Came here for a pre theatre meal having checked it was on in advance, only to be told after being seated that it wasnt on over Christmas. Strike one. Starters arrived - the seafood soup was very tasty, as was the chilli squid - although the chillies were really fiery and the squid was a bit dry. Other that a spritz of lime there was no sauce or anything moist to dip in. Could have done with an aioli or lemon mayo on the side. Main courses, prawn burger was very tasty but chips were over-salted. No need to salt the chips when there is salt on the table, as there is no way back from oversalination. My partner found the cod very bland alas.Desserts, the apple pie and the marmalade sponges were both very tasty, but for both the custard could have been warmer.Ambience was decent, interesting decor that certainly draws the eye, especially a large Jackson Pollack style canvas on the far wall. Coatroom service was also a positive.Overall, not the worst experience but not the best either.

I enjoyed this restaurant but prefer the Farringdon branch due to its slightly more relaxed atmosphere! Having said that, the food and service were excellent - the waiters were really accommodating for my wife and two children. Would recommend the shrimp burger.

Food was good, tasted great, was a small portion for a high price. The staff were friendly and the bar and the restaurant are gorgeous. Lovely artwork and designer furniture with fantastic wine. The only drawback was that it was empty and expensive. I went home after the theater feeling hungry and had to buy a takeaway.

Very nice menu, we had fish (fish of the day,Gurnardand seafood. All very delicious and very well prepared. We enjoyed the focus on local British ingredients, and they even had Somerset cider brandy which was a new to me.

I dining in this restaurant with friends. The restaurant have a very beautiful and interesting decor. The food its good and the service was just okay, the waiter was friendly and give some suggestions on the beginning. But was something that I didnt accept at all; a the end of our dining experience, I notice something on the floor, 3 mice just running around the restaurant, its London and all we know its full of mice... but when I called the waiter to show him, he told me that the day before they did a disinfestation because there were so many, Perfect, and after he told me "Dont looking at them but look at the table."This is just unacceptable. After this we paid and we left.

Delicious steak, lovely service. We came in after a show and they sat us even though they were soon closing. Excellent meal and great service from the staff. The hostess was lovely too, we’ll definitely come back!

Hmmmmmm. Wanted this to be good. But poor service. - felt like an inconvenience to them. Food - brunch - was decidedly average, small portions and not worth the price. Bar downstairs looked good - but it was 11am!!

Stumbled upon this place and the hostess was able to quickly make a room for my team where every place we first went to told us an hour or more. She made it happen. Plus...the FOOD is amazing. Visiting from California so I was glad to find such a great place.

Excellent meal that can start with a variety of fresh sea food and follow buy an excellent porterhouse and end by a delicious ice cream. All plates that I tried were perfectly cooked and presented. Wide selection of wines and alcoholic drinks as well as their own oyster beer (not bad). Friendly and professional service. So if you are searching for an excellent meal in London Hix Soho would be one of the best. Reservations are required 😉

Went here for drinks on Fri night and randomly ordered the healthy buckwheat anti-inflammatory cocktail on the menu. Pretty silly of me on reflection, the waiter noticed my pain and offered to replace it for a straight double rye without question. Great service, really nice bar and most important for me - plush comfortable seating. Will definitely be back.

The brilliant flagship Soho establishment from Mark Hix lives up to its reputation - a well balanced menu for both seafood and meat lovers, the oysters and dressed crab being particular highlights. Would like to see a broader selection of steaks, and the wine was decent. Recommend for an evening with friends, decent atmosphere.

Overpriced and under par. My steak was too tough to cut, much less chew. The replacement was only marginally better. The staff were lovely though, couldnt knock the decor or the service. Just a shame the food wasnt up to much.

Always great experience. Friendly bartenders and surprisingly down to earth prices. But you don’t go there for the smiles and prices, you go there for an education in mixology. The bartenders are creative and more than eager to explain to you the intricacies of the cocktails or whatever new whisky or gin they have on offer. Go there for there to truly enjoy a special cocktail and hear someone who is passionate about making it. Stay for the music and New York speakeasy atmosphere.

Spacious restaurant in the heart of Soho. Bookings requiered. Its family friendly with different menus for kids, adults and vegetarians. Food wise, its pretty good, dishes well presented and tasty. Cost wise its in the middle up side. Overall recommend big you havent tried it. They also have a bar and cocktail bar in the basement so should be a good option to have a drink or two when going out.

My starter was OK, main was good, dessert was OK. I had two cocktails, neither of which I liked. The first was just prosecco with some faint cherry notes and the second, a daiquiri, tasted like lime juice. I spent almost 60 pounds and nothing really stood out.

The service was dreadful. We were seated and then the light above our table was dimmed making it the darkest bar Ive been to, the other tables were using their phone torches to read the menus. After my partner had given the waiter her drink order, I evidently took too long (as I couldnt see!as the waiter walked off and didnt return for 15 minutes. He delivered our drinks most of which had run down the stem onto the table and at the same told us "thats your last drink" which he said to the other tables also. I understand they have to close but the way in which it was emphatically directed to the customers is unacceptable when paying that that price.Over £27 for two cocktails due to the 12.5% service charge added on, the cocktails were fine.Service costs little and getting it wrong is unforgivable no matter how much you are charged. There are many alternatives in Soho so you wold think they would make some effort.

