Gusto - Italian restaurant in Lai, Chad
Would not recommend simply coz of guy on front of house. Food great table service great but….guy in front I nearly walked out before even going in. So if that’s what they think of the clientele then there are lots of cheaper more authentic Italian restaurants to choose from. So save you dosh and dine better for less elsewhere. (Seriously)
Great place after a hectic day popped in for a meal the manager found a table even though we wasnt booked in. Food was great we both had a burger and the service was 5 star 🌟
It was my first time eating here, all the team was polite friendly and very professional,Food was lush cooked well, spot on presentation100% recommend definitely be back
Food was great and would give 5 stars but the intial service was appalling. Waited 20 mins just to get someone to bring water to the table. 20 mins in and I had to go up to the counter to ask if anyone was coming to take our order and bring usbsine water! Once I highlighted this to another waiter, he apologised and promptly dealt with our order (sorry I didnt catch your name but he mentioned he only recently started). This was at 2pm and the restaurant was not too busy.I noticed a couple who came in 10 mins after us had their starters come out when we not even had water (as this was requested when we sat down).
Our waitress Vicente was every so lovely and attentive, took bite of allergies and made of aware of everything we need to know, I had truffle pasta and truffle fries which were delightful, was sad that the calamari wasn’t available but hopefully I can come back another day to try.
We went to Gusto to celebrate my daughters birthday on Tuesday! I wish we’d stayed in and ordered a pizza ! The service here was absolutely atrocious. The waitresses didn’t know what they were doing the management couldn’t care less. We waited for so long to get our drinks, then starters, and then were left there waiting for our plates to be taken away! We had to clear our own table and put the dishes to the end of the table and I had to ask the manager who walked past three or four times to get someone to clear the table. Eventually the table was cleared. We asked three times for our mains and I did not come until we demanded our food! The manager came over mid eating and asked how is everything to be honest I ignored her, after the food, we couldn’t wait to get out of there. I did have a word with a manager and told her about the service and she remarked. Oh you can have the table for 2 1/2 hours that’s our turnaround time! So we have to wait 2 1/2 hours to be served?! An absolute shocking service. Read reviews properly before attending this establishment.
The worst customer service that I have ever experienced!Have emailed twice to complain and never had a response, the service in the resturant itself was awful my partner was referred to as "that one" as shes ceoliac so requires a gluten free menu, the manager had his hands down his pants in the middle of the resturant tucking his shirt in! The food was absolutely awful!Disappointed is an understatement!!
Arrived at 16.40 and were shown to our table, it was a good 20 minutes and nobody had asked us if we wanted drinks. So one of our party of 6 had to go to the bar and asked to be waited on. Drinks ordered, waited approx 15 mins for them to turn up. We then had to go back to the bar to get a waiter to take our food order, the starters came in good time, everybody happy only to wait for ever for the main course to turn up. Two mains were delivered minus the fries, we had to wait 10 mins for the rest of our party to get their mains, myself and the wife did not receive our fries either. The wifes pizza was cold, thin and crispy, my lasagna was too salty, eventually my fries turned up but not the wifes, by this time Id eaten most of my lasagna. Ordered another drink from the bar which took forever to turn up. 4 times we asked for a bottle of table water which never turned up. The food here is not great, if you ask me you get better food in a canteen and pay a lot less. The service is the worst Ive come across, will not be returning to this establishment.
Nice atmosphere and good service. My sea bass was dried out on top though. I loved the chillies 🌶 underneath
Went Saturday 17th. Table booked for 8.30, got seated at 9.30. No served a drink or menu until 10pm so gave up and went home. Not a very good night
Had an amazing meal here with my husband. The food was incredible, portions were perfect and the drinks were fantastic. The service was second to none, a woman named Taylor, absolutely lovely, very helpful and prompt without being pushy, really pleasant and created a lovely dining experience.
Pretty poor service arrived at resturant in afternoon ordered foods and drinksDrinks arrived and starter arrived and then after 45 mins wait inquired with reception where was our main course and we were advised they had stopped taking orders for outside.Nobody told us otherwise despite ordering our food earlier, came inside ordered a Ceaser Salad it was absolutely dreadful with many ingredients missing when I complained the waiter became defensive and rude very dissapointed with my visit.
Nice food. Staff friendly and professional. Service a bit slow at times as it got busy. Vegan and vegetarian options are lovely.
They had a non working grill tonight, so menue was limited. Had a lovely meal, well presented and the staff are great. Would recommend, not busy when visited (Sunday eveningbut probably best to book online.
