Gundagai Railway Museum - Museum in Tumut, Australia
Gundagai Railway Museum in Tumut
Description
Great historical railway station. Well presented lovely lady caretaker to show you around. Worth stopping for.
MoreThe caretaker lady was very nice and told us a bit about the station. Be careful its haunted
MoreIt’s pity the museum was closed when we visited although it’s supposed to be opening hours, so we could only see outside. The former railway station is very beautiful and well kept. Worth a visit, even just for the outside
MoreI nice step back in time.
Says it’s open but it wasn’t. Wasn’t open when I last visited ages ago. I walked around it and still took photos. Very well maintained old station. The old train lines can still be seen. I walked around to the platform and then towards the old crane further down the line.
MoreTop caretaker!!!Great look into the past!!!
Lovely historic (non-operationalrailway station. Plenty of informative displays, with personal narratives. There is the ability to walk up and down the old tracks at the end of the platform.A small donation is required to enter. Definitely worth it. You know you’ve spent plenty more money on far more useless things!
MoreLovely old place!!!If you love railways a must!!!Great lovely caretaker on site!!!
MoreGreat memories of old times
Whats the email address of the manager at the station? I could not find it, would like to email you direct please...
MoreBy honour system $3 entry, it was a lovely insight into the old railway between Tumut, Gundagai and beyond. Great for train buffs. Neatly maintained.
MoreBadly in need of some maintenance - looked rundown when we visited on 11 November. So uninviting we didnt bother to go inside. I do hope that things improve otherwise perhaps someone interested in maintaining this heritage items should be given the opportunity to do so.
MoreWorth a look. But not much more than the building, water tank and an old carriage.Memorabilia is within the building, but generally behind locked doors.
MoreThe care taker is amazing does so well to look after the place highly recommended to go and have a look at a little bit of Australian rail history.
MoreArtefacts old and new, discover gundagais heritage when the train used to ferry passengers to and from gundagai before the major floods that nearly wiped out the town.
MoreUnable to view in some rooms due to being locked off.Thought there was meant to be a caretaker on site
MoreInteresting display and well maintained museum
Very nicely presented, so much restoration done
Visited both Friday and Saturday early afternoon but closed both days despite was supposed to be open till 4pm. However I entered area across a chain and viewed the old platform. But all else was locked, so disappointing for myself and several other tourists both days
MoreAn absolute awesome train station. And was sooo peaceful when we were there early July & again late November last year ( 2020 ). And I was there mid February ( 2021 and was able to go in & have a good look around in the old building which had a nice old timber smell ( nothing bad or wrong )
MoreThere is a free self-guided audio tour called Gundagai Railway Station built by the Visitor Information Centre in the Cya On The Road app. Worth to check out when you are visiting and would like to learn more about the heritage station!
MoreCute little station stop. Was quite empty when we arrived.
One of the historical train stations, they got lot of old things that were been used on back years..must visit
MoreSmall old town with lot of history, the place was flooded once and many lives were lost.
MoreNot open, need more information around the place so U can get a picture in Ur head what it was like at the railway station at Gundagai
MoreBeautifully restored.😊
Pretty cool.. Train was late and everythibg was closed off. The bridges were much more interesting
MoreGood to look at the towns old history
Nice step back in time
Very nice Museum. Here you get a very good feeling of how it was at the train station 40 years ago. A must if you are in the region.
MoreInteresting stuff from its past.
Poorly maintained and not a lot to look at. You would think for your recommend donation of $5 that there would be something to see....sadly ....no.
MoreQuiet cool little place for a stop over could do with a table and chairs
Great little museum. Sadly needs funding + running trains
It was cute, the station signs and building were well maintained but everything else was very poorly maintained, looked a little spooky. But if you like trains, it is definitely worth a stop if youre in the area.
MoreA piece of history for rail buffs. Has a nice little display inside the old station.
MoreGreat place to "dump your stuff" and top up your water. Well done Gundagai!
Looked fascinating however, it was not open so early in the morning
Very nice ghost railway station and bridge!
A great restored railway station with lots of memorabilia, including some old rolling stock still on the tracks. Well preserved and worth a visit, if you enjoy trains.
MoreWell maintained. Nice displays if historic equipment and information. Not far from the museum is the photogenic abandoned rail line.
MoreIt wasnt open early morning but looked pretty good
Its great to see these old Stations preserved in time
Well worth the visit, old railway station restored to its former glory.
Nice place to visit some historyWe visited the gundagiarailway museum to se a little bit of history of the area and was not disappointed. All static exhibits with great info about the railway and is a good lesson on the area.Pay by donation and wander around, when we were there no one else was around and made for a relaxed visit.Reccomended if your are a rail enthusiast or just into the local history..
MoreGood pace to look around
Staff are very knowledgeable. Theyve done such a lot of work to the station to bring it back to its former glory.Keep an eye on The Old Railway Station. They have plans for reinstating a tourist train trip, caravan sites etcGundagai is a RV friendly town. You can find a dump point at the Old Railway station with optional donation.
MoreGreat for a short visit when traveling through. Well recommended.