We went for a pre theatre meal and couldnt have been more delighted. The fixed price menu was not extensive, but had something for everyone and the food was first rate. The main menu looked good too, and we will definitely be looking to go there for a longer meal next time we are in London. Well worth a visit

Great atmosphere and service. The starters are excellent, specially the oysters and the scallops. You can get picanha for main, such is a delicious cut for steak. Desserts are not their thing I’m afraid, had the apple dumplings and the pavlova, and they were not very good. The bar downstairs is pretty cool and trendy, quite selective, totally worth trying their cocktails.

Really enjoyed it here but Im kind of a Hix fan. The menu is pretty similar to other Hix joints but the location means it has a bit more of a bustling vibe on the weekend. We paid around 100 including service for two courses each with wine and beers. The beef I got was amazing, perfectly seasoned and cooked. It comes with some very cute little sauce dishes, but honestly, you dont need them.

Hip cocktail bar downstairs, chic dining upstairs. The menu is very strong on seafood and game with fresh, simple, delicious preparations. We enjoyed the sole and venison. Purple flowering broccoli was rather normal broccoli but happily not cooked to mush-- crisp and buttery and delicious. Fantastic service and convenient cloak room-- no wait!

It was Burns Night and HIX prepared a Scottish menu. The Cullen skink (soup with smoked haddockwas actually very nice. The portion of haggis was small. To give you an idea of the amount of haggis served, it was about half of the portion you would get of black pudding in a full English breakfast. For main we got the deer. This time the portion was not small it was tiny! Nice flavour though. Without exaggeration I finished the deer in 4 bites. The dish was appetiser size at the price of a pretentious main. Another person in our table ordered mussels. She could not eat more than 5. They were disgusting. Extremely salty. The sauce only tasted of melted butter with salt.Nobody at any time during service came to the table to ask how was the food or if we needed anything. Once we finished eating nobody came to clear the table. I had to let the waiter know that we wanted the plates to be cleared.I will not go back and will not recommend the place.

On arriving I was greeted by very nice servers who recommended I try the downstairs bar, I duly obliged with the whole quirkiness and trendiness of it all taking me by surprise (positively). On having my food order, the pre theatre menu was very competitive for Soho. All courses were sensational, particularly the chicken leg which was literally a whole leg, feet and all! Great service all round and I will definitely return.

Very poor experience. The food; No.2 Colchester oysters - fresh but tiny. Atlantic Prawns in the shell - they werent Atlantic prawns but freshwater prawns. Too big, not rosy enough, shells too soft and no sweetness/saltiness in the taste. Questioned this with the manager to be told the chef and Mark say they are. Sirloin steaks - nice flavour but cut far too thin (1cmto be cooked correctly. Not a £27 piece of meat. Sides - fries, kale and carrots all perfectly acceptable. Wine - our choice was good value at £35 a bottle. The service; waiters seemed nervous and not educated about the wine list or menu. Plates were still on table when the subsequent course was served. Steaks were not cooked as requested (3 of 5 ordered). An offer of replacement was made but as everybody knows, when dining in a group you want to dine in a group, not after most of the others have finished because the kitchen is on its second attempt. The result; the manager reduced the bill and was very patient but £190 for six people for what was at best a pub standard meal (and being mi-sold Atlantic prawnsis not a good experience.

We had a lunch for 20 people in Marks Bar downstairs, last Saturday. The room was warm and welcoming, with loads of room for our unruly children to run around and play. We had the Autumn Feast set menu because of the size of our party. All three courses were delicious, and there was a huge amount of food.Service was attentive, friendly and very patient.....Bloody Marys were excellent!!Need an excuse to go back ASAP.

Not overwhelmed by the service or the food. We were in the private dinning room - 8 of us - and it took nearly hour for our main courses to arrive having only had some ‘snax’ beforehand, no starters. The food was ok, if average, and I was expecting more.

This is second Hix restaurant I have been to and I can say that they were both excellent!I went for pre theatre menu at a very reasonable price of £23. This included beautifully tender pieces of squid for the starter and perfectly cooked monkfish for the main course. What was the star of the show for me was the pudding, gooseberry pie with elderflower ice cream. Although the ice cream was one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth I still find nostalgic elements to the dishes served. The pastry on the pie was exactly like my grandmothers, I had discovered this before at the Tramshed where I had some minced pies that tasted like she had cooked them that day. The stuffing in the whole roast chicken reminds me of picking herbs in the garden for her as a child.

Heard great things about this place so I checked this out with two girlfriends, and the setting was indeed lovely... great decor! The cocktail list is varied and inventive, but they werent strong enough so we felt a bit ripped off. And the place gets too busy and we were seated on short stools so if youre looking for a place to chill out and relax for a while, this is not the ideal place.