The venue is lovely and the service was decent. Dinner was nice. I didnt particularly enjoy it, I had a pasta starter with chicken and for a main, pizza with wine. I wouldnt go back if I am honest.
We had a wonderful time at Gusto. The staff were really attentive, particularly Nic who served us. The food was amazing and we will definitely be returning.
This was such an awful experience I can’t even begin to write it. The waiter we had we so unbelievably rude we literally had to cancel our order and leave. The attitude was so uncalled for. My friend asked a simple question about the starters and he replied sarcastically and he was acting in an extremely passive aggressive way towards us for no reason. As we did not feel comfortable staying there we left and will definitely not be returning. We just wanted to enjoy a meal out after a week of work but was met with ignorant service. Gusto, you need to train your waiters better and give them a much needed lesson in manners. I will be urging my friends and family in Birmingham to avoid Gusto at all costs now and to think I was so looking forward to trying the food and didn’t even get to!
On Saturday evening a friend and I visited Gustos in Birmingham, however we were met with a very rude waiter with brown hair who left our table mid ordering to attend another table. He then left us waiting, and when he came back I asked politely if we could order the starters to come out separately before the main meals, as it is not unheard of to ask for all of the food to arrive together. The waiter stared at me and didn’t reply so when I asked if that was okay he was rude and passive aggressive and said ‘yes well the starters do usually before with the main meals’ along with a blank stare. Me and my friend would’ve felt so uncomfortable being served by him so we just left the restaurant. Very disappointed and won’t be returning, we will be urging our other friends around Birmingham not to visit.
Service - 11/10Food - 11/10Ambience - 9/10This place is a must to pop into if you love Italian cuisine. I had been for a friends birthday celebration they even gave us a dessert on the house. The staff was chirpy and provided a lovely hospitality! We had tried focaccia bread and truffle mushroom spaghetti. And tiramisu as dessert was like icing on the cake. The food was mouth droolingly scrumptious! All in all, the visit made us to create an indelible memory.
Had the coconut rum cocktail, which I loved. Food was delicious just small portions compared to pasta or pizza dishes
Great place, cosy, intimate lighting and modern decor. Food was lovely, between the three of us we had, antipasti sharing board, aranchini, duck, seabass, romesco pasta, affrogato and creme brulee, all of which was delicious. We mentioned that it was our friends birthday, and they served her dessert on a handwritten happy birthday platter and took the dessert off the bill complimentary. Also a great choice of cocktails here too. Our server Louise also to be complimented she was friendly, smiley and efficient.
We tried Gusto on Temple Row as unfortunately the local branch in Leamington Spa had closed down and we always loved going there. We visited for a late lunch on a weekday and it was pretty quite until a stag party group of 30 guys turned up thinking they were at their local pub. We faced a wait of over an hour for our food even though we ordered well in advance of the larger party arriving. The staff spent more time straightening Cutlery and napkins on empty tables rather than paying attention to their customers. Even though the food was fine, the appalling service has left a bad taste in our mouths and we will not be returning. Go to The Ivy instead!
The food was exceptionally good. The waitress was very customer focused and hard working girl. I will highly recommend this Italian restaurant.
Delicious food. Sicilian origin. Good lunch service. Like the decor... Tree Branches.. Sicilian Lemon tree branches? decked with white fairy lights hanging from the ceiling. So a nice ambiance. Delicious food today June 2022. Seared salmon with potatoes and green beans. Attentive service.
Two of us attended the Birmingham restaurant to celebrate my birthday. When we arrived, one of the waitresses acknowledged us straight away and took us through to our table that we had booked. We had a Garlic bread to share for starter which was nice. We then had a Carbonara and Arrabiata for main. Both the main dishes were very tasty. The Arrabiata was advertised as being spicy but my partner didnt think it was at all. The size of the pasta shapes were large which he liked and there was plenty of sauce. The Carbonara was creamy and the Pasta was thick, all covered in a generous amount of sauce. Both dishes were big enough and very filling (good value for money). Throughout, the staff were polite and attentive. I had a glass of wine, my partner had a beer and we had some water for the table. They asked if it was a special occassion, and when we said it was my birthday they gave me the wine for free as we had already turned down a dessert. When paying, the staff were chatty and friendly. Overall, the atmosphere was good, the food was nice and a reasonable price, and the staff were competent. We would definitely return.
