh ingredients from the ocean, we find that the rice had an indescribable taste that tingles with our taste buds, which also pairs . We did not manage to extract any info from the chefs, but you might want to try and see if you have better luck than us. 😅Dessert - Homemade amazake ice cream with ishikawa ‘ice kakeru’ shoyu syrup, roasted pistachio.Sweet sake ice cream! Super creamy with bits of roasted pistachio and to top all that goodness, SHOYU Syrup! Yes, Shoyu syrup! Say your goodbyes to salted caramel. It may sounds weird but just try it, and you are welcome!😁Cant wait to be back again.

Still the best omakase I had. Service impeccable. Thank you for holding the table and explaining every dish with such professionalism.Dishes are delicately created. Favorites are the foie gras chawanmushi in balsamic vinegar, and wagyu beef cubes that simply melts away in mouth. Not many places can managed to prepare wagyu beef this way. Wagyu beef sushi with uni and caviar is so pampering. Thank you Chef.

If you need a place for a business lunch, this is worth considering. The menu isn’t extensive, but there is enough diversity (both as to price and contentto ensure that both you and your guests will find something suitable. Service is discreet and the location (in the National Galleryshould give you a conversational starting-point. I had the bento and it was substantial, well-presented and with a delicious mix of items. It is beyond my price-point to eat here regularly, but on the rare occasion that I do, I know I won’t regret it.

Had a client lunch here recently. Gotta say this place is nice! Excellent for business lunches and of course the Japanese food is very tasty. The tableware actually is really nice, it was a real stand out.Table service was ok, they were attentive enough but could have provided a bit detail on what they were serving. Fine dinning of Japanese cuisine. The ingrediance are fresh from Japan. We order set meal. Each dish was very well design, and the waiter will explain every ingredients and where it from. The dinning experience was very pleasent. As it situated in the historical building where formally was Supreme Court and now National Gallery, it gave the dinning an solemn and spiritual feel.

Conveniently located at the National Gallery; good for business lunches. The lunch menu is small but very serviceable - it ranges from Omakase to bento sets with chirashi don and udon. Outstanding Japanese cuisine done with fresh ingredients of the season. For example the red wine salt for the beef is hand carried by the chef from Japan and the Yamamomo used for dessert is only available 2 weeks in a year. Food prepared with passion and finesse. Very good attentive service and very knowledgeable service staff. Pleasant decor with comfortable furniture settings and tastefully decorated with Japanese antiques.

Hachi is a very good Japanese and Omakase address in Singapore. I highly recommend the 9 courses lunch. Good value for money.