Came for drinks at downstairs bar. Cocktails were nice (but not necessarily the bestwith a good atmosphere. They said on arrival they have restaurant licence only... hence theyd add a charge onto the bill of £2pp for food so we could drink. For this they gave us a cup of popcorn. Poor show from this regard and cheap way to get more money from us without giving much in return.

Havent been here for food yet but is meant to be brilliant. The bar is so atmospheric and has a very pleasing layout. Cocktails are superb and the bar snacks are a fine accompaniment. One Saturday we were waiting 30 minutes to enter the cocktail bar and the waitress gave us glasses of prosecco to ease the wait - totally worked!

We needed to book a table for 5 (including 1 childin the west end following a Saturday matinee performance – a trickier task than it would seem! Hix was the absolute perfect solution – it takes reservations, it has a children’s menu, it offers an incredibly good value set menu for adults. We arrived a little early for our reservation and had a drink in the bar below which was very nice. The restaurant itself is lovely with high ceilings and interesting pieces of art filling the space. The staff were very attentive and could answer all of the questions that we had regarding the food (one member of our party suffers from food allergies). The food was absolutely delicious and I would not have thought that the dishes would be those included on a set menu if I had not known – very impressed Hix!

Having been to Hix Mayfair we had high expectations as the service and food were excellent. Sadly this Hix fell far below. From the start the majority of staff seemed disinterested in their customers and more interested in chatting amongst themselves. The waitress poured wine without looking and spilled it it in around the glass and on the table, then just walked off without tidying it up. When the food came it wasnt very hot. My partner had been a few times before and enjoyed it so maybe we were just unlucky, but if thats the case then they should work on their consistency.

Came here for the Sunday roast menu and drinks in the bar. The bar was good with attentive staff and decent cocktails. However service in the restaurant was not enjoyable. The hostess did not offer to take our coats when we arrived and the waitress taking our food order was straight rude to us. The starter and main courses were ok but both desserts were too sweet for my taste. Would recommend the bar for a drink but the restaurant is not worth it.

Great British Food! My friends and I arrived early so we were ushered to the amazing cocktail bar in the basement. We had mini steak tartare, quail egg shooters, sliced meat board, parsnip chips - what more could we want? It was a wonderful experience from the food & service to the atmosphere.

I used to be a huge fan of the Hix restaurants, but its now become a mini chain and seems to be more about how much cash they can make. Obviously restaurants need to be profitable, but customers also need to be kept happy if theyre to be repeat visitors. The Soho branch has the very cool Marks Bar downstairs, which is worth checking out. The only thing that Id moan about are the service charges on drinks. I dont see why if youre sitting at a bar about two feet from a member of the bar staff, they should be whacking on service charges. That kind of thing hurts when youre already paying over the odds for a bottled beer. The cocktails are great though.Upstairs, the food is quality British cuisine. You probably wont have your mind blown, and you may be miffed at having to pay for side dishes that should already be part of a main course, but the atmosphere and feel of the restaurant are very nice.

The downstairs bar was lovely! We came down on a Thursday night and it was still quite busy. There are comfortable seats and a dj that started at about 1030 and a dancefloor that people were really getting down on! The cocktails are traditional - with a twist... delicious gin and scotch based ones and an extensive wine list! It is table service which was a surprise but a wonderful one as we were up for a relaxing one - recommended and will definitely head back again

Finding this place wasnt the easiest thing; hidden behind a massive wooden door and below ground. But I really liked this place. Possibly my most favourite cocktail bar in London. The cocktail makers were standing in a sunken area so people seated at the bar didnt have to look up (handy). Comfy sofas were plentiful, although we chose a table with a broken chair which I promptly fell through. My cocktail was amazing and I especially liked the story of each in the menu. This is the first place I will recommend when asked for a cocktail bar.

Loved this bar. Somewhat like a sexy poker room inside, with a Penguin Books poster that caught my eye. A lovely mix of seats make choosing a spot a nice experience. The bar staff stood in a sunken space behind the bar and were really attentive. Great ambience and really nice vibe. Most importantly, drinks were great. Mine came in a little carafe in a bowl of ice. I loved it because it was great without trying too hard. None of this painfully overt speakeasy stuff (see their menu for their opinions on that- just a great bar.

This place is a little on the pricey side in terms of drinks, even bearing its mind its central location and the name behind the bar. The cheapest glass of red was £7.50, and, yes, I know one does get what one pays for, but, it is a recession and it’s a bit painful when a glass costs close to double that of other wine bars ten minutes walk away. Also, I’m sure our waiter was trying to be friendly and eager, but he came across rather menacing whenever he asked us whether we were sure we just wanted glasses or if we were certain we didn’t want to set up a bar tab. What are the good things about this bar then? Well, the decor’s nice. Seats are very comfortable and it was quiet enough the night I went for two of us to catch up without having to yell. And the toilets were quite nice.