Had a fabulous meal at Gusto Birmingham. Staff were super friendly and food was delicious. Sunday roast was exceptional. My daughter had a fantastic Birthday celebration. Very reasonably priced as well. This is one of Birminghams little treasures.
I have been a few times and tried different dishes but the food is very average and underwhelming. It’s not bad, it’s just not great. The service is very, very good and friendly though and it has a nice ambience. Whilst slightly overpriced, it’s nice for a casual meal with some drinks and a catch up with a friend.
Birthday treat from my niece and nephews. Had a lovely time. Food was excellent and the service. Worth signing up on the website for special offers and drinks on your birthday which I received and the drinks was for all party members purchasing a main meal.
Great food and a lovely atmosphere. A shout out to Kirk who served us- very welcoming and sweet! 5 stars from us … we’ll be back again!
Visited Gusto yesterday evening with a friend. The staff were friendly; however the food and overall service was not great. After being seated we were left for what felt a long time. I had to call someone passing by to take both our drinks and food order as we had sat there a while. My friend and I both ordered ceaser salads and a portion of fries. We received two tiny strips of chicken, about 3 potato croutons and a handful of lettuce. The salad was smothered in sauce making the lettuce soggy. We only had an hour as we had an appointment after our meal so we didn’t want to return the food to avoid further delay. My friend ordered a frozen cocktail which was served with out a straw and spilling everywhere. Once we are our food we were then waiting to pay. Once again I had to call a member of staff to pay. I ended up paying £24 for a ceaser salad and a Diet Coke and fries. Would not return and wouldn’t recommend
Excellent. First time going. Served by Kirt. He was attentive and polite. Food was amazing and the cocktails. Lovely ambience. All staff gave good service. Thank you
nice ambience, very friendly staff. lemon and basil spritz was very refreshing. but the overall quality of food was a little bit disappointing. antipasti was not bad but the pizza dough was stiff with too little toppings on.
Amazing would definitely go back. Food was divine, staying was stunning and waitress was fantastic.
A treat for the eyes and palate ! Whether youre in for a romantic evening, a business dinner or a party with friends - Gustos menu and staff will definitely make you want to come back. The card is select enough to indicate fresh quality, yet it caters for all needs. Seating and lighting are comfortable, which makes it easy to lose track of time... The definition of a great restaurant !
Very tasteful plant based options available , very calm atmosphere. Staff are real professionals, available and not too present. Well come back .
Visited for an early Christmas meal with my friend; we ordered the Honey Glazed Duck with Balsamic, and Truffled Mushroom Fettuccine. The menu was limited compared with its usual (I assume due to shortages in supply, and to accommodate for the Christmas menu). We had booked beforehand (a good idea to do soand was swiftly seated. Our seats was right next to the room entrance in the corner which was quite cramped - I wasnt able to pull my chair out properly to sit down or hang my coat at the back at all. I ended up sitting slightly sideways out so was slightly uncomfortable. There was one server who wasnt as pleasant (the one who initially sat us down and took my drink order as I arrived), but our main server for the rest of the night was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our order was placed within 15mins of seating, but the food and bill took slightly long - probably due to the various Christmas parties/meals that was happening at the same time. The server checked in on us a few times to make sure everything was fine, and if we wanted anything else and not once did we feel rushed. The food was delicious - I had the duck which was cooked just right (medium rareand melted on the tongue. The sauce and sides complimented the duck well; I can understand why it is a favourite. However it didnt come (pipinghot, more warm than anything. Price-wise, it is £17.95 which I think may be just a touch overpriced (due to portion sizebut just about justifiable, especially if the meal is for a celebration or a treat.Id recommend a visit if youre wanting Italian food in Birmingham City Centre.
Food was very good (went for an xmas meal), some room for improvement e.g. gravy with a pie that was slightly too dry, but overall good and good friendly service.
Arrived for a work Christmas meal. The staff were very accommodating. We had great seats inside the resturant looking out to Colmore Row. Only reason i have given four stars is we were told on the morning there were no desserts available anymore, however they reduced the bill by £5.
Evening meal with some finesse! We came here for an early evening meal before heading out so it was fairly quiet (around 17:30and we were seated straight away. Our drinks order was quickly taken followed by the food order shortly after. The food arrived in good time.Starting with the crisp juicy calamari and king prawns with chilli and garlic. Both were good and would recommend. For mains, chicken arrabbiata and chicken fettuccine. Again, both lovely mains. If we were to come again we would possibly have the mains as ‘starter’ portion sizes and order some more starters as these were our favourite!Would definitely come back.
