Guatemalteca Bakery and Restaurant - Guatemalan restaurant in Los Angeles, United States
We are from Oregon and my boyfriend missed the food from Guatemala. We happened to be in town and decided to come here. He was in heaven and so excited. Thank you for having us. The food was awesome.
I CNT BELIVED,THE PORK TAMALES, HALF THE SIZE AND A TINY PIECE OF MEAT.THE CHILES RELLENOS,ARE HALF THE SIZE , I HAVE NEVER SEEN A GUATEMALAN CHILE RELLENO,ROUND LIKE HALF A DOLAR,THIS PLACE IS NOT AT ALL,WHAT USED TO BE,VERY SAD.I WILL NEVER GO BACH,I SPEND 100 DOLARES, PLUS 35 FOR UBER,I AM SO VERY DESAPOINTED.
Got more then 20yrs coming to this place. Love it all the time.
They have the best soda from Guatamala.
Found the delicious traditional yummies we were after! Great tasting food! And we are demanding when it comes to authentic flavor. They got it
I would give 5 stars 🌟 but I bought pork tamales and chuchitos on Saturday 5/7/22 around 5:15pm and the flavor was disgusting, I didnt like it at all, horrible taste 👎
The associates are extremely helpful and polite. The food is tasty; the only issue is the parking, no parking at all. I recommend this place.
Its good. The only thing is prices are higher . Above of the average.
Good traditional Guatemala food, real taste..👍
the breakfast here is really authentic and delicious, filled with locals all around. i enjoyed the plantains with the cream cheese, and the rice with milk tasted delicious.
Food is great but but the ladies who serve the public are very rude, it is a shame because the food is very good but the attention to the public is terrible. Im very desapoint
Been going there since childhood. The best and closest tasting Guatemalan bread! And yummy food!
The Manager was very rude, I asked her if she would please put more staff to attend, because I am was waiting for them for more than 15 minutes She said in a bad manner, the She doesnt this is all I have, She said. In a bad manner .She needs to be careful professional and to know that: " The costumer is the most important person in the world "
Hands down the best and most authentic Guatemalan food in L.A.. There are Central American products as well!
I love the bread here its so tastyInexpensive place to eat the food is also delicious
Just pleasant and authentic. Beautiful workers who are dedicated to real Guat baking and cooking.
Ive always buy here in the mornings and everything is good but when it comes to the afternoon shift is a mess they always mest up my bread I stopped by today to get some Beans cause my 1 year old baby likes the beans and I found a discustin stuff inside it was so gross it was a fried plantain I dont know how long it was there..... They shouldnt sell beans with stuff inside... if inspection comes to this store they would close it....
Ive gone a few times and its usually pretty good. The bread is fresh and the pastries are good. Parking sucks. Its usually busy, but so far the staff has been helpful and friendly. Time for a complaint. I went today for lunch and the potatoes on my plate were raw. Not cooked at all. No bueno.
The bread is just ok. IT might be that I am used to mexican panaderías. Of the many we bought just one was delicious to me.
This place is amazing! Friendly people working in the front. Come here if you want the real deal. Nothing covered up with acts or shenanigans to get a tip. This place just serves tasty hot food! Authenticity at its finest. Highly recommended for a true Guatemalan gastronomical experience.Recommend tamalesEnchiladasPork and beansChicharonesPlantanos breakfast with beans and cremaIts all good really. Pan dulce and hot coffee too!
Excellent food , staff very friendly, clean and fast service. I love it. Ill be back soon very soon
I been coming to this place for a long time. On Monday June 7,2021 I came to buy food and I got some chuchitos. My kids were hungry and I gave them a chuchito, let me tell you that when I got home I eat a chuchito and the Maza was still uncooked and didn’t taste well. This is the first time that this has happen and I was very disappointed. Please when you buy food and want to give it to your kids try it before them. Is very easy for someone to get sick. I will never buy chuchitos or tamales from this place again.
Good food but I bit pricey. Traditional breakfast came up to $14. Wish they would create combos to make it more attractive for me to return more frequently.
Ive been coming here since I was a child this place has at least a 20 odd years of being open, if you are looking for some 100% authentic chapin cuisine, then come to spot. Also it wont hurt to know some spanish when you show up.
Easily one of my favorite places to get a quick bite. The Pan con Pollo, Casamiento, Chiles Rellenos are a staple for me. The food is made fresh and hot to order. The staff is nice and the pricing is reasonable
I am not Guatemalan and I thought I had gone to Guatemalan culinary heaven! 🤤 Homemade taste! Bakery AND restaurant, family atmosphere, limited seating, no parking lot, very limited street parking available (-1 star).
I gave them a call before going over to get some tamales. The lady that answer was very nice and polite. A couple of hours later we arrived (me and my two friends from Mexicoand the service couldnt be better. Everybody was in a great mood, they made sure we got what we wanted. The place was very clean, even though it was a little busy that day. As a chapín I was very pleased that I told my friends I was going to take them to a very popular Guatemalan place in LA and Im glad none of us was disappointed.... keep up the good work. And to the owners, keep the ladies working there happy because it depends on them for us to keep coming back....thank you all!
Great for fast typical breakfast
This place was very authentic when it comes to food from Guatemala. Customer service is attentive and very helpful. If you dont know what youre buying or ordering Ask and they will tell you what youre getting. This is a very comfortable place to eat and buy. Check out out.
I have been coming to this place for years and my son now comes to this place as well. The food is good and the bread is good as well. I noticed alot of the negative comments regarding the food is really uncalled for. Guatemalan food is NOT Mexican food so dont get the flavors confused. Obviously the tastes will be different. Alot of people generalize all Latino food into one category and thats MEXICAN FOOD. Butthey are all different with different tastes. I think you should go with an open mind. Second the customer service is OK but do you really need someone to kiss your behind just to make your bakery experience a great one? As long as they give me what I want and charge me then Im off to my merry way and I really dont care if they smile or not.
