One-time seat of famous dynasty, with 2 preserved towers, a small history exhibition & a restaurant.
Habsburg Castle in Glarus
Description
The restaurant had a very friendly staff, the experience was great!
Glorious little castle worth a visit, especially on a clear day in Fall when one has a sweeping view towards the Bernese Alps as well as the Alps of Innerschweiz. The on site restaurant serves hearty fare at reasonable prices. Check opening hours as they change seasonally. Overall, worth a detour.
MoreThough it’s not the castle in my imagination, I was really excited when I visited it. The castle is located in the one and only place named Habsburg! Several rooms are used as restaurant dining rooms now. One can go into the castle tour via the entrance on the first floor. There aren’t much to see in the castle, but the views are stunning!
MoreVery nice view with picnic infrastructure
Amazing views and delicious foods. Lots of lovely venue rooms that you can rent. The castle is stunning. Its pricey though. Definitely recommended!
MoreRather small castle and not much to do.
Very well organized audio tour. Must visit for everyone interested in history.
Not the biggest castle, but nicely organized in French, English and German. Visit is free of charge but only during opening time of the restaurant.
MoreVery nice Old Castle Museum & Restaurant with Exclusive Alpine sceneries around.
The restaurant is embedded in the medieval castle. This gives a very particular atmosphere to your dinnerThe food is excellent and the service is very good.
MoreNice castle, nice personnel, great food, great view.
Lovely views and a chance to climb up to the small castle.
Nice place, I enjoyed beer and French fries with a nice view from restaurant
Most of the rooms are belonging to the restaurant. Therefore there is not that much to see for public visitors. Interesting movies about the history of the Habsburger.
MoreIts really just a restaurant. Didnt get chance to eat here just a quick look around the ruins.
MoreSmall castle with nice view
The museum is small but interesting, so before going to the restaurant its great to have a look around! The food was also very nice
MoreIts a great place.
Unless you are going for the restaurant onsite it is not worth a visit. The so called museum has very little in it
MoreNot too much to see, but its free, and a small exhibition is available. Also, the views are fine (if theres no fog).
MoreFascinating history! An empire was born in this rural corner of what is now Switzerland. Most of the castle that is not in ruin is now managed as a restaurant. Food and service is quite good.
MoreLittle museum with a very nice view. The visit of the birth of the Hasbsburg dinasty is free, which is cool
MoreWe came around 10am. The place is peaceful, self guided tour and had coffee and chocolate. Just relaxing while enjoying the view and the chirping of birds.
MoreWe were driving around and we came here more often accident because I knew this place. The castle and the surroundings are up on a hill and its beautiful. Part of the castle is now a museum and there is a small restaurant. we didnt have time to eat but we ordered a Prosecco. The service was very friendly and the restaurant was half full. The prices seem to be average a little bit higher. Everything served looked really good from what I could see from a distance. I also ordered a portion of ice cream. Its a ride quickly and it was exactly as I expected. The chocolate was heated as it should be. I will come back and I do recommend this to other people.
MoreNice historical place where we celebrated a very nice wedding of friends in the Rittersaal!
MoreThe castle is nice....but I wasnt served in the restaurant at 11am. Just wanted to have some coffee and enjoy the view but nobody cared to take my order, so I left.
MoreGreat place, lovely views from the top of the hill and tower.
Nice place, but unfortunately it was closed during our visit at winter time (until end of March)
MoreSmall castle with nice views. You can play audio recordings that explain the story of the castle in a family friendly way. I couldnt go into the castle because the restaurant was closed.
MoreOnly 4 as it was closed for a winter break. We still managed to have s packed there and the scenery was great.
MoreBeautiful location atop a hill overlooking the countryside. Its magical to think about the Hapsburgs occupying these grounds before they went on to become the powerful house we now know well. Much of the really old site is only ruins but there is still a main building that gives one a sense of the old times. Information booths around the site help tell the story of this castle and the Habsburg family.
MoreSmall sized castle with historical importance. There is an inner garden and a watch tower that you can visit both a free to entry. A restaurant toilet facilities available. The walk uphill to the castel from the nearest bus halt takes about 10 mins.
MoreNice casual visit and walk with the kids. Small cafe with some decent options. Caslte is not very big but its pretty.
MoreSuch a great place to be...People are nice, food was great. So refreshing.
Small castles tend not to offer very much but given the size the Habsburg Castle has quite a bit to offer. The exhibition is insightful and the panoramic view of the surrounding area is breathtaking
MoreA small, nice Restaurant with a small choice of food The Food is Realy good an the Museum pretty, in 3 languages.
MoreThis is one of the first official residence of the Habsburgs. It is well worth the visit if you are interested in history and specially in the history of the Habsburgs. It helps understand how the Habsburg became the most successful dynasty of rulers and monarchs spanding close to 1000 years and ending with the first world war. From the castle, which is originally relatively big, you have nice views around.
MoreThis marvelous castle has a rich history and an even greater restaurant! You can expect great views and educational guides in German, English, French and Italian. The restaurant has a very friendly and welcoming staff. My father and I had the pea soup and ham-wrapped zanderfilet. Our meal was absolutely outstanding! It is a great place for researchers and sightseers alike.
MoreNice for a walk. Good brunch on Sundays
Ritterspies was amazing, but would be enough to share for two people. Nice castle, very inzeresting
MoreBeautiful landscape around the castle.Be aware that restaurant is close part of the year. It worth a visit
MoreLovely surrounding and just perfect for a visit, one warning the ice cream dessert is dangerously tasty
MoreGreat views over the valley. With a nice restaurant where to take a drink. Parking available. Free entrance.
MoreBeautiful old castle with breathtaking views of Switzerlands alps and a good local restaurant
MoreWell preserved historical Castle. Around the building there is a beautiful view and a good restaurant
MoreBeautiful view from the castle, which has a very well conserved part and another part in ruins. Its free entrance to visit and you can enjoy audio recordings that explain the history of the castle. There is also a nice restaurant and several rooms that can be rented for events.Well worth the visit.
MoreAnyone interested in history will find a visit here fascinating. Beautiful location and view. Good restaurant too.
MoreVery well maintained, nice place in a wonderful panoramic position.
A nice and quiet place to be! Good restaurant and kind staff!
The walk from brugg isnt too strenuous, but there is a bus that runs most of the way to the castle from the train station. There isnt much left of the castle itself, but was is there is well preserved, and its free to walk around in it. The restaurant has a very limited menu with typical Swiss prices, but I didnt eat there. The views from the castle of the surrounding valleys are beautiful.