In search of a caffeine fix late at night found me being drawn to Gusto Italians lights and buzz and making up the numbers of the night crowd, in the minority obviously, the majority wetting their whistles with the devils brew. . Was I not entertained in contrast to the day. Such conduct in the daylight would surely provoke questions in the houses of Parliament. The consuming of what was clearly delicious food in a clearly well-kept, attractive premises, with lively staff who seemed to love their work, seemed a.licenense for folks to kiss, fall in love, and generally relish being in the company of other well-got-up beautiful and lovely people.Really I can do nothing but praise Gusto Italian as a go to place I even thought I could bring my mother here, such were the state of the loos, though, of course, in daylight hours., not nighttime. If you only had the latte I had ,you ll like it. And youll have enough to entertain you just watching the people. I saw some sights, so I did at Gusto Italian. All pleasurable of course... In sum, beautiful venue, beautiful people (staff included), and, last but not least, beautiful ... I mean tasteful right down to the glass it came in ... fix to get me through the night ... latte which I had.Geoffrey Adams-
Nothing amazing, but nothing wrong. Just ok. Was expecting really exceptional food, but was pretty average. Nothing that was overally striking and flavours were pretty average. Had checked liver pâté which was nice. Duck was perhaps not as tender or flavoursome as I expected but still good enough to finish plate. Pasta was definitely not fresh and very basic. Chicken had a slight smell, just seemed boiled and then added into the sauce as opposed to being cooked in the sauce. Cocktails were pretty good. Shame they didnt have any beers on tap (apparently not working). Decor and ambience was a little dull. Have had much better Italians, however it wasnt all bad either. Just expected it to be much better in terms if location and menu.
Booked a table for my mums birthday on Sunday 11th July which was the same day as the Euros(final), was told that because of this they had stopped serving the sunday roasts and would be closing early which we were not told about. The manager that was on was polite and tried his best to accommodate us but we had to wait ages for the food which wasnt the best, the veg was hideous⬇️. Ive Been to Gusto a few times but because of this I wont be returning.
Amazing food, highly recommend the primavera. Seafood spaghetti was not worth the mark up in price. Drinks were brilliant. Service was great. Definitely recommend for a special occasion!
The starters were gorgeous, we had meatballs and the salad. It went downhill from then.... The chicken was hard on the outside and polenta cold. The Bombolini were over cooked and a task to chew. Like a Bush tucker trial. Why on earth they decided to fowl the cream with sour lemon, I will never now. The staff were very slow of the mark, however they were polite. The drinks were tasty and of ample size. We would return in another Groupon but would not pay full price.
Had lunch here with some friends the starters were really nice pizza was lovely the bartender were really lively good mix drinks "cocktails" aswell atmosphere very calm. Would recommend if going on a date.
Been there on Saturday afternoon. Wait time for food was around 15min.Great customer service, waitress was polite. As you would expect from a restaurant.Interior is really nice and they have quite a lot of space inside.Food was ok. Pizza was really tasty. However, brownie did not impressed me. On the other hand virgin mochito was on point.Definitely going to come back few more times.
Wow amazing food and great quality. Was really packed when i went on a weekday however was still and nice environment. Would be amazing if it were slightly more quiet so your not shouting across the table to hear your friends or partner.
Gusto has their recommendations spot on; the finest dish imho is the multifaceted cauliflower steak. “A cauliflower steak!?” I hear you cry. It’s all vegetarian, amply served with a range of notes and textures. After the first bite I put the knife and fork down and looked admiringly at what I was eating. I could not believe something so tasty was mostly cauliflower.Gusto is a beautiful venue, the interior oozes quality. The lighting is low to allow a more intimate setting. The floor staff number many. Each team member is considerate and down to earth. The more experienced staff are switched on, offering a high level of service. Food is presented stylishly and delivered promptly. This Italian restaurant offers quality cuisine that befits the prestigious Colmore Row. I’d happily pay more for the experience.
Lovely food and you dont have to wait for to long before you get it. Nice surroundings. Pleasant staff. One thing against it was how small it is and how many thay try to squeeze in but I would definitely go again:)
Although the food is quite nice, there is no way to shake the feeling that you arent actually getting good value for money. The story is the slightly better with the drinks, nice but still somewhat overpriced or flawed. However, the strong point of the restaurant is the decor and ambience which is very good.I am sure there are better value, better quality, more unique, or more simply fun places very close. Its a decent second choice.