I hava been a customer at La Guatemalteca Bakery for many years. The place has improved greatly. The food has always been great , what improved was the seating arrangement. There are now more seats and tables than before. There is a ramp for hadicapp access and they have 2 restrooms. The food is always fresh and ready to go. You can alao preorder the food for pick up. The place is primarily a bakery for Guatemalan bread but , the cooked food is so good that peopme bring the entire family to have a good meal. Breakfast lunch and dinner are served. Duri g the holiday season there are waiting lines so is best to arrive early.
Place was very clean, they have a good service, I was ordered an pan con chile relleno, y un chuchito
Okay so this is one of those weird places where its very difficult for me to rate. The bakery is okay but not great. The food is okay probably better than the bakery but you have to get used to Guatemalan style food. Guatemalan food has traits of Mexican food but they can be very different in style and taste. Still this place is very busy so I know the logos love it.
This is a perfect place to come eat and to buy bread. They also have s small section where they sell different types of thing like chips, drinks and ice cream. They bread here is freshly baked and you can buy cakes here and fruit tarts. This is the perfect place to come when you want to eat some food that one eat when they go to Guatemala.
A bit intimidating. I went in on a Saturday morning on my way to Wilshire Country Club. I was the only non Spanish speaking person in the place, and it was PACKED. I knew I had to eat there seeing how many people were going in and out. Its in a rough part of town, so parking is suspect. I really enjoyed my guatemalen breakfast, which is 2 eggs any style, black beans, a runny sour cream, and a bread roll which can best be described as a very average bakery roll. For some reason, my bread was cold. The black beans were more like runny soup. Very tasty. I actually prefer it like this. Almost emulsified. I also selected a combo platter from their prepared deli section. I got the beef which appeared to be chunks of lean beef sauteed or boiled in a tomato based sauce. Very delicious. I also got 2 sausages, not sure what was in it. It was not as snappy and fatty as American sausage. This looked like it had rice in it. Very flavorful, also excellent. All in all, it cost me less than $20 for 2 meals and a coffee. It would cost more than that for a pastrami on rye at Langers. I need to go back and try the other items. Will repeat.
I love this bakery! My grandfather used to work here and its changed a lot from what I remember. But the bread is still amazing and place feel like a little piece of home. Their prepared meals are exquisite and definitely worth the price. Everyone is friendly and business is high so you know its a great place
Good food, delicious bread.
I have lived in California 3/4 of my life going to this bakery takes me back to my childhood to those bits and pieces of memories. Love their sweet bread and some of their food. Mom makes the best there is no argument.
The food is good and the prices are decent, however, the help tends to be bad depending on who helps you. Some if these women that work here seem to think all men go in there for them instead of the food. Also, they dont seem to pay attention to what theyre doing, I placed a big order and trusted the girl that helped me to make sure everything was in the bag, however it wasnt, I didnt check myself and to an extent it was my fault. My order wasnt complete and I dont live close so decided to let it go. Now I check to make sure everything I paid for is in the bag.

When I called to ask if they had Guatemalan tamales ready (I wanted like 20or if I had to wait and how long in order to get them hot then how much each (I had to see if I had enough for 20the guy just answered some questions then hang up on me with unfinish bussiness..any ways..i ended up going in person and bought tamales all excited thinking they were chicken but they gave me pork (they never offered different meats and I thought Guatemalan tamales always go with chickenthen they did not put the olives or seasonings or bay leaf and the tamales were too small and expensive, 3.00 dollars each..hard to park on a crazy busy street..im not buying from here no more. Tastes like salt only :(

Food was delicious! Many options to choose from.
I love this place you can enjoy delicious food. Plus weekend you can enjoy live music
Customer since 2001 I love this place, always delicious Guatemalan food and bread. "Yummy paches".
This place is one of the worst places for finding a parking place. I almost end it up in a crash several times. The food its just fine but they charge like if I went to Portos (Cuban expensive food). Just two little paper bags with a few breads inside, more than $15. That is too much!
Good Guatemalan food and cheap price!
Ive been there a couple of times, my husband goes a little bit often because its close to his job and there arent many other options. First of all, the line to order food is crazy. Because you make a line, you choose your food and then there is only ONE cashier to check out, the problem comes when you realize that the cashier is also helping serve food, therefore if shes busy serving other customers food, she cant take care of the cashier machine, so you will find yourself stuck in a line where other hungry customers are waiting as well for someone to come to their senses and fix this and finally having someone ONLY to take care of the money. If the management considers its other girls unfitted for the cashier position, then assign ONE girl specifically for it. Because the line gets so long. Also, their food is not only tasteless but expensive, its ridiculous! Besides the fact that all the plates come with rice and beans on the side, even if you order "beans soup", it comes with rice and beans, if you ask to change the rice and beans for some lettuce, they say they cant do it and they end up throwing some lettuce leaves for $2+. Let alone that nobody there knows what manners are. All of them, all of them are rude. Sorry management/owner, heres a Latina who tried to give you business but youre failing on training them real basic customer service skills.
Awesome place for authentic Guatemalan (Chapinfood and bakery. Street parking only $1/Hour
Great food!! Everything is very tasty and fresh. Ive seen food here that if it wasnt for their food I would have never known much of the guatemalen dishes. Portions are really small and priced high. Customer service can be a little more cheerful and not look like you bother them when you are ordering. Seating is bad - they could use more or different types of benches. I gave them 4 stars because food is excellent everything else could improve. By the way!! They dont have parking so you have to drive around the block looking for a spot or if you are lucky to park in front you have to pay a parking meter!!! Only 3 spots there.
