Palace originally built in the 17th century by the Joseon dynasty, with an adjacent history museum.
Gyeonghuigung in Seoul
Description
Gyeonghuigung Palace doesnt get nearly as much notariety as the other palaces, which is a shame because of all the history this place has to offer. This was the main royal palace for centuries, and although most of the palace was destroyed by the Japanese (like everything else herein order to make a school, the grounds here have hundreds of years of history.Maybe people skip this palace because there arent many buildings remaining, and the palace grounds are just a small fraction of what they used to be before the Japanese arrived and destroyed it. Thats their loss, because the lack of people here makes this the only one of the palaces where you can escape from the hustle and bustle of Seoul and imagine things the way they were back in the Joseon days.Much of this place was under renovation when I visited (September 2022), but it was still absolutely worth a visit
MoreQuite and calm place to visit on weekdays, especially after lunchtime. No place in Seoul can beat the mood, but removed two stars for poor condition of restoration. After it has been built in 17th century, it used to be a large, magnificent palace, but during Japanese occupation, they destroyed most of the buildings. Also Korean government havent cared about it for decades. Have gone through sad history, but Gyeonghuigung is still waiting on its land, for glowing future days.
Morecalm, tranquil (only on weekdays)
1 of the 5 Palaces from the Joseon Period over 400 years ago.
When it comes to gyeong bok gung, I would say one of the most beautiful palace in Korea. Actually I’ve been there for my assignment, but I can’t take my eyes off it. And if you love BTS, I’m sure that you will really like it. Although I don’t remember exactly which palace in their MV, at least here is the representative of all palaces in Korea. I hope you would enjoy your trip here.
MoreIt is a very serene old small but pretty palace in Seoul. You can see various views depending on the season.
MoreHavent yet fully restored after destruction by Japan, but still worth it to visit not to forget history.
MoreNice place to take a walk when you are full with lunch or think about something.
Very interesting place I appreciated the star plate (Ganpyeonguithat I used to call the constellation to win Silla battle
MoreIts a nice and quite place, there is few people so you can have a relax and peacefull time. Also there you can take good pictures without all the people around as in the another palaces.
MoreThis was a bit smaller palace compare to other palaces but it really still show how beautiful it was. Rich of cuture and it really shows some of the artifacts and how the Koreans live by that time.
MoreNice small palace! (Still under reconstruction)
I went there without planning. This palace is not well known compared to other palaces in seoul. It always amazes me how you can pumped up a historical place in Seoul. Gyeonghuigung is one of the main 5 palaces in Seoul. It is also known as Seogwol, literally meaning West palace. It is very quiet compared to Gyeongbokgung, which I liked so much.
MoreThe area around the palace is under construction. I think thats why the palace is not open to public
MoreFrom all the big palaces in Seoul, this is definitely the most (wrongly sounderappreciated. Despite there not being an entry fee, the palace is fantastically well preserved. You get to see nice artifacts and traditional Korean architecture. The one good point of not having many visitors is the fact that you can get good photos!
MorePeaceful oasis in the middle of hectic busy streets. Always quiet and spiritual.
MoreGreat value and insightful
A bit difficult to find compared to the 4 other palaces but worth it. No fee to visit unlike the other 4 and very few visitors. It is a bit smaller though than the other 4. Has beautiful symmetrical buildings that rise higher as you continue walking.
MoreA must go place at night time for a unique scenic view~
Beautiful and peaceful
If you want quick trip through Korean architecture, go there.
Seems to be the least busiest of the 5 palaces. I literally had the place to myself a few times. Which is great for photos, or just for the peace and quiet. Seems also to be the smallest of the palaces, and the least original (that is, most of it was destroyed and has been rebuilt).
MoreVery beautiful and easy to get to via bus! We had a lovely time being here. We paid a small entrance fee which wasn’t bad at all, but I heard that if you wear a hanbok, you get to enter for free. The buildings are grand and it was fun to see all of the dresses up visitors walk throughout the grounds. This is definitely worth paying a visit!
MoreWe were there in the afternoon, nice weather for the kids just to running around and play at the open space but there was no food store inside if you need you can just go nearby.
MoreA bit of Korean history. And also the spot where Iron Man and Captain Marvel took pics for their Avengers Korean tour. 😊
MoreSmaller area to explore.
Its quiet, barely any visitors!!! A palace practically to yourself
Definitely the most disappointing and underwhelming of the 5 palaces in Seoul. Dont waste your time here unless you have already seen the other 4 and happen to be right outside with time to kill.
MoreNice to work. I love this old palace.
Little bit small but wonderful to take a walk!
We went on a Tuesday morning and nobody was around. By the way, at all palaces there are a few signs translated in Mandarin and English.
MoreKorea is truly fascinating! To see history preserved and present time collide is inspiring! Everyone truly should visit this country!
MoreA nice break from the urban surroundings. A less busy palace than the other larger ones nearby. There is a walking trail that goes around the perimeter of the palace, which is short, but some parts are steep, so you can get some good exercise in. There is a soccer field behind the palace with some pull up bars. There are a few benches where you can sit in the shade. Inside the palace there is an interesting rock formation that occasionally has a stream running down. Occasionally events are held in front of the palace. Ive frequently seen couples having their wedding photos taken around the palace, which I suppose should give you some idea of how scenic it is. There is a nice view of the mountains behind Seoul from in front of the palace.
MoreTraditional palace and modern building
Great place to take a walk and enjoy the restored West Palace.
It was a very meaningful visit this beautiful old palace. I will not explain all the details of its history here. You go there and find out.
MoreIt appeared closed when we arrived. We walked inside from the side. No one around.
MoreBeing one of the small palaces in the downtown of Seoul, its located inside of the Kyongheegung park, of which name is the very palace. Here is also close to Gwanghwamun, and you can spend time in the history of Seoul museum.
MorePark around the palace is a nice and quiet place to walk around, beloved by dog owners from the neighborhood^^. The palace itself was recently restored on site of the original palace, so none of the original buildings are left. Small mountain behind the palace offers a nice view on the vicinity, especially on moonlit nights.
MoreQuiet, Nothing, Sad hisory, recommend for walking after lunch
Smaller than other major palaces in Seoul. Less crowded, too. Free entrance collects office workers nearby during lunchtime.
MoreNice place, very big and with no toilette inside.
Good
경희궁을 꼭 한 번 방문해보세요The palace in Seoul is a good place for recreation. Seoul is often stuffy and boring, but youll feel much better if you visit the palace. When you come to Seoul, you should visit Deoksugung Palace, GyeonghuI Palace, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Changdeok Palace. These palaces will add something special to your memory.
MoreThe palace is smaller than the others, but well preserved and quiet. The entrance is free and you can see a kings portrait and an interesting rock in the palace garden. Something different from the other palaces.
MoreQuiet place to look at the architecture without crowds
A bench place between the main gate and the palace. Good for taking a nap in the afternoon unless there are no homeless peoplec lying on a bench.
MoreQuiet Korean palaces.
Small. In a remote location (relatively speaking). But worth a visit nonetheless
Pretty small and nice palace. Not many other tourist were here so it felt really calm too.A portion of the palace was closed off when I came.Theres a pathway that circles it and you can see the palace from above, thats kinda nice.
